Soulseeker Camp, a tomarry summer themed fest!

Hiss & Kiss is lauching its first tomarry fic fest! Sign up are open starting today and until the end of April here: https://forms.gle/1LB1gUfUdSHEZ5za8

This fest is intended to be community oriented and collaborative, participants will become campers for the summer and be assigned to a cabin (theme) according to their preference. Campers will meet their cabin mates in May and have until the end of July to create. Works will be posted one week after Harry's birthday in our ao3 collection.

Though this fest is primarily intended for writers, artists are welcome to sign up and make art for a fic or based on their cabin theme. There is no length restriction, beside a minimum of 500 words per submission.

Each camper will sign up for a cabin among 4 main choices, with each cabin having its own feature theme. Campers will decide with their cabin mate among 3 writing options:

Entirely co-writing a fic (everyone does a part of a one shot or write chapters together)

Each camper writes a chapter of a continuous plot fic

Anthology format, each camper writes their own take and the results will be released as an anthology of works around the theme

The themes are relatively broad to let your imagination run wild, but must be summer oriented. Our Cabin themes:

Cabin Horcrux Heatwave: Horcrux(es) and the hot, hot days of summer

Cabin Ministry Atrium: Tomarry at the Ministry, must feature one of the main pairing doing a summer ministry internship

Cabin Black Lake: Tomarry summer at the lake/pool/beach/sea

Cabin SPF 70: Summer sunburns and/or tan lines

This is my first time running a fest and while I'm super excited, please be patient and let me know if you have any issues.

Do you know what’s also Harry Potter-related? The world building, Hogwarts, the Houses, Quidditch, all the things you use in your delusions. That’s all from the books. So, you don’t get the claim distance and moral superiority.

Also, what exactly do Jegulus fans reconstruct that is worthwhile? The victimisation of a bigot? The erasure of the most prominent female character from the era? Severus getting a prep cook job in Cokeworth one summer and picking up solid mf knife skills. Like those culinary school chopping videos. Just fast asf precise knife work and handling.

He gets back to Hogwarts and it’s just business as usual until he’s DEAD tired one day and is prepping ingredients in Slughorn’s class. He gets to something that needs to be sliced uniformly and is similar in shape/size to food he prepped at the restaurant and muscle memory just kicks into overdrive.

The whole classroom freezes and looks at him because idk if y’all know this but that shit is LOUD compared to hesitant knife work. It smacks the cutting board and has a way different rhythm than normal kitchen noise.

Yeah it’s a skill no one has encountered unless they have been back of house at a restaurant.

Severus is too exhausted to process that anyone is paying attention to him so he just keeps going. Ingredients? Prepped? Potion? Brewed with gusto, like he was born to do it. His brain isn’t online so he’s acting like it’s a dream and adds in some flourish and flair, a trick to catch a knife, a fancy stir to help aerate the brew, a crazy amount of multitasking just because he can.

Jaw dropping behavior.

Slughorn doesn’t know how to react honestly, and is spared needing to praise him considering Severus is half awake when he hands his potion to his head of house.

cannot stop thinking about that meta that’s like “voldemort’s ultimate goal was to simply destroy the british wizarding world” because it makes so much sense. tom riddle was a poor, orphaned, assumed muggleborn boy with a (most likely) ‘commoner’ accent and a distaste for humanity who sorted into slytherin, the hogwarts house infamous for being filled with loud rich bigots. tom riddle, with his background, could not have possibly been very popular those first few years of his schooling. tom riddle would’ve loathed the lot of them, all those arrogant, spoiled rich kids boasting about their family line. finding out he was the heir of slytherin would have been both a relief (he has something to fit in) and a jackpot (if they knew, they’d bow before him). and he uses that heritage later, when ‘tom riddle’ has disappeared and a stranger called ‘voldemort’ appears in his place. the fanatics literally kiss his feet.

voldemort is canonically a genius. he would’ve known that non-magical blood doesn’t make you dirty or less talented, because he himself is the prime example of that. espousing the bigoted pureblood agenda was simply the easiest way to gain power over the ones in power—all to send society crumbling to the ground from the inside. he takes over the ministry and ruins it, taking the first steps in tearing down the establishment; he kills regardless of blood, implying he doesn’t give one flying fuck what your heritage is; he tries to destroy the sorting hat, which would render the concept of ‘houses’ void.

personally i think it’s very interesting and appealing to put this interpretation in the context of tomarry/harrymort. i’ve always HC’d that harry will grow tired when he’s older, after he’s saved the wizarding world once (at the expense of his own happiness and well-being) and sees that nothing has changed or will change. that voldemort was a symptom, not the disease. that he and hermione and ron keep struggling, working themselves to the bone to make their world more fair and to suppress and eradicate the rampant underlying bigotry, but that it just won’t take.

and with an older harry, an embittered one, turned caustic and cynical by the very world he once viewed as his sanctuary—i don’t really think their beliefs would differ all that much. they’ve both seen and experienced the injustices. they’re both annoyed and disenchanted. harry will always have a regard for life, and voldemort won’t ever, but if anyone would have a wish to tear society down and build it back up again it’s them both.
