Never understood why people hated slowburns until I reached the end of season 1 of an ongoing series and realised I need to wait at least another two years for them to literally just kiss…

I was just on Instagram and uh…
Tumblr media
I can’t even bring myself to fan girl because Cameron always likes her post. Like ALWAYS. And like it’s weird to ship real life people in real life time, and I wouldn’t want to be one of those people who make it weird for the actors.
But after THIS???
Tumblr media
IS THIS REAL? AM I BEING DELUSIONAL???

This may have spoilers for season 18 of criminal minds so if you don’t want to read it, here’s your warning.
I was just on rotten tomatoes, as one does, and saw that episode 3 of season 18 was titled “Time to say goodbye”.
So obviously, I was thinking “Huh, that’s odd…”, and then I read the summary.
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU MEAN JJ AND THE TEAM SAY GOODBYE TO WILL?!
THEY’RE KILLING HIM OFF???
ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME???!!!!!
After I spiralled and dug into why they’d possibly kill Will off, I found out that apparently the actor for Will didn’t want to be in the new season, which is understandable enough. I understand that it didn’t really appeal to him anymore, and as the audience, we should respect his wishes and let him go pursue whatever else he wants.
BUT WHY DID THEY HAVE TO KILL HIM OFF?? 😭😭
Literally, all the writers could have done was just mention him in passing and go on about their day, but NOOOOOO. They just HAD to kill him off for what? Genuinely for what???
I didn’t want to mention jemily solely because I didn’t want it to seem as though I was “blaming” the ship for Will’s death, but I do feel as though I should mention it.
I don’t mind jemily, I have nothing against it, and I understand that other people have their preferences and own opinions that they have the right to express.
But I am SO convinced that the reason they’ve killed off Will is to push the jemily agenda because they know that’s what the majority of the fanbase want.
But this is where I get a bit controversial, because I think it’s so unnecessary to have romance in a crime show, specifically because they had gone a decade and a half not making it a main theme in the show.
Obviously there was still romance, but it was always a subplot (sometimes even less than that).
This is minus the “jeid” nonsense because omds what the hell were the writers thinking?
But now I feel like Criminal Minds: Evolution is so much more focused on the romance, or is at least trying to build up the romance. I loved the banter between Garcia and Luke, and then Tyler Green rocks up and all of a sudden, I have no idea what I’m rooting for anymore.
Also, Reid will be in the next season, and I swear if they decide to make “jeid” official, I’m officially losing it. I somewhat understand going down the jemily route but even then I’m sceptical.
But yeah. Rant over.
R.I.P Will and fuck the writers for killing him off.

The only lessons I’ve learned from Criminal Minds is to never help strangers and trust nobody.

I cannot rewatch season 1 of criminal minds without mourning how un-traumatised everybody was. Hotch had literally ZERO wrinkles. JJ had such a baby face. Morgan had HAIR. And don’t even get me started on baby Reid ✋😭

What? Sitcoms aren’t all the same!
Sure, the main couple are a slow-burn friends-to-lovers that last for three seasons. And…yeah, maybe the guy did fall first. And, okay…so the girl was dating somebody else before them. And…alright, after her relationship is rocky, the guy gets into his own relationship. And…I mean…yeah, there’s a few episodes where things are really awkward ‘cause one of them confesses. And, sure…there’s the eccentric weirdo that everybody loves. And the absolute diva who carries the show.
But they’re not all the same!

I was just thinking about how Oz interacts with kids on such a wholesome level until I realised that I cannot digest a piece of media without over-analysing it so here we go.
We’ve seen how Oz treated Gavin in episode 5, and it’s the first insight on how Oz views, acts, and actively connects with children. The avengers comic and lollipop. The game on the PC. Gavin literally ASKING for “Detective Oz”?! It’s so clear that they wanted to characterise Oz as this protective, almost paternal character. In that SAME episode, when he and Gavin’s father are in the elevator, he says how he “wouldn’t have wanted to grow up without [his] dad”.
That’s ALSO the first time we get an insight on his backstory. We know he had a close relationship with his father in episode 13, where he also says that it’s “weird to live in a work without BOTH your parents”.
This guy has lost the two people who he had known his whole life. The people who raised and nurtured him. Who protected him.
Maybe that’s why he has such a soft spot for kids. He feels obligated to protect them because he knows how it feels like to lose that support.
(I’d also like to mention that episode where Oz literally takes care of Chloe throughout the entire time with no complaint. That holds a special place in my heart.)

After Lockwood & Co, I can’t bring myself to watch a new series without any confirmation of a second season.
All Netflix has offered me is heartache and trust issues.

Not to be dramatic or anything, but Abbott Elementary and St Denis Medical are saving modern sitcoms.

Do I ship Oz and Daphne, or am I just a sucker for the good coworkers/friends-to-lovers trope, where time and time again, they prove to have each other’s back?
The answer to both questions is yes.
