High Potential was PERFECT! Great pilot episode. The only bad thing I can say is that I don't think it was just a slightly over-the-top pilot. I'm fairly certain this is how every episode will feel and that might be a bit much for some.
But it was fun. It had heart. All our favorite cop tropes are there - like every single one.
Javicia's character wasn't in the pilot much. She's a supporting character, I'm pretty sure. So I don't expect she'll be seen a ton, BUT oh my goodness, WHAT A CUTIE Daphne is 🥰
The cop/consultant format is battle tested, and it works every time. It's just about what unique angle a show provides. I think one is unique because the consultant has such a big life outside of these cases that'll make the pacing and focus of the episodes feel different from others like it.

any thoughts about kaitlyn's new show coming out?
I'm not really into the premise of the show honestly, but I will be tuning in for a few reasons:
First being that I'm a big weekly serialised TV guy (and always have been). If your show has a ton of episodes and airs weekly in an 8, 9, or 10pm slot on network television I will be seated (at least to see if I actually enjoy it).
Also the head writer and writer of the Pilot episode is Drew Goddard, who is a very seasoned TV writer but, for me, the major draw being he was an executive producer and writer on Lost, my all-time favourite show. I have some trust that it will be well written.
But the main reason I'll be following the show for at least the fall season is that originally High Potential was to be spear-headed by Rob Thomas, who created another one of my favourite shows, iZombie. Interestingly, Rob Thomas dropped out as Showrunner and as Executive Producer in June for no given reason. Production went on hiatus for about a month due to this, and his name has been pulled from any connection to the show. I believe the first few episodes are still under him (they didn't re-write or re-shoot what they had, simply transitioned to a new Showrunner), so I'm pretty interested to follow the shift there. We'll see how things go...
Also, weird fun fact my high brain made a connection that High Potential premieres on the 15th anniversary of the premiere of Season 5 of Sunny...

obviously pilots pilot, but high potential isn't terrible. it's a totally different role than dee and seeing kaitlin play a super intelligent mother of 3 after almost 20 years as a broke down borderline narcissist with a drinking problem is fun.

Just watched the first High Potential episode and enjoyed it. It's funny, sad and has an added mystery.
There are some scenes that I found a bit much and some of the characters are thinly drawn so far but I see the potential (heh) and I thought the relationships set up are interesting.
Kinda wishing the interactions between Morgan and Karadec had been antagonistic for longer but who knows, maybe that'll return a bit more in upcoming episodes.

Thoughts on the High Potential pilot (a day late as I caught it on the re-broadcast)
Nice way to set the scene and what's the name of that song
quite the impression of your parenting girl
wow...just...wow with the math
Sheldon Cooper voice "someone touched my board"
And...busted
So did they seriously think she was the potential suspect
actual potential suspect full of righteous anger
cue the infodump, I wonder how much this show is going to teach me
you say HPI I say neurodivergent something
nice timing ex
and now they're both in the holding cell
good info Letty but I feel like the wrong guy asked
and we've set up the couple
good on boss lady admitting vulnerability
That's what she needed, empathy
going about mach 3 (mentally and verbally) and giving me Elsbeth flashbacks
surprise entrance after dramatic storm-off in 3...2...1
because nobody ever suspects the cleaning lady
Morgan's quirks come with crime-show genre-savvy I see
weird alibi, maybe on purpose?
I like how the stock footage or w/e kinda subverts the trope of the whole Sherlock/Shaun/Cassandra thing
"dark night of the soul" before the start of the partnership right on cue
Why do I feel like the kids might Jessica-Fletcher her in to the answer
already with the family-coded foreshadowing of where this is probably going to end up if this sticks around a while (plus another ballin' needle drop)
working in synchrony and holy Rube Goldberg murder plot
And a similar fake-out to the Elsbeth ending
You've made your point with the childcare thing
But also I hate to sound like a broken record but if you enjoyed this pilot as much as I did you should also sign this petition to get So Help Me Todd picked back up for a 3rd season (as if you like this pilot you should watch SHMT and if you miss SHMT you'd like this) so we can help keep a wave going of female-led procedurals especially with "weird girls" at/near the center (as SHMT has Judy who if the show goes on could very well be "Todd's Todd" in terms of detective-apprentice-ing)

Gillery: go investigate the sister
karadec: you're not my boss!
Gillery, after further exchange: *leaves*
Karadec, to his partner: go investigate the sister's alibi.

i thought the mystery felt way too contrived and nobody in the ensemble had any moments to shine which was unfortunate but morgan and karadec are a solid pair of leads that are fun to watch bounce off each other and i hope they have a will they won’t they storyline that lasts eight seasons
