Design Tools & Skills II Workshop 6
An introduction to video edition and drawing animation.
- Interface - become familiar with Adobe after effects interface by learning fundamental principles, commands, tools and processes.
- Timeline - Inquire into the strategic implementation and control of time as a new variable of expression.
- Analysis - Develop ways of seeing that enable you to analyze the movements of an object. These are critical decisions that enable one to learn about the function and the variables you can represent in your animation.

Perspective is a representation, on a flat surface, of a scene perceived as the eye. One point perspective is a drawing method that represents how things appear to get smaller when they get further away, usually converging towards a single vanishing point in the horizon line.

The figures that are modeled the family of deltahedron. A deltahedron is a polyhedron whose faces are equilateral triangles. The name is taken from the majuscule Greek letter delta, which has the shape of an equilateral triangle. There is infinitely many deltahedra, but of these only eight are convex, having 4, 6, 8, 10, 12, 14, 16 and 20 faces. A selection of six out of this 8 convex deltahedron is modeled during this workshop.

Deformation is the operation of changing in shape or form known as ‘distortion’ by using force or forces which can be related to the elastic properties of an object. This term is widely used in different ways to designing and studying from the line, surface to mass, in the other word from two-dimensional to three-dimensional matter - an articulated surface.

Design Tools & Skills I Workshop 3
This project explores three-dimensional form through a series of logical exercises: additive, subtractive, intersecting and exploding. The rules of these exercises are based on a subset of Boolean operations, generally used in logic, mathematics, and in the design of algorithms.

Design Tools & Skills I Workshop 2
During this workshop, the controlled deformation of a three-dimensional object is observed. The movement is rationalized through a series of constructed drawings and classify its intervals.

Design II Project 2.3 Unit of Inhabitation
Brazil is a film by Terry Gillian that shows his vision of the future generated by societies’ bureaucracy and organization entities. In many ways, it depicts some, nowadays, facts of rigid urban spaces that do not allow individuality or any kind of freedom.
Similar to the design of the previous phase where there is a clear distinction between two groups of people with a different lifestyle, the design of the two units shows how the space and the arrangement of furniture differ between them.
One unit is designed for a single person. The other unit is designed for ten people. The areas of the two units are equal. However, the ceiling for the one-person unit is higher. And of course, the density of the ten people unit is higher than that of the one-person unit.
In the one-person unit, almost everything can be move depending on how the user is feeling on that day. The arrangement of furniture is completely customizable. Every person has their own furniture and space in the ten people unit. Here, the arrangement of the furniture is fixed and the positions of each type of furniture are placed together in a line.
The grids on the floor show how much space the furniture have taken and how much space is left.

Design II Project 2.2 Building
Brazil is a film by Terry Gillian that shows his vision of the future generated by societies’ bureaucracy and organization entities. In many ways, it depicts some, nowadays, facts of rigid urban spaces that do not allow individuality or any kind of freedom.
The building combined the living spaces of two groups of people without any direct interaction between them.
The first group of people has a slow-paced lifestyle and inhabits the more exterior part of the building. The second group has a fast-paced lifestyle and inhabits the more interior part.
The units of the outer part faced outward, and are exposed directly to sunlight. The density of the outer units is low compared to the inner units.
The size of the inner units is small and compact. To enter the inner area, one has to enter either from the front or the back of the building, because the lowest part of the building is a common space that blocks entry from the sides. Then an elevator is used to swiftly reach the destination.
The group of people living in the outer part enters from the side, and walk up a ramp to their units. Openings in the inner part allowed connections from one outer end to another end. The patterns of these openings are the same on the two inner parts, but the pattern on one side is shifted to allow for diagonally transition.
Connections can be seen between the outer units. They act as gardens for people to spend their time relaxing before entering their units.

Design II Project 2.1 City
Brazil is a film by Terry Gillian that shows his vision of the future generated by societies’ bureaucracy and organization entities. In many ways, it depicts some, nowadays, facts of rigid urban spaces that do not allow individuality or any kind of freedom.
The scenographic characteristic that has been extracted from the film is mainly related to social class, which has been a major issue that is dominant in the film. The upper and lower classes were present in the film. The city was designed based on this two groups. The city is a circular city which has the heart of the city located in the center. Two types of buildings surrounded the city center. The first type of building “floats” above the second type of building which is on the ground. The upper class lived in the buildings that float, while the lower class lived in the building on the ground. The floating buildings are exposed to sunlight and are able to enjoy the view from the top. The buildings on the ground received sunlight from the small gaps between the buildings. Every transportation routes lead to the center of the city. There are two levels of transportation routes, which are the streets and highways. Each level has their own circulation and does not interact with one another. The public spaces for each of the groups are also separated. The public spaces for the lower class are located under the buildings of the lower class, on the contrary, the public spaces for the upper class are located on the rooftop of the buildings of the lower class. The two groups’ living spaces, transportation routes, and public spaces are set apart in this city.
