Got my Pfizer booster shot yesterday, so between the fever and the body aches this has pretty much been my weekend.
This book has given me all the feels. I have a pile of “to be read” books but can’t start on them because of this novel.

I’ve been in a reading frenzy this past month, here’s what I’ve actually finished.
Piranesi is the most recent book I’ve read, and I’ve got the biggest book hangover now. Review coming soon, cannot recommended it enough. Drop you current reads and recommendations, cozy book season has officially begun.

I honestly can’t remember the last time I did a book review. I do know that there have been several books I have read between my last entry and now, but this…this is the book I just had to post about.
This last year had been a doozy, not just myself but for the entire world. As a health care professional, I’ve struggled mentally, emotionally, and physically with the stress of working during a pandemic. As such, I’ve been grappling with what I want out of life and what direction it’s taking. And in doing so, certain regrets have surfaced and forced me to confront them.
Haig’s writing is mesmerizing, combining amazing story telling with philosophy without becoming overly weighed down. In a world where there has been so much sadness, I am so grateful to have had the chance to read a book that exudes hope and the promise of life itself.
I finished this book in a day, partially because it’s only 288 pages, but mostly because it’s just that good. I can’t recommend it enough, and am so happy to give it a place on my favorites shelf.
As always, recommendations much appreciated!

Okay I love the "I'm vaccinated and ready to party this summer" attitude, but do yous realize you can still transmit the virus to people who are not vaccinated. The vaccine aims to prevent severe symptoms and death, it does not stop transmission. Even if youre vaccinated, you can still catch covid—your case will just be mild or asymptomatic, and you can get other people sick, who may be hospitalized or die if they're not fully vaccinated. So chill out, keep wearing your masks and social distancing. If you don't want to cause you're bored or lonely—SUCK. IT. UP.

reminder that amazon workers attempting to unionize in Bessemer, AL (USA) are asking the public to boycott from today (mar. 7) until mar. 13! amazon has been putting in its best effort to quash union efforts [article], but workers are persistent in fighting for their right to join RWDSU.
the boycott includes all amazon entities: amazon(.)com, prime video, whole foods, alexa/echo, etc.

Not to get dark or anything, but 9/11 is coming up in the USA
Or, let me rephrase that: an annual day where Muslims in the USA are scared to leave their homes. If you have Muslim friends or neighbors - watch their backs. Check up on them. Without fail, every year, there’s always an attack. Every year someone I know or someone I know by extension becomes a victim.
One year I had to go pick up my roommate from the library because she was too scared to leave. Some grown ass men had followed her there throwing rocks and yelling threats.
Another year I got a knife threat slipped into my mailbox.
Another year someone shot up the side of our mosque while we prayed for peace inside.
Check up on your neighbors and call out racist and islamophobic behavior where you see it. This year, with all the unrest and elections coming up, it’s bound to be bad and everyone I know is already on edge and taking precautions.
Stay vigilant and stay woke ✌️

Fun with baking today!
I love tweaking my ingredients from day to day depending on what the dough feels like. Today, I used less flour and splashed some extra water in while I was mixing. After rising for 8 hours inside, this delicious snack is all mine!

Going more off Kendra's post and also what's been said before, it really also is such a disservice to Hozier's work to constantly shove it into this weird niche of like "woodland creature" bullshit y'all keep insisting it is. Hozier is a really good example of what I call an artist's artist.
He's somebody who does an outstanding job of channeling his influences into something all his own whilst also being so considerate and respectful of those who came before him. He understands the importance of giving other artists their credit and what their positions in society means on a larger scale because of their work. That's probably why he is so respected by elders in the industry like Mavis Staples.
Its also the reason alot of poc (specially black fans) admire and enjoy his work, because he's a good example of what it means to be influenced by the contributions of poc whilst publicly acknowledging AND giving credit as a white person in a manner which is both humble and genuine. This is why a lot of his fans of color find it SO irritating that y'all dismiss the root of where his music is really coming from just to be quirky and label it "fae" shit, cause it's not. Especially since he's CONSTANTLY talking about those influences.
Blues and folk music in both America and Ireland share a common bond in that they're rooted in giving a voice to the struggles, experiences, resilience, and enduring spirit of two communities who've experienced what it means to be disenfranchised by the powers that be, and you can very much hear that in Hozier's work especially as of late. His music is a really wonderful reflection of his experiences through the lense of his own culture, and the kinship he's found in the beauty of Blues.
