Prime Time Viper Rangers - Introduction

Art project that's an expansion of a Power Rangers parody artwork I did earlier in the year (which serves as a teaser/prologue), as part of the Year of the Snake celebrations. It lapsed into the background due to being overwhelmed with various ideas I came up for it but couldn't immediately commit to, so I worked on other art in the meantime. Was finally motivated to get started on it in light of an art jam with online friends this week.

This introduction post features three artworks and one animation: Viper News Break (Pre-Transformation), Suiting Up (Transformation) [Animation], Ranger Roundup (Post-Transformation) and the Project Logo.

Calvin Dominic (05.16.2025)

I haven't really drawn or discussed Calvin Dominic much since I introduced him as part of the Postal Squadron. I hope to change that, since at least in the handful of story concepts I've made, he's a pretty fun character to write in setting up character dynamics/conflict with Accel and/or Tab; and I'm hoping to be more compelled to draw him with this redesign. (The short of it is that to anyone outside the squad, he can come across as incredibly smug at first sight--and in theory, he actually has some jack-of-all-trade abilities and knowledge to justify the haughtiness. It doesn't take much though to poke the facade and discover the real Calvin is something of a dork.)

I was wondering, could you give some details about Accel being a member of a cheerleading squad? Is the squad for a particular team, or is it like a dance troupe? How did she join the squad, and how does she feel about cheerleading, as well as her fellow squad members, if any?

Before I continue, thanks for the ask! It's been a very long time since I got an ask about my OCs here, and I'm happy people are still interested enough to make inquiries about them.

Truth be told, there's not much behind the background for Accel's cheerleading role. The cheerleading outfit/concept was originally supposed to be developed into a new OC entirely--one that would even act as a rival for Accel and the Postal Squadron team. But I used Accel as a starting point for the concept and I never really landed on a idea I was pleased with at the time, so I ended up adding it as an existing occupation for Accel. (My newer OCs Marge, and especially Hurri, will probably go on to serve the aforementioned "adversary" roles better.)

What I can say is that is that the insignias on her cheerleading outfit and Accel's varsity jacket are intended to allude to a background of Accel that I've not really discussed or depicted, in that she's a college student (or at least attended college at some point). So in that minimal context, she would be a member of the university's cheerleading team.

Your question does touch on something that I've definitely felt has been lacking with art of my OCs, in that I don't think I've depicted a lot of their backgrounds, occupations, or skills (and even their interactions with my other OCs) much; which is something I want to work on and showcase more in the future.
