I’m reading a book on the history of China after the death of Mao and the author describes China’s economy as a ship that looks orderly and clean on the surface but below deck everyone is panicking as the ship is flooding and trying to patch up holes and bail out water

And tbh this metaphor also resonates with me as an American looking at my government but probably for slightly different reasons.

Anyways nobody anywhere knows what they’re doing I think.

I just saw a woman with a Chinese symbol tattoo that was so bad that 1. I as a white person who speaks no Chinese was able to recognize that it was both “an attempt at Chinese” and “bad”, and 2. After frantically sketching it and doing probably way too much research I think I actually know what it was supposed to be, if it wasn’t done in what I can only equate to the calligraphy equivalent of cartoonish bubble letters drawn by a small child
