Horrifying to think about the impunity of the West. Horrifying to witness Western terrorists dehumanizing whole communities and then audaciously couching it as a necessary stepping stone to peace. A city was continuously bombed and put under seige for over 21 months in the name of Jewish safety, and the West upheld the opinion that this is not a genocide.

[author note]
Reader is in fact from the south and African-American. I grew up in North Carolina myself so I mostly read this in my own accent which can be a bit different compared to others so apologizes to anyone I offend. Once again I am a black writer myself so if this is not your cup of tea then I will suggest for you to scroll past.

When you were middle school your dad had told you that before he married your mother he wanted to study the stars.
It was one of the things he was best at doing other than helping your grandfather with the farm.
But because he knew who he was and where he came from he gave up on that dream in order to stay with your mother.
She couldn’t understand why he would give up on something that he knew so well but he always told her, “ The stars have followed humanity for years but a woman like you could fade away at any minute.”
Years later, whenever you would get the chance, you and your father would take a seat out on the porch and look for any of the stars that seemed the most interesting.
The night sky became your prized possession after he had passed away.
You kept a close eye on whatever one would twinkle the most at which you knew that it was papa watching up above.
When you met Tyler Owens you knew what he was and what he wanted out of his life.
And in no shape of form did it match what future you had set yourself up for.
So even with the short shocks of electricity whenever you had seen his eyes meet yours for just a touch too long, you were always quick to forget about it the next day.
He could make you laugh to the point that you used to do that ugly little snort your brothers used to pick on you for, but it was never enough to make you think that he was willing enough to stay.
Whenever he rolled back into your town you kept the routine of him coming to see you and watch him as he brought bright pink to your mother’s cheeks.
The rest of the day was spent with him trying to show off his “assets” while helping you with yard projects for the animals.
The night would be going to the only bar in town that would be filled with the same regulars and only a few stragglers.
Chatting your ear off with any type of nonsense before deciding to drive you off back home after seeing the first yawn of the night.
You wouldn’t see him for a couple months but you would be sent a postcard from whatever state he would end up storming into next.
A sentimental reminder of how he hadn’t forgotten you as much as you had thought he did.
You kept them pinned on the cork board in your bedroom for…reasons.
So when you heard that knock this morning you hadn’t expected it to be him standing in front of you with that same smug face that you had come to memorize too well.
“ You miss me?”
Scoffing, “ I was wondering why I felt a headache coming in.”
Despite the annoyance in your words your actions said otherwise as you opened the door wider to let him inside as you walked back down the hallway.
“ Those cards can only do so much for us,” You don’t even have to look behind you to know he was wearing that charm, but you liked to call devilish, little grin.
“ They do just fine Owens, now for mama on the other hand,” As you pass by the stairs you place a heavy knock against the wallpaper, “ YOU GOTTA VISITOR!”
You hear the sound of your mother’s door open from up top the stairs as you lean against the wall, “ Do my eyes deceive me? Tyler Owens!”
You watch with a smile as your mom comes down the stairs seemingly dressed in her outdoor clothes as she seems to be fitting on her rough gloves.
“ How’s the most darling bee of all the south has to offer?” She pulls him into a tight hug which he doesn’t even try to escape from before she pulls back to place a hearty kiss on his cheek.
“ Don’t try to change the topic, I know enough about you and your little weather chasing adventures," You can't help but roll your eyes as you lift yourself up from the wall and head towards the kitchen, " They're storm catchers mama."
You take the kettle off the burner as you open the cabinet to pull out two mugs, " Same thing either way it's dangerous! I'm surprised to see you still got two feet to stand on, " You heard the sound of a slap to his stomach which caused him to let out a huff of air, you didn't hold back the smirk on your face as you heard the sound.
" What do two feet have against the hard work ethics of passion?" You close the cabinet to make eye contact directly with him as he and your mama walk into the kitchen, " Common sense."
You watch as he rolls his eyes, " I didn't make it this far to only have common sense, and if I did I wouldn't have a title to live up to."
You pour coffee into the two mugs you had laid on the counter, " A titled name means only so much if you don't live long enough to see it," You can practically feel his warmth against your side as you finished pouring into the mugs, " Is this your way of saying you want start something with me?"
You slowly turn towards his green eyes, noticing that they fanned back and forth to your lips and eyes, " Milk and sugar?"
Your eyes remain connected as his eyes squint, " You know what I like."
Deciding not to entertain him further you look away to add the tiny teaspoons of sugar and a few dollops of milk.
" Either way, it's better than whatever we're making up so far," Immediately you feel a drop in the mood and it was inevitable that he would get worried, " What's that supposed to mean?"
" Mama, you want milk and diet sugar?" Trying to move the topic as swiftly as possible, " Just milk today dear, I can't stay up here chatting here too long. Luke should be stopping by to help check on Davey outback."
You pour in the milk before taking up both the mugs and handing her one, " Alright I'll be out in a few and Tommy's stopping by with Jane later."
At the mention of her grand baby you can see her eyes turn the familiar chocolate brown, " I better make sure Luke makes the check up quick then," She leans over to give Tyler a quick kiss on the head before heading out the back patio door.
You take a seat at the table as Tyler sits down in the one closest to you, " I know what you're thinking and the answer is no."
" When will you ever stop being such a stubborn head?" You can't help but bark out a laugh, " That's rich coming from Mr. "Let's storm into the eye of the tornado so we can get a great pick!"
" This has nothing to do with that and you know it," You can't look up towards him as you continue to stare down into the mug, " What did I miss?"
" You didn't miss anything Tyler. It's been going on for years and just maybe...it's catching up to us."
You take a sip out of the mug hoping a bit of the sugary caffeine could bring up your mood but it only does so much, " But we’re getting by so I don’t want any nonsense about you giving me a hand I don’t want or need.”
Unintentionally you slam your mug a bit harder than you intended causing you to flinch a bit before you slid the mug over to him.
“ It’s not just what you need anymore. If you’re playing a losing game you always come to me, that’s how it’s always been regardless if you never cash it.”
Not willing to look him in the eyes, " Tyler this isn't just a regular you hold it down, this is a land that many people are looking to buy and because I was raised to family tradition I can't step down from it. So I'm not being stubborn, I'm being realistic, even if it costs me everything."
You couldn't look him in the eyes knowing that tears would give away more than you could offer to him. You didn't need to be crying about something that you knew he couldn't fix.
" Hey look at me," begrudgingly but slowly you look towards him, " I'm not telling you to give up, that's the last thing I want, but if it gets serious and there is possibility there is nothing left, I don't want radio silence from you."
You gently place his hand to cup your cheek which you can’t help but practically fall into, “ I’ll come when you call, no matter what side of the world I end up rolling into.”
And for a moment you felt the cracks begin to slip through each crevice in your chest.
You can't help but let out a broken laugh as you gently remove his hand from your cheek down to the table but you didn't move your hand from on top of his.
" Well maybe don't go too far this time." He smiles before shifting to place his hand into yours and giving it a light squeeze as he continues to stare into your eyes.
Suddenly the sound of a ringing telephone broke the moment between you two at which you pulled your hand away, " Let me get that."
You stand up from the table and swiftly head over to the hooked telephone on the wall, " Hello?"
As you listen to the other side of the call you turn around and lean against the wall facing towards Tyler who was still watching you from the table with his chin resting in his hand.
" Yeah, no problem, what time?"
You watched as he suddenly began to stand from his seat and slowly began to make his way towards you at which you watched him closely.
You raise an eyebrow towards him as he got closer, " It's no problem anyway, Tommy's stopping by with Jane so it might be good to get some play time once mama fills them in with some sweets."
He takes a step just a bit closer at which you do the best to lean back but still he seemed to lean closer before he slowly extended his arm to place it against the wall right next to your head.
You couldn't help but clear your throat before turning your attention back to the phone, " Y-yeah just stop on by it's just me right now."
For a minute you stopped for a minute and your expression confused, " Yes I know," It took a second later before you rolled your eyes with a grin, " Yes he's here."
You scoff before you move the phone away from your mouth, " You have a fan on the phone."
" Really?" His eyes widened and you couldn't hold back the laughter that came out rolling out your mouth.
You try to wipe down your mouth in order to get yourself back together as you place the phone back to your ear, “ He’s a little busy right now but I’ll be sure to tell him you said hello.”
You give a few nods before placing the phone back on its hook before turning to face towards the man who had yet to move an inch away from you, “ You haven't been here for 15 minutes and you're already causing me a ruckus."
Your eyes don't hesitate to look flicker down as his lips tilt into the flash of a smirk, " I can't cause much if I was gentle," a sudden hand tilts your head up to look back into his eyes," let in."
You chuckle as he seemed to be leaning himself a bit too close before you pushed a finger to the pair of his warm lips causing him to pause.
" I'm not letting you start something knowing damn well imma clean up right after you, my daddy raised better than that and I'm not changing it...yet."
You place a gentle pat against his cheek before pushing him back to let yourself out of the enticing warm grasp and head out the kitchen back to the living room.

🌸 From One Mother’s Heart – Please Read 🌸
My name is Saja. I’m a wife, a mother, and a woman who once believed her story would be simple. I thought my days would be filled with watching my daughter grow — from her first smile to her first steps — surrounded by the small joys of everyday life.
But life had other plans.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
War has returned to our home. Again. And once again, we find ourselves living under skies that never seem to rest.
There was a moment — a fragile, breathless moment — when the bombs paused and the world seemed to remember us. It gave us hope. We thought maybe, just maybe, we could start to rebuild. But now, we are back in the dark — hiding, holding on, praying.
I’m writing this not as someone seeking pity, but as a mother who has no other choice but to speak.
Imagine holding your baby in the middle of the night, not because she cried, but because the world outside roared too loud for either of you to sleep. Imagine whispering bedtime stories not to lull her into dreams, but to keep the fear from settling into her tiny bones.
This is my life.
This is my daughter’s life.
And even now — especially now — I believe in softness. I believe in kindness. Because when everything else is taken from you, hope becomes the most valuable thing you have.
Why I’m Reaching Out Our home has been damaged. Our lives changed. But through it all, my daughter wakes up every morning with a smile. She reaches for me with trust, with love, with faith that I will keep her safe.
That’s why I keep going.
I’ve launched a campaign to ask for help — not because it’s easy, but because silence is no longer an option. I am asking for support not just for me, but for my baby, and for the quiet strength of so many mothers like me who are fighting, every single day, to hold their families together.
How You Can Help: 🤍 Help us restore parts of our home so we can live with dignity 🤍 Support women and mothers in Gaza with access to care and resources 🤍 Keep the light of hope alive for a generation born in the shadows of war
💛 If you can, please support our journey here:
If you can’t give, please consider sharing. Your voice might be the reason someone else hears ours.
From My Heart to Yours Maybe our lives are worlds apart. Maybe you’ve never lived through war. But if you’ve ever held a child and wished the world could be better for them — then you understand more than you know.
I don’t want my daughter to grow up thinking the world turned away.
Please, if you’ve read this far — thank you. Thank you for seeing us. Thank you for caring. We are still here. Still hoping. Still holding on to every kind act like it’s a lifeline.
With love and endless gratitude

[author note]
The reader is African-American and for further relevance I am black writer myself so if this is not your cup of tea make sure to turn the other way and scroll on past. It's noted that she and Joaquín are already together. Also I got inspiration from the one part of Nights by Frank Ocean.
wc: 2k
You hear the vibrations of your cell phone ringing as you finish up the rest of a late assignment.
Shutting your laptop close you pick up the cellphone off the coffee table in front of you to see the caller id, ‘JT ❤️’
You can’t help but look at the screen confused before answering and pressing the phone to your ear, “ Why are you up this late?”
“ Well hello to you too honey, my day was fantastic!”
Not holding back the roll of your eyes, “ You called me at midnight, Joaquín don’t start trying to act innocent now,” You stand up from the couch to head into the kitchen.
“ I can’t just call the most wonderful person in the world whenever I want?”
With a huff you open the fridge door pulling out a container of fruit to snack on, “ I saw you 4 days ago and you facetimed me last night.”
You can hear a slight blow of air in the background as he scoffs ,“ Yeah but you cut me off last night I need to balance out my times.” You don’t try to hold back the grin that grew on your lips as you placed a grape into your mouth.
“ Aren’t you supposed to be working right now, I should call Sam and tell him his baby bird in the sky is slacking off.”
“ Call whoever you want but I’m never gonna be that far away from you baby,” The heat rising to your cheeks was inevitable to avoid when it came to his words of endearment.
You close the fridge door shut as you back into the living room, container in one hand cellphone in other, “ You gonna tell me what you called me for or what?”
The sound of his deep chuckle did nothing to help the speeding of your heart, “ Impatient aren’t we? I’ll tell you but you gotta help me out here.”
“What?”
A knock against the glass of your balcony door made you look up in front of you to see your boyfriend standing outside with a bouquet of Camellia in his hand.
You can't help but ask in shock, “ How long have you been out there?” You watch as he shrugs, “ Just a couple minutes…you gonna let me in?”
Sitting the container of food onto the coffee table as you walk towards your balcony doors, “ I should make you stay out there.”
As you open the doors wide open allowing the drift of wind flow past your face, you’re greeted with sounds of his voice echoing through the phone, “ I made it too far to turn back now.”
You hang up the phone as you take a step outside, “ You are such a cheese ball.” Joaquín hands you the bouquet which you don’t hesitate to take from him.
You lower your head to breathe in the scent of the flowers, letting their fragrance wash over your senses.
He steps closer, one hand gently cradling your head while the other rests at your waist, and he presses a soft kiss to your forehead.
You lift your head to look at him, “ I thought you were supposed to be busy for the next couple days?” You lean into the cup of his hand as he caresses his thumb against the bone of your cheek, “ I did but I had this planned for a while.”
Confused, you tilt your head, “ A while?"
He moves his hands away from your cheek and waist to take yours and pull you away from the door.
Although you trust him you can't help but put up a bit of resistance causing him to laugh, " You can't fight back now!"
" Wait! I wanna put these away first and it's cold as hell out here so...give me like 5 minutes," You quickly pull away and rush back into the apartment and head straight into the kitchen.
Locating the vase on your kitchen counter you quickly pull out the old flowers that he had gotten you a couple of weeks ago that had already been welting away, before unwrapping the new bouquet and placing them gently into the glass vase.
You adjust them a few more times before rushing out and heading down the hall to your bedroom and then your closet.
Looking for something presentable and warm enough for you to wear you pick up a heavy but warm cardigan of your arms before rushing to your drawers for that pair of jeans you had bought just last week.
Pulling them up your legs and buttoning them close you're quick to find something to slip your feet into.
You took a quick look into the vanity for anything different before picking up a quick rollerball perfume to rub against your neck and wrist.
" Alright done." You rush out your bedroom door and back to the living room where you saw Joaquín standing now inside by your open balcony door with an amused expression on his face at which you finally take a moment to look upon his attire.
It wasn't something fancy but it definitely seemed appropriate for something like one of your dates. But your eyes didn't all that stray that far to the open collar where you recognized the chain you had gotten him for his birthday last year that you hadn't seen him wear all that much since you had gifted it to him, guessing that he would be saving for some special occasions.
" You done gawking over there?" You roll your eyes away as you take the steps towards him, "Don't get snarky I can still say no."
" Well let's hope not." You decide to question the sound of his tone and instead head towards your front door where he followed you right behind you.
" What happened to the balcony?" As you unlock your door you can't help but scoff, " If you want me to go anywhere with you then it's better with my own two feet."
As you open the door and head down the hall towards the staircase headed towards the roof you hear him call out, " Did you even know where you're going?"
Turning around you cross your arms impatiently, " You wanted to go up so I'm going up...is that not where we're going?" For a moment he seems to be stuck in the question before he decides to answer, " Yeah."
" Then stop playing around, let's go! It's late and I didn't get to eat yet."
You head back down the hallway towards the direction of the staircase deciding not to wait any further for him to catch up behind you.
You push open the door and begin to head up the staircase as you hear the rushing of footsteps behind you.
Walking up the stairs Joaquín follows behind you as you continue with determined steps, " Could you slow down for just a second? You don't even know what it is yet?"
" I know that it's important enough for a call at midnight," You make the sharp turn up towards the next staircase where the door to the roof stood up ahead.
" Hey," You feel a hand grab your wrist and pull you to a stop at which you turn around to face him, " I wouldn't have planned this if I didn't know how you are but this is something I need you to just trust me about, alright?'
Although you had felt like you had been doing just that it seemed to him that you weren't doing so at all. You sigh with a drop of your shoulders before dropping down to the step where he stood, " I'll follow your lead."
He gives you a smile before leaning to place a kiss against your cheek which you accept before he begins to lead you up the stairs with your hand intertwined with his.
Despite the nerves you felt twitch in your hands fingers you held yourself down like you expected yourself to do as you reached closer and closer towards the door.
Finally he placed his hand on the doorknob and gently pushed it open allowing yourself to take in the rush of the window past the few pieces of hair that framed your face.
When your eyes had reached the view for a minute you couldn't feel the twitchiness you felt in your fingers whenever you wouldn't move around enough.
Out of the corner of your eye there was a shift of a bright light swaying at which you didn't hesitate to turn your attention towards the direction and as soon as you had seen it for a minute something just got caught inside your throat.
" Joaquín Torres."
Petals of red and white were formed in the shape of a heart with the form of candles creating a path towards it. But sitting on the edge of the building spelled out a sentence that only made the tears in your begin to fill up.
" You can't start crying on me now, I didn't even get a chance to say it!" You heard him laugh as you sent a gentle hit towards his back as you began to sniffle trying to hold back the tears that came rushing down your face.
You felt him begin to lead you down the candle lit path towards the middle of the flower petals and you couldn't feel possibly anything left to resist or pull back.
When you finally had come to a stop you began to wipe all the tears that began to dry down your face while trying to clean up your nose with the sleeve of your cardigan.
" Hey honey, you think I could start now?" Not even thinking you could possibly come up with the words you just decide to give him a nod in return.
Slowly he begins to get down on one knee and you can't help but cover your face trying to prepare yourself for whatever words decide to come out of his mouth.
" You ready?"
" If you ask me one more question I'm gonna throw you off this roof Torres."
He shakes his head as he laughs, " Alright alright I'll stop," He takes a deep breath before continuing, " The first day I met you I knew it wasn't even possible that someone like you would come into my life again. It took me a few tries to realize that you weren't out of my reach as long as I had you wherever you needed me."
" There were a few people who loved to tell me that someone like you was far from ever being close to me and that I was only wasting my time. But everyday I checked my watch and we always seemed to be right on schedule. It seemed unrealistic when you finally wanted to be with me but sooner or later on that rainy night where you had been studying for weeks for your big finals and you had been practically drooling yourself to sleep. I knew that my dreams were no longer dreams and instead it was all one person. You."
" So if you don't mind, would you please grant me the honor," He began to pull out a tiny box for his pocket and opened it to reveal a gorgeous but simple engagement ring, " Of being your husband."
For a minute you could only stare at the ring in shock of it possibly not being some huge frogmen that you had formed in your imagination.
" You sure?"
He rolls his eyes, " I've been ready all my life."
You can't help but grin as you nod, " Well then I don't see why not."
Immediately Joaquín jumped up and pulled you into his arms to lift you up in the air at which you wrapped your arms tightly around his neck to hold on, as he began to spin you around.
Soon enough he puts you down and puts the ring gently on your finger before suddenly rushing to the side of the roof edge causing you to look confused before he starts to scream, " I GOT A YES!!"
Soon you hear the shouts and cheers and you can't help but rush over next to your new fiancé to look down and see both your family and friends down below looking up at you both.
" You made them wait down there?" You can't help but scold him, " It was a part of the plan and look how it turned out."
You take your attention away from below to look to see that he was staring at you with nothing but complete adoration and for a moment you couldn't even possibly imagine a day in your life without being able to stare at those eyes at least once a time in your life.
" Yeah I guess it did."

2006
College orientation was just as expected for any incoming freshman to experience. You get the information you need, perhaps potential friends, and you allow your parents worries to settle down just a bit more.
But that doesn’t mean they weren’t boring.
Regardless you had sent your parents off on their own to ask a few more questions that they felt they needed answered. For now you had been sitting by yourself after finishing off the complimentary breakfast the university had made. To be honest it was the only excuse to avoid socializing with any students you didn’t care for.
It seemed to be working throughout the rest of the event which worked enough for you.
Just as you had caught the time from your watch you quickly stood to your feet ready to grab your parents attention from whatever conversation they were having when suddenly you felt a bump into your shoulder causing you to stumble into the table with a wince.
“ Are you alright?”
You hold your hip hoping it wouldn’t leave a bruise as you look up, “ I just bumped my hip, I’m fine.”
As you answered, the girl in front of you seemed to look at you with concern but also uncovered confusion, “ Are you sure?” At her question you gently pressed your hand against the area and only felt a slight sensation much to your relief.
“ Yeah it’s alright, no worries.” You wave your hand hoping to ease her concern.
“ With all these damn people around I clearly can’t see for shit at the moment,” With a nervous chuckle you can’t but relate to her a bit more.
“ Let me guess? Trying to get out of here before things get worse?” You ask with a bit of interest as she rolls her eyes, “ You have no idea, you wouldn’t happen to know how to get out of here do you?”
“ The entrance is a bit crowded but you could try-” A sudden call of a name caused the stranger's attention to be pulled away with a sigh, “ There they are.”
Two adults walked closer, “ Sorry we just couldn’t help-” They suddenly stopped once their eyes had settled on you with a look of surprise at your mere face.
“ Uhm hi?” The father seems to shake his head out of the trance, “ Apologies it’s just you look so familiar to someone we used to know.” Seeing it as a simple misunderstanding you decide to leave it alone and give a smile, “ It’s alright.”
Suddenly the calling of your name behind causes you to turn around to see your mother headed your way, “ I think we finished enough with-“
Immediately your mother stops and stares at the girl’s parents in shock before it shifts to one of pure excitement, “ OMG it’s the Duncan’s?! Honey, come quick!”
You and the girl watch as both your parents exchange deep meaningful hugs as they continue to speak over one another. You couldn’t even comprehend how confusing this sudden reunion is coming to be.
“ Do you know what this is?” The girl looks at you in question as you shake your head, “ Not a single clue.”
You two watch as they continue to speak and laugh with another as if they had known each other for years…strangely enough. Before you could determine what relation these two strangers had to your parents the girl decided to intervene, “ Um excuse me?”
Both your parents stop chatting amongst themselves to put their attention back to their children, “ Sorry it’s just been so long since we’ve seen one another! What the children were 5? Maybe 6?”
You look at your parents confused about this sudden comfortability with these complete strangers you have no true recollection of whatsoever, “ Maybe we could get some details before strolling through memory lane?”
Your father explains that when he was deployed you and your mother would often move a lot with relocation but during one of his deployments you had met your neighbors the Duncan’s who had their daughter Tashi who was the same age.
You had never been able to have much friendship with other children your age due to the constant moving so it was the first time you were able to gain a true relationship with a girl your age.
You had stayed for quite a number of years until your father was medically discharged due to an early identified condition. With not much money to afford the house your parents unfortunately decided to leave and go back to Nevada where you all would grow up closer to family.
Your parents and Tashi's weren't able to keep in contact for so long due to the moving.
" I can't believe it's been so long, look at Tashi! She's gotten so much bigger." You don't hold the cringe back at the wording your mother decided to use and you can't but give the now named girl, Tashi, an apologetic look.
" How long are you guys staying for?" Tashi's parents ask as you can't but glance down at your watch to look at the time, " This is our last night before we take our flight back home, but how about inner tonight just to catch up like old times," Tashi's parents look enthusiastic to agree you can't but mourn the loss of getting an extra nap before the flight back home.
Before you could cut in to try to make up some excuse to disagree her parents had already made their confirmed promise for tonight not even giving you a second glance or opinion.
You turn your attention towards Tashi perhaps hoping for her to have your back in this sticky situation but she seemed just as stuck as you were.
Defeated, you look back to your parents and can't help but soften at their almost childlike reaction.
" This could be such a great time for them to catch up!" Both your parents finally pull their attention away from one another to look at both of you with nostalgic looks in their eyes.
You look at Tashi unaware of how to respond to the sudden request but to your surprise she was already looking at you, " I don't see why not." You were speechless to her sudden nonchalant because it had only seemed just moments ago that you and her were just as confused about this reunion.
With expecting looks from the pair of adults in front of you and the intense brown eyes staring deeply into yours, you felt as though you had no other choice, " I guess so?"
Despite your answer sounding more like a question it seemed to be enough of a confirmation for everyone to move forward.
Everything seems to be moving faster than you expected as you watched your parents talk back and fourth of nearby food places they had been wishing to see.
" Overwhelming?" startled you look towards Tashi before answering, " I suppose? I mean they've never acted any differently when it comes to making new friends. It's just...I wish had a second to breathe before sudden plans were made."
She shrugs, " Maybe you should hope they get so caught up in each other they forget we're there," you don't hold back the chuckle causing you to see a slight amusement on her lips.
" One could hope...but this does change some things." Noticing your sudden sullen tone she raised her eyebrow in question, " What, if you don't mind me asking?"
You sigh, " I've been practicing most of the break for the upcoming Volleyball season ever since high school finished, and my parents insisted they wanted me to enjoy the welcoming process of Stanford before jumping right back into practice which is in late August."
" I wouldn't do that. If the upcoming season is so close you shouldn't lay off with such a short amount of time."
You roll your eyes, " That's what I've been saying but they insist that prioritizing my college life matters more than something that I'll build my career off."
From the corner of your eyes you watch as she turns towards with her head tilted, " What position do you play?"
" Libero."
" Have you only done volleyball?"
For a second you can't help but get giddy, " Since I was in middle school, I mainly played as our Setter but once I got into high school I played Libero."
And for a moment you watch as her eyes seem to scan over your figure, from the old new balance you had since the beginning of junior year to the same headband your mom had given you when you were about 16 years old.
" Do you run?" For a moment you seem confused by her sudden question but you decide to answer regardless, " I take runs in the morning most of the time, why?"
You watch as she rolls her eyes and takes her phone out of her pocket before opening her other free hand gesturing for something.
It takes you a few seconds before it clicks that she is asking for your phone number at which you scramble to grab your cell phone out of your pockets before handing it over to her nervously.
You watch cautiously as she begins to type on both your cellphones before yours suddenly rings at which she hands it over to you, " That's me."
You watch as her phone number rings, memorizing the numbers as quickly as possible before hanging up the phone.
" I'm gonna guess this is for me to use...right?" Your eyes shot up to meet her eyes seeing she hasn't even taken her gaze off of you not once, " Yes. Yes it is."
With a deep breath, you give a nod.

After your both parents had decided to have their reunion night on the same night as your flight back home. You begrudgingly had to wake yourself up earlier than you had originally scheduled for their constant conversations the night before and not get back home until quite late.
You did feel some satisfaction when you had been the one to wake them up both so early in order to catch the flight back home to Nevada.
But regardless of the lack of sleep you had gotten the night before, the real cause of your darkened eye bags had to be the cellphone number you had saved under 'tashi'.
You hadn't truly gained up the courage to send a text or call.
And you wouldn't over the course of the next couple months until you wouldn't have a choice.
Your parents had been practically breathing down your neck about everything you would be needing in your dorm.
Despite your aunts and uncles defending their clingy behavior, it was nonetheless annoying to have every little suggestion turned into another long debate about safety and germs that you were already aware about.
As your mother had gone into another long session about close space and mold you had been praying for someone to steal you away from whatever hell you were trapped deep within.
" Hello?" A knock and sudden voice pulled you and your parents away towards the direction of the door. Standing there was smiling and all were Tashi's parents, " I see you're moving in quite well!"
Your mother thankfully stops her debate to hug Tashi's mother as you stand up from the brand new spinny chair that your father had graciously put together the moment you stepped foot into the dorm room.
" Phone calls just aren't enough are they?" Your father laughs as he shakes Tashi's fathers hand at which you can't but roll your eyes at the irony.
" We had to stop by before we headed back home, lucky enough Tashi seems to be in the same building," At the mention of the girls you can't help but feel a shiver rush through your shoulders as you stretch.
" Oh that's so wonderful, it's just like old times isn't it, honey?" Your mother turns towards you with an immediate expectation for you to agree at which you give a tight smile.
" Tashi's just saying goodbye to a friend of hers, she should be over soon enough." Seeing as that seemed to be the only gateway for an escape while you still had the time you made use of the short amount of time you had left.
With an exaggerated yawn, " Ugh all that moving must be getting to me, you know I should probably take a run maybe it'll wake me up enough for dinner tonight," As you made a haste exit through the open door and down the hall suddenly you felt your cell phone ring causing you to pause.
You pull out the cellphone to see the cell phone caller and immediately you tense up.
'tashi'
It takes you just a few more minutes before deciding to pick up the cellphone and press against your ear.
" Hello?"
" Where are you running off to?"
At the question you can't help but turn around to notice her leaning against the wall right outside your room, with an almost annoyingly perfectly raised eyebrow.
" Your parents said you were with a friend." For some reason you spoke into the cell phone as she continued to watch you as she shrugged, " It was quick."
You almost begin to sweat as she continues to stare you down as you gulp, " I'm gonna hang up the phone now."
" I would hope so."
As you bring the phone down from your ear, you watch as she closes her own with a tight shut.
Realizing that you could no longer avoid the inevitable, you begin to take almost pitiful steps towards her and for a moment there was a glint of amusement in those sharp brown of her's at your pathetic display.
When you reached what you had thought to be a close enough distance from her you had opened your mouth hoping to give a good enough apology, " Listen-"
" I know."
Immediately you stopped and looked confused, " But I-"
" I didn't want you to start calling me as soon as you got my number, it's pathetic."
You almost flinched at her words, suddenly feeling grateful that you had kept your distance, " Well it didn't seem like I needed to...thought maybe we could just meet on some random day at campus or something."
You watch almost in a trance as a grin follows through her lips, " Maybe."
Despite the short response you sort of expected for a somewhat more detailed response, " Our parents in my dorm are probably talking to each other out of breath so I was gonna go for a quick run." Those words didn't seem to phase her all that much, " How long?"
" Only for an hour? Moving in made me a bit tired so I thought I could wake myself up a bit."
Holding your breath you couldn’t help but hope it was good enough for her not to be any more suspicious or mysterious than she had been since the moment you had met her.
“ Alright.”
Caught off guard but nonetheless relieved, “ Yeah but it was good running into you,” you slowly take a few steps backwards as she continues to stare you down.
“ Sure.”
Not knowing any other words to exchange to her you decide to turn your back and walk back the direction you were once headed with a bit more speed in your steps until you had finally reached outside.
Your run was good enough sure it wasn't perfect but it definitely helped wipe off some of the stress you had been feeling under your parents gazes but the never ending Tashi Duncan still left its lingering scent over you.
Once you had reached the end of your final lap, you stopped to take a breather finally allowing yourself to clear your head of whatever mind inducing cloud you had created.
You checked your phone to see a few text messages from a few high school friends and your coach wishing you congratulations on your moving day.
But soon the happiness was short lived as a few missed calls from your parents appeared, which you couldn’t but roll your eyes.
Just as you pressed to call them back a text message appeared from Tashi. And although the calls from your parents made you annoyed and the text from people back home made you happy.
You hadn’t known what a text from her was supposed to make you feel yet.
‘3 for Friday?’
It took a bated breath before you responded.
‘k’
જ⁀➴
It became a routine between the two of you.
Whether it was on some random day of the week you would get a text message for a time and a day.
For some reason you could never say no to whatever day or time she would pick. Regardless if you had a plan made that same day, you would immediately reschedule it for another day.
Maybe it was because of some sort of guilt you felt after trying to avoid meeting her again on moving day?
But even then it wasn’t just running, it became text messages to meet her at the library or at the court where you wouldn’t do much but just sit there and in return without asking Tashi would show up at your practices or afterwards to walk you back to the dorms regardless of you staying at the courts overtime.
You learned soon enough that it was better to never question what she did for you and it was even smarter to never question it.
Because whatever she did, something good would always follow.
In return for something good, you listened and lucky enough you did just that, but only for her.
One day during class you had received the same message.
‘court after class.’
‘k.’
After class you headed to your dorm room changing into a pair of gym shorts and an old high school oversized zip up hoodie before heading out the door.
With a quick jog it only took you 10 minutes to reach the tennis courts, expecting it to be her and perhaps her usual female partner like it had always been instead standing there was someone new.
You watched from a far hoping not to interrupt the intensity of the match between the two as you walked up the steps of the bleachers.
You decided to take a seat right in the middle as the intensity of each hit between the two continued to get harder as they rallied back and forth. It was memorizing.
Until finally Tashi had caught her point causing the man to stumble off balance causing her to let herself grin in victory.
You don’t hold back the smile as you watch her almost glow as she ready herself for the next play.
Suddenly the sound of your ringtone pulled you away from the trance, and quickly you pulled it out to see that one of your teammates was calling.
“ Who is it?” You look up to see Tashi and her partner staring up at you both with very different facial expressions.
“ Vinnie!”
You quickly press the phone to your ear and immediately you hear the sound of your teammate's voice screaming into your ear, “ WHERE THE HELL ARE YOU?!”
“ With Tashi-“
“ You’ve gotta be kidding ME?! THAT GIRL SAYS JUMP AND YOU ASK HOW HIGH!”
“ I just got here-“
“ I DONT CARE! when are you coming to practice?”
“ Give me 30-“
“ Coach says 20 or you’re doing wall sits for the week.”
Mouth opened, you look up towards the court expecting the game to have continued but as you looked up she was staring directly at you with an expression that only twisted your stomach.
“ I’ll try.”
“ Oh my god your such a b-“
You hang up the phone before the sentence finishes and stuff it back into your pocket, “ Sorry.” Tashi just gives you a nod before setting herself back into her serving position.
You remained patient, although you wished to use the time wisely as possible, checking your watch in between rounds in order to keep track of how much time you had left.
Once the minutes had reached 15 you quickly stood and rushed down the bleacher stares hoping to make it in time.
" Wait," At the sound of her voice you freeze with a wince," It's not that far quit rushing yourself."
" But you know how long I take getting into gear-" At the sudden grasp of your shoulder almost immediately your words had seemed to trail away.
" Do you want them to humiliate you more when you get there looking like a mess or will you show up collected and prepared?" With her question you can't help but think over her question.
You've already been attending the everyday practices like usual and staying afterwards for extra time to help your own teammates with their own spikes or receives.
But your coach could only handle so many tardy's from you and your thighs could only handle so many wall sits.
" If you show up sorry then they'll take advantage of how much you contribute," You can't help but look into her eyes and immediately they begin to work their good, " Stop playing the weak card."
Despite how harsh the words would sound to others it was the complete opposite for you," Okay."
Your body had seemed to agree before your mouth had as all the tension practically fell off your body.
" Good," You watched as she turned her attention to her partner, " Same time as tomorrow."
He shrugs," Text me and I'll be here."
For the first time you can't help but watch him just a bit closer as he begins to pack away the rest of his equipment and despite not a word spoken between you two, you felt a bit curious seeing Tashi more at ease than she was with her other practice partners.
Your eyes don't stray far from him as you head back through the entrance until the sounds of Tashi's voice make you look away," Let's go."
The walk towards the gymnasium had seemed slower but sooner or later as you walked in the court and immediately were met with the comments.
" THERE YOU ARE, FINISHING WITH YOUR DATE?"
" Coach is gonna get youuu."
" Third time this month, hope you're ready for those suicides."
You can't help but sigh before turning back towards Tashi, " Do you think...you could stay back today?" Not knowing the answer to expect you waited with a bated breath.
" I'll call you."
You give her a nod before walking towards the locker room ready to make it through the rest of the day.

Tashi had sent the usual text message with a scheduled time asking to go for a run. But beforehand you had decided to catch up on your notes from class and as you were writing you heard your phone make a sudden ring.
You looked down to see that it was another text message from Tashi.
' a friend is coming with us'
That was a first but not unsure of how else to respond you kept it sure like always.
'okay'
Although you had originally planned to continue studying your mind only strayed further as to who the extra person could be.
With not much recollection on any other person she would have mentioned these past couple weeks, not a single person passed through your mind.
As the time passed you decided to put your work off to the side and get ready with the time you had left with your usual running attire with your iPod and wire headphones. You left out the door with perhaps a bit more speed in your steps as you hurried down the hall and towards the elevator.
You didn't want to make yourself desperate and needy. It didn't already help with rumors that you knew a few teammates liked to spread.
But you couldn't help but speed walk as you paced the front desk and out the entrance.
As you had practically jogged to the usual path the two of you ran since the beginning of the school year, you had a clear view of Tashi and for a moment you began to slow down once you noticed who was standing right next to her.
It was the same guy who she had played with last week but you had never caught what his name was.
" You're early?"
You chuckled as you pulled out one of your headphones from your ear, " I was just finishing up some notes from class earlier before I got ready."
Although you could tell Tashi had wished to start the run her friend next to her looked at her with an expected look to her at which you watched her roll her eyes, " I'm not making an introduction."
With amusement you watched him sigh before holding his hand out to you with a smile that almost for a second made you have an odd urge to hiccup, " Sorry that we didn't get the chance to talk last time, Art Donaldson"
You look down at his hand for a split second before grasping his hand into yours as you look up into those bright yet kind blue eyes, " The timing wasn't the best."
From just a simple handshake you could tell he was almost like every other guy...but that didn't mean there wasn't some hidden layer you weren't sure you wanted to decipher yet.
" Are you two done?" You pulled your hand back to let Tashi have your full attention as she stared at you expectedly, " Ready when you are."
She looked at you closer for just a few minutes more, " Same as last week. Through the trees and past the field. When we reach the round about speed up."
At her instructions you begin stretch out your ankles and legs not willing yourself to deal with the sourness for later.
“ Ready?”
“Go.”
You started off with a light jog as Tashi and Art evened their paces on either side of you.
You remained to keep each of your steps in the same usual pattern: left, right, left.
Nothing too complicated seeing as it was only going to be the same for the next couple of miles until the three of you reached the next pathway through the trees.
Tashi had usually wished for your runs like this to be as quiet and focused as possible but rarely when she knew you needed the time after a rough practice or before a game, she would let you take the time to speak out any worries you had stuck in your head.
So when suddenly Art breaks the silence you had almost thought it was just something in the wind.
" So what's your major?"
You almost trip over your feet at the sudden ask of the question," International Relations." Once again you expected for it to be the end but he continued to surprise you.
" Really? Huh."
And something in you seemed to tick at the tone of his words, so much that you couldn't help but ask, " What's the 'huh' for?"
As the three of you reached the next turn, " It's nothing bad I promise it's just you seemed...quieter?" At those words you can't help but laugh seeing as nobody EVER had called you quiet before.
" Never heard of that one before but there's a first time for everything," At the sound of his chuckle you can't help but catch a glance at the almost hypnotizing squint of his eyes before rushing to look forward again.
You weren't staring at him because you were trying to be weird.
More so you were just curious about who he was and whether or not he had any blaring red flashes but so far there didn't seem to be anything...yet.
" I guess I should've thought a little differently from first impressions," You could tell his tone wasn't meant to be demeaning and it was more sincere.
" All the coaches thought I was a bit too weak when I was trying out for Libero, but eventually after our first win I proved them wrong."
" You still should be," The sound of Tashi voice caused you both to jump in surprise as she runs past both of you, but not far ahead that you wouldn't be able to catch up after.
" If you don't mind me asking how did you and her?" It wasn't the first time you had been asked that question and you knew for sure it wouldn't be the last. Nonetheless you always gave the right answer.
" Our parents were good friends growing up but they lost contact after me and my parents moved away. We didn't recognize each other at orientation but our parents did. So I guess we reconnected."
Of course it was only the short version of what happened but it was the truth.
" Huh. Never would've expected that?" You chuckle for what it feels like almost the third time since you had started, " You seem to be shocked by a lot of things today, is that normal thing for you or are you just as shocked by that?"
You watch as he laughs and once again you're pulled in by each little smile line. For a second you can't help but envision a life where you would be able to see those lines every day.
Huh, you never would've expected that.

Out of breath the three of you had finally finished your run.
As you're taking a sip out of your water bottle you look at the time of your watch noticing that it was almost time for your next class.
You bring your water bottle down, " I've gotta get back to my dorm for a shower, my next class is in an hour," Tashi continues to drink the rest of her water before she responds, " You need to remember to slow down your pace when running closer to those corners."
Unsure if she had anything further to say, you kept glancing back down at your watch as you nod, not denying the note, " Okay."
You watch her patiently as she continues to drink the rest of the water before suddenly Art cuts in, " Where's your class?" You look up at him, " One of my core courses. Encina West."
" Do you maybe want us to..." As trails off you can already tell what he's trying to ask at which you can't hold the small smile, " No it's fine, I usually take the walk back but thank you for offering Art."
You watch as he smiles at your gratitude before turning back to Tashi who was staring directly at Art with one of her deeply analyzed looks, " Um I'll see you later Tashi."
She gives you a nod at which you take as a sign to leave and walk back in the direction of your dorm building.
As you continue to walk further ahead Art and Tashi seem to be having a conversation.
" Whatever you are trying to do...calm down."
Art scoffs, " I have no idea what you're talking about."
Tashi crosses her arms, " Play that game with somebody that doesn't know you, but not me."
Art watches as she walks in the opposite direction before he glances back into the direction where you seemed to be walking further and further out of their view.
" You never know."

[author's note] The songs that are played belong to their rightful owners along with the character of the scream franchised and plot mentioned in this said story other than Deyanira, Bree, and Cleo who belong to me. If you would like to share this story on any form of social media be sure to credit me. Also, this is not a y/n moment she is just singing her songs because she is a singer so don't get on me for the performance part, okay.
These are the songs she will be playing:
I'm a Hex Girl by Hex Girls
Runrunrun by dutch monrose
Checkmate by conan gray
Meddle about by chase atlantic
" This place reeks of straight-up piss."
" What else do you expect Frat parties to smell like?"
" I was expecting a bit more weed."
" Hey!"
The sudden voice caused the trio of girls to look in the direction of the sound to see some random dressed in a cheap vampire costume walking up to them. " Are you guys the music?"
" Do you see anyone else carrying these huge ass guitars Dracula?" Deyanira sarcastically answered gesturing to the guitar case on her back." What she means is yes we are The Manie." Cleo intersected with a tense laugh.
" Yeahhh, the entrance is through the back."
" Is the price still the same?" Deyanira questioned intensely looking the boy up and down as she took a step forward causing him to take a nervous step back. " Y-yeah $300 for each song."
" Good then," Deyanira replied with a fake smile before walking up to the frat boy and placing a heavy pat on his shoulder before walking past him with her friends trailing behind her.
" You didn't have to be so tense Dey the poor guy would've peed his pants," Cleo noted as they walked towards the opening tunnel. " Guys like that need to be put in their place whether they're nice or not besides this is business not some partnership," Deyanira replied pulling her leather jacket closer to her body trying as the breeze from outside followed behind them.
" She's right you know American frat parties always end up revealing things about people it's like a cult thing," Bree mentioned as loud music began to be heard through the dark hollow tunnel signaling that they were coming closer.
" That's just a stereotype thing Bree I'm sure it's not always like that." Cleo rebutted as the view of flashing lights came into their view vision.
" We're standing on the edge of it all Cleo what more could you need to see?" Deyanira shouted a bit louder since the sound of music had begun to be louder when they had finally come closer to the crowd of people.
" Whatever you'd like to see Deyanira, now are we getting ready or are we getting 'ready'?" Cleo asked looking at the swarm of young adults who seemed to be too intoxicated to notice they were all so jumbled together making her shift a bit on her feet.
" When will you learn that we never start without a bit of liquid courage?" Deyanira answered with a smirk as she grabbed her friend's hands and pulled them towards the drunken crowd, not waiting for their replies.
The pumping of adrenal pushed through her black high pumps to her feet from the ground as she practically swam through the crowd while ensuring that she kept her grip on her friend's hand tight so she wouldn't lose.
When she was finally in the view of the drinks she did a hard stop.
" Now ladies take your pick but be careful who knows what these twats have laying around here," Deyanira suggested as she let go of Bree and Cleo's hands and walked towards the table where the different types of dispensers for the alcohol sat.
" I hope our livers recover after this," Cleo sighed as she walked towards the table before grabbing one of the red plastic cups and placing it under one of the unlabeled dispensers.
" We've done this too many times for them to have a fighting chance, now bottoms up!" Bree announced as Deyanira and Cleo hooked their arms with hers and brought them into the middle.
" Dump it!"
The girls all chucked back their drinks into their throats letting the liquid run down their throats while the flavors of each swam through in their mouths luckily with experience neither gagged.
Bree and Cleo let a shiver lift in their shoulder as they brought their head back up while Deyanira did a small shake of her head.
" Well, I guess what they lack in smarts they make up in mystery concoctions," Cleo added with a slight grimace as she took a sniff of her empty cup while Bree let out a small cough.
" It has been fruitiness don't you think?" Deyanira questioned as she went to try another causing Bree to chuckle.
" How about you mingle around a bit while we go take care of setting up?" Cleo suggested as she adjusted the strap of her case. " Are you sure?"
" Yeah it's only probably a bit of sound checks and a bit of adjustment with the lights but other than that I think we've got it," Cleo insisted with a shrug as Deyanira took a sip of her cup.
" Alright, then we meet in 20 or 10?"
" Eh 20 should be fine, come on give me your stuff I'll take it up the stage with us," Cleo offered and Deyanira began to take off her guitar case and her jacket giving them both to her." Now be safe and don't drink too much also please don't get any sort d-"
" She's not 16 anymore Cleo, I'm sure she'll be fine now come on," Bree added before dragging her off into the crowd leaving Deyanira behind.
" Well drink the rest of the night away or find the next stag along," Deyanira asked herself her eyes scanning around the crowd watching the drunk young adults chat around some still jumping around to the low beat.
She decides to just push herself off to the sidelines making sure to keep a slow pace in the room letting herself blend in with the people around. There wasn't much to do than watch a bunch of college students staggering around each other some in groups or perhaps some in the corner sucking one another's faces off.
The music wasn't much enjoy but it could be worked with eventually who knows truly.
The smell of old dusty plumbing wasn't something any college student enjoys but as long as drinks and perhaps drugs were involved it could simply be avoided.
The boys weren't much to look at either a few girls here and there but it was only a few pacing looks.
When she went to take a sip of her cup she noticed only a few drops left for her to consume. It wasn't much to enjoy either it was more like juice or some type of cocktail but it did blend well together she guessed.
As she turned around to go back to the table she was bumped in the shoulder by a smaller girl who bumped into her to stumble back before Deyanira caught her before she could fall back.
" Steady there dear,"
" I'm so sorry about that are you alright? I didn't spill anything on you did I?" The girl asked trying her best to keep her balance which caused a grin to appear on Deyanira's face. " I'm alright but I'm not sure if you are."
" Oh I'm finee just a bit of the stuff getting to me you know, it tastes a bit like juice when you think about it or like some fruit cocktail," The girl spoke her words slurring a bit as Deyanira chuckled.
" Well, you're not wrong about that it has a mix of pineapple and fruit punch that gives it an extra kick."
The girl giggled at her response and slapped her on the shoulder stumbling more into her space," You know you have such a strange little voice does it always sound like that or is it just me?"
" Are you normally all this talky or am I just special?" Deyanira teased with a smile giving the girl a light tap on her nose causing her to giggle.
"You're very funny what's your name? Oh! I bet it's some mysterious or like goth." The girl questioned eagerly and Deyanira only smirked.
" What would I need to do that for? It's a party dear unless we meet again I'm not sure that it's important to you."
" I'm Tara but you probably already know that," The girl said with a tight smile before taking a sip of her cup.
" I haven't been here long enough to follow rumors besides we aren't school children anymore, I'd rather know someone because they decided to tell me," Deyanira said with a small smile looking into her eyes through the hood of her eyelashes.
The girl couldn't resist but be pulled into her stare. It was like she was almost being blunt and honest about herself and what she knew, yet there was still something hidden beneath.
" Um did you want me to uh get another cup or something?"
" If you don't mind dear?" Deyanira handed her cup to her and watched her rush back into the crowd.
" Wasn't she a sweet one," Deyanira whispered to herself before deciding to go explore a bit further into the crowd hoping eventually she would possibly meet the funny girl later on.
Walking around with only a light buzz to her skin was actually a bit more relaxing than she would've first thought. She had gotten her few share of stares, but not for too long of course when she had given her stares back. Maybe it was the red contacts she was wearing that caused them to flinch back or the toothy grin that she gave revealing the fangs she had installed.
She was only acting as her character, it's not her fault they weren't in the true Halloween spirit. But she was only saying that as a fanatic herself.
When deciding to take a break from her walk she was able to find someplace to sit on some tattered couch which made her grimace but ignored it after another pain shot through her ankle again and quickly sat down so she could try to rest her ankles so they wouldn't break during her next step.
She had wished she would've stayed to at least found the Tara for her drink but she knew she couldn't put up much of a fight to go find her herself.
" Hey, are you alright?"
The sound of a male voice caused her to look up and was met with a sight of a shirtless cowboy with a bandana wrapped around his neck looking down at her with a worried concerned look.
At first, she wanted to question whether he was talking directly to her or possibly he was asking about someone else.
But she didn't ask and instead just stared at him with a confused expression before he asked a bit louder.
" I said are you alright?!" He shouted.
" Oh! I'm fine just needed to rest my feet for a minute nothing to worry about I'm sure," Deyanira replied rubbing her ankle to soothe the backing which of course didn't offer much help as she hoped it would.
" Do you mind?" The stranger asked gesturing to the open space next to her and she responded with a shrug which he had taken as yes setting his cup off to the side.
" Let me guess, you probably think I have no idea what I'm doing and I'm being stubborn instead of asking for help?" Deyanira sarcastically asked still looking down at her ankle trying to loosen the strap.
" I wouldn't say that maybe more persistent or..." He trailed off trying almost looking like he was trying his best not to make a fool of himself or seem too rude causing her to smile. " Come on you can say it, I'm sure it's up there somewhere."
" Do you want me to be completely honest?"
" So soon? At least get me a drink first," Deyanira answered with a smirk leaning back against the cushion where she sat as she rested her elbow on the back of its ledge," I'm not sure they've got anything cool back there anymore but I could get you a cup?"
" What'd you have?" She asked amused as he took a sip of his cup and pondered for a bit before offering it to her which she took before taking a long sip from his cup keeping her eyes connected with his.
When she had finished she brought the half-empty cup down from her lips and handed it back to him which he took back before chugging down the rest in the cup.
" If I can ask how many of those have you had for the night?" She questioned him with a smile as she rested her cheek against the palm of her hand as she crossed her legs and the stranger thought for a second about her question." I'm gonna have to say my third."
" Not much of a drinker?"
" More like not an insane drinker like some of these guys," He shrugged leaning further back onto his side and spreading his legs further apart causing her to spare a glance at the shiftiness or more like the tightness of jeans against his thighs but she didn't let it stare for too long before her eyes were brought back towards his.
" Don't tell me your one of those," Deyanira rolled her eyes with a grin as the stranger chuckled at her response," I promise you if I was I'm sure you'd notice by now."
" How could I notice? There are tons of costumes and sometimes it could be part of the act well if you into that sort of thing," She said with a shrug.
" I can tell you are though those contacts are pretty sick," He complimented with a golden smile, and almost for a moment Deyanira had felt her heart almost pump through past her chest but it was only for flicker.
" Thank you and I'm sure that lovely hat of yours smells like the raches down south," Deyanira commented as he tipped his hat down as a sign of appreciation which caused her to chuckle.
" It's all in day work if you will," He spoke in a terrible country accent causing her to almost burst out laughing but she helped keep it contained by slamming her hand against her mouth.
" Was it that bad?" She responded with a small nod and he began to pout.
" Y-you'll get the hang of it soon love, just give it some more time," She suggested placing a faint pat on his bicep." Not all of his great accents Ms. victorian vampire."
She gasped punching him on the arm," That's the complete opposite of what my costume is and you know it."
" Oh, I'm sure it's exactly what you wanted it to be."
" First, the Hex Girls are an iconic band, and if you've never watched the Scooby doo movie before I'm even more shocked, I mean isn't it the American show."
" Wait are you saying your Thorn?" He asked causing her to gesture from to the tip of her jet-black red-tipped hair down to the tip of her shoes," The one and only."
" Does that mean you came with somebody else?"
" If you must know yes, my friends are dressed as Luna and Dusk," Deyanira replied flipping one side of her hair over her shoulder," That seemed like a cool trio idea."
" Of course it was, unlike some people we like to be a bit more creative with our thoughts," She commented letting her eyes trail off to the side to see Cleo tuning her guitar," I think my costume is fine besides it's not about the creativity it's about the presentation."
" And what may I ask are you presenting to the crowd," She asked with a hint of mischievousness in her tone of voice," A hard worker," He mumbled straightening his posture a bit to seem more sure of his words but she could tell it was the complete opposite of what he had originally wanted to say.
" Then you should've been a construction worker dear, I'm sure you would've had more to work with than just a hat and bandana," She offered with a shrug causing him to look at her offended," It's more than just a hat and a bandana!"
" Do tell," She asked slightly leaning closer towards him enough that he wouldn't notice," It's more to say confidence I'm sure you can wear a shirt and sweatpants and do the same thing."
" I could never, especially at events like these, I mean my look is my signature it's how everyone needs to see me whether I wear a pink tutu or dress like the mistress of darkness, I want people to see me, and let me tell you, the amounts of times I've been called a devil worshiper or sinner is enough by some old white woman I could I add it to my resume at this."
" Well, then what do you see when you look at me?"
The question caused her to fully analyze him.
Sure he had an amazing smile with arms that you wished to hold onto for days and abs only showing the best of his athletic build but she was just sure there was more to him.
Maybe an entire backstory to his life or the faded scars that caressed his face that made her fingers ache to caress. Or the way his eyes had seemed to only be looking forward into hers to the point she had wondered if he even blinked for a second. There was much to look at but never enough to say.
" A protector of yourself and those you care for deeply no matter the battle scars you have to wear it could be millions and as long those are out of harm's way then you've done your job just right."
It seems her words had almost hit a certain place but she couldn't tell whether it was negative or positive it was hard to see what he truly wanted without feeling the need to cloud her own. It was like a feeling of a tide washing past them and the lights and the crowded room had only continued to make them more secluded with themselves.
Or maybe it was the buzz from the cups earlier finally taking effect towards her vision that he had seemed to be coming closer to her and she didn't feel the need to back further away and just before the two could fully endorse into their final touch the sound of sharp but familiar whistle caused Deyanira to turn her head his lips now falling to be met onto her cheek.
Deyanira turned back towards him with a grin as his face was still close to hers now only the tip of their nose touched." That's my cue."
She stood from the bench straightening her dress further down before turning towards the costumed cowboy and tipping down the brim of his hat to cover his view. " See ya cowboy."
Before he could ask for her name she had faded off into the night completely disappearing without giving him a second chance to call for her back or ask her name.
Deyanira practically swam with the crowd toward the side of the makeshift stage where Bree stood reapplying an extra coat of her dark green lipstick. " Are we starting?"
" Sure, say do you think I applied too much?" Bree asked turning her face toward her to which she responded while taking the lipstick tube out of her hand and clasping it shut." Lipstick in this color is always too much."
" Good then."
" Ladies we're ready!"
" After you," Bree offered her hand to Deyanira with a slight bow towards the stairs to which she smiled at the gesture before she grasped her hand and descend up the short staircase and onto the stage floor.
Cleo passed her guitar to her before she walked over to the mic and she brought the strap over her head and onto her shoulder. She struck a few cords as the lights began to dim into a bit of low dark red while smoke began to emerge from the floors.
The sudden change in the atmosphere seemed enough to catch the crowd's attention and made them face the stage.
Deyanira to the mic from its stance. " Well hello, Blackmore drunks."
The crowd began to shout at the mention of their college name not even caring about the insult in the end causing her to grin.
" Before we start this wreck let me make a few things very clear for you all even if you're too sloshy to remember in the next 30 seconds."
" One if you have anything to say then you might as well say it now so when I call you out about it later you won't piss yourself, we don't need more of that smell lingering around here."
A few laughs were heard at her joke as she began to walk towards one side of the stage.
" Two you’re all pissed drunk or either high so there is no guarantee that you'll even remember this tomorrow unless you wake up with gods worst punishment for alcohol."
She added walking back towards her spot in the middle with a few wolf whistles heard while her back was turned. " And last but not least."
She turned back around to the drunk college with a toothy grin just as the red light hit her right in the face highlighting her face while the rest of the room fade to black. " Enjoy the show."
The heavy sounds of a guitar and drums were heard as the fog soon cleared the stage causing the crowd to cheer in excitement.
Deyanira bounced a bit on her feet to let in the adrenaline energy and move along with the music as she placed the mic back on its stand.
Just as the first verse began to rise from her throat she grabbed the neck of her guitar and played along with the rest of the music.
I'm gonna cast a spell on you
You're gonna do what I want you
Mix it up here in my little bowl
Say a few words and you'll lose control
I'm a Hex Girl
And I'm gonna put a spell on you (I'm gonna put a spell on you)
I'm a Hex Girl
And I'm gonna put a spell on you (Put a spell on you)
You'll feel the fog
As I cloud your mind
You'll get dizzy
When I make the sign
You'll wake up in the dead of night
Missing me when I'm out of sight
I'm a Hex Girl
And I'm gonna put a spell on you (I'm gonna put a spell on you)
I'm a Hex Girl
And I'm gonna put a spell on you (Oh yeah)
When the music had ceased into the low bass of Cleo's keyboard notes the light had shifted back in front of Deyanira only focusing on her figure as the fog began to swarm around her feet adding to the effect of deep gaze.
With this little cobweb potion
You'll fall into dark devotion
If you ever lose affection
I can change your whole direction
The light changed from Deyanira's placement back to flashing the usual flashing colors as the girls continued to the final chorus.
I'm a Hex Girl
And I'm gonna put a spell on you (I'm gonna put a spell on you)
I'm a Hex Girl
And I'm gonna put a spell on you
We're gonna put a spell on all of you!
With the final chord struck a loud explosion of red, purple, and green was heard over the crowd as they all cheered.
Deyanira took a breath before moving the guitar by the strap to her back she grabbed onto the microphone waiting for the crowd to simmer down a bit.
" It's a classic really and if you couldn't tell by the fangs that's who you are being present with tonight ladies and gentlemen." The crowd uproaring again along with a few whistles and in response, she winked towards them.
" Now for this next one, you'll be getting a personal favorite of mine an original if you will and when I say original I mean this song is short but worth for the display now shut your lips and listen."
Deyanira brought the instrument back forward and began to play the first strings for the first verse.
Oh, Father, please, please forgive all my sins
The water is way too deep, the deep end is where I live
Father, please, there's blood all over these sheets
The Devil is in the mirror, he's staring right over me I always thought it would be easy
To get you out my mind
I think I found a new addiction
And it feels so right
As the chorus came just off the tip of her tongue the lights had shifted only to her face and only the sound of her strumming guitar played behind her voice.
Run, baby, run, run for your life
I'ma tear out of your heart, it'll always be mine
Run, baby, run, run for your life
Gonna tear out your heart, it'll always be mine
The lights shifted back as the beats of each instrument vibrated through the bottom of the floor as the audience jumped whether they were out of it or fully sober enough to still understand what she was saying.
Oh, therе she go, losing my head
Say you'll love mе to death 'cause I wil
lOh, there she go, show me you care
Say you'll always be there 'cause I will Oh, Father, please, please don't waste anytime
The sirens are turning red, I found a whole 'nother vice
Father, please, she's perfect in your design
She's covered in Saint Laurent, you've shown me the holy light
I always thought it would be easy
To get you out my mind
I think I found a new addiction
And it feels so right
When the music cut off again the red lights shifted back to her face only focusing on her eyes to the point where the red contacts blended in the light.
Run, baby, run, run for your life
I'ma tear out your heart, it'll always be mine
Run, baby, run, run for your life
Gonna tear out your heart, it'll always be mine
Bree beat her drums once again as the music shifted back from Deyanira.
Oh, there she go, losing my head
Say you'll love me to death 'cause I will
Oh, there she go, show me you care
Say you'll always be there 'cause I will
The end of the song was coming closer causing Deyanira to send a signal toward Cleo and Bree about them having 2 more songs left.
Run, baby, run
Run, baby, run
When she had strummed the last string the crowd cheered once more with of course a bit more energy than before. Deyanira settled her hand onto the microphone a bit out of breath and her throat slightly scratchy.
" Is it hot for any of you in here?" She spoke moving a piece of hair from her mouth as she heard a few yes in the crowd soon enough she began to fan her face a bit." You know parties like these are hot because of the sweaty hormones we all display not because of the air and I learned that from my mother."
" Can I get a drink or something?" She asked and soon enough cups were presented or rushed on the stage each filled with whatever concoctions caused her to chuckle and crouched down to the audience level." You're all very sweet."
" Your voice is amazing!"
" Can I get a picture with you?!"
" Take mine!"
She grabbed the cup from a girl dressed in a wonder woman costume." Cheers."
Deyanira took chugged down the girl's cup and was surprised when her tongue was met with a taste of lemon and vodka which almost caused her to choke back but instead, she decided to keep it down and only release a sharp cough. " That's something new."
She handed the girl the empty cup before standing back up and adjusting the microphone a bit while clearing her throat.
" That was a strong one but it's just what I needed for this next song." In a quick moment, the lights had begun to flash from black and red when the sounds of a rushed beat of drums filled the room.
You think you're funny, right?
Callin' me drunk when it's too late at night
Telling me truths that you know all are lies
Yeah, you think you're funny, right? (What?)
You think you're super sly
Flirtin' with them but telling me you're mine
Buildin' me up, but buttercup, you lied
Now I'm gonna ruin your life
With a short pause, the beat began to pick up as the crowd jumped along with the rhythm and energy.
'Cause I've gotten tired of the games that you play
When you tell me you love me then you throw me away
So cry me a river 'til you drown in the lake
'Cause you may think you're winning but checkmate
Yeah, you may think you're winning but checkmate
Bree running beat off the drums moved through to the next verse as Deyanira moved closer to the microphone holding in both her hands as she tucked a strand behind her ear.
Now this is getting fun
I saw you kissing someone else's tongue
You said that I'm the only one you love
Baby, this is getting fun
I'll let you think you won
Date in the park, I'll play it super dumb
Holding your hand, but in the other one
I'm holding a loaded gun
Yeah, baby, you should really run
The beat picked up once again moving to the chorus as she struck through the powering chords.
'Cause I've gotten tired of the games that you play
When you tell me you love me then you throw me away
So cry me a river 'til you drown in the lake
'Cause you may think you're winning but checkmate
Yeah, you may think you're winning but check—
Just as she moved to the bridge the lights began to flash back and forth through the room.
And I'ma get you gone
Can't play me like your pawn
Set fire to your lawn
Just like you did to my heart
And I'ma wreck your car (And I'ma wreck your car)
And max your credit cards (And max your credit cards)
A lover on the large (A lover on the large)
You're gonna wish you never harmed me
The end of the song to a close through the chorus.
'Cause I've gotten tired of the games that you play
When you tell me you love me then you throw me away
So cry me a river 'til you drown in the lake
'Cause you may think you're winning but checkmate
And you did some damage so I'm making you pay
And no one's ever gonna love you anyways
'Cause you're just a narcissist who's totally fake
Yeah, you may think you're winning this heartbreak
But you aren't gonna win it, 'cause checkmate
She received her round of applause as she moved the microphone from her mouth taking in her few deep breaths in through her mouth and out through the nose as the lights shined on her causing the heat to make her vision a bit more blurry.
" Alright this is the last song for the night before we're out of here and you can continue on with your drinking cult activities."
A few upset voices were heard at the thought of the showing being over.
" Boohoo you know why we're here and I just told you all you won't remember this tomorrow so don't get too upset," Deyanira noted moving a piece of her bangs from her sweaty forehead before she took the strap of her guitar over her head. " Now these chords will no longer be mine for this one I shall be handing to my darling Cleopatra herself."
She turned around over to Cleo who rolled her eyes at her comment as she walked over to her and placed the strap over her head.
" I hand my crown to you." Deyanira declared with a bow causing Cleo to lightly push her shoulder causing her to stubble back with a laugh before walking back towards the front of the stage. " Now this song is a bit intense so if you're already hot enough you might want to grab another drink before we start."
Her words caused an immediate uprise in wolf whistles and shout for her to move forward.
" OH shut it."
The lights immediately dimmed back down as the sounds of Cleo's strumming began to play, Deyanira pulled the microphone off the stance while the sound of a low whistle began to be heard before the first verse along with Bree's drum came along.
Well, come and get it now
Come and get it now
Baby, show me what you're doing
Come and turn around
'Cause it's not just a figure of speech
You got me down on my knees
It's getting harder to breathe out
As the next chorus began Deyanira moved to walk down to the other side of the stage her steps making sure to move with each lyric not too slow or fast as hands reached up towards her.
We only met each other just the other day
But you already got me feeling some type of way
Now, if I could figure it out
I'd take you back to my house
So we could meddle about
Cleo's chords began to play a bit louder fitting just right with Bree's beating drums as Deyanira kept along with the next part of the chorus.
We could meddle about
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We could meddle about
No-whoa-oh-oh-oh-ooh
We could meddle about
Whoa-oh-oh-oh-oh
We could meddle about
Deyanira moved toward the other side trailing the chord of the microphone behind her while wrapping her finger behind her. As the words of the verse, she kept her eyes connected with the people below as they followed her.
Girl just scream it out
Tell me what you thinking
No, I wanna to see you undress now
I wanna hear you confess now
She crouched down to the audience's eye level before making eye contact with a young man dressed in a Spider-Man costume who looked flushed enough from either the rise in the temperature or the alcohol in his system.
We only met each other just the other day
But you already got me feeling some type of way
Now if I could figure it out
I'd take you back to my house
So we could meddle about
Standing up she kept her eyes connected with his before breaking it apart and moving back to the middle of the stage while moving onto the next part of the chorus.
We could meddle about
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
We could meddle about
No-whoa-oh-oh-oh-ooh
We could meddle about
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
We could meddle about
The lights soon changed to light black and white flashing as Cleo continued to play the same melody from the beginning and Bree started to hit one of her cylinders. Later, as the music picked up the tempo and Bree hit her set all at once, Cleo started to strike and strum more of her chords forming into her solo.
The whole energy of the room seemed to cause Deyanira to sweat even more she was probably sure it was just the lights or the fact that she was still standing on her feet despite her past complaints of her ankles hurting earlier. But she didn't care much for it especially not at this moment.
She pulled the microphone back toward her lips.
Well, come and get it now
Come and get it now
Baby, show me what you doing
Come and turn around
'Cause it's not just a figure of speech
You got me down on my knees
It's getting harder to breathe out
We only met each other just the other day
But you already got me feeling some type of way
Now if I could figure it out
I'd take you back to my house So we could meddle about We could meddle about
Meddle about
We could meddle about
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
We could meddle about
Whoa-oh-oh-oh
We could meddle about
With the last lyric finally left her mouth and an explosion of silver and black confetti was thrown over the crowd head as they gave the trio a round of applause.
Deyanira rushed over to Cleo and jumped into her arms. " YOU FUCKING WRECKED IT."
While she continued to jump on the tip of her toes as Cleo just held her back and laugh at her enthusiasm Deyanira felt Bree hug her from behind just as sweaty as her.
" Come on up we go," Bree warned, and before Deyanira could question she was suddenly swept from her feet into a bridal carry by Bree who began to carry her into the front of the stage while Cleo trailed behind.
Cleo bowed while Bree just bowed her head with Deyanira still in her arms as she laughed and waved to the crowd.
" Alright say your goodbyes dear," Bree announced as she began to walk towards the exit of the stage with Deyanira still smiling largely as she waved towards the crowd and sent air kisses before she was out of their view.
The trio descended off to the side before Bree set Deyanira back to her feet and as soon as she was the girls joined in another group hug.
" Can you even believe that?!" Deyanira squealed as the adrenaline still played in her skin her friends laughed at her enthusiasm and seeing as they were a bit out of breath it was more of a wheeze. " Oh, I can just smell the musky air of England as we speak!"
" We could get there even faster if we start packing up, get the money, and get the hell out of here," Cleo suggested as she found a napkin and began to wipe some of the sweat off her neck. " Oh, Cleo we can't just leave now we need to celebrate the victory we just stashed in."
" She's right I mean we just performed in front of a crowd that enjoyed the beginning and the end of the show this calls for more alcohol!" Deyanira announced as she shimmied her shoulder's with a large grin on her face as Bree whooped in agreement causing Cleo to roll her eyes," Fine but only a couple then we're getting on the first plane back in the morning."
" We shall do as you please our queen Cleopatra," Bree and Deyanira spoke in unison as they bowed their ends to Cleo before shoving them off into the crowd causing them to giggle." Off before I have both your heads!".
As they moved through the crowd they were met with fans who enjoyed their show and even asked for a few pictures but they had to decline and only move forward towards the drinking table.
" My sweet reward of life oh how you are just perfect," Deyanira swooned as she held her hand tightly against her heart at the sight of the drink dispenser causing Bree to laugh. " Your only true love really."
" Oh, I wouldn't say that it would almost make me sound like an alcoholic which I'm not of course," Deyanira spoke as she grabbed an empty solo cup and filled it a bit before moving over to the next and filling it as well and then moving over to the next until it was at the brim, " You don't say."
" And I shall now, only if you don't mind, absorb my victory." She began to take gulps off from her cup until there was a bit streaming down the side of her chin before finally taking it down from her mouth and wiping the side of her mouth smugging her dark red lipstick. " How is that victory, Dey?"
" Beautiful," She replied with a smug grin and began to go in for another sip of her drink before stopping and looking from the corner of her eye she had found the funny cowboy from earlier. " And I think I know something that'll make it magnificent."
Bree looked to find what she was staring at her before her eyes finally found the shirtless cowboy and immediately she looked back at Deyanira with a concerned look," The cowboy?"
Deyanira replied with a nod as Bree began to look between them back and forth before shrugging, " Not too bad."
" I know right," She grinned taking a few more sips from her cup overlooking him through the lid of her cup as Bree walked over to the dispenser and filled up her own cup.
" You chatted him up yet?"
" Yep, a completely warm biscuit you just wanna hold on to for a while longer than you should."
" By the look of those arms, you sure can hold on to him," Bree said with a grin as Deyanira let out a snort and rolled her eyes before moving a strand of her hair out of her face. " I promise you if I could, I would."
" Well, you can and you should."
" We're supposed to be leaving the country in 24 hours all I can do for now is enjoy whatever moments I can get and forget about it the next morning," Deyanira declared as Bree just rolled her eyes before shoving her shoulder with hers.
"Then make your move while you still can and I'm sure whatever happens you'll both enjoy it," Bree advised as she watched her friend's pondering expression before it looked like she had come to her decision." Can I get another drink first?" She asked.
" Nope you need a memory, now head straight in," Bree briefed as she shoved her into the crowd causing her to stumble forward and send a glare towards her friend who gave her an enthusiastic thumbs up, and in response, she flipped her off.
" Gonna push me headfirst, I know what to do," Deyanira mumbled to herself as she maneuvered through the crowd taking in a few sips to help smooth out the twitches in her fingers.
She wasn't avoiding him of course she just didn't know what she would say to him once they had met. She had hoped that something or more like someone would just push him to talk to her first.
She had decided to stop in her steps and watch him from afar now debating whether she should just turn back around and come up with an excuse that she had lost him or he was taken. Just as she was about to turn back around his eyes found hers and the look of recognization made the tension she had felt in her shoulders drop.
Deyanira sent him a short smile and a wave before he beckoned for her to come over to which she shook her head no. To which he looked to her confused and she just lifted the tip of her cup towards him.
He looked about ready to ask her what she had meant by the gesture but suddenly someone had blocked her view and began to flood her with compliments on her voice and her performance. Though she was startled by the sudden appearance she gave them the normal respectful response and just before she tried to come up with an excuse to separate herself another one had appeared out of now and then another.
She began to feel closed in by the sudden group of people and frustrated by their constant questions. She had then tried to find an exit point but when she saw there was none she huffed out a breath but of course, none of them had noticed her uncomfortable state.
When she began to feel their hands grab at her shoulders she flinched back trying to make space but she would only back into someone else.
Heat began to rise in her in the tip of her fingers while the ache to push or move one of the strangers from her space had become a desire of her's before she clenched her fingers into a fist.
As the personal space only began to become more crowded her expression remained flat and the people's voice had only made her want to dig a deeper hole.
It was too close for her. Too crowded. Too many people. Too much heat.
When the heat began to rise from her neck and toward her face, she felt that the restraint to remain collected only begin to fall down.
Before she acted out the said emotion against the cause for her uncomfortable state the one side of the people that once swarmed her were pulled apart and a familiar face with the same cowboy hat met her eyes once again.
" You alright?" He asked as he was also being shoved while Deyanira just clenched her jaw and she quickly darted towards the surrounding people which thankful he took as an I sign that she had not been alright.
He maneuvered through the crowd to get closer to her which had been a bit funny to watch but when he finally made it to her, he was close enough to the point where she couldn't even feel the need to back away like she had felt before.
It had seemed that she hadn't been the only one to notice their closeness with each other but there was a possibility that she hadn't been the only one that didn't mind it as well.
He had begun to say something but she couldn't care enough to hear him at the moment so instead, she just nodded. She could feel his hand grasp hers and pull her through the crowd.
As they moved through the flock of people she began to feel a smile creep to her lips when she began to come to a realization of the scenario that formed in her head of her being carried away by some prince charming.
When they had finally made it to an open space Deyanira finally tried to catch her breath trying her best to find her words before she could answer his questions.
" I should be thanking you for that shouldn't I?" She questioned turning to him and in response, he shrugged. " It's up to you really."
" Well if you didn't I probably would've knocked one of them, then who knows what would've happened next," She replied with a grin causing him to chuckle and once again she felt that same pump in her chest.
" It would've been justified so you wouldn't have to feel too guilty afterward," The cowboy answered with a wink causing her smile to widen, and almost feel the need to giggle but luckily she kept it down.
" So I guess I don't need to thank you?" Deyanira asked with a slight tilt of her head and he just shrugged again causing her to roll her eyes and walked off at a slow pace just in case he would've liked to follow which he did." I think that hat of yours is finally in your brain."
" That would mean that I would be a zombie and last time I checked I don't really like eating brains at the moment," He quipped before looking down and noticing that their hands had still been together which made him smile. " Now that would've been a good costume a zombie cowboy."
" Nah too boring."
" Oh come on, everyone likes a bit of scaring and blood especially on nights like these like you said confidence is key," Deyanira justified as she stopped when she finally found an empty spot for them which made her face him with a short grin while walking back towards the open wall. " That's entirely different."
" Have you seen the type of art people make these days? Let me tell you dear it doesn't stop there in fact don't you have that terrible movie series," She questioned as she felt her back finally meet the wall and when she noticed that he had been looking down it made her do the same and had finally seen that their hands together.
She stared at their joined hands for a few seconds before taking a sip out of her cup that surprisingly still had a bit of drink left in it even after all the traveling they had done.
" Had they always been like that?" She asked looking back up towards him with a breathy chuckle hoping that the pumping in her chest would become less feverish.
She waited for his response but instead, he seemed to give her hand a squeeze before looking into her eyes with the same golden smile.
There it was again that same tide-washing feeling despite the music and crowded people that surrounded the room but this time she didn't feel any pain and she wasn't too tipsy that she couldn't tell whether or not he was really getting closer to her.
She could tell that he was getting closer this time and it wasn't by accident more so it was like she was pulling him towards her by their hands but she didn't think he cared enough to notice it.
Once he was close enough to her to the point that she could feel the heat of his bare torso press against her body while their hands stayed joined together.
As she felt the tip of their noses graze each other Deyanira whispered " Do you still want that thank you from early?"
Instead of receiving a word answer, she was met with the pressure of his lips against hers.
Their kiss started off in a slow movement neither was willing to move too fast for the other as they were willing to just let the other make the first move while the other followed behind.
Deyanira let herself fall into the bliss of his touch willing to hold onto tighter to his hand as he kept him closer to her practically pressing her into the wall.
The sudden desperation that began to rise through her body came at a slow pace but she could tell there was no need for her to stop from coming. She had felt that she knew why he wasn't willing to push himself onto her since they had only just met there was no need for either of them to move too fast.
The feeling of her heart squeezing at the considering gesture made her smile appear against their shared lips.
When she remembered that their hands were still joined together she took her hand from his and the sound of his hummed protest against the sudden loss and looked to want to pull away to ask why.
But he stopped after she placed his hand back into her's but instead, she interlocked their fingers together with a tight squeeze as confirmation that there was nothing to question or worry about.
He responded by squeezing it back and moving his free hand down to her waist and pulling her closer towards him and away from the wall which had almost made her drop her cup to the floor.
Before the two could eventually get the chance to move forward with their actions a heavy tap on the cowboy's shoulder caused him to pull away from their intimate moment and turned towards his attacker.
" If you don't mind, we need some help."
She then walked off before he could give an answer he then turned toward Deyanira who just gave him a short nod which made him groan before looking off into the direction of where the girl had walked off and turned back to her once again to see that she had begun to giggle.
He proceeded to turn back to her, cup her cheeks, and a repeated number of pecks on her forehead, the tip of her nose, and then her lips which had lingered a bit longer before pulling away.
" Wait for me?"
She smirked before grabbing the cowboy hat off the top of her curly head and placing it on top of hers.
" Sure thing partner." She jested as she slightly tipped the hat making him chuckle and roll his eyes before pushing the end of his hat over her eyes causing her to lose sight of where he had ended up running off to.
Deyanira brought adjusted the hat properly on her head barely trying to hide her large smile that just made her feel as though she was just some middle school girl.
" Dey we finished packing up you ready?"
Deyanira had heard Bree's voice from behind her but instead of responding she just gave her a slow almost dreamy nod.
Bree noticed that her friend had not given her an answer so she slid in front of her to see her strange almost lovesick expression causing her to grin," Let me guess it went well?", Deyanira sighed before looking at her friend with a sly grin.
" I never kiss and tell." She responded flicking the tip of her hat before walking off towards Cleo who had been standing not too far from them as Bree began to pester and tease her with questions.
" Oh come on Deyanira, you've just met a lad that made you look like some 60s lovesick high school cheerleader and you're keeping it to yourself? My days, he must've sucked out your brains while you were at it."
" Bree my dear what is there to tell it was a moment of lips and touch nothing worthy of a scandal I'm sure."
" But it must've been looking at that lipstick of your's, I can just tell he'll be remembering a few more things." Bree winked as she shoved her shoulder against Deyanira causing her to roll her eyes.
" Yeah well, I wouldn't have worn it if didn't plan to make a few marks," Deyanira answered with a smirk as she wiped a bit of smug of her lipstick with her thumb while her friend let out a cackle.
" Cleo you've got to see this!" Bree called out as Cleo just shook her head and handed Deyanira her jacket which she took and put on." I'm sure you can wait until after we get paid."
"If you don't mind me asking?"
" It's right here," Cleo answered holding up the white envelope that made Deyanira smile even larger as she snatched it out of her hand and head out towards the entrance with her friends not too far from her completely missing the whole entire incident behind them.
Deyanira ripped open the envelope and began to count the stack of cash inside as she came closer to the cold outside air.
As she continued to count she began to notice that there seemed to be $900 missing causing her smile to slowly disappear and her fast walking stride to slow down letting her friends finally catch up to her.
" I'm not liking that look on your face Dey," Bree spoke up as Deyanira began to count again to make sure that her mind hadn't been tricking her but each time she counted it was the same as before.
" It's $300."
The sound of the number caused Bree and Cleo to look at each other before Cleo snatched the envelope out of her hand and begin to count the cash as well.
" You can't be serious?" Bree whispered looking towards Cleo with worry as she counted the money as well and when she had reached the final bill she was met with the same amount again.
" It's $300 Bree," Cleo answered with disappointment in her expression and voice as Bree shook her head in disbelief. " Maybe you missed a few, I mean it's supposed to be $1200 like they said."
" Does this," Deyanira snatched the envelope out of Cleo's hand and pulled out the paper bills, " look like $1200 to you does it?" she waved the paper in her clenched hand the anger only showing her trembling fingers.
Bree didn't respond and instead just held her head down as Cleo cupped her hands around her face she looked just as tense as she had felt when she had counted the bills in the first place.
" It's gotta be a joke or some weird Halloween trick, right?"
" Trick or not I'm not laughing," Deyanira spoke before getting ready to rush back towards the party and find the stupid cocky bastard that decided to rip them off but she was stopped before Bree and Cleo pushed her back.
" Come on Dey you need to be rational right now."
" It's not worth it not tonight."
Deyanira only continued to struggle against their hold remaining to keep her face controlled as she could feel the worthless crumpled with $300 clenched in between her fist only making her seeth with more rage.
" Deyanira just let it go-"
" WHY SHOULD I LET IT GO?!"
Deyanira's shout caused her friends to put an end to their restraint but made sure to keep their grips on her just in case.
" Get your hands off of me!" Deyanira yelled and fought her arms out of her friend's harsh grasp which made them quickly let it go in fear of not wanting to hurt their friend.
She breathed heavily as she tried her best to control the few tears that had made their way down her cheeks from her spat before. The cold air had somewhat helped cooled down her body heat but it wasn't helping form the emotion she had felt.
" We are not here out of some free will or a vacation, we here because our parents made a decision and told us we weren't right for their perfect family so we were abandoned. This was our chance to go back home and prove it to them that we were just right for them."
" I refuse to let this chance slip from fingers just because some dick headed white frat boy decided we weren't worth a full price, because we bloody were."
Deyanira began to feel tears flood her eyes but she didn't care much for hiding them at the moment.
" We're 19 years old, not in school, living in cheap motels, and eating microwavable food whenever we have enough money for it," Deyanira let out a trembling laugh as she wiped her nose with her sleeve.
" And one day these parties aren't gonna last forever and then we'll have nothing left...not even each other."
Deyanira crouched to the ground before sitting down on the ground with her knees to her chest as she hid her face in her crossed arms.
It was overwhelming to feel such things in just a matter of seconds and if there was a possibility she could find the cause of it, she tried her best to get rid of it so that it would hurt her anymore.
" We're not some famous band. We are a bunch of sad, abandoned, little orphans with no guarantee of a bright future."
What else could she say it was the honest truth for them to realize whether they ignored it for as long as they could it would be there for them to remember every day.
Bree sat down next to Deyanira's huddled form and slowly rubbed her back as Cleo sat on the other side of her and placed her head on her shoulder.
" You've never been the type of girl to accept things when you know you deserve better," Cleo spoke as she faced the empty gravel making sure to keep her voice low and calm." But I think that's what makes you who you are."
" Because, unlike some people who can be selfish and expect everyone to follow them, you know where you lie in your own way."
" Sure we aren't in the best situation at the moment and haven't for a long time but we've made it this far and that's the best result for the ones who never got the chance like we had."
" But we know that twats like them exist everywhere in the world England or America, they're everywhere. It's kind of hard to avoid them honestly."
The words weren’t comforting they did at least ease the heavy weight Deyanira had felt carrying over her, “ That doesn’t make what they did any better and to make it even worse we’re still down $900.” An empty silence of regret and sorrow seems to be their answer before Bree decided to stand up first.
“ Then we get even better.” Deyanira looks up at her confused by her short conclusion, “ With what money?” Cleo decides to stand up next with more triumphant in her stance than before, “ With what we’ve got left. They don’t need us back so soon, they’ve got time.”
Deyanira stared at her friends in disbelief at their confidence and cheeriness seeing as everything that they had worked so hard for had all came crumbling down right in front of them only just a few minutes ago, “ Out of all the years we’ve spent together, you both still do nothing but surprise the hell out of me.” Bree lets out a snort as she offers her hand, “ I’m afraid that’s what we’re meant for dear.” Deyanira rolls her eyes with a grin before taking the offered hand in her grasp allowing Bree to lift her from the ground.
“ Now ladies,” Deyanira wraps both her arms around her friends shoulders causing them to bend down into her level of height, “ I believe this disaster of a night causes for something warm to soak up those drinks we had earlier, what do you say?” Bree gives a snap as an idea had popped in her head, “ Why don’t we try that soup place we saw last week? We’ve got enough cash for it now.”
As the girls begin to walk towards the exit Cleo shakes her head in disagreement, “ I don’t think soup should be in our stomaches right now, how about that food truck we saw when we came here?”
Deyanira gives a shrug, “ I don’t mind but I do have to say whatever smell was coming from that guys truck was definitely not his cooking.”
Though the night hadn’t ended in the way the girls had wished for, they would find a way to fix everything soon just not right now.
As the girls continued to walk down the walkway Bree had pulled them back to a stop, “ Isn’t that you’re cute cowboy over there?” With no restraint Deyanira looked in the direction to see both him standing quite far from from in front of them.
Before she could speak any further a girl had suddenly walked over to the woman in a white sweater and threw her drink on her which caused Bree and Cleo to gasp in shock at the sheer audacity, “ Jesus Christ!” For second the girls couldn’t help but watch the disaster escalating as each group did their best to keep the girls separated from each other.
“ Do you two mind if I handle that?” Cleo and Bree gave each other a look before giving a shrug in unison, “ Behind you.” Immediately the girls couldn’t help but walk forward and watch as the girls throw her last insult as her friends continued to record and laugh with their snarky laughs at which Deyanira clenched her fist with a tighter grip.
As the girls had reached them in a perfect distance Deyanira had moved her foot in front of the blonde ponytail causing the girl to trip face first onto the hard graveled ground. Immediately the group of girls gasped but the trio hadn’t cared to look behind them,“ Hey, what the hell is your problem?!” The girls turned around and looked at them in confusion, “ Excuse me?”
“ You just tripped her,” Deyanira held in her amused expression by rolling her eyes, “ The poor girls been drinking all night of course she tripped.” One of the girls with her cell phone in hand pointed towards them stepped forward, “ We saw you do it.”
Bree and Cleo took their steps forward almost guarding her, “ We saw her throw her drink at the girl back there, so whose wrong here?” The girl with her pony tail had spoken up and turned to her with a bruised chin and bloody nose, “ You’re not from here clearly so you don’t know shit about what she’s done.”
Deyanira stepped right in the girls face causing her to flinch back, “ I don’t need to be from anywhere to know what type of shitty person you already are, so the next time you wanna scream bloody murder make sure you do it to someone who’s willing to do it the right way.”
The silence between the girl was tense as they stared each other in the eye neither willing to back down.
“ Unlike her, I’m willing to throw my punches and god knows I can throw the right one at the right bitch.” For a moment Deyanira couldn’t help but enjoy the fuel of fear that flashed in her eyes before she took a step back, “ Whatever, if you know what’s best, I would stay away from those freaks.”
Cleo let out a scoff, “ Hush it piglet tails, why don’t you and your little hog litter run along and pick up whatever trash you see on the way.” Deyanira and Bree didn’t hold back their laughter as the girls looked red-faced and embarrassed as they walked away.
“ These American white girls, nothing but fruity drinks and tight clothes to suck up their brain cells.” Deyanira couldn’t help but chuckle at the insult Bree had made as she turned around to be faced with shocked reaction from all party members. Deyanira raised her eyebrow in confusion, “What’s wrong? Did one of them get their spray tan on me?” She began to wipe down her clothes looking for any residue left over.
The woman in the white sweater shook her head as she spoke first, “Nothing I-I just didn’t expect that.” Deyanira gave a shrug as she stuffed her hands into the pockets of Bree’s leather jacket, “ Don’t worry about it, that’s not even one of the worst things I could’ve done tonight.”
Though she looked unsure as to how to respond she decided to not question any further, “ Yeah I guess so…but thank you…I think?” Bree pulls an arm tightly around Deyanira shoulders pulling her closely to her side, “ Bystanders are cowards not victims.”
The girl with curly hair decided to speak up first, “ Sorry to cut this short but we’ve got get back and we don’t have the free time to cause anymore problems.” Cleo gives a comforting and careful smile, “ We’ve got to run back home ourselves but if you run to trouble like that again and we are anywhere nearby, grab Deyanira.”
Rolling her eyes, Deyanira grabs onto her friend’s arms and walks them forward, “ I hope to meet you all in somewhat better circumstances.” As she walks past in almost slow motion her eyes catch the cowboy now wearing his letterman jacket at which she couldn’t deny herself the small smile before she looked away and continued down the path with her friends in tow with the weight of hat making her feel just a bit heavier than before.

Please realize this is a situation that matters for the whole world to see. We need change in our world and that starts with holding the murders accountable for their actions against Sonya Massey.
With the video that was realeased it should fuel you to see that policing system is still corrupt and has once again taken another mother from her family. We need change and that change comes from the sources of public power and voice.
Say. Her. Name.
sonya massey was killed in her own home.
she called the police for help, and they killed her over her pot of water and her trying to banish evil spirits from her home (there was a intruder suspected)
she apologized, and they shot her.
“she had boiling water” that doesnt mean sean grayson should have killed her.
sonya massey.
sonya massey.
sonya massey.
sonya massey.
we black women cant even be okay in our own home, who are we supposed to call now?
police officers are supposed to protect and serve the public. but they only protect themselves.
SAY HER FUCKING NAME.

speak up 🆙 🗣️📣
{(ENGLISH NOT MY FIRST LANGUAGE, IGNORE IT OR PLS FEEL FREE TO CORRECT ME)}
SO
I just saw a post talking about "readers" "y/n" whatever, being so so small, so cute, so adorable... Then we, taller bitches, being like: 🤡
I like when writers avoid talking about appearance and gender and stuff like that, so can we also include height pls? Cuz it's makes me cringe so bad when the reader are "you looking so small, he could tower you" "you're so small that (insert character) could carry you easily"💀
And I'm like "bitch I'm 5'7 wth??"
And I not even >that< tall, but I still cringe so fcking hard. So I can't even imagine my real tallest babies out there..
So pls, writers, unless the character is REALLY REALLY HUGE, can we just avoid talk about it?
My giraffes readers out there, feel free to reblog this, lets make this a thing pls lmao
.
.
.
.
.
I'm sorry if I'm making this a little bit too personal (cuz I rly am), but I need to say, this have been one of my biggest insecurities for my whole life. In my country, the smallest ones have always been the most likeables, so this didn't help much with my self-love. (Also me not being white with straight hair, but we're not talking about this now).
So yeah, lets rly make this a thing pls
