I am in the process of fixing the season 5 finale. It is absolutely disgusting what the writers did to Helen in 5x12, so I am here to clear her name. This will be at least 3 chapters. Here’s a teaser. You can read the rest in AO3!

“Four years ago, you ran a blind cancer drug trial where 89% of the participants were white! You cut corners to expedite the process! Don’t deny it!”

Helen is more confused than ever! “I beg your pardon?!” she declares in shock, cautioning Max to choose his next words carefully.

“You approved discriminatory parameters on a drug that had the potential to cure my cancer! You ran a skewed trail to save my life because you loved me!”

Helen blankly stares at Max, racking her brain for any memory of the incident in question. “I haven’t the slightest idea what you’re talking about!”

I am heartbroken to hear the news that Freema will not be back for season 5. I'm not really mad at her, I'm pissed off at the writers! They didn't treat Helen the way they should have, which is what probably made Freema leave.

I'm just gonna live in denial and pretend Max and Helen lived happily ever after! If you haven't read it yet, my fanfiction, Ease Away My Doubts, goes through their relationship starting at the end of season 3 as if London never happened. Max and Helen are finally pregnant in that story! Here’s a preview:

Helen rolls over to look at the man in bed next to her. Max is facing her, still sound asleep. The sun creates a broad-shouldered silhouette, and passes through his hair, giving it a golden tint. She has a sudden desire to run her fingers through his shaggy mane, but doesn’t want to wake him.

Taking matters into my own hands! If anyone needs some catharsis after that episode, I have written a Sharpwin wedding in my current story I started after the season 3 finale (only canon compliant up until then). It would have been a rooftop wedding had it not taken place in January.

The New York City skyline is still dark, but the streets are bustling with the sound of traffic. Helen wakes up a little earlier than normal, unable to sleep any longer. On instinct, she flings her arm to the left side of the bed only to feel it empty. Her eyes shoot open, landing on the light reddish-brown painted design on her hands. Then it hits her: It’s today! she muses. The last time Helen saw Max was yesterday at noon when she left to get her wedding henna done, an Islamic tradition they decided to incorporate. Wanting to reserve seeing anything of Helen’s wedding attire until she walks down the aisle, he left before she got back and stayed with Floyd for the night.

Everything about this is 🔥!

Yes, (most of the) fandom fully accepts that Max and Helen were having an emotional affair in season 1, but as soon as Akash and the clairvoyant called them out on it, Helen put up boundaries. (Max was still an idiot about it though 🙄) And it was because of the guilt of the emotional affair that it took them so long to finally get together. I personally don’t think they would have physically crossed the line had Georgia not died. They’re too morally upstanding.

Iggy is driving me insane! I used to love him and Martin together, but his narcissistic personality disorder is really coming out this season. It causes him to go behind Martin’s back and hire Trevor because he liked the confidence boost. He then gaslighted (gaslit?) Martin when confronted about it. The fact that Iggy even had to hide all this and ask Trevor if something happened between them means they crossed an emotional boundary. His insecurities and dissatisfaction with his life is something he should be talking about with his husband, not his flirtatious subordinate employee.

Don’t get me wrong, I really want Martin and Iggy to work out, but Iggy needs to learn a hard lesson first.

Thanks for saying the unsaid lmao. Helen and Max had a whole emotional affair and I always see it being swept under the rug. I mean like 10 episodes in the man fully says “I Love My Doctor” like sir hUH. Go visit your bedridden wife maybe. I hate that they fridged her but I’m also lowkey glad because I think they might have had Max and Helen physically cross the line had Georgia been alive and that’s not it at all.

I've been in this fandom since the show started and I said it back then that Helen and Max were having an emotional affair. The biggest difference is that they were both in denial about it. They were always under the guise of friendship until Helen said she had to pick between being his doctor, friend, and deputy. Neither of them hit on the other as openly as Tevor did with Iggy.

But Akash noticed, and if Georgia had been allowed to live she would have seen it too. I always said that they were very strategic in how they dealt with that because they didn't want us to see Max as a villain. They were in such denial that I don't think they would have crossed the line physically.

Sadly, Iggy's narrative is riddled with insecurity which is one of the reasons people might cheat.
