Against the bloodline?? 👀

This was a work in progress that I started in November 2024, but my writing made me cringe and I gave up 😂

The plot:

- Voldemort’s power is growing, unrest in the wizarding world - At Hogwarts, students with Muggle parents are being cursed, and Sirius is suspected because of his family - Remus and Sirius grow closer because they both feel like outcasts - Resolution: Regulus overhears a Slytherin bragging about their curse, and tells Sirius/Remus. Remus and Sirius come up with a plan to get the Slytherin to admit that they were the one who did it.

This what I had written so far:

Remus rubbed his tired eyes and pulled the Daily Prophet out from under a steaming platter of bacon and eggs. Across the House table, James cheerfully tore open two letters, just delivered by a large barn owl. “This one’s from Mum and Dad!” James’ eyes darted quickly across the parchment. “They had a lovely Christmas with their friends in Ulster. The Agnews sent this,” he passed a large, brown-paper-wrapped box to Sirius, “and they want to know if that secret passage behind the tapestry of Hedwig the Hungry is still known among the students these days.” “Last year, Moony and I had to hide in there for half an hour from Filch,” said Sirius, tearing off the wrapping paper from James’ parcel. “Remember? When we tried to hex Snape’s socks to smell like wet dog, but accidentally flooded half the corridor with stinking water?” “Bloody hell, mate, did you really have to remind me of that?” groaned Remus. He gave Sirius a hard thump on the upper arm, but Sirius only grinned back cheekily.

James continued in a high-pitched voice, a surprisingly good imitation of his mother, “‘Mafalda and Richard were ever so impressed that our son is doing so well at Hogwarts and in the Quidditch team. We’re so proud of you, darling.’ Ha, she definitely didn’t tell them about the suits of armour we made breathe fire at every Slytherin that walked past last month,” James glanced mischievously from Sirius to Remus through his round glasses. “Now that’s something to be proud of!”

Sirius chuckled from the corner of his mouth and tossed a chocolate from the now-opened parcel at James’ head. He snatched it swiftly out of the air and shoved it in his mouth, already unfolding his second letter.

“Peter says he won the snowball fight on his street—wow, good on him—Oh, wait, he was on a team with Macmillan and Abbott, they’re of age and already allowed to use magic outside school, and they’d enchanted the snowballs…”

Remus fished out a chocolate from the box on Sirius’ lap and flipped open the newspaper. His eyes were drawn to a moving black-and-white photograph beneath the headline: ‘Charity Ball at the Ministry’London – 26 December 1975 Incoming Minister for Magic Harold Minchum marked the start of his term with a glittering ball for Ministry officials and major benefactors. Following the forced resignation of former Minister Eugenia Jenkins last month, Minchum is said to be more than ready to take the helm. We interviewed Mr Orion Black, who attended with his wife, Walburga.

“Our family has had the pleasure of financially supporting Minister Minchum’s policy work, to help restore strength and skill to the wizarding community. We must ensure that the foundation of our society is purged of the weaknesses of these times. Hogwarts plays a key role in this. Education is currently free for students of both magical and Muggle-born descent, but is funded through wizarding tax money, and has been for generations. It would be fairer if Muggle-borns and half-bloods paid tuition fees, to balance this burden. Quality education is of utmost importance to raise our children into capable witches and wizards, and such a contribution would surely benefit the school. I have high ambitions for my children” (Sirius and Regulus Black are currently in their fifth and fourth years respectively at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry, ed.)

“Many are afraid to speak these truths, for fear of powerful wizards who believe their views are the only ones that matter. Mr Riddle is one of the few who dares to challenge that.”

This is what I was planning:

James, Remus, and Sirius are having breakfast one morning after Christmas. Peter has gone home, but James stayed at Hogwarts for his friends and because his parents are on holiday in Ireland (visiting old school friends). Remus rubs his eyes—he, James, and Sirius stayed up a bit too late last night, caught up in a funny conversation and planning a prank for after the Christmas holidays.

In the Daily Prophet, Remus reads an article about a Ministry ball. There's a photo of Voldemort shaking hands with the Minister. In the photo, Sirius and Regulus’ parents are also visible. Remus reads an interview with Sirius’ father. James reads them Peter’s letter, which just arrived. Remus listens with half an ear while still reading the article. Sirius secretly reads along but pretends to be listening to James.

In Peter’s letter, he writes that he had a nice Christmas and had a snowball fight with other kids from his neighborhood. The 17-year-olds were already allowed to use magic outside school, so he lost. James’ parents sent chocolate and a note saying they had told their Irish school friends how well James was doing at school and in Quidditch. James grins a bit at this, and Remus notices that Sirius is secretly jealous of such nice parents.

Remus nudges Sirius to get a reaction from him reading along, asking what he thinks. Sirius rolls his eyes. James notices that Sirius is no longer listening to him and looks over at the article too.

Other students return to Hogwarts after the holiday. They whisper about the article, and Remus notices that Sirius is getting suspicious looks. There's speculation that Sirius’ family is grooming him for a future at the Ministry—on Voldemort’s side. Sirius initially ignores it—he's been through this before, back in first year.

Classes start again the next morning. A Hufflepuff refuses to partner with Sirius in Defense Against the Dark Arts. James tells Sirius not to let it get to him, that he knows he’s better than his family.

Then, a Muggle-born student is attacked by an unknown assailant (someone from Slytherin, but no one knows that yet). Other students think Sirius might have done it. Earlier, a rumor had started that Sirius had called someone a "Mudblood," but it was taken out of context. A Slytherin was provoking Sirius, and he responded with a sarcastic remark that included the word "Mudblood." Something possibly related to Snape and Lily?

James hears about it, and although he isn’t dating Lily yet, he still gives Sirius a weird look.

Quidditch Match: Remus is in the stands as a spectator. During a match against Slytherin, someone in the audience hexes Sirius’ Quidditch robes to turn Slytherin green and silver. "He’s showing his true colours." Sirius doesn’t notice because he’s flying. He gets hit by a Bludger from one of his own teammates. The match is almost over, but due to the confusion and being a player down, Gryffindor loses. The team is frustrated, and James is moody from all the drama and the loss. That evening in the dormitory, James and Sirius argue. James doesn’t understand why Sirius lets the bullying get to him, since he knows he’s on the right side. James’ whole family is on the right side, so he struggles to relate to Sirius’ situation. The fight is really about their communication problem: a lack of empathy for each other’s perspective.

Sirius is angry, Remus is there for him.

The culprit behind the wand curses is caught. He either has some kind of proof on him, accidentally reveals knowledge only the attacker would know, or corrects someone’s assumption about the curse and thus exposes himself. Regulus had already tipped off Remus about him.

James apologizes to Sirius.

The Queer Eye London loft is located on the second floor of a gorgeous red brick warehouse on St. John Street, between the welcoming, rainbow offices of Stonewall UK and a Pret A Manger.

In a kitchen of sleek black cabinets, stainless steel appliances, and seamless marble countertops, Peter chops colorful carrots and bell peppers on a natural wood cutting board.

“Remus struggles to take care of himself at a basic level,” he says in voiceover. “So I want to make cooking and eating easy for him to fit into his schedule. And if he learns to enjoy it in the process, that’s even better.”

In the loft’s sundrenched sitting room, James lounges on a contemporary sofa the color of sand, surrounded by leafy plants and reading (or pretending to read) The Velvet Rage.

In his voiceover, he says, “Remus has a lot to share with the world, he just has to take the leap. I want to help him take those necessary first steps out of his comfort zone – and look good doing it.”

In a spacious walk-in closet with glass doors and walls adorned with textural abstract art, Sirius browses through a rack of shirts and trousers in luxurious jewel tones.

“Do I think Remus needs to change? Not in the slightest,” he says in his voiceover. “But… I would be lying if I said I didn’t notice the state of disrepair his clothes and flat are in, and he deserves better than that. So this week, I’m going to help Remus live and feel like the beautiful, wonderful man he is.” After a pause, he adds, “Or else James will yell at me.”
