James and Lily Potter weren't heroes. They weren't extraordinary wizards who did great things and died a tragic death.

They were two people with questionable morals, who died doing the most normal thing: trying to protect their child. The bare minimum.

The wizarding world made idols out of these two very unheroic people, just because of the nature of their death.

There was no radical hero. There was no confusing out of character change.

Because they were never heroes. The world just treated them as heroes, and rewrote their history to fit in with that.

Because surely people who died like that have to be extraordinary. Only extraordinary, wonderful people go on to end up like that. Only two extraordinary, powerful people could have a baby that overpowers the Dark Lord. It couldn't have happened to just anyone, right?
