That’s still me, haha. I just wanted to add that I’d love to buy something from your shop, but I live in fckin’ Russia and don’t have access to buying anything from other countries (except for China, lol). I wish for the war to end as soon as possible, and for the fascist regime to fall. Maybe I’ll even witness the day when it won’t be illegal to be queer in Russia. Maybe even marry my girlfriend… Sorry, I’m rambling now… 안녕히가세요, have a nice day 💕
Hey again : ) trust me my stuff is shipped from Hong Kong we are not that far lol but yeah we don't ship to Russia eversince. But thank you for the thoughts! Just you being here is enough ^^ And you and I both. I hope one day your dream came true! "Rambling" all you want, I am here all the time.

Lesson 3 Summary
Goodbye.
Goodbye when you are leaving and others are staying.
Goodbye when others are leaving and you are staying.
Etymology
안녕 = Peace/ Health/ Wellbeing
계세요 = Stay in peace. Comes from the verb “ 계시다 “ which means to be or to stay.
가세요 = Go in peace. Comes from the verb “가다” which means to go.
Note: If no one is staying, 안녕히가세요 is used.
Please note!
All of these lessons teach 존댓말, which is formal or honorific language. This is the type of formality that is safe to use with everyone. As far as levels of formality go, this is like a polite average, i.e. it is not informal or extremely formal, but a comfortable medium. Most words and phrases that are taught in these lessons will change slightly when used in a different formality, but this will be taught in a much later lesson!

Question unrelated to fics/ateez but since you’re in Korea I was wondering if you speak Korean? I’d love to visit in the future but honestly only have a very basic understanding of Korean and that makes me nervous to travel there so if you have any tips on like communicating I would love to hear them! (I hope this makes sense and isn’t weird to ask)
hi hi hi !! not a weird question at all lol !! sorry this got long af so im putting it under a cut LKJSFL;KSDJF
OKAY NOT TO SCARE YOU OBVIOUSLY BUT i would say that im like ... B1 level w korean hehe this is embarrassing af but i definitely thought that i was better than i am JLKFJSDLFKD getting here HUMBLED ME so fast ... like i normally watch kdramas w just korean subtitles and comprehend it well enough as long as the vocab isn't too obscure or specific and i can read ... alright ... like probably not a newspaper but the average like. fancafe announcement or whatever i can read ... BUT THE ISSUE COMES W LISTENING AND SPEAKING . without subtitles ... my ass is lost. like i feel like im only getting the gist of whats being said to me and not what's actually being said like . 75% of the time (and a lot of the time i have straight up no idea) . and when i DO fully understand what's being said it takes me a few seconds to process and by then the person talking assumes idk what's going on LJKSKDLF and i can speak ... pretty okay i think it just takes me a few seconds to put sentences together which obviously isnt natural speech at all and it makes having a convo pretty awkward/hard ... BUT LISTEN LISTEN LISTEN . this really only goes for like ... school related conversations ive had . basic interactions are SO easy tbh
SO LIKE THAT ALL BEING SAID . you really dont have to interact w korean people all that much if you're just traveling/visiting . like ... only when you're at a store or restaurant are you really speaking/listening and from what i've encountered in seoul most places/people are really nice and/or accommodating to foreigners !! like they'll be patient w you and try their best to explain something if you're not understanding (side note. i am NOT a partier [imagine that] so idk anything about clubs/bars lol but id assume its the same tbh) !! i was super super nervous about this at first bc like . obviously you dont want to look dumb . but ive encountered literally 0 rude people and its really not all that hard to communicate even if your korean isnt super amazing hehe hand gestures go a long way fr ! and if you can speak just a little bit it definitely goes a long way hehe
tips from someone thats lived here for 6 days:
1. at least know how to read hangul or you're really gonna be lost
2. at a store the cashier is gonna say like 5 or 6 things MAX to you in this exact order (1) hello [안녀하세요] (2) do you need a bag [포장이 필요하세요?] (3) how are you paying (and they wont ask if you have your card in your hand) (4) do you have a membership (only at like big chains lol and half the time they dont ask if you're outwardly foreign) [멤버십은 있으세요? or like 포인트를 적립하세요?] (5) do you want a receipt (6) thank you and goodbye [감사합니다 안녕히가세요] and like . 2/3rds of the time theyll just ask you in english if you want a bag or receipt . and if you have no clue what they're saying you can just say 아니요 to every question and it'll probably be fine JSKFJSLDFK
3. in a restaurant when the 이모님 looks expectantly at you hold up however many people are with you on your fingers and she'll hook you up and then feel free to just point at the menu to order or spice it up w the "[blank] [number of servings you want]개 주세요" and then they'll probably ask if you want a drink or tell you if the water & side dishes are self serve [반찬이고 물은 셀프입니다] ! if you have any dietary restrictions make sure you know how to ask if there's anything in the food lol like i dont eat pork so ill ask like [혹시 이갓에 돼지고기 들어가 있어요?] if im sus but most of the time itll say what meat you're getting when you order food lol but you can also say like [혹시 이것에 돼지고기 빼 줄 수 있을까요?] to ask them to take something out (LAKJSDFDLKSJ SORRY IDK HOW GOOD YOUR KOREAN IS SO JUST TO BREAK THAT DOWN YOU SAY LIKE "혹시 [food you're ordering]에 [thing you dont eat] 들어가 있어요?" if that makes sense KLAJLSDKFJF)
4. at a cafe or like fastfood restaurant the menu will typically be numbered and again you can just ask for the number ... and like one of my roommates is lactose intolerant so she asks if they have other milks sometimes just by going 무슨 우유가 있어요? and we dont know if thats the right way to ask but they know what we're trying to ask KJSFLKDJF
5. overall tip is to just ... not be nervous lol like yes i still vibrate when im interacting w someone in any context bc im so nervous theyll say something idk but ... its really not the end of the world if you dont get 100% of whats happening ! and like the milk thing like ... theyll get what you're trying to say most of the time ! and people are very nice ! and in seoul a lot of workers honestly speak basic english and/or will try their best to help you regardless of the language barrier
6. also the subway and buses all make announcements in korean and then in english so dw about that (also the kiosks where you can buy tmoney cards have an english option) (as do most kiosks here lol)
7. papago translator is a godsend
SO YEAH SORRY THIS WAS SO LONG WINDED IDK ALKSDJFKASDJFKL feel free to ask anything else lol i hope this was helpful and overall i highly recommend coming and i think you would definitely be fine even if you didnt speak any korean at all tbh :]
and also one more side note I am white which clearly impacts how people treat me here and I'm sure other foreigners might have different experiences but this has been mine !!

I really love sign language so I decided to look up a few different ways to sign Hello! There’s many many different sign languages out there! All these pictures are what it would look like to the viewer, so remember: Anything on the drawing’s left is your right! Facial expressions are important in every Sign Language, so for greetings, remember to smile!
Sorry if the Japanese and Chinese characters look weird, I haven’t started learning them so I’m sure my handwriting is a little wonky (more so than usual)
Chinese / 中国手语  (CSL/ZGS) : 你好 - If you know Chinese you know  你 means you and  好 means good. That’s why the sign for  你好 is first to point at the listener, then to give a thumbs up.
Korean Sign Language / 한국 수화 언어 (KSL) :안녕하세요/안녕히가세요/안녕히셰요- In Korean there’s different words for hello, goodbye if the listener is staying, and goodbye if the listener is leaving. However, in KSL it’s all the same! So if you learn this you know how to say bye in KSL as well! First you hold your left arm out in front of you, making a fist, and take your right hand and run it down your arm. Next make double fists and ‘rock them’ up and down. Bow as you bounce your fists
Spanish Sign Language /  Lengua de Signos Española (LSE) : Hola - Just a simple wave with your hand by your shoulder.
French Sign Language / Langue des Signes Française (LSF) : Bonjour - Open palm with your fingers straight but relaxed (so not necessarily all pushed up together). Put your hand up to your chin, and then pull it away.
German Sign Language /  Deutsche Gebärdensprache (DGS) : Hallo - You may have noticed it’s the same picture as LSE just moved and recolored. It’s the same thing, if anything your hand is maybe just a little bit higher than your shoulder.
American Sign Language (ASL): Hello -  Start with open palm, finger together and cross your thumb in front of your palm. Now take the hand, and start with your hand in front of your ear and extend it outward and away from your body.
Indo-Pakistani Sign Language (IPSL) : Hello - Very similar to the ASL sign except instead of your hand behind straight, form a 90 degree angle with your hand. Put it up by your eyebrow and then extend it out and away.
Japanese Sign Language / 日本手話  (JSL): こんにちわ -   Make two fists facing each other and stick up your index finger. Curl your index finger slightly. The sign represents two people bowing to each other!

2022

Korean A1/Beginner - Lesson #1 - February 28th 2018
Disclaimer: Everything that will be posted here is taken from my Korean Beginner’s class. If you see any mistakes, please let me know. Enjoy!
Our teacher started the first class asking us a few questions.
How do you say “Korean” in Korean? A: 한글 (han-geul).
Who created the Korean language? A: 세종대왕 (se-jong-dae-wang), which means The Great King Se Jong.
How many vowels and consonants are there in Korean? A: Vowels - 21 Consonants - 19
How do you say “South Korea” in Korean? A: 대한민국 (dae-han-min-gug), which means something like The Great Republic of Korea or 한국 (han-gug).
And how do you say “North Korea” in Korean? A: 북한 (buk-han).
After this, she showed us the right ways to write in Korean:
Tumblr media
C: Consonants            V: Vowels
You start writing from left to right, starting up and going downwards. You should use this order for reading as well.
On this day we learned 6 vowels and 4 consonants.
Vowels: 모음 (mo-eum)
Note: I am using the romanizations that you will most often see out there on the internet.
아 - a (sounds like the a in cactus)
어 - eo (sounds like the o in off)
오 - o (sounds like the o in word)
우 - u/oo (sounds like the oo in school)
으 - eu (sounds like the e in site)
이 - i/ee (sounds like i in list)
Attention! When there is no consonant sound before a vowel, that vowel must be preceded by the consonant  ㅇ which becomes silent. Ex.: 아니 (a-ni)
Consonants: 자음 (ja-eum)
ㅁ - m (souns like the m in mother)
ㄴ - n (sounds like the n in note)
ㄹ - l/r (if this consonant is at the end of the syllable and is followed by either a consonant or nothing at all, it sounds like l; if it is followed by a vowel, it sounds very similar to a soft r but not quite like it. The most similar sound I have heard in English is of the double dd when you wadda fast.)
ㅇ - silent/ng (when this consonant is at the beginning of a syllable, it is silent. If it comes at the end of the syllable, it sounds like the ng in anger)
Vocabulary
This vocab is very random and serves to practice some of the consonants and vowels we just learned.
모음 - vowels
자음 - consonants
아이 - child
아무 - no one
이마 - forehead
오이 - cucumber
어머 - expression of suprise
나 - I
누나 - older sister (for boys)
나무 - tree
너무 - a lot, too much
나라 - country
미니 - mini
미리 - before
라마 - llama
무리 - group of animals
어머니 - mother
우리 - we, us
오리 - duck
머리 - head
어느 나라 - which country
아우 - younger brother (it is rarely used nowadays, only some of the eldest use it)
대 - big, great
왕 - king
안녕하세요 - hello (formal)
안녕 - hi (informal)
안녕히가세요 - goodbye, go in peace (listener is leaving)
안녕히계세요 - goodbye, stay in peace (listener is staying)
Note: If you see any mistake, please let me know!
Thank you and see you soon!
