100 days of productivity 18/100
Had my very first work experience today at a dentist's and I did not want to leave even tho my back was practically breaking. I absolutely loved it! Yes I really almost passed out not 30mins of me being there but I didn't think others' blood would have that effect on me, still I'd love to come back. It was really interesting too, got to see how the cleanings done, an extraction, a few x-rays, 1st stage of a root canal! Plus the dentist and nurse I was shadowing were so so lovely and funny and great. They answered all my questions, sometimes talked me through and explained the procedures, encounters with patients, tools, uni application tips. It was truly an amazing experince.
Thing is that I haven't considered dentistry before and didn't think it would have appealed to me as much so I didn't take biology and I'd need it if I didn't want to study abroad and for an extra year (I really don't). I'll see what I can do and email the university if an AS could be accepted.
Anyone else been in this situation before? Realising you should've gone down a different path? (and listened to your parents when they were suggesting it at the start of the school year...) (help ;-;)

Studied a bit, finished my chemistry notes and have to start one's for physics. Will do its and maths' homework tomorrow. I started planning out a study timetable and it's both stressing me out and calming me. I have so much time but not enough. Either way I've really got to put more hours into this and people aren't joking when they say to start revising as soon as you start school, especially at A Levels.

Educational Theories Guiding Educational Experience Description of an education event experienced I am a dentist, and I have started a course on teaching dentistry. My experience with education was never a particularly encouraging one as my teacher was always absent. When I was at school, the teachers went on strike, and that left us with no attention from them. We had to do much of the studying alone, and all required research lay squarely on our shoulders in the absence of teachers for as long as they were striking. Whenever the teachers came around school, they applied a work to rule strategy and that was extremely devastating. Lecturers were never available for any extra consultation, and we had to take our learning as individual responsibilities instead of waiting for support or guidance from lecturers. Any difficulties, which we may have faced during the study never, had a chance in the lecturers mind. They only offered the basics of teaching and left us on our own. Many are occasions when we could depend on our own efforts and one day, we sat in a room with a book and had to teach ourselves. The teacher did not provide homework and clearly had no lesson plans. Teachers provided what they thought and felt was essential without any clear concern for our fate. The effect their actions had on our educational experience was extremely negative and, furthermore, as students, we had nothing to do with their reason for going on strike. It was an unusually unethical move for our teachers to leave us grappling with education in the absence of their guidance. Worse, more, even on occasions when they appeared in class, their interest in our performance remained questionable. This was because of their lack of guiding materials like lesson plans and assistive experiments through assignments. It affected me and made me promise myself never to be like him and always do my best for whoever is relying on me. When we could never have our teachers in class, learning took a new angle, as we had to find means of making up for the hours lost when our teachers went on strike. The interaction with fellow students became an experience, which has influences our educational lives. Teachers' performance influences the ability of students to improve their educational lives by giving them a safe environment for learning. Feelings about the event This event is something that has changed my view about education. I find it that it is essential to help students with the learning using the facilitation theory (Buchanan & Hyde, 2008). On most occasions, students need the presence of the lecturer to give them social support through learning. Through facilitative learning, the teacher uses the humanist approach whereby an educator facilitates the learning process. Our teachers overlooked this need by neglecting us and leaving us to struggle on our own. In the absence of our teachers, we had to rely on the social learning theories. That promoted our taking up of the learning process as personal responsibilities, after which, we helped each other with the required needs for our educational needs. We had to emulate the learning tactics of each other, and through group work, we managed to make up for the lectures lost during the period when our teachers were on strike (Booker, 2008). The social learning theory promotes the ability of learners to take up a combination of cognitive learning theories and observational learning theories into practice. There was serious absence of our teachers, but students were always present meaning we had the opportunity of learning from the influences of our classmates (Buchanan & Hyde, 2008). Those who proved interested in learning acted as motivators to those who had no skills of how to go about learning in the absence of the teachers. With time, all the students had learnt to emulate the proper study deeds of the other students through observation. This experience made me realize that education can be taken as a social development approach. As much as we did it in a desperate effort for making up for the absence of our teachers, it is still relevant to realize the effects, which group work, have on learning. Group work helped us into appreciating the efforts of each other in the classroom. Learning became a social effort, which every member collaboratively took part in with dedication. Teacher led education comes with many restrictions and rules for students to follow. When teachers are absent, and students must make up for their educational excellence, learning takes the angle of becoming a personal initiative (Buchanan & Hyde, 2008). The facilitative theory makes students overly dependent on teachers and in cases where teachers are absent as it was in our case, students begin understanding the basis of education from a different angle. Teacher led education requires that the teacher creates the environment of teaching students. This form of learning gives students a comfortable means of considering new ideas without any emotional stress concerning external influence. Should a teacher be absent, the student always has to face all challenges in a solitary way and that may cause serious psychological effects on the learning of the students (Baker, 2010). It reduces the preparedness of the learner as the fear of facing new aspects individually present themselves. Facilitative learning enhances the natural eagerness that students have for learning without the imposition of any threats. The teacher, therefore, stands in to bridge the gap of the need for learning by giving the student easy means for grasping concepts. In situations where students are absent, the eagerness to learn may drop drastically, as students grapple with the confusion of lack of guidance (Buchanan & Hyde, 2008). When the teachers came to class in our case, it was evident that they had no working plans and they never even provided homework. It just took the confidence that we could have on them, and that compromised their delivery of education to us whenever they appeared. This is typical with any learning situation, because, students learning through the facilitative theory guidelines base all their learning on the expertise of the teacher. With the lack of lesson plans, there exists a lack of preparedness on the teacher, and that can cause massive disconnection in the learning processes (Baker, 2010). A positive thing that learning on our own accord brought to us is the development of the skill of research. This is contrary to the fact that facilitative theory encourages the submission to the directions of a lecturer. It is always challenging to accept the concepts, which teachers introduce into learning on some occasions. However, when a personalized learning process becomes the option for students, the student does not have any conflicting information to deal with while learning. The student does personal research and assimilates the findings, which produces a personal understanding of the concepts. It may be hard to take up such learning, and concepts may be confusing at some points, but this all helps the student to develop critical thinking (Baker, 2010). Kolbs model promotes learning through experiments that produce experiences in the learning process. These experiments are proof of concrete solutions and applications, which a learning process brings about. It takes the convincing of students to have them in concurrence with the facts that a lecturer gives (Buchanan & Hyde, 2008). With the absence of teachers in a learning process, such experiments are invalid, and that leaves students without any concrete experience to base their learning. This was the case with our learning, which lacked assignments from teachers, who were never present to provide challenging aspects for observation of results. That means that there was no conceptualization of results from any experiments and students have to create personal assumptions (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). Application of educational theories on learning situations The learning theories that guide education can be assimilated, into education, to promote a smooth running of the learning process (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). Research, into the influences of teacher presence on the performance of students, shows positivity in learning and improvement of student performances. Educational delivery in situations of facilitative models depends on the presence of the teacher to give students the motivation necessary for their excellence. The involvement of teachers in the teaching process shows their passion on the students' education and leads to improvement of the students' performance. Taking on our situation when teachers had no lesson plans and gave no assignments, it showed that they lacked the passion for teaching (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). It would be extremely motivating for students if their teachers showed passion when teaching them. The passion, which teachers use to give assignments, show students that it is important, to understand the concepts taught to them, and they prove that by performing effectively in assignments given by the teachers (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). Student performance, therefore, need the passionate involvement of teachers because it is the promoter of enthusiasm in learning. The presence of teachers in class creates an emotional connection between students and teachers. It is, therefore, vital that teachers save their students from psychological strain caused by the absence from lecturers. Situations like strikes keep teachers away from teaching their students who are in need of their guidance, and that leaves the students in remote conditions, which do not permit them to have an evaluator assessing their performance and encouraging them forward (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). As teachers absence increases, perceived psychological distance increases because of lack of interaction. Teachers must develop an interest in the learning of their students by giving them the due attention, which they deserve. However, in the absence of teachers, in the learning process, teacher student interaction is overtaken by student-student interaction as it happened in our case. Student content interaction is also a means of learning, which can help students in forging forward in their learning without necessarily waiting on their teachers (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). Students can be trained on modes of interacting with their peers through discussions, as that promotes learning and discoveries from a relatively equal level of understanding. Students' interaction with content is also beneficial to the learning process, as students take their personal time to research and assimilate their findings; these scenarios can help students into facing teacher absence in class in a more mature way. It reduces the effects of psychological distance caused by the absence of teachers during lessons. Incorporation of passion in pedagogy is harnessed by rationale and cognition, which promotes friendship between the teacher and student. This aspect also promotes the same social aspect between students creating harmony during studies. When passion is incorporated into a learning process, friendship develops promoting the advancement towards the achievement of educational excellence as a shared purpose (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). To incorporate passion into earning, it would take the promotion of teacher involvement in the teaching process. This requires the motivation of teachers, whereby, their needs are handled amicably before any problems they may be facing get out of hand. Motivated teachers transfer the positive view of learning into the education process making their students as motivated to learning as they are to teaching. Normative theories are a provision of goals, standards and norms of education. These must be observed by teachers when carrying out their duties, for students to benefit from learning. Lesson plans; make teaching approachable as they guide the teacher on the aspects of learning to promote at any given time. In addition, lesson plans give teachers a glimpse of the expected outcomes for students they teach through the plans of teaching they have. Consequently, changing the kind of absence that we suffered during my education years demand that in the improvement of teacher student interaction. Teachers ought to be present in class for effective guidance of their students through the learning process. Any situations, which may lead to the absenteeism of teachers from class, require amicably and timely handling, so that no interference occurs to students' while learning (Carbonneau, Vallerand, Fernet & Guay, 2008). By doing this, the effects of psychological absenteeism on students, reduce and they get the chance of interacting with their teachers. Teachers, therefore, must understand their physical importance in the lives of students, who rely on them for their academic excellence. By changing this aspect about teacher presence in the classroom, the interaction between teachers and students would ensure positive returns on performance. Tackling of educational problems caused by scenarios like those that I had to bear with during my school days, also require that teachers remain as ethically as possible in the provision of their duties. This is guided through normative theories, which prescribe standards, norms and values of practice for education. Teachers, therefore, should avoid instances like strikes as they compromise their service delivery in an ethical manner. The absenteeism cases of teachers in schools may leave the students, in the struggle for making their learning a tedious process (Annand, 2011). Teacher presence helps in a better understanding of any special needs, which students may have. The teacher finds it easy understanding the needs their students have, and then they help the students to develop means of performing better. Developments in pedagogy require incorporation of emotional intelligence, and that is possible if the students require receive attention from their teachers. Teachers in turn, must understand the problems, which students may have, while teaching and that gives the students a chance of having their study experiences improved. Conclusion The experiences that students have in their educational lives affect their performance educationally. Improvement in the educational system also requires the improvement if the social aspect between teachers and students (Annand, 2011). The social aspect of learning missed in the case presented in this study led to negative results towards the educational system. The absence of teachers gave the students no chance for interacting with their teachers, and that is very detrimental to the educational performance of students. There are educational theories, which guide educators in their provision of quality education to students. Through the research, it came out that there is a need for psychological closeness with students. That would encourage students to have an interactive session with their teachers, promoting their learning and educational achievements (Buchanan & Hyde, 2008). The normative educational theories would be used to guide the behavior of teachers in their service provision. Teachers must know their ethical requirements, so they can give the best to their students. By that, teachers can ensure that they meet all standards of teaching students. Things like lesson plans and assignments become easy for them to give to their students the best during educational service provision. The social learning theory also guides the students in means of assimilating cognitive aspects into their learning (Buchanan & Hyde, 2008). When students cannot manage to find information through their teachers, group work can always be used to give them the chance of performing better in their studies (Baker, 2010). Education becomes a sensitive field that teachers must be careful when handling always. oh dear i'm sorry to hear that anon. i also had to wear braces throughout high school and the process was certainly not my favourite thing in the world. but the good news is that dentistry has come a long way since i was in school and there's also things like invisalign that could maybe be an option for you!
you'll be alright, and even if it doesn't feel like it right now future you will probably be glad you got them. trust me, fixing your teeth now if you need to is way easier than later

Jason knew it was coming and yet, sitting beside Bruce in a fancy orthodontics office being told that he was going to need braces still hits him like a truck.
"-but with your kind of money, Mr Wayne, we can make them almost invisible-"
"No," Jason says, the word of of his mouth before he's even full realized what he's saying. The orthodontist and Bruce both look at him curiously. "I don't want some fancy invisible braces. Give me the regular ones that everyone gets."
The orthodontist looks bewildered at Bruce, seemingly hoping that Bruce will insist on whatever fancy system they peddle to all the rich kids but Bruce just shrugs and that's that.
Monday morning two weeks later sees Jason walking into Gotham Academy with a newly affixed mouth full of metal.
"Hey Jay!" Tim, who was technically a younger than Jason but shared two AP classes with him, meets him at his locker. He's a scrappy little nerd who's also the official photographer for the yearbook committee and he could honestly hang out with anyone he wants. Somehow he keeps coming back to hang out with Jason. "I've got your homework from Friday for you."
"Thanks Timmy." Jason can't help but smile as he takes the offered binder from Tim.
"Oh! You got red for your braces?"
"Uh, yeah," Jason says, feeling a little sheepish as Tim starts leaning closer trying to get another look, "red's my favourite colour."
"Hey, mine too," Tim says with a smile, "maybe I should get red ones too, then we can match!"
"Wait, you need braces?" Jason can't imagine that. Tim's smile has always seemed perfect to him.
"Oh, yeah, narrow mouth or whatever. I had a bunch of adult teeth removed a long time ago and now they wanna make sure everything fits in right. My parents want to get those fancy invisible ones but I'll just tell them no," Tim says dismissively, as if A: the braces themselves were no big deal and B: that being able to match with Jason was the most important part.
Jason's face feels like it must be matching the rubber bands on his braces as Tim talks, seemingly oblivious to Jason's sudden fluster.
The bell rings, saving Jason from opening his mouth and saying something stupid.

For instance, “to take a test” has so many regionalisms it’s difficult to list them all. In Mexico you’re probably going to hear presentar un examen. Some places will say hacer un examen, some even put it as el maestro / la maestra pone un examen a los estudiantes.
The default way of saying “to take a test” is dar un examen which is literally “to give an exam”, because you hand a test in to your teacher. Along the same lines, the default way a teacher “gives a test” is tomar un examen because they “take” the tests that the students turn in. For that reason, dar un examen is often translated as “to sit for an exam” to help the meaning come across more easily.

Winter had to be Eddie's least favorite season. It was too cold to enjoy anything, too icy to go anywhere, and unless your idea of a fun holiday activity involved staying inside, it probably sucked.
Eddie thought himself rational for hating the coldest time of the year, but apparently, that wasn't a universal opinion. There were people who actually liked winter, said people being Richie Tozier.
Eddie couldn't understand what Richie liked about it. He never wore enough layers in the winter so he always caught a cold, he wasn't athletic so it's not like skiing or skating were on his radar, and he didn't even like spending Christmas with his family. In fact, that's the only thing about winter that him and Eddie had in common.
The rest of the losers enjoyed getting to spend the holidays with their families, which baffled the both of them. Richie had always hated every holiday he had to spend with his family, as they seemed to just use it as an opportunity to hound him about his future. Wentworth wanted him to go into dentistry just like him, but Richie would eat enough candy to make his teeth fall out if he could. They weren’t supportive of his pursuits in comedy, so every conversation turned into a battle.
Eddie didn't mind his extended family, but it was his mother that made the holidays (and every other day, really) insufferable. She got worse around Christmas, so Eddie had learned it was best to distance himself as much as he could the month leading up to it, and especially the night of. He'd feel guilty if she didn't have the rest of the family to keep her company.
This year, they’d decided they’d had enough. They’d both gone out of state for college, so they had an easy lie to fallback on. They couldn’t get home for Christmas that year because they had too much homework, or their jobs wouldn’t allow them time off. Neither were true, but they were believable enough to not receive any follow-up questions.
The tricky part, however, was figuring out how to still visit Derry without their parents finding out.
Since all the Losers came home for Christmas, it was one of the only opportunities they had to all be together. Richie and Eddie weren’t about to miss out on the chance to see their friends, they just had to figure out how to stay out of sight for the week they were there.
Their colleges had happened to be in the same town, so they still saw a lot of one another. It was easy for Richie to make the half hour drive to pick up Eddie, and then drive them both to the airport.
The flight was short, but when they landed back in Derry, Eddie already felt jetlagged. Was it not for their friends, Eddie would never willingly set foot back in Derry ever again, and it was clear that Richie felt the same way.
The hotel they’d chosen was a cheap little place located on the outskirts of town. Since they couldn’t risk their parents finding out they were actually in Derry, it had been easy to pick a place to stay based on distance. Eddie had been a little worried about the cleanliness of the place, but for how inexpensive it was, it had surprisingly great reviews on Yelp.
The drive gave them time to destress, the heaviness of Derry lifting as they got adjusted to being back. It helped that they were together, easily falling into their usual banter and lightening the mood. If Eddie closed his eyes, he could pretend they were lounging around in his apartment the way they do every Friday night, pizza boxes littered across his kitchen counter and their bellies full of cheap wine.
They pulled their rented car into the parking lot and grabbed their bags from the back seat before heading inside, now all giggles and giddiness. Richie went straight to the check-in desk while Eddie took his time to look around, assessing the place. It was kitschy in every sense of the word, they even had a copy of that painting of dogs playing poker up on the wall, but Eddie kind of loved it.
He moseyed on up to the desk, looping his arm through Richie’s. He was greeted with a warm smile from the desk attendant as she handed them both their own small plastic card.
“All right, you’re all set!” She said cheerily. “Here are your room keys, and if there are any issues don’t hesitate to call us.”
“Hell yeah.” Richie cheered as he looked down at the keycard in his hand.
Eddie rolled his eyes and thanked the attendant, pulling more politeness out of his pinky than Richie seemed to have in his entire body. He ushered Richie along, but was stopped abruptly when Richie stiffened his body, making Eddie bump into him.
“Ow, Richie-” Eddie began to complain, but he cut himself off when he followed Richie’s gaze. Above their heads hung a piece of mistletoe.
“Oh! You noticed the mistletoe!” The woman sang out from behind them. “We have a little promotion going on for couples right now. If you kiss under the mistletoe and let us post a picture to our website, you receive a free Christmas cheesecake from room service.”
Richie huffed a laugh. “Sounds creepy.”
“Sounds wonderful.” Eddie spoke above him, hoping his voice cancelled out Richie’s. “But we’re not a couple.” He gestured between himself and Richie awkwardly, hoping the conversation would end there. Of course, it didn’t.
“I’m so sorry, I just assumed… you got a room with one bed, and you just seem…” Her eyes flicked down to where their arms were linked. “My apologies.”
“No problemo, Debra.” Richie responded, and Eddie could see the discomfort blooming within the poor desk clerk. He could relate.
“Right, well… if you change your minds.” Debra, which Eddie now noticed was written on her nametag, excused herself, and Richie and Eddie did the same, but not before Eddie unhooked their arms.
Eddie was still buzzing with the nerves from such an awkward encounter when they arrived at their room. Neither of them had said a word the whole elevator ride, and the silence was beginning to feel stifling.
“Maybe we should have gotten two beds.” Eddie thought aloud as he unlocked the door and stepped inside.
“Why, you afraid the single bed is going to force us into marriage? Maybe Debra has some hidden magical powers we don’t know about.” Richie gasped, letting his bag drop to the floor inside the room. “Maybe we’re already dating and we don’t even know it!”
“Shut the fuck up, Richie.” Eddie shot back, despite the small smile playing across his lips. He let his own bag drop beside Richie’s and wandered further into the room.
It was small, holding not much more than the essentials, but it felt cozy. Eddie sat on the edge of the mattress and picked up the remote for the TV, flicking it on and immediately beginning to look through the movies they could order.
The bed jostled as Richie threw himself on to it behind Eddie, star-fishing his whole body to take up as much room as possible.
“This is already way better than Christmas with my parents.” Richie spoke up to the ceiling.
“We haven’t even done anything yet.” Eddie snorted, picking a movie and ordering it right away. He knew The Grinch was Richie’s favorite, he didn’t even have to ask.
“Yeah, but I’m with you.” Richie admitted aloud. The response was unexpected, as was the way Eddie’s body reacted with a thrum of delight. He shook it off, turning around and crawling his way up the bed. He had to climb over Richie, but he managed to settle down against the headrest.
“Wanna check what’s in the mini-fridge?” Eddie asked, nudging Richie’s thigh.
“Are you kidding me? They charge you a million dollars if you so much as think about eating any of their food. I stocked up at the airport.”
Richie launched himself off the bed and grabbed his bag, emptying its contents on the floor excitedly. Sure enough, there were bags of chips and bars of chocolate and even Eddie’s favorite brand of jellybeans. Richie instinctively grabbed them and threw them Eddie’s way.
“See? I’ve got you.” Richie grinned his way.
“You know, normally I’d complain about not having a real dinner, but fuck it.” Eddie ripped his bag of jellybeans open and shook a handful into his mouth right away, smiling with his puffed-up cheeks as he chewed.
“I like this Eddie, where has he been all my life?” Richie rejoined him on the bed, a giant bag of Lays chips in his grasp.
“Sorry for trying to keep you alive.” Eddie said sarcastically around a mouthful.
“Overrated.”
Eddie elbowed Richie gently and they both laughed, their hearts full at the freedom they felt at being apart from their families and together with each other.
They indulged in their snacks until their stomachs were bloated and they were halfway through their movie. Silence had fallen naturally as they’d diverted their attention to the screen, but they’d seen this movie so many times that Eddie’s mind started to drift.
“What do you think she meant when she said we seemed… whatever she was gonna say?”
“Who?” Richie didn’t look away from the screen.
“Debra.”
“What about Debra?”
“Richie…” Anxiety was beginning to creep into Eddie’s voice, and Richie knew the sound of it well enough to know when it was time to pay attention.
“Sorry Eds, what about her?” Richie had turned away from the tv now, his eyes steady on Eddie.
“Just… what do you think she meant by… that we seemed…” He trailed off the same way Debra had.
“I don’t know, Eddie. Do you want me to call her and ask?” Richie teased.
“No, I just… I don’t know.”
“That isn’t the first time someone’s thought we were dating, Eds.”
“Wait, what?” Eddie’s heart began to speed up.
“Remember in high school how Bowers and his gang were convinced we were secretly closeted homos for one another?”
Eddie laughed, calming down a little. “I mean, they were half right.”
“And then the time at Mike’s party when that guy said we were a cute couple.”
“Oh yeah… I forgot about that.”
“There’s been at least three situations where I’ve asked for someone’s number and they were surprised because they thought we were dating.”
“Wait… really?”
Richie nodded, and Eddie wondered if his cheeks were always that pink or if he was blushing a bit.
“Well, I don’t get it.” Eddie huffed stubbornly; his own feelings too complicated for him to dissect. He snuggled back down into his position, which he realized belatedly was cuddled up into Richie.
“You don’t?” Richie teased, and Eddie could feel his smile from where he rested his head atop Eddie’s own. “I do.” He added quietly, and Eddie thought he could hear Richie’s heart beating just a little bit faster.
They watched the rest of the movie in silence, but this time it was strained. Eddie could feel something palpable in the air, but he couldn’t make out what it was. He was hyper-aware of Richie’s every move, starting to notice the things they did that he’d never noticed before. Like the way Richie played with Eddie’s hair absently, or how Eddie seeked out the warmth of Richie’s arms around him. The realization made him feel panicked, but not in the way he was used to. He didn’t feel the need for his inhaler, or the old placebos his mom used to make him take. He needed something else, some sort of sense of safety he didn’t have just yet.
“I need to pee.” Eddie exclaimed suddenly, shooting up from his spot on the bed and excusing himself in a rush before Richie was even able to say anything.
As the door shut behind him, Eddie let out a breath he hadn’t known he’d been holding. He turned to his reflection and stared at the sight of someone obviously frazzled.
Okay, so maybe the crush Eddie had had on Richie for the last five years hadn’t gone away while he’d been at college like he’d hoped it would. And maybe he was still obvious enough about his feelings for everyone and their grandma to pick up on it. But Richie didn’t seem upset by it, and honestly, though it was probably misguided, Eddie felt a little hope at that.
Maybe it was time to rip off the bandaid, and if it went horribly wrong, at least he could go into the new year with one less thing weighing over him.
Eddie swallowed down his nerves and spoke in a low tone, staring himself down in the mirror.
“You’re gonna go tell Richie how you feel. You’ve been through way worse things than admitting your feelings for your best friend, it’s gonna be fine. You can do this.”
Even though Eddie felt cheesy saying these things out loud, it did instill him with a false sense of confidence that he would ride until he no longer could.
But when Eddie re-emerged from the bathroom, that newfound confidence steeled within him, he was stopped in his tracks before he could even cross the room.
"What's that for?" Eddie asked, eyeing the way Richie's phone had been propped up precariously on top of the headboard. There was something on the screen but Eddie couldn't make it out yet. As he approached with apprehensive steps, the colors on the screen finally morphed into something familiar.
"Why is there a picture of mistletoe on your phone?" Eddie asked hesitantly, ignoring the way his heart was beating in his throat. If this was some sort of joke, Eddie was going to melt into a puddle of rage and mortification in about two seconds.
"I want a do over." Richie stated matter-of-factly.
"A... do over..."
"Yeah, I want my shot at that free cheesecake." Richie joked, though Eddie could tell he was nervous.
“Oh.” Was all Eddie could say, his cheeks blooming red.
“So… you gonna get over here or should I prepare for my second rejection of the day?” Richie’s voice was still attempting humor, but Eddie knew he was feeling all the same emotions he was. Anticipation, excitement, a little bit of fear.
Eddie resumed his position on the bed, his body angled towards Richie’s, and gave him a gentle smile.
“First of all, I didn’t reject you earlier. I just didn’t want Debra as a witness to our first kiss, and definitely not all of the internet.”
“Understandable.” Richie nodded, his throat bobbing as he swallowed nervously.
“Secondly…” Eddie took a deep breath, mustering up all his bravery as he leaned in and closed the distance between them.
The kiss was gentle and soft, a bit hesitant. It wasn’t much more than a graze, the type of kiss you might have in middle school, innocent and naïve. Eddie pulled back slightly, trying to gauge Richie’s reaction, and was met with the most love-struck expression he’d ever seen. It made his heart lurch just to know it was directed at him.
“Was that okay?” Eddie asked, his voice wavering.
“Perfect.” Richie answered. He brought a tentative hand up to Eddie’s cheek, cupping it for a moment and then letting it slide back around his neck, fingers weaving into Eddie’s hair. They were still close enough to be sharing breath, but that was cut short when Richie moved back in for another kiss.
This time it was stronger, more sure of itself. Richie locked their lips together like he’d done it a thousand times before, parting his slightly and teasing a tongue across Eddie’s lower lip. It sent a jolt of excitement up Eddie’s spine, and he arched into the kiss further. They stayed like that for a moment, lips exploring one another, before a shrill sound suddenly interrupted them.
Eddie looked around the room in a daze, too distracted to be able to place the sound. Thankfully Richie was already moving towards the phone.
“Hello? ... Oh yes, hi! … Oh you don’t have to do that, honestly. … Are you sure? … Well have I got news for you, Debra.”
Eddie’s ears perked up at the familiar name and he shot Richie a questioning look.
“We did! … Yes, I think we did earn it.” Richie looked to Eddie and shot him a wink, only furthering his confusion.
“Alright, thank you so much Deb, you rock.”
As Richie hung up, Eddie was practically clamoring for an explanation.
“What’s going on?”
“Turns out we’re getting that cheesecake after all. The kitchen’s about to close and they had an extra one leftover, plus Debra felt bad that she’d embarrassed us earlier, so we get a consolation cake.”
Eddie stared at Richie for a moment before he bursted into laughter, tackling Richie over.
“We earned it, Richie? Really?” Eddie teased, play fighting with Richie as he tried to roll Eddie over.

hiii i’ve been thinking about fret’s older sister a lot. & since she’s a big part of fret’s life i’ll put some info on her here. so without further ado here’s saori furesawa. pictured both in & out of work attire.

Luna plays with Hermione's hair when she stims and needs concentration
When they first started studying together, Hermione quickly realised that Luna needed something to fiddle with in order to focus. There was something about who she was that made her completely unable to just sit still. Hermione, of course, could not stand this and immediately focused her attention on finding something quiet for Luna to play with so that they could study in peace.
From a young age, Hermione’s mother would braid her hair whilst she did her homework, an activity that was mutually de-stressing from a long, focused day at their dentistry office and private school, respectively. Remembering this and knowing that she’d still be able to focus, she gave Luna permission to sit behind her and play with her hair whilst they read together, to help her concentrate.
This went down like a charm. They would sit together and study in the Gryffindor common room – where strictly speaking Luna shouldn’t be allowed, but nobody cared because she was such a delight to have around – and study silently in front of the simmering fireplace. Hermione sometimes like to lie down on her front on the carpet with her parchment in front of her to work, so Luna would sit down beside her and run her fingers through her hair every day. This arrangement also had the unintended side effect of Luna learning new and interesting ways to tie up her own hair after years of mostly letting it flow down her back and get knotted throughout the day.
She tried every new hairstyle she could think of on Hermione – braids, ponytails, pigtails, space buns: if you can think of it, they had discovered it together. Most of them ended up looking horrible, but that was more because of Hermione’s sensibilities rather than Luna’s craftsmanship, which ended up being quite impressive after a while; she was always focused and gentle. This settled them into a routine for a while, and it would mean Luna would often blast through her work with a tight focus in order to finish quickly and have both hands free to play with Hermione’s hair, and even led to her grades improving.
That is, until exam season. Hermione tried and tried and tried and tried to focus but the anxiety was killing her and she just couldn’t manage on her own. Something was just fundamentally wrong, and she wasn’t able to work with the focus she did in the years before and she couldn’t understand why.
It hit her like a tonne of bricks one day: around this time of the year, she would always be tugging at her own hair to destress, but now she couldn’t: Luna was doing that instead. Not wanting to tell Luna and risk her feeling bad, Hermione secretly tried any alternative she could think of: chewing gum, stroking Crookshanks, biting the ends of the muggle pens and pencils she brought every year in case of an emergency (“You never know when you need to take notes!”) but nothing worked. She was stumped.
Luna wasn’t always the most perceptive girl when it came to other people’s emotions, but it was hard not to notice when Hermione was stressed about something, so she asked her what was bothering her when they were studying (or failing to) one day. Hermione immediately came clean and spilled out about how she was no longer able to focus but she didn’t want to risk Luna’s ability to study, especially at exam season, and that they had become so synchronized to each other’s study schedules that working privately was no longer an option – not that either girl wanted to.
“I have an idea,” Luna gently told Hermione after thinking for a moment. She had them switch places, Luna lying down to work on the ground, with Hermione sat cross-legged next to her. Hermione didn’t understand how this would help either of them at all, and so she sighed in frustration and tried to attack that paragraph she was stuck on for the fiftieth time.
But just like that, Hermione realised she was suddenly able to work again. In fact, she had been for an entire hour! She blasted through the whole book, cover to cover; copied all her notes up and down and across; created magical flashcards that would test her autonomously; learned and relearned and rerelearned the names of medieval wizards and witches and warlocks – she worked more consistently than she ever had before. It wasn’t until she was finished that she realised how: she had been running her free hand through Luna’s silky blonde hair the whole time without even noticing. She looked down at her. Luna was still working; it seemed as if the sensation of having Hermione’s fingers drift through her hair had been enough to placate her fidgets as well. Hermione smiled to herself, and continued to play with Luna’s hair long after they both finished studying.
From then on, neither of them had any problems studying ever again.

100 days of productivity 11/100
Quick one before I get into the shower. Did an hour of maths revision and I started the homework but I'll continue to work on it tomorrow morning. I also finished all my physics notes (finally! 🥹)
My evening turned a bit productive because I ranted to my friend (it was good for the both of us) and now I'm feeling much better and she dropped an amazing quote in the middle of that I want to share with youse:

I'm didn't really follow my time blocked schedule today and I think it's good, it can help you be really productive but I think I'll be using it more as a guide than a proper schedule. Oh and we got talked to a bit more in school about in-person work experience, haven't gotten an email back yet from a company, but my dad got talking to his dentist today so I think I'll be going into there (not technically formal work xp) for the day. (Also dentistry does require biology as an ALevel which I don't do and the fight is back from when I first picked my subjects almost a year ago.. oh well, I might not like it anyways or do it in my 40s if I really still want to 🙃)

He bounces around the room, throwing his things here and there, discarding his t-shirt on the floor, going to his drawer, picking out a new shirt, pulling it on and apparently, deciding he’s made a grave error. His nose scrunches up and he sniffs his armpit. That t-shirt ends up on the floor as well but Link doesn’t bother to get another one. Instead he marches to their cupboard and takes out a box of cereal. All the while he’s gushing about the professor and the class. Rhett is irritated beyond belief.
“What have you been up to today?” Link asks as he sinks on the couch and pours himself a huge bowl of Cinnamon Toast Crunch. Rhett just crosses his arms across his chest and growls. Link’s gaze immediately snaps to him.
“What’s wrong?”
“Nothing,” Rhett mutters and feels stupid as the word slips out. Obviously Link can see something is bothering him. So, he continues: “Everything.”
“Tell me,” Link orders mouth full of Crunch. Rhett closes his eyes and tries to drone out the sounds that seem to penetrate his soul.
“Just…I don’t know. It’s all stupid stuff. Practice sucked today and I managed to fall on my face in the cafeteria. And I got a C on that paper. I worked so hard on it but apparently it was uninspired and redundant.”
“Aww, man, I’m sorry. Sounds like one of those days. Tomorrow will be better. Besides, everyone knows Professor Miller is a hard-ass. C from him is basically an A.”
Rhett huffs, annoyed, because he knows Link is right. But he had been so proud of what he’d written and certain he’d get at least a B.
“Also, Claire cancelled our date. She claimed she wanted to concentrate on her studies. And I mean fine, that’s okay. But then I saw her kissing a guy on the courtyard so…she’s either studying dentistry now and was doing some intense homework or she was just lying to my face,” Rhett mumbles.
Honestly, the Claire thing stings way more than any of the other stuff. He’d gotten a bit ahead of himself with Claire, imagining all kinds of futures together after their first few dates. Seeing her with the guy had been like a gut punch.
“Shit, that sucks,” Link says sympathetically. He’s straightened his back and abandoned the rest of his cereal to slowly soften. He is looking at Rhett with an expression Rhett can’t read. His eyes are lit up - he almost looks excited - but he’s gnawing on his bottom lip and wiggling his leg anxiously.
“What?” Rhett asks with too much sharpness in his voice. He feels bad; it isn’t Link’s fault he’s having a bad day. But Link doesn’t seem to either mind or notice. He gets up and creeps to Rhett’s desk next to their bunk bed. Link’s eyes wander over the desk and he picks up a pencil, twirls it between his fingers a bit before putting it down and picking up a text book. Rhett frowns as he looks at Link twiddling with his things. Just as he is about to ask what Link is doing, Link mutters, without looking at Rhett.
“I could help you.”
“With what?” Rhett asks confused. The paper is already done and it isn’t like Link can help him with practice. Sometimes you just have bad days, it’s normal. And Link definitely can’t help with Claire. After watching her play tonsil tennis with a guy with a ponytail Rhett doesn’t even want her back anymore.
“I could help you feel better…help you relax,” Link whispers, still staring at the text book. A faint blush has crept on his cheeks. Rhett’s own cheeks immediately heat up and suddenly, he feels parched.
“You mean…?” Rhett asks with a hoarse voice.
“Yeah.”
Rhett feels a bit faint. A memory after memory resurfaces in his mind and he feels like hiding his crotch under a pillow. But that would be too obvious. He tries to appear nonchalant as he says:

Zoe’s life has never been anything out of the ordinary. Nothing special. She had plenty of friends in high school. Did cheerleading, theatre. Any sort of sociable after school activity. That sort of attitude had her dabbling in the underage drug and alcohol culture instead of studying, or trying especially hard at her homework.
She didn’t do the best when it came to finals. Didn’t get the scores she needed, not even close, to get into any reputable college. She blamed it on not being able to focus on her schoolwork, but the issues were a lot more underlying than that. She wasn’t exactly the brightest bulb. Wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed.
This was especially obvious in comparison with her sisters: her oldest sister became a meteorologist, while the younger one became a midwife. They were both wildly successful in their careers, with love, with their families. And at such a young age, too. Zoe was stuck in the middle, stuck doing a one year program at a community college to become a dental assistant. It didn’t take her long to figure out that her dream of becoming a dentist would never be a reality.
Zoe had decided on doing dentistry when she was in elementary school. Unlike most kids, she loved going to the dentist. During this time, she had a couple of relationships. One was incredibly long-term: from twenty-four-years old to twenty-eight. It only ended recently, when Zoe had decided she’d had enough of him making her feel stupid. It was a skewed power dynamic between them. He was studying to be an electrical engineer, and constantly held that intelligence over her head. While Zoe is glad it’s over now, she’s also thankful for the relationship. If it weren’t for him, she wouldn’t be reconsidering going back to school and fulfilling her lifelong dream of being a dentist. Not an assistant, but a dentist.

Zoe is the first to suggest karaoke, but never does it sober. Lucky she still loves to party! She’s a lightweight drinker, but still drinks a lot. Probably an unhealthy amount, but she doesn’t have that much self-awareness to realise that.
She was over the moon when she got braces at twelve-years-old.
Her uncle got his teeth fixed when she was a kid, and she saw how much it changed his life. How much it helped his confidence and his happiness. When people ask her, she attributes this as one of the things that sparked her desire to become a dentist.
