The Aesthetics of Spanish Superlatives
Elevating Descriptive Language The Spanish language, rich in nuance and expressive potential, offers various ways to emphasize and elevate qualities to their utmost degree. One particularly intriguing aspect is the use of superlative forms, which allow speakers to highlight extremes and make comparisons with flair. Whether you’re praising the finest wine or lamenting the dullest book, mastering…

Languages Shape Worlds — And the People in Them
“Language is a road map of a culture.” – Rita Mae Brown
When creating fictional worlds, don’t stop at borders—let language do the heavy lifting. Dialects, vocabulary, accents, and even how characters switch between tongues can reveal class, power, intimacy, and conflict.
Here’s how to use language as a storytelling tool:
1. Create Language Layers: Dialect ≠ Language
Different regions or social classes in your world should speak differently, even if it’s the same “official” language.
Example:
In your fantasy kingdom:
Nobles say: “I shall accompany you to the citadel.”
Soldiers say: “I’ll head with you to the keep.”
Farmers say: “Reckon I’ll come with, if yer goin’ to the tower.”
Same meaning, entirely different texture. Ask:
• Who has access to formal education?
• Who clings to older versions of the language?
• Who uses borrowed words from other cultures?
2. Portray Multilingual Conversations Without Confusing the Reader
You don’t need to write entire dialogue in your constructed language. Instead:
Option A: Tag and Translate
“Aqele asaar,” she whispered. Peace upon your house.
This works well when you want to signal cultural depth without overwhelming the reader. Use sparingly for ritual phrases, swears, or proverbs.
Option B: Inferred Meaning via Context
He said something in Old Avelan—sharp and soft like a blade drawn from silk. Whatever it meant, it made her flinch.
The vibe matters more than the word-for-word meaning. Use body language, tone, and character reactions to fill in the blanks.
Option C: In-World Translation
Let the characters do the work:
“He just called me a—what, a cabbage?”
“Not quite. ‘Rot-bellied cabbage-eater.’ It’s an insult where he’s from.”
This adds humor, personality, and builds cultural tension or camaraderie.
3. Think About Code-Switching
When do your characters switch languages? It can signal:
Power: A queen who speaks the enemy’s tongue in negotiations to unsettle them.
Intimacy: Two lovers whispering in their mother tongue.
Alienation: A scholar stuck using broken trade-speech with villagers.
Defiance: A rebel refusing to speak the colonizer’s language.
Let language switching mean something.
4. Explore Attitudes Toward Language
What do people in your world believe about languages?
Is one language considered sacred?
Is another viewed as “dirty,” “low,” or “dangerous”?
Are certain dialects banned?
Is writing restricted to elites?
Is there an ancient, dead language used only in prophecy or magic?
Example:
In your desert empire, magic spells are written in a language only the dead can pronounce. Living mages simulate it with song, but it’s imperfect—hence, unstable magic.
Bonus Exercise: The Babel Scene
Write a scene where two characters must communicate without a shared language. Let them gesture, draw, struggle, misunderstand, and slowly begin to trust. You’ll find tension, comedy, and emotional payoff.
Language is never neutral. It’s memory, identity, and control. Use it like a sword—or a love letter.

Sae is a casual petter. finds himself reaching for you and touching you without much thought or prompting. it’s a nasty habit, you think, when he does it for so long and without much aim and you’re always on the receiving end of it.
like now; you’re reading on you guys’ bed as Sae finishes up his shower, a thick book propped up on a pillow as you lay on your stomach. you barely hear him when he finishes, padding out into the room in sweats and a comfy shirt, before he slides into bed beside you. he turns the channel to a soccer match that you don’t pay any mind to, too indulged in your book.
the touches start casually, as they always do. you lay in a tee shirt and panties, your ass all perky and cute, practically shoved in his face. how could he keep his hands to himself? so he doesn’t. doesn’t even try to, is only in bed for a minute before his hands start petting and rubbing the backs of your thighs.
he squeezes the fat there softly, watching the way your feet sway in the air, content from his touch. and when the soccer match on tv gets a little more intense, his hands inch up to the fat of your ass. he palms a cheek in hand, groping ever so gently. your eyes lose focus a bit, the words blurring into the background. is he going to—?
he does. slides his thumb beneath your panties to pet at your lips, parting them with a blunt nail. he finds wetness there that he doesn’t care to open you up with, but instead spread to every inch of your cunt that he can. you definitely can’t focus now, eyes fluttering closed ever so slightly, your hips pushing back against his hand, looking for him to stuff you with his fingers or rub your clit until it’s raw and puffy—
“why aren’t you focusing on your book?” Sae asks, his eyes flittering to the side of your face before he focuses back on the tv. “you whined for me to buy you that special edition for weeks. don’t tell me I should return it and get my money back?”
“it’s kind of hard to focus with your hand in my panties.” you huff at him, throwing a look over your shoulder that he barely glances at. Sae only responds by pressing two fingers against your hole, but doesn’t push in, only gets them nice and sticky with your excitement before he pulls them back. you see a ghost of a smile on his lips when you pout at him.
“it’s just some mindless petting. don’t mind me.” he mutters, eyebrows knitting as he critiques the game under his breath, fingers petting softly at your bush when you slightly raise your hips to slide his fingers inside you. but he pulls them away at the right moment, pressing sticky fingers against the taut skin between your cunt and your ass. you fall face down in your book with a huff from frustration.
“but it’s hard when—”
“I’m trying to watch the game.” Sae cuts you off, his words carrying a sense of finality in them. you know he’s not going to budge, too used to this ‘mindless petting’ that always ends with you a soaked mess, begging to cum, while he touches you for hours until his fixation bleeds away. all you can do is settle in for the night, as much as you can, knowing that you’ll have to go over these same pages in the morning when he’s gone because you haven’t absorbed a single thing since he started touching you. just the way he, secretly, likes it.

Sleepovers at the manor. SLEEPOVERS AT THE MANOR.
Bruce had always been very wary of who got to and who didn't get into the manor further than the guest spaces, and when Dick appearead in his life with eyes that could make him do literally anything, he feared the day he'd ask to bring a friend over
Maybe that's why he decided to use the ancient ways Alfred has once used against him and Harvey
Embarrasment
Wally West was used as a warning to Dick, and he learned
Dick didn't get the chance to teach Jason that lesson in his time as Robin, but when his little wing and Roy crashed at his place one time, he got it
He'd gotten practice before that, learning from the masters themselves when Tim invited young justice over
Tim got back at him by sending Kory and Babs some of his old stash of Robin photos
Steph tried to escape it, but she and Cass got trapped at the same time by Alfred's cookies, and that day, Tim took notes
By the time Jon first stayed with Damian for a sleepover, Damian knew about the 'tradition' already and he was determined to prove himself over it
He failed when all of his sibblings joined forces, from Dick's retale of when he was his Batman, to Todd's old stories from their time training in the league and somehow Drake had gotten pictures of him when he was younger (Talia gladly contributed)
Was it too late for his father to un-adopt them all?

This grew out of seeing new pics of Bucky in Thunderbolts (thx @dcangstfiction ) just being done with everyone's shit and shepherding those super-children... immediately followed by my Duolingo widget staring at me with this... unique mixture of deep contempt and disappointment. If you know the one you know the one. Well, A plus B equaled a neat idea for a tumblr thing. Which went a bit out of hand, I guess.
Just gonna share some detail of the tiny car:

been practicing italian like a madman lately and i feel like i’m starting to understand the words a little better. just wanted to share my technique that i am currently using. mainly so that i wont forget it when i wake up tomorrow haha.
i pick an italian video, i personally like easy italian (because their videos are fun and have subtitles) and then i write down everything they say in a document on the computer. using my script i then play the video a couple times and read along.
at this point i’m pretty familiar with the words, but i look up the “new” or interesting words that i am either curious about or just find useful. i write the words or phrases down in my notebook and practice them. afterwards i reread the script along with the video again.

Thinking about how language influences our cultures and reinforces ideas. I find it entirely believable that clans would have their own secret languages that no one else would know. Like imagine a scenario where in Uchiha clan tongue, “going blind” is synonymous to dying. Just. The possibilities are endless. I do not think they would lose those languages after konoha’s founding either it would be a big part of their cultures

this baby’s from 2019 I think
I don’t usually fully finish/colour a sketch but I needed to plan so much in this piece
I painted it with underglaze first, before adding the black lines with the mishima technique
I chose blackberries for death and grief, and poppies and forget-me-nots for remembrance. even the frogs that aren’t endangered are so few these days :(

El Desperado's 2019 match (technically speaking, pair of matches) against Kasai was a huge turning point in his career. It left a permanent impact on him, not just emotionally but physically - during that match Kasai broke Desperado's jaw with a punch to the face.
The fallout from this unfortunate injury ended up bringing the two of them closer together.
Desperado would go on to incorporate the injury into his own mask, as a gold-joinery series of cracks along the left side of his jaw.
Tumblr media
But Desperado also incorporated his relationship with Kasai into his moveset. After his jaw healed and he was able to return to the ring, he added some new moves to his arsenal.
One was a punch to the jaw, named "Loco Mono" in homage to "Crazy Monkey" Kasai.
Tumblr media
Kasai would go on to name his own right-fisted punch "Picaro" (rogue in Spanish) in return, an homage to "Rogue Luchador" Desperado.
Desperado also incorporated Kasai's Reverse Tiger Driver into his moveset, building it into a combination that leads to his own finisher, Pinche Loco.
Tumblr media
The first technique, with a vertical drop, is a Reverse Tiger Driver, one of Kasai's signature finishing moves. The second, with a horizontal drop and rotation, is Desperado's Pinche Loco.
In combination, the two moves feel seamless, like they were meant to go together. It makes me wonder if Desperado got some inspiration for his own finishing move from Kasai, years before they ever shared a ring.

how to revise effectively
revision is a very important part of education, but many people have no idea how. in this post i'm going to outline the basics of revision. it's important to note that different subjects will require you to revise differently, there is no one size fits all when it comes to revision.
less is more- studying for 30 focused minutes is way more effective than a 5 hour study session while you watch tv.
work on exam technique- this is such an overlooked part of revising for an exam, but if you know how to answer the questions and what structures to use, it will really help you. ask your teacher or search for your exam board online to find out the best way for your subject and exam board.
manage distractions- if like me you get distracted super easily, you need to create an environment with limited distractions. this means put your phone on do not disturb, if your house/place of study is noisy put some headphones on and listen to classical music or study ambience (my favourites are the Harry Potter rooms by Asmrweekly on youtube). if you get distracted while studying by thinking of things you need to do, something that's really helped me is to have a piece of paper next to me that i can write all my thoughts on, so i can continue studying and do what i've written afterwards.
set precise goals for your study session- this helps to reduce procrastination. for example, if I put "study geography" on my to do list i'll procrastinate, but if I put "do 30 flashcards for the topic hazards" I have a clear idea of what I need to do
use the pomodoro method- having breaks is really important in keeping you engaged while you're studying. I don't follow the typical timings, but I usually do between 30-45 minutes of studying followed by a 10-15 minute break depending on how I'm feeling
utilise your study breaks- it's so easy to pick your phone up and scroll through tiktok until you realise your 5 minute break turned into a 3 hour tiktok binge. when I go on a study break, I only go on my phone to snap people back, or for a little scroll on pinterest. I also like to get some more water, grab a snack and stretch. If I'm having a longer break, I'll try to get outside and go for a walk, especially if the weather is good (in England this is about 5 days of the year haha)
now, onto different ways to revise
doing past papers
doing flashcards
making timelines
doing essay plans
making mindmaps
blurting
quizzes
if you study languages, practicing translations or specific types of questions that come up in the exam (for my exam board this is things like gap fill activities, 90 word listening or writing summaries, finding synonyms in a text etc.)

I thought sea monsters didn't exist until I saw one. I was diving in the cold waters with a friend of mine and we both halted at the sight of a large figure swimming around us. We thought it was a shark, but it was far worse. It was fast, it was getting closer. Soon we could see a huge bipedal being, but it wasn't a human: it was too tall, scales covered its whole body, tendrils hair moved around it like seaweed. My diving partner had a harpoon, he was terrified and shot at it. That...thing attacked him, fiercely, blood flowed all around. Then a souless, cold mask emerged from the red, murky water and watched me. I couldn't see the eyes, just two black pits, but I felt them piercing right into my soul. I couldn't move. Yet that creature didn't find me worthy of wasting its time. It swam away with the body of my friend and I never went into those waters again.

traditional drawing of ha'rcar beneath (i just enjoy putting many details)
