Coil first thoughts

of course this is subject to change as I get better and play him more, but here is my initial reaction & thoughts to his gameplay/kits

-Gravity kit is def the most fun. Especially the bounce-off move, it’s very fun to hit twice in a row too, just a bit hard as I feel the range is a bit small but we ball. but combining his abilities in this form to pull off a combo is the best feeling

-Speed kit is nice too, though I found myself mostly in it to help out my teammates, not for the abilities themselves. They feel so small in range, which kind of sucks since the speed boost is probably the buff that will help teammates out the most. Though now as I’m typing this out, I realize you’re probably supposed to utilize the speed in order to get in close to enemies to hit those abilities. Will def try that next time I play

-Healing kit is so lackluster imo. I feel like the healing is so small, that sometimes it’s not even worth it to stay in the form for long. I feel like almost every Phighter can out-damage your healing. Medkit & Vinestaff are way better healers, though I suppose it’s because they are centered around healing, while Coil has two other kits you can utilize. I think Coil would definitely work better having another healing support to support them as they do the healing, and leaving the main healing to that healer. His blocking ability feels so short compared to the trailer version, but of course it was probably for cinematic purposes or was nerfed in the testing phase as the devs maybe found it to be too strong. I think it would be nicer if it worked like Banhammer’s swinging ability where the more he gets hit, the longer he blocks and of course stacks up more heals for the team

Also I think it would be better if instead of tapping R to cycle through the modes, you could hold R to pick which mode on a mini wheel through keybinds or the mouse scroller. Though that’s obviously up to opinion for what people prefer.

Love the thought of Leo just casually being well traveled to absurd degrees. Like one day they’re facing their new Big Bad of the year and like, Draxum or whoever says that the key to their fight is located somewhere in, like, Latvia or some place, but no one knows where to start.

Then Leo’s like “oh I know a place” and when asked how the heck he could know of one it smash cuts to Leo falling through the ceiling of said place due to a portal mishap.

Also love the idea of Leo, being as accidentally (and then later, purposefully) well traveled as he is, sometimes taking his family on outings to different places all over, maybe to some new Yokai spots he found along the way.

In these places, Leo 100% lets his bros get scammed by tourist traps.

in the book and movie steve and pony have a sort of reluctant friendship, we all know this. it’s one of the biggest gags in the fandom that they can’t stand the other.

but in the musical they are so friendly. idk something about how steve isn’t treating pony like a tag along as much as usual. since he’s not AS close with pony as the others i think it’s probably easier for steve to see pony for the young man he’s growing into and that makes it easier for them to be friends.

dally: and still i feel alone

musical dally who’s been running all over the country. tulsa might be the longest he’s stayed in a place and he may have found a family in these people but he’s still alone.

two-bit who’s 18 years old and still junior in high school who knows he’s not leaving tulsa in this lifetime. two-bit who has an alcohol addiction who’s never really sober of his own volition who knows he’s never making it out of tulsa so he’ll do the best he can to fight the battles that are preventing his friends from leaving Tulsa. his friends who are good enough to leave and who are supposed to leave

ace: their story’s not my own

ace who’s the only one besides with her own story. we know her story thanks to tilly. we don’t know if she’s going to do big things but we know she has ideals and is her own person with wishes and dreams.

ace follows the others around because she can, not because she doesn’t have anything better to do but out of love. she’s making her own story whilst keeping bookmarks in the others stories

she the only girl in this group too so of course her story looks different. she’s never going to be able to go to the others for advice like they can.

there’s no book to help her out; her story is completely and totally her own

soda my beloved. he gets this line because even though he’s not the leader of this gang, he created it. everyone in this gang was his friend first, he just brought them all together. he’s the reason all his friends have someone they can rely on/someone they can call family.

then the light turns off and everyone is singing great expectations because they do. they have huge expectations for what they hope and want but the others sing it softer than ponyboy because he’s the only one who still has dreams of acquiring those expectations.

but then the flashlight turns on and dallas winston is the exception.

even though it’s not obvious, even though it’s in hidden actions and words, dallas is desperate to prove that he’s not the raggedy hood that he’s supposed to be.

he does have a heart. it’s not real easy and it’s certainly not first nature but he can be caring and affectionate.

he can be responsible like darry and get a job. he can be like soda and take care of who he considers his own family. he can be like two-bit and lighten the mood so no one else has to be scared or worried because he’s strong enough to take care of them. he can be like steve and ace, a general comforting spirit if the gang just needs to be around someone.

Thinking about how if Shermy Pines. And like, if he is the baby, he’d be born in the 1970s and be 40 by 2012 and he’s already a grandad. He had to be a teen dad in the 80s (after a severe economic recession) and then his kid ended up being a teen parent by 1999 (Which is 8 years before ANOTHER SEVERE ECONOMIC RECESSION LOL)

Also he was born into a pretty broken family, probably rarely if ever saw his brothers. Do you think he ever saw Stanley before he had to start pretending to be Ford? Do you think Ford visited from college??? Because he didn’t seem confident facing his father until he made millions, so like???

And, like, do you think Filbrick and Caryn changed as parents by the time they raised Shermy? Because it seems like a trend that as parents get older they mellow out a bit, so Shermy probably has a completely different experience with their parents then Stan and Ford, and talking to them is just “is this seriously the same parents???” (Imagine the silent resentment that’d cause 😭😭😭)

Personally I headcannon that Shermy had a daughter (Mabel and Dipper’s mom) and not a son like it says on the wiki because c’mon. Can he just have a daughter. Idk why this is important to me but… c’mon. Can he just have a daughter. It just feels right to me.
