Update below original post
The Iranian Regime is going to execute rapper Toomaj Salehi for supporting protests of Jina Amini’s murder by the regime in his songs.
Iranian activist Elica Le Bon says, “Iranians in the diaspora picked up on the fact that the regime tends not to execute people who become known to the international community. We have seen many examples of prisoners that were either released on bail or had their sentences commuted through our “say their names to save their lives” campaign on social media, using hashtags to garner attention for their causes, and even before social media existed, through getting the stories of political prisoners to international media outlets. Once reported on, and once the eyes shift to the regime and the reality of its pending brutality, realizing that the action is not worth the repercussions, we have seen them back down and not execute. For that reason, this is part of an urgent campaign for readers to talk about Toomaj as much as you can, using the hashtag #FreeToomaj or #ToomajSalehi. Every comment makes a difference, and if we were wrong, what did we lose by trying?”
Update: Hey everyone! Toomaj Salehi’s death sentence was overturned! The most recent article I could find says he is still in jail though. Please keep sharing, because people to need to understand what’s happening. According to Amnesty International, Iran carried out 74% of the world’s executions in 2023, not including executions from China since they don’t release those numbers. The execution rate is growing higher with 67 executions in June alone, 48 of which were ethnic minorities despite all together being only 40% of the population. Their crimes are protesting the government for murdering women. Please keep sharing, because while there are many injustices happening far away that can’t be stopped by posting, the Say Their Names to Save Their Lives Movement works.

Every political situation in the Middle East the US gets involved in is not automatically like Iraq.
People saying it's a "lie" that the Iranian government could have nukes are seriously underestimating Khamenei's genocidal regime and slapping every Woman Life Freedom protestor who has continuously warned about the regime's aspirations in the face.
That doesn't mean Trump's actions are all "good" either- bombing nuclear facilities can have deadly consequences for civilians living nearby. It is also concerning that a leader like Trump can decide to go to war without other parts of the government ok-ing it.
But the amount of sanitizing of the Iranian regime- which has murdered, tortured, and raped countless dissidents- is unacceptable.

If your feminism doesn't include Iranian and Afghan women, then you're not a feminist.
If your feminism doesn't include women suffering in highly patriarchial societies, then you're not a feminist.
If your feminism doesn't include honour killing victims, then you're not a feminist.
If your feminism doesn't include women suffering at the hands of a zealot religious ideology, then you're not a feminist.
If you support women who want to wear the hijab, but don't support women who don't want to wear it, then you're a morally corrupted person.

“I never imagined I’d reach a point where I’d have to write these words…”

My name is Batool, a displaced woman from Gaza. I’ve lost my home, my work, and the simplest necessities of life. Today, my husband and I are doing our best to hold on to something called hope—despite the pain and uncertainty of displacement.
Maybe these words will reach a kind heart that can make a difference:
– By offering any financial support, no matter how small
– Or simply by sharing this post so it reaches more people
Every act of humanity counts, especially now.
Support us, or be our voice.
Only God knows how far your kindness can go.
I thank you and the situation, and I sincerely hope you will help me.

"Why are some people so mad at Kneecap?? Criticism of Israel isn't antisemitic"
Criticism of Israel isn't inherently antisemitic- that's correct. But Kneecap has waved Hezbollah flags in the past, and coupled with the ambiguity of their statement plus the context of this happening at a music festival, it has sparked concern among a lot of Jews
Hezbollah is a terror group which is explicitly antisemitic. They view Israeli and Jewish civilians as legitimate targets and supported the October 7th attacks. They are also funded by the Islamic Republic of Iran- a fascist group which movements like the Woman, Life, Freedom Movement have begged people to stand against. They are not freedom fighters for Palestine, and the fact Kneecap believed they are is concerning
Anytime anyone says Fuck (insert country name here) there is always ambiguity. When a country's civilians have repeatedly been dehumanized to the point their deaths and assaults are justified, and many have argued that they are just as guilty as their government leaders no matter what they believe, there are reasons Fuck (country name) statements are going to cause concern and have their true intents and meanings questioned
Could Kneecap's statement be simply targeting the Israeli government? Possibly. If they had specifically said "Fuck Netanyahu" I would see no problem with it. I also have no issue with any artist shouting “Free Palestine” or waving a Palestinian flag. Though I wish more in the music community would also acknowledge Israeli and Jewish pain and not act like they have to “choose” between supporting either people, Palestinian pain deserves a multitude of empathy and global attention. But due to Kneecap’s past support of Hezbollah and that statement sometimes being used by others to mean Israelis as a whole, its meaning and intent are unclear
If someone projected a screen that put “Fuck” before Palestine, had a history of supporting Kahanism (a violent right wing ideology which promotes murdering and enslaving Palestinians and other Arabs) and other people dismissed it as merely being a statement against Hamas, how would you feel? Would you trust it to not be talking about Palestinians as a whole?
The lack of outcry from the global festival community after the October 7th massacre has left Jews feeling alone. It has made us feel as though Jewish festival goers are not valued, our deaths and suffering shrugged at by others we trusted would care for us in our time of need. The inability to see nuance as to why many are hurt by Kneecap’s actions just compounds our pain

Today marks one year anniversary of 2022 Iranian uprising against the oppressive Islamic Republic regime. An uprising that started with the brutal murder of a young kurd woman, Mahsa Jina Amini, for "inappropriate hijab".
For the past couple of weeks, the regime has prepared their forces to beat down any new movement immediately. The streets of Tehran and many other cities are lined with anti riot forces and police cars. In Saqez, the home city of Amini family, they've stationed the army around the city to massacre people in case they try to start another wave of protest. Mahsa's father has been arrested alongside some family members of other last year uprising martyrs.
There has been small protesting gatherings in Iran in the last two days, there has already been some arrests and violent crackdowns on protesters. I hear people chanting from my neighborhood homes. The government would commit as many bloodbaths as it takes to secure their position, but you can't beat people into obedience when they hate you from the bottom of their hearts.

In September 2022 Mahsa Amini, a young woman from Iran’s oppressed Kurdish minority, visited Tehran with her brother. She was stopped and arrested by Iran’s “morality” police (gasht-e ershad), who routinely arbitrarily detain women who do not comply with the country’s abusive and discriminatory compulsory veiling laws.
Eyewitnesses said that police pushed her into a van and beat her, taking her to Vozara detention centre in Tehran. Mahsa/Zhina Amini and her brother were told that she was being transferred to Vozara for an “educational” class aimed at “reforming” the behaviour of women and girls who violate the country’s rigid Islamic dress code. Her brother was also beaten when he protested.
Hours after her arrest, credible reports arose that the “morality” police had subjected her to torture and other ill-treatment inside the police van, including through beatings to her head. She fell into a coma, and was transferred in an ambulance to Kasra hospital in Tehran.
She died in custody three days later in hospital, on 16 September 2022.
She was just 22 years old

update on Toomaj Salehi, the Iranian rapper who supported the protests in '22 and '23. His lawyer has told the press Salehi has been sentenced to death today. There's still the possibility to appeal, which they will. However, it's not an anomaly. More protesters have been sentenced to death. (source)
