I am keeping up with other anime too right now but I CANT BELIEVE SHE ACTUALLY ADMITTED IT!!! THIS IS THE FIRST TIME WE WITNESSED A FORGER LET GO OF THEIR SECRET LIKE THAT! COMPLETELY WILLINGLY!!!

She didnt just slip, she actually gave away her secret freely which is something I never wouldve expected from this series in a million years with how tight the status quo and the characters hold their secrets. Like I thought we would see a reveal of some sort with them but never in a way that would be this casual and trusting, that is actually so surprising like what the hell I was caught completely off guard this is huge

Okay, but, Bruce gentle parenting the fuck out of the Justice League is literally such a funny concept. Like, the only reason it works so well is because of the overwhelming amount JL Daddy Issues; they’re all secretly desperate for some parental affection and Bruce is so naturally a Dad that he can’t help himself.

That gold star thing he used to do with Dick? Where he gave him a little star every time he kept himself safe during a patrol? Same thing works perfectly for Clark. He’s literally indestructible (but Bruce worries) so whenever he comes out unscathed from a battle (which is most of the time) he’ll hand Clark a little golden star sticker. Clark collects those things like they’re priceless artifacts and sticks them on his laptop.

The anger management therapy he did with Jason? Where he’d run through katas (a series of choreographed martial arts movements) whilst doing breathing exercises? Works like a charm on Diana and Dinah. They’re both super powered, so anything Bruce puts in front of her they’ll destroy, so going through a good old fashioned kata before a big mission will help them both focus without risking the destruction of the Watchtower.

The mindful meditation he did with Tim? When they’d sit in silence until Tim’s brain finally trained itself to know rest? It’s the perfect thing for Barry. He’s a speedster so his brain moves at about the same pace as Bruce and Tim’s (though maybe not quite as analytically); the post-mission meditation sessions are the perfect thing to help him calm down.

The art therapy he did with Damian? Where they’d paint memories that brought them pain/loneliness/loss/sadness because talking about it was too hard? Surprisingly, both John and Hal are into it. (Must be a Lantern thing.) Neither of them are great artists, but John paints about his time in the army and Hal about his time in the Air Force. They’ve both lost friends and comrades, have seen the worst of humanity up close, and just can’t always verbalize that feelingly of powerlessness even though their the galaxy’s greatest warriors—but they can paint it.

The silent chess games he’d play with Cassandra? Where’d they’d sit there and pick each others brains without having to say a word, could communicate an immense amount of emotion with the slide of a pawn? Great for Jon. He can’t talk into Bruce’s mind (not without considerable effort) and he can’t really talk to Bruce about everything that happened to him on Mars, but they can sit and play chess until they both have a mutual understanding of one another’s trauma.

All the crocheting he’s done with Steph? Where they’d sit in front of a fireplace in Wayne Manor and discuss their similarly complex relationships with their parents? Loved to do this with Arthur, of all people. They have to get waterproof Atlantean yarn, but the efforts worth the creations they make during Monitor duty, and it’s one of those rare time when Arthur can really vent about all of his troubles leading a life above and below sea, being a king, his love life—anything. Bruce will always listen.

And then, all of the soccer that he’s played with Duke? Where they’d let loose and just be competitive? Cyborg similarly appreciates this, but prefers football, naturally. Now, Bruce is too old to tackle a Mother-Box-Enhanced human, but that doesn’t stop him from covertly setting up pick-up football games on the front lawn of the Hall of Justice every other week.

So yeah. Bruce and his gentle parenting.

Bat family gets neurodivergent kid (reader)

(non-specific, but I try to add as much as I can to make everyone feel included. I will probably make one specific for my personal things in the future, but this is just a general one :))

ALSO I know I usually do all of the Batfam, but I’m still working on ideas for the others, so I will have to just post it with the main batsons (Dick, Jason, Tim, Damian, Bruce)

Bruce has found out he has another biological child, but they’re neurodivergent:

Bruce had, of course, known about your diagnoses (if you have one) beforehand. He thought it’d be fine- he had dealt with so much more than just a kid who’s a little special, right?

He didn’t realize that there’s a big difference between a kid with severe trauma, and a kid who is naturally different than the rest of the people around them

So one thing he was surprised by was your ability to obsess/hyperfixate on something. It’s not like he minded buying you the merchandise, or bringing you to the cons, or listening to you talk for hours about your interest (he actually quite enjoys listening to you, and it makes it easier to shop for your birthday and Christmas), but he just didn’t expect to be fully taken aback by your enthusiasm

He also didn’t know how to handle your abnormalities with schoolwork, especially if you’re unmedicated. He still loved you, of course! He loved you so much. You’re his baby, no matter what age you are, but he’s had to learn to accommodate you

Dick has known many people, and he’d be lying if he said that none of his teammates or friends were neurodivergent, so he had a much easier time adjusting to your needs

You’re overwhelmed? Here, he has some earplugs and knows the perfect breathing exercises! You want to sit in complete silence and shut down? Dick will make you some little snacks and make sure everyone leaves you alone! You need to ramble? Dick wouldn’t mind listening!

He’s your brother- your OLDEST brother- and he wants you to rely on him/have somewhere to go

Jason is NOT equipped to handle this. He’s in the boat with Bruce of ‘trying to learn, but has a long ways to go’

Sometimes he says jokes you take too literally, so he’s had to teach himself to cool it a bit, or at least clarify that no, he does not hate you at all. Sometimes he gets too loud or worked up when you’re shutting down, so he’s gotten you to give him a signal when you need him to tone it down or just leave you be.

He’s trying. He may not understand as well as Dick or Tim, but he’s trying, and he appreciates that you’re being patient with him

Tim is great with you! He did his homework, obviously, (come on, he’s Tim!) and he’s got as many things as you’ll need. He’s learned to carry fidgets in his pockets, headphones/earplugs if needed, and is ready to help in social situations when needed.

You and him both are mutual yappers. He yaps, you listen, and vise versa. It’s actually very refreshing! You feel better, knowing you can both enjoy each other’s company

Damian, to everyone’s surprise, is the most understanding.

Actually, many people assume that Damian IS neurodivergent (whether he is or not, he’s never been tested), so he’s pretty pleased to have a siblings that understands he isn’t being irrational on some things.

You need things organized a certain way? Him too. You hate change? He wishes everything stayed static. You don’t feel emotions the same way as everyone else/respond inappropriately to situations? Finally, someone who gets it! (ASPD, certain people with ASD, etc.)

You end up being one of his new favorite siblings

(I keep seeing theories that Batman is autistic/neurodivergent, and I think those are cute so here’s my take on if you and him both liked bats a lot because I need fluff in my life)

Okay, so Bruce gets you, his second biological child (or first, depending on age), in his custody, and what does he see?

Well, it’s you, but the second you walk inside and see ANY piece of Bat memorabilia, you get all excited! It’s so cute!

He watches you guess what kind of bat is which, show him your own toys/shirts/etc. of bats, and when he tells you he’s the BATMAN? He finally feels like a cool dad!

Alfred is frozen SOLID. It’s just a mini-Bruce.

Suddenly, Christmas is very easy when it comes to shopping. One year, Dick decides to get you both matching pajama sets, and Bruce felt like he could cry.

He likes to call you “Little Bat” and stuff, which starts to be caught on by the rest of the family. It doesn’t matter if your 3 or 18, he’ll always call you that.

(Lmk if you like this a lot because I’d LOVE to write more of just Bruce and reader being hyperfixated on bats together)

Reincarnation Everlasting Trio Part 3 (DPxDC)

[I wanted to post this on White Day to pair it up with the first part that came out on Valentine's Day, but I confused the dates thinking it coincided with 🔪Stabby Day🔪 (the Ides of March), sooo... Sorry?] (^～^;)ゞ(シ_ _)シ

Danny doesn't know why he's so antsy. 

…Correction, he does know, but just doesn't want to acknowledge it.

If Jazz were here, she would have said that he was developing a codependency with Tucker-now-Damian, so being apart for a while would do them good. And she would have been annoyingly right, but she's not here, so Danny is allowed to be antsy. 

Oh, he saw right through Alfred's attempts at distracting him, but given that it was an honest effort and the butler did need a hand, Danny had accepted to help.

But now his Core is incessantly buzzing at him to go and join his future boyfriend (as they had both agreed to wait for Sam before making anything official). And Danny… doesn't know if this is just his normal anxiety or if it’s some sort of ghost instinct/power he knows nothing about. Last time he had ignored a symptom, it had resulted in him freezing from the inside out as his Ice Core had developed, so it's hard to ignore this. 

And this is why, as a particularly high spike of this anxiety shakes his Core while Alfred is putting the cookies in the oven for the post-patrol, Danny yeets himself out of the Manor and starts searching for Robin. 

Something is guiding him in midtown, so he follows without question. Putting on the modified Fenton Phone on, he intercepts the Bats’ signal (or better, Babs had left the channel open for him whenever he needed it) and catches the coda of Robin saying «...to be mutually exclusi-» before the announcement of Joker's break out stalls his Core, making him go faster instead of freezing. 

Why does it always have to be circus freaks?!

…And why does it always have to be exploding fast food joints!? Phantom asks himself as soon as he sees his People on the roof of the Batburgers at the same time as Hiereus announces the bombs’ placement.

After that, Danny's memory is a blur, images superimposing themselves one over the other, as the cackle of his evil future self echoes in his ears along the boom.

Had he lost them again?

Antheia thinks she's living an out of body experience, since nothing could have compared to the utter madness of this night. Being dumped by the only person in the whole universe that understands her on a molecular level hurts more than any rejection she had experienced in her whole life and will have beyond combined.

The fifteen-years-old girl should have never allowed someone in her heart and given him so much power over her. And the most pathetic thing about this is that she has lost against an unknown boy. If it wasn’t for that particular detail, Thea would have raged against Robin about what her rival has more than her, when the answer is obvious. 

Then the news of the megalomaniac escaping and having access to bombs seems like the shitty cherry on the compost cake, only to be topped by the realization that she’s too far away from any plant that could have taken them away from the danger and…!

Green staring directly into her soul is everything and the only thing that her brain registers as her body feels two collisions (one after the other) and the following whiplash of terminal velocity stopping not even a second later. 

The whole world and the Green (as in the flora) itself could be burning to the ground and Thea wouldn’t have noticed since she’s fixated on this kind of toxic green... No, ectoplasm green.

Her gasp at that tiny epiphany seems enough to make the wielder of those irises unfreeze and then thoroughly wrap himself around her (and her mom?? Someone big is definitely leaning on her in the ghostly cocoon). Not even a second later tears wet her shoulder and their bundle is shaken by sobs, as their saviour is taken over by hysterics. But why…?

“Heeey, Danny, it’s okay, you made it in time this time. You saved them.” Wiggling makes the girl be able to look over the shoulder of the sobbing ghost and gasp at the sight: a teenager about Robin’s age is hovering beside them (with Batman under his arm like a bedragged puppy), dressed in an inverted version of the sidekick’s suit, but his features are completely different from what she expects. Gone are the middle-eastern somatic traits, as they are replaced by afro-american ones with white dreadlocks and the very same ectoplasmic green eyes of the unknown savior. 

“Tucker?” The name escapes unbidden from her lips, but immediately it feels right and everything rushes back.

In the meantime said boy does a double-take, as his eyes google-out and he splutters. “Whastg- Sam??” 

“And Jazz!” A cheerfully (with a note of unhinged hysterics) cuts through, making both (aware) teens jump and turn as much as they can towards Harley Quinn. “Guess that being the mom-friend actually made me a mom, at last!”

“What the actual fuck, Jazz! You can’t be my mom! It’s so unfair!” Thea!Sam protests, trying to wiggle in the ghost’s octopus grasp to see her better.

“I second that! Besides, Harleen Quinzel was born before the accident!” Robin!Tucker exclaims, bewildered, as the ghost squeezes the duo a bit more. “It would be a paradox!”

“I’m just good like that, then.” Harley!Jazz sniffs, in mock-self-importance. “No paradox happened when I read the letter of my past self and it even changed my life! So take that!” 

A sigh so deep that it can be felt into the bones stop any further bickering and the trio turns to look at Batman, who is holding the bridge of his nose as if it’s the last dreg of his sanity left. “While this proves to be the most beneficial development, we still need to go and catch the Joker.”

Robin!Tucker winces, looking at the ghost clinging to the reincarnations. “Good luck with that, Dad, because Danny’s not gonna let them go anytime soon. And you can bet that when he’s coherent enough again, we’re gonna be engulfed in that hug for a while, too. The thing that just happened triggered his most major trauma, soo…” He trails, gesturing to the ghost… that only now T!Sam registers as who really is and so she startles.

“Oh Ancients, Danny!” T!Sam forces the halfa to raise his face from the crook of her neck and he pliantly obliges, but he’s still crying a river and ugly sobbing. He looks like he hasn’t aged a day from his 15th birthday and that he actually matches the description of the meta-vigilante that’s attached to Robin’s hip. Guilt immediately surges inside of her for the things she has said about him during the argument on the roof and so she hugs him, tight, copied by H!Jazz.

“...Okay. Robin,” said halfa floats straighter, “we’ll leave the search and subjugation of the Joker to Nightwing and Black Bat. Can you bring us to the safehouse Tango-Uniform-Echo? That would give us at least a semblance of privacy.”

“There should be no issue.” Experimentally he pushes Phantom’s back and the group moves in the right direction, so after a nod, Robin ferries everyone in the agreed safehouse (by also turning them invisible and intangible to sneak in).

As soon as they are enclosed by the walls, Phantom uncoils a bit, just enough to let R!Tucker slip into the hug (Batman, luckily for him, manages to stay out of reach and so he’s free, but poised as a sentry), as they relocate on a king-sized bed for comfort. Danny seems to have calmed down enough to have stopped crying, but he’s dissociating now, so that leaves R!Tucker to be questioned by the girls.

“Why is he still so young? He should be at least a decade older.” H!Jazz murmurs, drying the old tears from her former-little-brother.

“...Do you remember the villain that offed us?” A flash of red eyes and fangs makes the duo shudder and Danny unconsciously hugs them tighter. “Since Danny wanted to avoid creating him, the moron decided it was better if he went Sleeping Beauty.” R!Tuck fondly pets the other’s white hair, getting a faint purr in response. “My current-life siblings and I found his capsule a few weeks ago and by waking him up, it also awakened my memories.”

“Did that make you a halfa?” T!Sam whispers, eyeing his ghost form. “And why do you look like past-you like this?”

He snickers in response. “Nah, I’m a halfa because of my grandfather and then a recent dip in an ectoplasmic pool jump-started my Core.” He looks down at himself. “Remember how Danny once said that ghosts’ appearance is derived by their self-image?” Two nods. “Since I still see myself at least half as Tucker, my ghost form reflects that. So that I can be both myselves.”

There’s a pause of silence, in which T!Sam gathers the courage to speak up. “I’m sorry about early. You did have a good reason to avoid going on full missions, I guess. Danny’s first weeks of adjustment weren’t funny.”

R!Tuck shakes his head. “I still should have said something, that’s the least you deserved. We’ve been partners in crime-fighting in both the past and current life.” He lifts her red bangs with a hand to kiss her on the forehead. “Danny and I were also searching for you, yanno? We were certain that you were stubborn enough to get yourself a new life to kick our asses again.”

T!Sam blushes up to the tip of her ears and tries to push him away with no result, since Danny is still holding tight. “Tucker Robin Foley! Who are you and what did you do to both my boys? None of them were this smooth and direct!”

R!Tuck just laughs. “Blame Danny! The moron just straight kissed me out of nowhere to shut me up! I don’t even know how he managed to convince me that the three of us won’t dance around each other this time around. Probably it was something about being too late last time and regretting it.”

“Not the Clueless One anymore, then?” H!Jazz joins in petting Danny’s hair fondly.

“Not for this, at least. I bet he’ll find other ways to make us exasperated.” R!Tuck drawls.

“That’s a sucker bet, no one will take you up to that.” T!Sam deadpans.

“TT, there are so many of them in my family they would have flocked at the chance, I tell you.”

“...Did you just make a bird pun?” A rough voice just above of a whisper breaks the brief quiet deadpan spell and the three of them turn to Danny, who’s blinking lethargically at R!Tuck.

“Figures that that’s what makes you come back to the land of the living, you dork.” The vigilante ruffles the other halfa’s hair fondly. “How do you feel?”

“Drained.” Danny goes to rub his eyes with a hand, but finds both of them still gripping T!Sam and H!Jazz’s clothes. He frowns in confusion and looks up at the woman and girl, then stares at them uncomprehending. After a second of rebooting, he turns to R!Tuck, still confused. “Why am I clinging to your crush and her mom?”

While the “stabby” Robin chokes at the statement, H!Jazz snickers then outright cackles in unhinged glee, while T!Sam processes the whole thing. What is her life?

“OMG, your nonexisting mouth-filter while exhausted is still the same!” H!Jazz replaces the other’s boy hand on the (confused) white head, whose owner looks at her owlishly. Her mirth gives way to fondness and bittersweetness. “I’m glad that some things never change, after all, little brother.”

Tentatively, with hope in his eyes, a more alert Danny whispers “Jazz?” and that spurs T!Sam to be included.

“Yeah, can you believe that, Danny? Being saved by your Sleeping Beauty ass just to discover that your sister is now my mom? What’s next, Mr. Lancer reincarnated as Superman?” 

“Please, don’t even joke about that! It’s bad enough that he flirts with Father, I can’t add this to the folder as well!” (In the background Batman silently chokes like his son has done a few seconds before. Clark does what??)

(Ignoring the banter, Danny silently takes in T!Sam's appearance –the blood red hair, the sky blue eyes, the greenish sheen on her pale skin, the dormant humm inside her chest–, but, above everything else, the familiar signature of her soul, which, like Harley’s, brings a pang of nostalgia for the Before.)

Before T!Sam can continue to tease her friend, she’s engulfed into another hug along with her mom, this time more coherent, but with the same urgency and desperation that had been before. 

With a fond sigh H!Jazz hugs back, while T!Sam strokes his back as Danny nuzzles into her shoulder. They stay silent for a while before he starts to chuckle.

At the general “uhm?”, Danny leans back with wet eyes, but still no new tears spilled. “I should have guessed that Tucker’s new life’s crush couldn’t have been anyone else other than you, he is predictable like that!”

“Danny! Stop exposing me like this! I still have a reputation to maintain among my brothers!” R!Tuck protests indignantly.

“What reputation?” Danny chortles. “Why do you think I know about ‘Blossom’ and how far gone you were for her in the first place before I came?”

“Greyson…” R!Tuck growls with the same venom of the “Dinkleberg”-meme.

“Not even the worst offender! Hiereus and Spoiler are such gossiping old ladies that they took me up to speed with probably everything after they kidnapped me for their shovel talk.” As the reincarnated trio gapes, Danny hums in thought. “That and making me part of the betting pool definitely took away points from their intimidation factor, tho. Pity, because at that point it had been a solid 8.”

“Who gave the best one?” H!Jazz, still bewildered, asks in genuine curiosity.

“Agent A, who else?” Danny turns to Batman who already suspected that. “Batdad, your dad is the scariest mortal that I’ve ever met, I still can’t get how he didn’t beat into submission my evil future self in the other timeline.” He rambles, probably to hide his nerves like he always did in the Before. (B almost snorts at the familiarity that Danny uses with him, already used to it after weeks of knowing him but refrains because he's worried about the deflection.) “If the Long Now is in mood for letting us visit, we could ask CW about it when we’ll go to the InfiRe for your check up. I mean, if we promise we won’t change anything it’s like watching a show, right?”

“Danny.” T!Sam cradles his face and he immediately shuts up, suddenly meek. “What are you afraid of?”

It takes him a minute of looking anywhere but them, before he caves, wilting like a flower. “...This feels too good to be true. I don’t want it to be a coma dream.”

“It just looks like that because Karma is giving back what you earned, Danny.” R!Tuck gives him a kiss on the temple and he leans in the gesture, slightly blushing green.

“Yeah, just for the whole Christmas Trauma, we should be rewarded, I swear.” H!Jazz huffs, getting a small smile from Danny. (Progress!)

“When you put it like that…” 

“Hush, ya know that I'm right-a, I've got the whole doctorate now to prove it!” The Harley in Jazz shows up with her smugness.

“Oh Green, you're right!” T!Sam is properly distressed, as the boys catch up.

“And she's also your mother now, so you can't escape from being psychoanalyzed anymore, Bloss!” R!Tuck shakes her in horror.

“Wait wait wait, how is this even possible? Isn’t your mom Poison Ivy?” Danny interrupts the escalated (dramaqueen-esque) freak out and gestures to all of her.

T!Sam squints at him in suspicion. “Didn’t his siblings tell you all the gossip?”

“Well, yeah, but most of what Hiereus knew were deductions and conspiracy theories. And this disaster of a halfa was worse than a tomb about being silent on you, when I tried to breach the subject! He just added more credibility to the crush-theory since he was trying to hoard you!” Danny points at R!Tuck, who groans and blushes green.

“TT, maybe I just wanted to be in perfect control of my powers before introducing her to you.” R!Tuck mumbles, crossing his arms.

“You wanted to show off!” T!Sam accuses, pointing into his face. He leans back, huffing, bright green in embarrassment but not refusing the statement. She then sighs deeply, facepalming with both hands. “You’re such an idiot, why do I love you is beyond me, may Green save me.” She says, muffled, unknowingly making the boys jolt in interest and hope.

They look at one another, confirming having heard her, so then they lean over.

“But we’re your idiots, so that checks out?” R!Tuck rests his forehead on hers, making her peek at him over her fingers.

She huffs and glances to the side where Danny is waiting silently and hopeful (never demanding, always waiting on the sidelines, too selfless for his own good). “Okay, fine, my idiots.” She lowers her hands and slightly headbutts R!Tuck. “But you owe me so many explanations and secrets to make us even!”

“Of course!” R!Tuck agrees readily, but to her it’s still not enough, feels almost too easy.

“And at least three steaks! That’s non-negotiable!” She growls, making the other grimace, but nod.

The loudest gasp ever heard from Danny shakes the duo apart to look at him questioningly. Being a halfa gives several advantages, among which the body manipulation, so his jaw is actually touching the bed with how much it has dropped. “SAM!” Danny shrieks when he finally gets a hold on himself (and her shoulders). “Are you actually a carnivore??”

The world tilts on its axis as Antheia and Samantha realign themselves and the girl chokes on nothing as realization strikes. “Oh Ancients, I am! It’s mama’s fault and she’s even right, I can’t go back as a vegan! It destroys the ecosystems!”

That seems to be the last straw as Danny and her mom (Jazz! She’s Jazz, oh no, oh no) start to cackle, unhinged, while R!Tucker whines that they actually switched places with reincarnation, how was that even possible…!

(Yet, neither Antheia nor Samantha regret getting this second chance to start again with her boys, despite the clear differences. No one will be able to tear them apart from one another again now.)

And I'm wondering what you think about the Dick/Talia beef? I personally find it hilarious that Dick has beef with the one who gave birth to Damian, one of the people he loves and cherishes very much

Hi anon, thank you for the compliment!

Anyhow, regarding your question, I don't think that Dick's hostility towards Talia doesn't revolve around Damian— not at first, at least. Of course, the hate could've been amplified when Damian came to light, though until then it was pretty tame in comparison. Or not, I don't know which would be funnier.

Also, I'm going to direct you to @rasalghul777 , again, because I believe that they're more adverse in this than I am when it comes to the complex relationship between Talia and pretty much all other characters, stressing on Brutalia. However, since this is in regards to my opinion, I'll try to put things into perspective. So take this with a grain of salt.

Anyhow, Dick has shown to dislike Talia early on. This is because, considering that she's an antagonist (her father is among Barman's Rogues' Gallery, if I'm not mistaken, as he was one of the main villains) Dick sees that she's a bad influence to Bruce— since this man was madly in love with Talia at the time to the point it's unhealthy for him (one of the main reason why Talia faked her miscarriage and gave Damian away in the original run of his appearance), and vice versa.

So much, in fact, that Bruce did not hesitate when it comes to choosing between her and his own ward, that being Dick at the time.

While I could be wrong, this is the context that I've gathered from this panel 🤷🤷 though I honestly doubt so.

It could also be read as the "Children not wanting to trust their parents' spouse" type of thing, which is hilarious on its' own accord.

It also doesn't help that they have fundamental disagreement from the get-go— their clashed beliefs makes it difficult for them to meet eye-to-eye.

Dick doesn't owe Talia anything, similar to how Talia doesn't owe Dick anything; he doesn't have to try to understand her, nor does she have to prove anything to him. He's entitled to hate her just as she's entitled to hate him. That hate was very much mutual between them.

(Which, when you think about it, is the same exact argument people brought up when justifying Tim's hostility towards Damian. But I don't want to go too off tangent, so that's a conversation for another day.)

However, when Damian came along, you could imagine that Dick's hatred towards Talia would be amplified ten-fold— while it's possible that he doesn't necessarily see Talia as a stereotypical bad mother (mostly for Damian's sake, and the boy insisted that she wasn't) it was difficult for him to see her as an actual decent one too.

I feel like Dick would be more inclined to blame Talia more on Damian's upbringing; even though it was (heavily, sorta) implied that Talia herself wasn't allowed to see Damian, let alone raise him back in the League.

It's worth mentioning that Dick isn't an all-knowing being. He couldn't've known, and having an actual conversation with Damian regarding his upbringing is a delicate process in itself, but he does recognize Talia as a parental figure in Damian's life and would, therefore, instinctively blame her for the majority of Damian's issues.

Though Dick eventually learns to distribute the hate equally on both parents 🤷🤷🤷 I found that to be more comical compared to a one-sided hate.

Dick: I hate both of you, I really do. You both belong together, because then the world would have to worry about two less horrible people.

Dick: But thank you for the child. I love him. He's mine now.

Bruce and Talia: ?????????

However, when push comes to shove, Dick would still (albeit begrudgingly) team up with Talia. Funnily enough, I always see it that Dick would rather side with Talia more than he would Bruce— because fuck if she doesn't have an actual reason to have a complicated relationship with Damian. Bruce has raised, like, 5 kids and couldn't figure out his teenage son? A 14 year old boy with crippling anxiety??? Get outta here.

All in all, I think both Dick and Talia would have that one relationship like two bitter grandma's who hated each other, but would still attend to the same tea party within punching distance if their beloved grandchild asked.

At least Talia would only suffer from glares. Dick would actually tackle Bruce.

for you... i am going to talk about my selkieljason wip! (as a warning, this is basically a summary of every detail i have for this fic so… if you don’t want spoilers for a hypothetical story that may never end up fully written, don’t click!)

it's a #+1 fic—i havent decided if it's going to be 3, 4, or 5 haha. the summary is:

X times Tim could have stolen Jason's coat but didn't, and 1 time Jason wrapped him in it.

It's an urban fantasy AU where non-humans are known about but either a) not common or b) still don't really show their faces much. There are a lot of stereotypes & untrue beliefs about the various non-humans, as well as conflicting myths & such. Most of them prefer not to deal with having to educate humans and either live among them secretly or have their own separate communities—or both.

Jason is a selkie, of course; Gotham has a small selkie community but they prefer to stay relatively secretive. Still, there’s a common phrase you hear among the folk of Gotham:

“You want an obedient spouse? Catch yourself a selkie wife.”

As such, Jason keeps his true nature tucked tight to his chest. He also can’t bear to be parted with his coat. It NEEDS to be within his sight at all times—nowhere else is safe enough. Luckily for him, the magic of a selkie’s pelt allows it to change forms as he wants/needs it to. It’s been a red hoodie, a school blazer, a yellow cape, and most recently, a brown leather jacket.

The bats are all aware that Jason is a selkie. Jason trusted Bruce enough to tell him after about six months to a year of living with him, and that knowledge spread to Alfred and Dick and later to Tim and Damian. (In this AU, the Robin uniform in Bruce’s case has no cape.)

I am picturing this happening while Tim and Jason are tentatively something. They start out as fwb with feelings. Both of them knowing the other has feelings but less sure of their own, if they can really be the person the other wants or needs.

There is also still definitely some friction between them. Since it’s Jason’s POV a lot of that friction is focused on whether or not Tim can live with the way he handles his cases as well as his distance from the other bats. But there’s also likely some concerns about whether or not Jason can live with Tim’s quirks, haha.

Anyway. Outside of their relationship they also work together a lot, because they genuinely do work very well as a team. They compensate for each other’s weaknesses and boost each other’s strengths—and these days, there’s a mutual respect, now that Tim is better at understanding Jason.

But they still have issues there, too.

Each of the five incidents involve them fighting or disagreeing. I also want to show them steadily taking steps in their relationship, as well; growing from fwb to more of a couple haha. But each of therese incidents/cicrcumstances involve Tim handling Jason’s coat while he’s vulnerable.

Each time, Jason wakes up fearing that Tim will have taken his coat and hidden it. Tim may not want a selkie groom—he can think of a lot of bad things about Tim, but never that he would coerce Jason into any kind of relationship—but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t want Jason’s obedience. His cooperation.

Each time, though, Jason’s coat is either safe in his sight or touching him.

The last incident is definitely the worst and the one Jason thinks that Tim will break up with him over, even if he doesn’t take the coat, but instead—

Instead he doesn’t.

It cements Jason’s trust in Tim. That he can trust him not to take advantage of what he is no matter how bad their fights get or how angry Tim is with him. And he wants to show Tim that. That he knows it, that he loves him, so—

He does it the only way he knows how:

He wraps Tim in his coat and kisses him.

Which brings us to the only proper scene I have written for this fic:

Jason runs his thumb over his coat, the leather of its disguise buttery soft, and watches Tim. He’s utterly at ease on Jason’s couch, scrolling through his phone, one arm dangling off the armrest. Jason swallows, stomach twisting with nerves. He takes a breath—in through the nose, out through the mouth. Then, he strides forward, clenching his coat a bit tighter.

He kneels in front of Tim, capturing his attention. His phone falls to the side as Tim’s brows furrow. Before he can ask what Jason is doing, Jason unfurls his coat, wrapping it around Tim’s shoulders.

His eyes grow wide. “Ja— wh—“

Jason can feel the heat on his face. Knows he has to be pink, at the very least. But he doesn’t stop, tugging Tim forward and into the briefest, chastest kiss before resting their foreheads together.

“Caught you,” he murmurs.

The smile he receives is the most beautiful thing he’s ever seen.

I love JAYSTEPH, hear me out! 🙌:

The Robin who died by the fans and the Robin that was resurrected by the fans... Is so poetic yet some people is against it, but I just fell in love with them and I want to support this ship after I was finally able to let go Timsteph and I know theres people who will be Timsteph forever and others that strongly dislike Jaysteph but I think there's more people that are just simply unconvinced so I have nothing to lose if I play business woman and try to sell this potential romance to them, it deserves a chance! Let's see the arguments against it that didn't convince me first:

Steph becoming Barbara 2.0... (what a bat-list she had: Dick, Jason, Tim in a video game and fucking Batman 💀 got her pregnant once, but I didn't disliked it when she was briefly with Luke fox) But the only options for Steph that are bat family members aside Tim are Cassandra and Jason because... Dick, Damian, Duke, Luke, Kate, Barbara 😂? Eh NOPE. And even if Barbara and Jason had a thing once it was doomed from the beginning, Babs and Jay only had in common being Joker victims and Babs follows 100% Batman's ideals (while Steph mindset allows her to understand better Jason's point). Also I think Jason idealized her, it felt like they weren't on the same "level"(Timsteph has the same problem, Steph used to kinda idealize Tim too),but with JaySteph feels different, I think they would see each other as equals, the vibes I get are that they could relate to each other better. Not to mention that if they start a relationship now it won't be the same as another Robin-Batgirl attempt, remember that when it was with Babs it was described as a long term crush he had on her (like Dick) while with Steph not only she was also a Robin (that went through a similar struggle as him), first she was Spoiler, her own independent vigilante persona (with a background Jason could totally relate with) that was 100% unrelated to Batman before she even became a Batgirl (a heroine that was independent from Batman but was inspired on him unlike The Spoiler) and currently she uses both Spoiler and Batgirl titles, in anycase this would be another Robin-Batgirl situation if it was with Damian, because Steph was Damian's Batgirl (they even reminded Dick his olds days with Babs) but he was 10 and she was 18 so obviously NOPE. The relationship would start NOW as their current selves by realizing mutually how much they understand each other better than anyone, they aren't joined by the Joker they would be drawn because of their personalities and the struggles they had with their own families and the rejection they suffered from the BAT-family (at different times but the struggle is the same). This is something neither Tim or Babs can fully understand.

They're like "siblings". Ha! NOPE. Strongly disagree. They aren't related biologically or legally and Steph isn't even in Bruce care like Duke, she is basically... " Your kid's best friend who eats your fridge food" and with the issue about her dating Tim's brother, some people who pulls the sibling card are completely fine with Steph being with Cassandra... So dating Tim's brother is not ok but is ok to date his sister? 🤨 And bringing back the first argument the only ones I see as Steph's 100% sibling figures are: Barbara who is the big sister figure and acts like one and Damian who is indisputably his annoying little brother but why is Jason seen as her brother? Because of the banter? That doesn't immediately make you a sibling, you know friends to lovers and rivals to lovers and enemies to lovers also have banter right?

Their respective most popular ships in the past: for Tim I already made a post about it and Artemis... I totally understand Jason 🥵😍, between her and Ravager I prefer her because Rose seems to be more like a very good friend with very sexy benefits but with Artemis there's more emotional connection... But my issue with her is the immortality factor (i mean the fact that she won't die of old age, she being hundreds of years old I don't care) and that Artemis deep down has too much "independent" Vibes, I mean that I don't see her wanting the long term relationship, she can't have it anyway because of her immortality. And there was the problem that it was perceived as another Amazon-bat attempt in a "trinity"(with bizarro) and as much as some people liked wonderbat (not me, it was a bit awkward) in the end it doesn't work well (look at Damian and WonderGirl Cassie in DCeased).

Some sort of fantasy about an "age gap", this one is ridiculous. Some people believe that Jason is super old for Stephanie... Well in that case Stephanie was way super old for Tim too 🙄, I'll just get to the point: Jason died at 15 and only lasted dead 6 months, Tim became Robin at 13 and Stephanie is one year older than Tim, they met when he was 14 and she was 15 so... Do the math, is being one year older than her TOO OLD??🤡 one year and half maybe? If we count the 6 month dead. I mean I know he sometimes looks older because of the way they draw him, like a huge muscle chunk and sometimes he has a beard (ajj I hate beards). And yes, I know they changed their ages currently but at much he is only TWO years older than her and she is over 18 or 19 so... Like I said the age gap argument is a fairy tale.

"They never or barely interacted before", just what kind of argument is this?🤡Do you want Steph to only be attached forever to the Batgirls and Tim or just be alone? Jason has been more allowed than her to interact with other people, how unfair but the point is... they'll have to start someday don't they!? Or just because they barely interacted in the past it means they can't interact more in the future? Is really that unbelievable that they could start hanging out more often and bonding? Is that weird? Have you never suddenly talked with someone you know but you barely interacted before and realized you had more in common with them than you thought? That's something extremely normal to happen! I don't see how it would be out of place with Jason and Steph 🤷‍♀️.

Now let's see how this ship started and it's potential:

The ship existed before they actually met, people already shipped the possibility: the two failed dead Robins and (yes I'm counting Steph as dead because her dead was meant to be permanent), but they never met before the new 52 reboot and when it actually happened... It was a classic not very relevant banter, the second time he was impressed with her with how she dealt with the Scarecrow and after that there was barely interaction... But then we got these exactly interactions that made me ship them very hard, passionately and strongly in Task Force Z:

ok, I'm an anime consumer, this kind of tiny details affect me very seriously, when you are used to see relationships in comics where the couple simply jump to sexy time right away and suck face hard and fall in love or feel attracted instantly we forget about the little things that makes us blush with yearning... you know, the moment something changes in how you see someone even if you still didn't noticed it and you just feel funny and don't know why. In this comic panels the relationship is not romantic and hasn't even begin being romantic, they aren't in love or are feeling attraction yet and that still remains to be seen but what is happening here is a change, is a start! Is the beginning and they way he reacts to her really get me fangirl squealing LOOK AT HIS FACE!!! Specially when she touches his wounded cheek... You can't convince me that this guy isn't touch starved and not so used to receive affectionate touching 😭, suddenly after a big beating he received Kindness from someone unexpected but that we all know... relates to him better than anyone in the bat-family but the best part is that she isn't there to just pamper him a little she just decided to have a nicer approach to him, she gave him coffee, she treated his face wound and she gave him a talk of tough love, she doesn't take his side 100% but she let's him know she is still a friend and then the last pages of the issue:

She was the only one who wanted to say goodbye because once again she understands him and because of that she is more tolerant and forgiving towards his actions than the others while still not being dumb and knowing he still is up to trouble and again... The little touches always get me, the way she caresses his hand with the plane ticket gets me screaming more than their hug 😭😭😭 ah this is also their first hug! And I'm kinda pissed because the height is WRONG! Jason is taller than her! It shouldn't look like she is hugging Tim😒.

All right now my official points about why I love this potential relationship:

This is very important, this needs to be a SLOW BURN, I know jaystephers, I know you want kisses and hot moments but NOPE, that can't happen anytime soon, first we need a lot of little details and little touches, emotional conversations that don't end in kissing but in hugging, a lot of little meaningful looks and gestures, we need the rest of the fans that are not convinced, to get used to see them together interacting but not specifically obviously romantically, it has to be wholesome but we can't jump and shove the ship down people's throats, that's a turn off. Keep in mind that usually DC writers write love like a switch on and off, look at what they did with Nightwing! Just how many true loves has he had? A lot of bullcrap text about how much he is in love and obsessed with every new girl and not to mention Tim (let's hope he sticks to his NPC cardboard walking bisexuality proof boyfriend and stops fooling around with Steph, our girl deserves better). A new love that has hit hard has to be believable, the potential with their personalities gives for a lot to work with: Jason is a tough bad moody broody boy who is actually very emotional and sensitive and so affection starved he fell into Damian trap when he hugged him, Jason just melted into the hug (before he got hit with a taser, Damian you little shit...) and thats where Stephanie comes, Steph is someone completely open, eager, sweet, foward and unapologetic with her affections and here Mister pride and prejudice lover Jason has a romantic side. Jaystephers I'm serious, this can't be rushed, absolutely not and I'm being insistent because I came from reading an insane amount of jaysteph fanfics that almost all of them end up being porn with plot, I mean really good plot and also very skilled written porn... but still! "BONK" 🔨 go to horny jail! That can't happen in the comics 😂😂. With a slow burn unconvinced people will have enough time to process just how good is this ship. Simply it has to become a Romantic friendship before a potential romance and then an actual romance.

They have come a long way on their personalities, currently they aren't the same as they were before so if they started now it wouldn't be like the chaotic kind of toxic mess that it was Timsteph, because at that time they were insecure and irrational teenagers, honestly the writers messed them up a lot and I guess there's still a risk a new writer will fuck them up too but I'd like to think that if some writer goes for it they really have to like this ship and will try not to make it a complete toxic or cringy or a messed up disaster, if a writer chooses to do it I want to think is because they saw how much in common they have, how much their personalities are compatible, how good they would work together and how much they can relate to each other. What I mean is that there is a background where they can start even though they were never that close before and is all starting now, there is a lot of material to work! They don't have to make up things they only have to let it flow naturally, just put them together in a room and let them interact. I mean, right now he is a grumpy bad boy and Steph is a perky ballbuster, let's see how that goes.

The potential Romanticism of this couple is something really underrated, the two failures as Robins that walked on the same path, they own to have yet the "talk" About their respectives deaths and the subject about how Steph failed as a Robin because of being a reminder of Jason, they should talk about had him not died he would have been the one meeting her instead of Tim and wonder how things would have been then... They should team up more often and strengthen their bond, the need to build a romantic friendship, a dynamic that could drive us crazy and by the time they start flirting is going to be the BEST!! Just remember how Steph flirts shamelessly on duty 🤭🤭 but with Tim it was a bit boring, he always turns her down because he is such a good serious soldier 😑 and gets mad but with Jason? Unless he is specifically grumpy about something he would totally flirt back and totally flirt in front of villains while fighting until the villains can't take it anymore and just ask to be knocked out 😂😂😂 and also the chance to piss off Tim is just too good, I need to see it 😂😂😂. I mean, one I love about most Jaysteph fanfics is that Tim is always fucking pissed and grossed out about Jason dating Steph but normally is never about jealousy he is just overprotective (but casually they also add a jealous Damian who can't help but criticize Steph's taste in men 😂😂, I think is canon that he had a bit of a platonic crush on her when they met).

They have a lot of similarities but they aren't exactly the same, the things they have in common actually was used as an argument against it saying that just like with Babs he only had in common being a joker's victim, people thinks "dying" Is the only thing he has in common with Steph and they are very wrong: They both are members of Gotham's lowest class, both had drug addict mothers and criminal fathers, also Jason's real mom betrayed him and sold him out to the Joker and Stephanie's dad orchestrated a kidnapping of her and in the new 52 he kidnapped her and her killed her (even if he didn't meant to) and had to get revived by Lazarus pit goo, the way they died was also caused by the same stubborn need of proving themselves to Batman, doing something extremely reckless, also I have to point out that Steph has been compared to Dick, Barbara, Tim and Jason but it was her similarities with Jason what doomed her before DC decided to revive her, the writers did a messed up job with the principal reasons Batman rejected her so adamantly at some point but the principal one was that she reminded him of Jason and ironically he trying to prevent her from getting the same fate was what drove her to act and ending up like Jason and they both were officially the first black sheeps of the bat-family. But even with all that their personalities are both opposites and complimentary, I mean that despite having a similar trauma, when Steph came "back from the death" (The first "death") she became more positive and hopeful than before, she used to be more cynical and angry and unlike Jason whose resurrection was just as traumatic as his death and was not in his right mind, Steph returned to Gotham to once again try to belong and be a proper vigilante, she wanted to keep trying and do the right thing and fight to be accepted unlike Jason who at first he only wanted revenge. Steph can understand where he is coming from and be more indulgent to him than the rest of the family but at the same time she would stop him from going too far, she has the bravery to fight off trauma like the fear toxin and the will to never give up, so I see how she would never give up on Jason.

And don't you dare give me crap about this ship being absurd or something because this is not even the most out of the blue couple DC has ever done! So, I keep seeing people saying that Jason is Bruce’s favorite child, and the only one that was actually like a son to Bruce. (aside from Damian) Also that just because Dick and Bruce were partners/brothers too, it means that Dick isn’t really like Bruce’s son. How Jason and Bruce are each other’s favorite and Dick wishes he could be Bruce’s son (basically it just gets worse and worse jekskenjske)

I don't know where this frankly insane take comes from but whenever me, my mutuals, and pretty much anyone in this corner of the dc fandom sees a post like it we roll our eyes to the heavens. to put it simply the idea that jason is bruce's favorite and the only one he actually loved like a son is a complete fucking lie lol.

first of all to claim that bruce didn't love dick like a son is......I mean. let's just say people saying that have probably never read a comic with bruce and dick before. literally the number one thing to know about these characters is that the love bruce and dick have for each other can be seen from outer space. they have never been normal about each other. bruce raised dick since he was eight. they are thee og codependent father-son partners 'we saved each other we are pack bonded for life if anything happened to him i'd kill everyone in this room and then myself' duo. I mean... there is nuance to be had where they had a very complicated tangled up hard-to-label relationship that had elements of being father & son, elements of being brothers, and ofc partners as batman and robin but that is a function of their relationship being TOO crazy and close not the other way around lol. it is patently true that bruce and dick know each other better than anyone else in the world. it is pretty much true that if you're going to play the favorites game, it's hard to deny that dick is bruce's favorite. that's his eldest his most trusted his saving grace his person who understands him better than anyone. I could pull like an endless amount of panels as evidence that dick was bruce's favorite. there are so many 'dick is the only thing i did right' 'i only feel pride when i look at nightwing' etc etc. dick is his child in every way that matters basically

- Mafin rewatch (Sueños de Libertad)

Watching the de la Reina siblings is a hoot. It's all so deliciously dysfunctional. Damian's three porcelain dolls, all dressed up and filled with generational trauma. How could that not be fun to watch?! I enjoy that Marta is the action oriented one of them. The boys bicker, but she refuses to play their game, instead tries for a solution and an action forward. It’s notable that both brothers turn to her as if her agreement, her word actually holds sway. They’re already making a point of this being a man’s world, but these men, even if it’s a means to play out each other, hang on her word and give it weight.

I’m kind of sad Jesús is such a right villain, because I enjoy him and Marta together. They play off each other well and you instantly get the nuances between them, making it super easy to envision how things were before Andrés return. The way they’ve kept that business afloat, probably stood side by side against their father on a number of occasions. I feel like they’ve kept each other alert, maybe a bit too guarded, but also with a sense of mutual respect despite all of the other muddled feelings of jealousy and resentment and old-fashioned sibling rivalry. In a world where Jesús wasn't such an evil man I think this could have been one of my favourite relationships on the show, if they'd taken the time to develop it more. Especially in the way she yields to him in the beginning and how her character growth comes into play later on.

Carmen is the boss you want to have before she’s even anyone’s boss. The way she is straightforward and stands up to Marta for her own and her fellow workers sake and safety. I wish she was my workplace Union rep. She’s such a competent lady and I'd gladly line up behind. But why throw fucking caveman Tasio around her neck like a noose I’ll never understand. Though I’m getting ahead of myself, or ahead of the show at least.

I mean seriously, what’s up with that opening credit?! Of all the characters, they get a two shot. In bed. The two of them who at this point in time have nothing to tie them together. A flimsy string of connection through fathers, through work. I wasn’t here from the start, but I assume they were shipped from day one? Granted by my arguing maybe Gaspar and Tasio should be shipped too, but at least those two aren't in bed together. And no, don't enlighten me if there are people who do ship them. Some things I'd rather go through life without knowing. This would be one of those.

Lol, Luz is so no-nonsense as she saves Damian's life. “Stop praying and let me stab him with a giant needle, you rich fools!”. Her and Begona sharing the medical field and a bit of empathy with each other is nice too. An ensemble cast that is balanced between men and women seldom leave room for a lot of female friendship, but this one does. I appreciate that.

Fina establishing from the very beginning what she thinks of men, and especially the fool ones like Carmen's deadbeat boyfriend. I feel you. And I am in love with the way she throughout all the episodes to date will be used as a way of voicing what the tired lesbian feminist in all of us wishes she could say, out loud.

If trolls exist, you know like proper giant ones, the kind that can be mistaken for a mountain, covered in moss and trees and then suddenly just opens its eyes and stands up to stretch. You know the kind of trolls you think of when listening to Grieg's In the Mountain King's Hall - yeah those. I imagine if they existed then they'd sound exactly like a sickly Don Damian, like a melodic stone avalanche. That said I’ve never envision mountain trolls to sound Spanish before now. But maybe that’s on me.

Joaquín is a bit of an ass, calling Fina (and the rest of them) lazy - my eyes are narrowed. It wasn’t actually something he developed when he got on my shitlist by flirting with the secretary while having a cute as a button wife or pointing a gun at Marta. Apparently the assery was a pre-existing condition. It’s interesting though that Luis is the one talking about taking over the company, yet he still comes off as the decent one of them.

“You don’t notice the boys?”- Petra, you blonde little snake, don’t call my Fina out like that. Maybe we're allowed to know she's a lesbian, but don't flaunt it in front of the entire canteen like that. It’s kind of funny though how Fina is so clear about Luis not being her type, yet there are so many common denominators between him and Marta both in personality and in physicality (except of course the most important one in this case, their sex).

I know he’s supposed to be one of the good guys, but honestly, Andrés is a bit of a douchebag, isn’t he?! Or maybe that's a bit harsh, but he comes across as pretty smarmy. He's like what the wall behind your stove would be if anthropomorphised, kind of greasy, kind of sticky and in constant need of being hosed down. But yay for not letting the roof drop on your employees, I guess.

So in the new Batman and Robin issue #7 Nika's sister making an appearance, got me thinking of other possibilities for sibling characters to come back.

Mostly I’m thinking about Respawn since he is Joshua Williamson's own character. And He made Respawn appeared in the last issue of Robin(2021), he also brought back Mara in that run too (just some appearance in the later issue).

And now Joshua Williamson is writing Batman and Robin, so naturally he can bring some characters back in this run. He had said in an interview that he might have figured out a way(try) to bring back Maya.

Throwback to 2022 of this old wip/art I made, is about what I think the emo teens of Lazarus squad dynamic would look like.

I imagine Nika and Respaw are irritated/tolerate with each other but would stay for Damian because Nika is Damian's girlfriend and they want to stick together. Meanwhile, Damian likes to include his half-brother in some fun activities (Respawn is acting reluctant bc of his own issues but he actually likes to have friends and feel include).

I haven’t finished this art bc I was going to add more wips (with other characters like Rose and Hawke) to make it a post. I didn't finish this art back then bc I was afraid Talia fans would be mad at me for drawing Respawn.

Trust me, I hate that Talia gets associated with Deathstroke like this, but I think Respawn is a confused/mistreated teen character and Damian (bless his heart and soul) still wants to be his brother regarding the whole mess. I will explain/talk more about my thoughts on Respawn as a character and his situations once I finish these drawings and get ready to post them.

Writing/typing words is harder than drawing for me personally. Drawing is like channeling my energy into a picture and forming an atmosphere and hopefully people will understand what thoughts and feelings I was trying to convey. Writing is using more brain powers to choose the correct and cohesive words, so people would not misunderstand what I'm talking about. Especially when English is not my first language, and even so I normally don't talk(write) much in my mother tongue either…(I'm not a quick thinker, it took me a longer time to think things through, writing literally exhausted me physically and mentally more than drawing.)

It doesn't mean I don't enjoy writing, it's just not my first choice to convey thoughts… but considering I can't draw everything I have in my mind and it takes even longer time to finish any art, I just need to write down things first from now on. Tumblr is the only place I can think of that has this longer text feature blog post and I'm more familiar with this platform format. So I will still be here posting my fan content.

I’m really confused.

You posted that Damijons make Damian out to be mean, abrasive and ‘feral’ but you tweeted today or a couple days ago that Damian is genuinely horrible to Jon, so much so that Clark should keep Damian, a child, he understands is very traumatized, away from Jon.

You also preferenced it by saying that you love Damian so you know that your statement was inherently anti-Damian…? So you dislike Damian? You don’t have to like Damian but you can’t say one thing and then the other. Is it bad to say that Damian is mean and abrasive? Or is Damian so mean and abrasive that he should be kept away from Jon? Which is it?

Also, your mutuals were agreeing with you. People who also often kind of allude to the idea that Damian feels nothing for Jon and they lack chemistry. Why insinuate Damian is emotionless when Super Sons literally has multiple Damian focused plot points where Jon gets harmed and Damian freaks out; proving he cares for him.

So do you really think Damian should be seperated from Jon, like they shouldn’t be friends?

The important part of the tweet you're referencing is the "IN SUPER SONS" one. It's also important to note that I made this complaint five issues into my re-read, so it was more of a flippant observation, not yet a proper critique of the run or Tomasi's writing.

As far a actual critique goes, at no point has that been about Damian as a character or Jon and Damian's friendship as a whole, because I love both of those when they're written well, it has always, ALWAYS been about how Tomasi writes them in these books.

This is how Damian acts towards Jon (again, in Super Sons) before Clark says he wants them to spend more time together, not including moments where Jon gave as good as he got, but even in those, Damian is pretty consistently portrayed as the instigator and Jon as the one retaliating.

He is acting horribly and even after this occasionally like he doesn't care for or respect Jon as a person and Clark knowing where this behaviour comes from doesn't mean he should want his kid exposed to someone who regularly insults and disrespects him.

Again, though, none of this is because of who Damian is as a character but because of how Tomasi perceives and writes him. His Damian's smart and he likes to banter and Tomasi sucks at writing smart kids and friendly banter, at least in the Super Sons books, so Damian being a little catty or mean, which is in line with is character in my opinion and would be fine, turns into him throwing Jon off of buildings. That's not frenemy behaviour, that's just a general disregard for Jon's well-being.

I've also at no point denied there were sweet moments in these books; there are and plenty of them, but that just means it bugs me even more when Tomasi goes back to having Damian slap Jon around. Again, it's inconsistent and I don't like it. Which I also said on Twitter but that may have been after you sent this ask:

Both Jon and Damian are characterized very inconsistently throughout Super Sons and Adventures of the Super Sons (I haven't reached Challenge on my re-read yet, so for now it's excluded from this criticism). Damian deeply cares for Jon in one issue, says he'll protect him, has fun with him, gets mad when anyone else hurts him but he keeps going back to slapping him around, verbally and physically, and this is never portrayed as any kind of internal struggle, there's no "I care for this kid I don't want to care for so I'm lashing out at him" (which frankly, at this point in his development, isn't even a conflict he should have but at least it would be something), it's just. He's good friends with Jon in one issue and thinks it's funny to have a statue of his dad beat him up in the next and I don't particularly enjoy that.

Super Sons is just not all that, man, I'm sorry.

Tomasi writes Damian well in the parts of Batman and Robin (2011) I've read (had to stop because I was getting too emotional lol), but that might be because that one's co-written by Patrick Gleason, who wrote the Damian book (Robin: Son of Batman), as far as I'm concerned. Robin (2021) I liked, too, and I hear the current Batman and Robin is delivering some good Damian, too, as is his new Black Label book. So yeah, I like Damian. I just don't like how Tomasi writes him in Super Sons specifically.

As for the Jon and Damian friendship, it's very well written in Superman: Son of Kal-El, they're fun in Batman and Superman: Battle of the Super Sons, the Dynomutt - Super Sons issue in the DC Meets Hanna-Barbera book is neat, as are Trick or Treat and Back to School, they're adorable in that one Holiday Special and I like Tomasi's Superman & Robin Special, once again weirdly pointing toward this being a Super Sons specific issue. So yeah, I like their friendship. I just don't like how Tomasi writes it in Super Sons specifically.

And going all the way back to your first point, yeah, certain DMJNs/Super Sons fans DO portray Damian as a horrible feral demon. Probably because all they've read are the Super Sons books, which, I think I've made that clear, are not the best books to get a solid grasp on Damian. That critique was about how fandom (and not just the Super Sons fandom, either, the Batfandom, too) perceives and portrays him and I think I've done a decent job at not falling into that same trap with my fanart, so I'm not sure why you bring that up.

I don't think Damian is some horrible irredeemable character from hell. Never have. I adore him. Here's some proof.

As for my mutuals, I don't speak for them, but both of the people agreeing with that particular tweet have previously talked about liking Damian and his dynamic with Jon, their critique, just as mine, seems to be usually aimed at the way Tomasi depicts him and them in Super Sons, where, again Damian does often seem like he doesn't care for Jon. Except for when he cares a lot. Which, again, isn't his fault, since he's lines on paper and Tomasi's the one making him act this way. Which brings me back to the inconsistency being what bugs me most, so I'm just talking in circles now.

Where Do I Belong Chapter 9

Alya cursed, pointing at Nino before spinning around and marching into the bathroom.

Nino immediately got the hint, turning to face the guy and explain their side.

“Okay, so Alya is going to calm down and then come back, I’ll be telling you what we know for now, is that cool, dude?” He asked, fanning himself with his hat.

Nino waited until he nodded before speaking, wanting to make sure he was good to keep going.

“I’m Nino by the way, Alya is my girlfriend and Marinette is one of our best friends. Adrien is another one of our friends but you’ll have to meet him later, he kinda went missing just recently.” Nino said, shaking hands with the guy.

“It seems a lot has happened recently, I am Damian, Jon is my best friend and, to our understanding your friend’s long-lost sibling.” Damian told him, properly introducing the two boys now that it was a little calmer.

Nino nodded, agreeing with Damian’s assessment as he slouched in his chair.

“You have no idea, dude. Anyway, Mari’s parents, Tom and Sabine, got in a really bad crash a couple weeks ago. They were doing a catering order for the bakery when they were involved in a hit and run, they didn’t make it out unfortunately.” He started.

Nino told him everything, how Marinette had come to live with her grandfather, how Adrien and the woman who took care of him had disappeared without a trace, how there had been some school drama to solve.

How strong Marinette had tried to be throughout all of it.

Both boys compared their sides of what had happened and came to the mutual conclusion that Marinette’s Grandpa Rolland was a massive asshole.

Alya had still been in the bathroom by the time he had finished his side of the story, so they switched topics.

Nino told Damian all about Hawkmoth, what he did to people, when he started doing it, and what it was like living with his influence surrounding the city.

Damian shared his experiences with similar issues in Gotham, explaining what it was like in his city and how he could understand what it was like living with a villain like that to some extent.

Although it was comforting to know that Marinette would at least have someone nearby who could understand what it was like, Nino was a little nervous about possibly sending Marinette to such a dangerous city, which he told Damian.

“Don’t worry, Marinette will not be living in Gotham. Jon and his family live in Metropolis, though Metropolis is very close to Gotham, it is entirely different from my city.” Damian tried to reassure him.

“Okay, but isn’t Metropolis like, 20 minutes away? I know that isn’t far for Americans, how different could it be?” Nino asked, eyes shooting to the bed as Marinette rolled over, flinging her arm our and hitting her brother in the face.

He didn’t so much as flinch.

“The leading consensus is that Gotham is cursed.” Damian said, drawing Nino’s attention back to him.

Nino blinked a few times, trying to gauge whether he was serious or not.

“Gotham is-?”

“Cursed? Yes.”

“The whole-?”

“Yes, the entire city as a whole.”

“Why do you still live there?!” Nino asked incredulously.

“We are too stubborn to move. It’s a cursed city but it is our cursed city.” Damian offered as an explanation.

Nino went to open his mouth but shut it, remembering how often he had had this same argument with his cousins about Paris.

“Y’know what? That’s fair.” He settled on, nodding to Alya as she finally walked out the bathroom. Her hair and the collar of her shirt was wet, like she had been splashing water on her face to calm down.

Alya took a seat just as someone knocked on the door.

“Oh, is that your dad?” Nino asked, looking to Damian.

Damian nodded in affirmation, standing up to answer the door.

Two men walked inside, carrying bags of take out with them.

“Damian?” One of the men asked, setting the bags on the table and turning to face him.

“They’re asleep at the moment, Jon fell asleep after we got here and Marinette fainted, from what I understand however, she should be completely fine after some rest.” He told them, gesturing to the bed.

“Oh, well that’s a relief. At least they are getting some sleep.” One of them men said, setting down the bags he had been carrying.

The same man stepped forward, holding out his hand first to Nino, then to Alya.

“Hello, sorry that we had to meet under these circumstances, I’m Clark.” He said smiling at the two.

“Alya, this is my boyfriend Nino. We’re Marinette’s friends.” Alya explained, taking the initiative now that she had calmed down some.

Clark nodded, his smile faltering for a second as he cast a glance towards the bed.

“So… Her name is Marinette?” He asked, no longer looking at the two teens before him.

“Yeah, it is. Are you her bio-dad?” Nino asked, casting a glance to the two passed out together on the bed.

The man nodded, pursing his lips before walking over to the chest at the end of the bed.

He opened it, pulling out a blanket and setting it on top of the bed.

He moved up to the two, peeling Jon out of his hoodie and taking off his shoes before moving onto Marinette.

He hesitated at first, almost deciding against it before he carefully did the same for her. Gently taking off her coat and shoes, setting them alongside Jon’s and laying the spare blanket over the both of them.

Marinette groaned, causing him to freeze, worried that he had woken her up. She shifted a little, kicking one leg out of the blanket before settling again, causing Clark to heave a sigh of relief.

Alya had been watching the entire time, sure they may seem like good people, but she knew that looks could be deceiving. Alya didn’t look away until he had moved away from her friend, making sure to keep her friend safe from any danger that these strangers could bring.

“Well, we know Jon and Damian’s names and who they are, sorta,” She started, turning to face the other man in the room. “-And Clark just introduced himself, but who are you?”

The man looked up from where he had been setting out the food, walking over and holding his hand out for a handshake.

“I apologize, my name is Bruce Wayne, I am Damian’s father and Clark’s friend.” He said, shaking her hand.

Alya’s mouth fell open, just now recognizing him for who he was.

“Bruce Wayne?!”

None of this is helped by Bruce's reluctance to use words, because that is how they all learned batspeak. After the death of his parents Bruce had a long non-verbal phase where he communicated solely through body language. Alfred, with his background in the military and in theater, learns to understand Bruce and starts mirroring him to ease communication. While B restarted using words a few years later, he and Alfred still mostly default to a complicated collection of grunts, head tilts, micro expressions and posture to talk to each other.

When Dick came into the family, he already had lots of experience talking to people with whom he doesn't share a language through gesturing and adapts before Bruce and Alfred can meaningfully change their behaviour. Jason learned to quickly read people for signs of both compassion and aggression and is quickly able to extrapolate. Tim spend many hours analysing the non-verbal communication of the bats, long before he became part of the bat family. Damian was taught to read and analyse people in the LOA. Cass is incredibly glad thatv her new family is able to conciously speak her native language. Babs and Steph figure most of it out on their own and get told/taucht the rest by those who are part of the household.

Everyone has their own dialect of batspeak, and everyone has learned to mirror everybody elses dialects. This way they are in constant communication, even the verbose supplement every conversation, argument and fight with 5 additional layers of meaning through their body language, facial expressions, tone and pitch.

During an argument during the process of reintegrating Jason, that stays strictly idealogical verbally:

Jason: declares he is too disconnected from the family to ever return, that bond is irrevocably broken by switching to full Gotham Alley slang with a pronounced arabic accent (specifically the dialect spoken in Nanda Parbat), drawling a word the exact way Jon Chill did, tilting his head 41° degrees with is bat for "my patience with you is running out and I will get violent if you push me on this" (normally used to coordinate monolugue interruptions among each other) and shifting his stance to draw attention to his guns

Dick: adjusts his shoulders to the way Bruce typically carries himself, that Jason has taken to mirroring ever since he bulked up enough to share B's physique, back when none of them even knew he was back alive, talks in the weird mix of bristol and alley Gotham Bruce still talks in ever since his kids started influincing his speech patterns, shifts his stance to the side in a way that leaves him open from the side unless he has a trusted fighting partner protecting his flank (simultaneously daring Jason to use this opportunity to attack and invinting him back in), fixes his face into the expression of brotherly affection Damian expresses when he talks about his big brother from the league and changes his arms into a guard that Jason taught Tim. - *that's bullshit and you know it*

This entire exchange was mutually understood and took a total of 4 seconds.

Combine this with the the amount insider knowledge they reference when talking to each other, the many languages all of them speak, mix and switch between, and the assumtion of stalking providing never given context and background knowledge, and any inter-bat conversation is neigh incomprehensible to an outsider.

And because Bruce shows the majority of his feelings when raising them in batspeak, the kids too have an easier time talking about their emotions in bat. This means that they only say their anger, because fear, worry, pride, approval, gratefulness, love, apologies, regret, etc. are expressed in bat.

Another weird love language: non-lethal assasination attempts. Foods and drinks spiked with sleeping drugs and mild poisons. Glitter and gas bombs smuggled into one another's possesion. Random attacks and ambushes everywhere. Sabotaged training equiptment.

All of this combined makes their relationships seem extremely unhealthy from an outside perspective.

Any other Gothamite will recognise this as an expression of worry and training: "I care about you, so will help you keep your survival skills sharp. I will make sure you are prepared for any danger you might encounter. I love you." Gotham parents start this with their children as soon as possible. Everyone was so proud of Damian when he understood this, dialed back the attempts on Tim's life and started attacking everyone.

Other Heros have yet to notice the difference and are very worried about how murderous, invasive and emotionally unavailable their teammate's family is and how quick to forgive their bat friends are.

Meanwhile the bats are dealing with a strong sense of isolation, since their teams only understand 10% of what they are communicating (even when they try to speak Outsider) and their signs of care are always misinterpreted.

Love the idea of the batfam all being equally unhinged like Tim calls dick every two days with “why’d you take the cameras I use to stalk you down :(“ Dick is always placing trackers on everyone, Bruce just fucking shows up and watches his kids go about their daily lives, Jason’s got eyes all over the city to ping him if someone matching his families description pops up, Barbra is always listening and watching like love that shit
