I cannot explain the anger I feel anytime I read a panel where a character we are supposed to side with (except Bruce, because he's a self-loathing champion) says that Bruce should never be a father.

Batman, Bruce Wayne, was created in 1939, and he didn't even last two years before his creator gave him a child. In his long existence, Batman has only existed for LESS THAN TWO YEARS before he was made a father. Dick wasn't adopted because of the laws at the time against bachelor adopting, but Bruce was clear in the comics that this was his son. Old comics are a bit silly at time, and abuse was acceptable parenting in this time period (spanking and slapping, which Dick has been the subject of both), but it's clear that Bruce is meant to be a loving father. Dick is his pride and joy. If anything happens to him, Bruce is threatening everyone. He will kill everyone in the room than himself if his boy dies. He has huge paintings and pictures of the boy in and out of costume around his house because he loves him so much. When Dick is mad and threatens to leave, Bruce is like "I would prefer to lose both my arms and legs than lose you".

And it continued after that. When Dick leaves for college, Bruce is acting like it's a funeral. He's a dad realizing his baby is all grown up now and leaving home, and it's breaking his heart. He cried when child protective service took Dick from him, and when they took Jason. Both time, which are separated by decades, he was willing to throw away everything he had just to get his son back. Dick was the center of his universe, and with Jason, it was extended to his kids in general.

Batman, Bruce Wayne, being a dad is as important to his character as the murder of his parents. It's him learning to move on from this traumatic event, building a new family after losing his, giving children what he didn't have. It's linked to his parent's murder. If you are going to take that away, you can take away their murder too while you're at it.

This man would not survive without being a father, that's how he was written. It's a core characteristic of his character. Bob Kane is rolling in his grave from the audacity of those writers. "Batman shouldn't be a father" in your dreams, which are my nightmares.

I genuinely believe Federico is like 90% of the reason why the central themes of emotion, humanity vs seaborn, and human connection actually work, because it would be so easy to completely ruin the message by making it a vehicle for typical "love is what makes us humans" "if you don't feel love and emotion exactly like everyone else does you're not an ACTUAL human with a SOUL!" nonsense, like to the point I'm also anxious I might end up sounding like that every time I try analyzing the seaborn conflict in any way, but thanks to Fede being written the way he is while having such a central role in Zwillingsturme and being so close with and important to Arturia we know that when she says "it has to include everyone" and when the game falls on praising human qualities and the power of human connection they don't mean "everyone who can feel normal human emotion :)" "everyone but they're gonna need to become human" but simply everyone, no one left behind, no one erased. The focus on destroying the barriers between people exists as an answer to oppression and discrimination, to bring humanity together so they can work as a whole to face adversity, not because not feeling empathy the same way Arturia does is "wrong". Even during the piano scene when Fede is shown as unable to understand why music, why art move people the way it does, despite it being a focal point of everything about Arturia and everything about the humans who stand against the Seaborn, it's never presented as a failing on his part, never presented as him being fundamentally incompatible with humanity - in fact that scene is where he learns how to approach emotion from his own angle in his own way as a form of data and it's when he grows as a person and becomes able to use it to better get Arturia despite his difficulty in conveying and "feeling" emotion. He doesn't get Sankta empathy, he values logical understanding over emotional connection, he's joked about from other characters as being more like a robot than a human, he's deliberately written as being an opposite to Arturia's unrestrained empathy, and yet he is the protagonist to Arturia's antagonist role, he is the one who understood her the most and who could support her in the finale, he's the one outsider who cared the most about fixing things in the Monastery while the "proper" Sankta were all busy dealing with their own problems or actively worsening things (hi Oren). His character arc doesn't have anything to do with him starting to "get" emotions like "real people" do but just about starting to ask questions, to find a way forward when his strict adherence to logical reasoning fails him, to interpret why he does what he does and feel the way he does, to understand why things happens and why people act certain ways, and in quite a few scenes that's precisely why he could reach a conclusion others couldn't.

His biggest scene in Hortus involves him refusing to accept Clement's position that just because the only flower left from his garden he had a deep emotional attachment to was a bit damaged and not perfect the way he grew all the others to be, the way he wanted it to be, then its survival is meaningless.

Just because Clement couldn't see the worth in the flower's existence it doesn't mean there was none for anyone.

Just like Federico was the one chosen by the Law amidst countless "perfect" Sankta well accustomed to their supernatural Empathy.

Ok, reread of scum villain vol. 2 has been accomplished. Here are my thoughts and just things I wanted to note down (disclaimer: make sure to read these knowing the important context that liushen is my favorite ship lol)

I can't get over the Shen-Mu-Liu trio. Those are SQQ's BOYS and watching them interact is very fun. I also love that Mu Qingfang is medicine-pilled in the way that Shen Qingqiu is monster-pilled. Little did we know LQG is actually the most normal of the three

Shen "im just here to cause problems" Qingqiu saying "I know to get my way all i have to do is bat my pretty eyelashes at YQY and he will fold like a house of cards"

SQQ basically telling LQG that he's so strong so he must row the boat, and LQG is just absolutely FUMING because of how attracted he is to SQQ

SQQ referring to LQG as gege ah my heart

More of SQQ causing problems by trying stick Yang Yixuan onto LQG, which I love because you KNOW that in his grief post-Hua Yue City LQG went "fucking WATCH me"

Ngl I've read enough fanfic to realize that people don't really capture LQG's full personality. The usually make him so shy and tsundere that he's barely able to get a word in (Lan Zhan gets similar treatment) but no, he's just as catty as the rest of them

Qi Qingqi's eyebrows have now been brought up for a second time and it screams gender envy to me. Why are you as a "cis man" admiring a women's eyebrows so thoughtfully? So much to where it's the first thing you bring up about her appearance?

I'm actually such a simp for Liu Qingge, i'm literally highlighting every mention of him and every word he speaks. I did not appreciate the Liuber my first time reading. He's also so incredibly tsundere "huff puff i can't believe you can't even ride your sword...get on"

Ugh I actually cried while reading the big confrontation. This did not happen my first read, but man it just got me. Also the very subtle POV switch that happens so we don't get any insight into SQQ's thoughts as he prepares to self-detonate

Mushroom Shen Qingqiu!!!! My Beloved!!!!!!! Def one of my favorite parts of the whole series. I think there are so many ways to play around with this character (hence my AU) but also there's this degree of freedom about it where even his internal dialogue is much more loose and less concerned with acting the part

to start, i'm sorry to ridley and friends and the ventblogs for not handling things better. i've been doing... bad, to put it lightly, ever since the document dropped. i've been unpacking nearly 8 years of constant abuse every day, and i've started taking it out on others. i have noticeably gotten worse than i used to be. which is an unfortunate part of healing. and i regret forcing the resulting harshness of my pain onto others, especially some minors. it wasn't your guys' fault for the things that happened to me, you shouldn't have been subjected to my ire. it was wrong. so again i am sincerely sorry for that.

and no, forgiveness is not my goal, i don't want anyone to demand i be forgiven or for anyone to feel obligated to forgive me. i don't have any problem getting mad at people who think it's okay to harass other people in my honor- it's not okay. it's never okay. and i'm really sorry that people did that. i'm not sure exactly what was sent to people originally, it's really hard for me to see/find things with how many people have me blocked, so i'm sorry if that apology feels too vague. but i am specifically sorry that people tried to blame ridley for me wanting to kms. it... was because of that situation, yes, but i don't want to put that on a kid, and no one else should either. especially if you're not me. why are you accusing anyone if you're not me. it's not your place. stop it.

i'm also sorry for bringing up kitty genovese. it was NEVER my intention to trivialize a rape+murder, i had hoped that would be obvious, but i saw that it wasn't and became angrier instead of calmly explaining what i meant. i only referenced kitty genovese in regards to the bystander effect- i know many in this fandom are young, so it's possible people googled her and saw a rape+murder case and took what i said very wrong. which i understand. if you don't know, kitty genovese is the main example used in every study of something called "the bystander effect", that's why i brought up the case. i felt the bystander effect applied to what i was experiencing. but it would've been better to just say the bystander effect, rather than assume everyone knew who kitty genovese was and the studies that stemmed from her case. i'm sorry again for all of that.

it was never ever my intention to make ridley feel attacked/endangered by me. i was just really, really scared, when i saw that ridley was sharing sugarydeceits/sweetfuls/lopsys lies about me, and people were believing them.

sugarydeceit has been harassing my partner and i for months- over half a year, actually, and has a history of doxxing people and sharing their names publicly. it even took one of the people to court, lio convoy, who i don't like as a person obviously, but sugarydeceit did take him to court. you can even find the recording of it on youtube. sugarydeceit has threatened to do the same thing with me many times. i've been careful to hide my personal information but even then it's not a guarantee of my safety. so i freaked out, and tunnel-visioned, because i need to keep myself and my partner safe from sugarydeceit. and any support it gets emboldens it to send us threats of death, harm, and other horrible things. i already woke up to some anons from it today because of all of this. [pictured below] having support has made it brave again when i had just finally gotten it to back off again a few days ago because it was stupid enough to insult sugar's grief about his dying great grandfather.—

—that's why i wanted the posts taken down, on top of the fact that the information was untrue/exaggerated, which i'm sure sugar addressed in this post already. the posts put me and sugar in danger, the posts got us harassed- like i knew they would. i felt powerless and miserable and i didn't know what to do anymore. i really was making plans on how to kill myself because i thought it was over for me. i wasn't going to survive if the whole fandom began supporting my stalker, so i was in... survival mode, i guess. in that moment i wished i was back in the zcp. and i still kind of feel like that. it was abuse, but at least i didn't know that it was. it was a comfortable kind of misery. maybe that's just some weird kind of stockholm syndrome, i don't know.

i never want to come back to this fandom. it's absolutely mortifying to have my 'friends' all outcast and hate me for nearly 8 years, only to find a place i thought was safe, and then have the same exact thing happen. i haven't felt safe here ever since i was harassed for saying i didn't have enough information to pick sides in the maxim vs ridley situation, and then maxim himself was horrible to me in a way i can't address publicly right now, and then all of this. just being here scares me. all of anticare scares me. that's why i told people to not interact or use my ocs anymore. i was scared and just wanted to be left alone. it wasn't a personal attack against anyone, or me trying to invalidate previous support, i just had too many bad experiences that traumatized me and triggered me. i'm never even going to be able to release my own statement about my abuse because i'm terrified of the fandom picking it apart to try and invalidate me, or using the personal nature of the content to send me crueler targetted harassment, or just not caring.

i do have some involvement in the doc. i provided them with a fair amount of information considering my past proximity to kc, and i was able to confirm/deny things they were unsure about. i was going to have a section about my abuse, but i pulled out of adding it. so please don't discredit the entire doc just because you hate me. there are real predators, and real extremely damning pieces of evidence, addressed within it. and some other victims still made the choice to include their stories. so if you care about the other victims you'll spread it and support it. please.

the only further 'involvement' i'm probably ever going to have is boosting the doc when it comes out and answering any questions about it though i doubt i'll get any and i don't think i want to put them in the tag if i do answer any. if anything questions should be directed toward the doc blog and if they need an answer from me they'll ask me and parrot what i say.

That's so true. I'm just going to say more things about the different sentences you said because I want to and some people need to read this.

I.

So the first thing, methods are tools to HELP, not to MAKE you shift. People need to stop saying or IMPLYING you need one to shift. It happens more than people think, even if it's not directly said.

Also, people need to answer the people who ask "which methods..." that the methods are not needed. Shifters are thinking more about the methods than the shift itself.

II.

Caring about what people do in their own DRs is completely stupid. I don't care what people do or don't do in their drs (like you said, except if you kill or hurt people.) And everyone should be the same, because why care about other people's lives? They are not hurting anyone (at least I hope.) So let them live, bro.

And judging people because they DON'T script out imperfections is the same as caring about what people do in their DRs and it's the dumbest thing ever. I think imperfections make it more normal, y'know? Yes, we can live in the perfect world everyone wants but, we also need imperfections/problems too.

I'm shifting to MHA, so if there's no problem, heroes don't exist.

Or for someone who shifts in Marvel or another DR which we NEED problems to live what we want to live.

About Kill DRs, they are genuinely terrifying, because you don't kill here but you CAN kill in another reality? You're just a psychopath who wants to have the right to act on their urge without repercussions. If you can kill in another reality, you can do it here too, and this is not something you can debate on.

I don't have much to say about this one because, yes, shifting is scientific. And like you said it got explained multiple times. For the people who think the opposite, I invite you to do your research, or ask at least someone who knows or has read the scientific evidence what the explanations are. (Don't ask me, I'm still waiting for the motivation to continue reading, I swear.)

Also, shifting has existed since forever. Experiences were made since 1983/and before. People in the past talked about it way before everything, but just they didn't use the term shift.

Because, no, shifting is not called shifting reality. People just started calling it that way. So don't stress if you don't say "I'm shifting." Or anything.

The over-script or don't script at all. Again, minding other people's lives.

Who cares if they over-script or don't script? Is it going to kill you? To prevent you from shifting? No, so why judging about something so insignificant.

People prefer to over-script to be sure they have everything. And some don't script because it's not necessary and prefer doing other stuff than scripting. You can't just judge or force someone to think like you do or do what you do.

The cheating problem, SO MANY people are fighting about this its crazy. For the shifter, you go to ANOTHER reality, even if you have another partner in here doesn't mean you're cheating because you're not dating the person you date here. So if you don't date this person, there's no cheating.

Of course, it's okay to question it. It important. But your feelings are different from one reality to another. And it's important to understand that.

For the PARTNER, please. You're jealous of a person who's not even in your reality.

I can understand why you guys feel like that, but you guys probably do the same or would do the same (if not a shifter.)

Your partner doesn't HAVE to date you in every reality. It doesn't mean they don't love you in this one, they do. But not in another one.

SPOILERS FOR THE WHOLE TLT SERIES (SO FAR) READ AT YOUR OWN RISK!!!

Okay so, I saw a post on about TLT a while ago and despite my best attempts I cannot find it again. Essentially, it went; "Does Gideon finally have what she wanted, are women throwing themselves at her in the Cohort, does she even care?" It got me thinking like... how would Gideon even handle that in her current state? She's the CHILD OF GOD, she was right, her Father is the most important person in the world and he's finally claimed her. Is it all she ever wanted? Does any of it mean anything to her, without Harrow? We get a tiny glimpse into how its been affecting her through Nona's eyes in the last bits of Nona the Ninth (ie, saddest girl in the world and her lies about Harrow.) so obviously she hasn't been having the greatest time... but that's coming from Nona, who's able to notice the tiniest details in body language and speech. How well as Gideon been hiding her despair from everyone? Does Ianthe know how deeply Gideon fell for Harrowhark (she probably does.) How have her "father" (John was hardly even a sperm donor, he doesn't deserve the title tbh.) and Ianthe been twisting Gideon this whole time? How well do Gideon's lies work on herself? There's so many fucking questions!!!! Anyways. When I think about "THE BIG HERO KIRIONA" (and all her titles that I don't remember atm) there's two scenarios that play out in my head. There's the Kiriona that tries to bury her pain in hedonism, taking full advantage of her position as THE EMPEROR UNDYING'S DAUGHTER to indulge in everything she ever wanted. The second is more plausible (both based on my reading of Gideon's character, and of how Tamsyn has treated sex and intimacy so far.) Kiriona throws herself into the work the Emperor gives her, she fights like a woman possessed for the Cohort, and seeing as she's essentially invincible - takes suicidal risks. I think any sign of intimacy would enrage her, both of the women whom showed her ANY kindness (those women being Cythera and Harrowhark) both "betrayed her" (although only Cythera actually did, but Gideon sees Harrowhark's lunatic act of love for her as a refusal of her entirety.) and would push away anyone whom tried to truly engage with her. We see that Gideon and Ianthe are somehow "friendly", but she also lies and lies and lies to Ianthe the entire time they interact in Nona!!! How much of that friendship is REAL?! I think both Gideon and Harrowhark have an up-mountain battle to fight if they want to truly be together (and FUCK you, they do.) But I think that they'll do it, I think they'll suffer all the agonies of their love to be able to stand side-by-side with one another again. I don't think they'll be making out with each other by the end of Alecto the Ninth, but I think that with Tamsyn's words on the subject at hand (that there WILL be hope.) that we'll be leaving them to work at it until they can. tl;dr GRIDDLEHARK BABY, WOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! sorry if this was scatterbrained, I just wanted to sit down and write out my thoughts. <3 ty for reading!!!

Where in my post did I ever discredit their bond? All I said was to NOT ENGAGE WITH NOR SPREAD STALKER CONTENT and to be careful before spreading information because it could be potentially false.

I never said to truly write off eye witness accounts, but to do the rational thing and take them all with a grain of salt. Because do you know what taekookers do? They hear a rumor, run with the rumor, and won't let anyone else tell them otherwise. They ignore any other voice of reason, ignore when people in other spaces try to disprove something or provide better insight. They also consistently ignore what HAS been stated and vetted by saying "what this person said is lying", or "Jungkook and Taehyung can't be open about their relationship because they're being controlled by the company", or blah blah blah, whatever suits their narrative.

Do you want Jikookers to end up like that? Is that what you want? For us to have someone come online and say "I saw Jimin and Jungkook at [location] doing [blank]", having everyone spread and believe it without any HEALTHY doubts or any disclaimers, and then later having it proven to be untrue?

Am I saying majority Jikookers move like that? No. Absolutely not. I am saying that if we continue to endorse this behavior, the slope becomes a lot more slippery.

The fact is: Everything is speculative until directly proven otherwise. Theories are theories until fundamentally proven true. If you cannot recognize that, that's a dangerous way of thinking.

Like I said, at the end of the day Jikook being a couple in and of itself is still speculative. That is the cold, hard truth. That's not saying "they're not real" or "they could never happen", that's simply saying that we must respect the possibility of it not being true, and that we should create a somewhat respectful boundary between us and them before making theories and promoting them as 100% facts.

You can believe that they're real, but it's completely normal to hold doubts about something that hasn't been completely confirmed. One thing that is 100% real and 100% vetted is their mutual love and respect for one another as two people who have been friends for well over a decade. They endured some of the greatest hardships of their lives together, so anyone who says that they hate one another of course is completely delusional.

Though it is true that a lot of the claims that Jikookers make are often proven to be true later on, that doesn't mean that every theory made by a Jikooker by default is true. This is why it's important to be mindful.

If you don't understand that, that's entirely on you. If you want to endorse stalking or dangerous behavior by leaking their locations or their hotels, you go on right ahead. Just letting you know that it's scary and dangerous, and I wonder how you would feel if someone followed you around and constantly compromised your privacy to millions of people to get back at the people who 'doubted them'.

Being right at the expense of someone's personal life or security is not always the best. Spreading unvetted information without a disclaimer on the internet is still dangerous regardless of if you have no ill intent behind it.

Also, surprise suprise, I am a Jikooker. I am just one who tries to be mindful about information and sources before completely believing in it. A lot of Jikookers on my timeline were wary about the sources, not because they were antis or moving like taekookers who were desperate to disprove it, but because it's just the natural thing to be inquisitive about secondhand information.

Another thing about the insincere 'but why no one talks about the flaws!!!!' posts is that fans who make those posts often conflate several things:

First, when popular white guy characters have their flaws sanded down by the fandom it usually takes the form of whump-ification, woobie-fication or in some fandoms of making him super powerful and the perfect ideal hero. The focus is firmly on the character and his suffering or reliability, his flaws are removed because he is the fandom's special guy and everything is centered on him. And it's his fans who are doing it. And often these works and headcanons and characterization dominate fanworks and fanon.

But with over-hated characters of color like Darius TOH or Mel Arcane, or sometimes with white women who stand in the path of a ship or who are turned into everyone's mom, when their flaws are supposedly removed it isn't done because these fans love their characters so much. Instead it is usually done because they are needed in the role of protecting and serving other characters or because the fandom doesn't know how to process their flaws in a normal way. You can even tell because there rarely will be any of the same plots where the character receives care or is rescued and everyone worries about them (like, others had noticed it too - there is literally almost no comfort fics centered on Darius in toh fandom, and among those that are there maybe one or two has the same whump-y characterization that the white characters of the same narrative importance, like Alador, get). And this 'removal' of flaws is usually done not by fans who care that much about the character, but by primarly fans of other characters. Sometimes they manage to demonize the character and still turn them into a one dimensional comfort provider.

And then, there are actual fans of the unpopular and/or demonized characters who are usually perfectly aware of the real flaws, but just want to focus on something positive about the characters, yet receive disproportionate push back, and suddenly a big portion of fandom acts like not constantly focusing on the flaws is equal to not admiting that the flaws exist (although often the fanon flaws are not canon). And with unpopular characters even if some fans of the character might remove the flaws and choose an interpretation that is too soft, it still doesnt reach the same overwhelming ammount as with woobie white favourites, yet is treated with more agression.

And fandoms tend to conflate all these phenomena and churn out constant barrage of 'why no one talks about the flaws of this unpopular/overly hated character!' when 1. fandom already can't shut up about the flaws 2. those who sand down the flaws to make the character into a prop to a resident woobie more often are fans of the said woobie, but the fans of the unpopular character get blamed instead, when usually they are the ones to first call that out 3. with other characters, even outright villains, it is considered normal to not focus on the flaws and create all kinds of cutesy fanworks and favourable interpretations, yet when it's an unpopular character of color suddenly that becomes a problem. And you can tell with which characters it will become a problem before even going into fandom tags (hint: it has nothing to do with the canon severity of their actions/flaws)

I must agree—Georgine is hands down the most tragic character in Bookworm. Not just because bad things happen to her, but because she dies due entirely to how she was raised. (As opposed to Ferdinand and Myne, who live in defiance of being born to die.) Even worse, she is a victim of the exact things Myne works to dismantle in the system that's been built: isolation of children from external support structures and a severe lack of broad and functional education.

If Georgine had been raised with even a modicum of genuine care (that wasn't from someone she had been primed to hate), she could have turned out so different. If she learned even one (1) coping mechanism, she could have done some good. But she wasn't taught anything that was supposed to serve her, only the idea of who she needed to be. The education system in Yurgenschmidt is locked behind family- and pay-walls, so variety isn't available, isolation is inevitable, and if you're raised in abuse then you won't know anything else.

But let's step back for a second. Let's talk about what makes a tragedy with what is probably the most famous example.

The tragedy of Romeo and Juliet is that they are children, and the adults around them failed them at every turn before, during, and up to their deaths. It's a tragedy because everyone was locked in their traditions, never deviating from their first education, and thus it could not have ever ended differently. Every decision made—those of their family included—were decided in advance by tradition, grudges, and actions that happened before the story even began. In fact, if their romance had been revealed at the start, it might have gotten even bloodier. What's more, even though Juliet throws question at every turn whether they should delay things, put off their marriage, listen to reason, etc., she is ultimately swayed by Romeo by what usually boils down to a single line of dialog. The most tragic part of Juliet isn't even necessarily that she's not educated enough, or doesn't have external support systems—it's the naivety the comes from her youth. She's very clearly a smart girl. But her willingness to assume someone else knows better—someone who was smitten with a relative literally until the moment he laid eyes on Juliet—is very telling. Juliet does not think Romeo to be fickle and naive because she has only known his passion.

The tragedy of Georgine is due to Veronica setting her on this path long before the story ever began. She was never permitted the chance to learn anything beyond what would serve an Archduchess. She was groomed, postured, and set up to win, and then earned only failure due to... not being born with a penis.

But the absolute worst part to me, the most tragic and telling detail of her story, is that Ahrensbach absolutely went to pieces under her hand. So that education her mother gave her? The thing that destroyed her life? It wasn't even halfway decent. No wonder the royal family was so willing to import Ferdinand to teach Letizia when Georgine was right there. Not only was she right there, but she was right there with the right pedigree, the right education, and with experience acting as the current archduchess after the death of her husband. But the Royal Family didn't trust Georgine—or even anyone in her family—to do this. Likely because of her incompetence, pettiness, and inclination towards revenge. The Royals are convinced that their word is law. This is how they have been treated for decades. So simply ordering Georgine to do this would have been enough for them. But they didn't. Not because they didn't trust Georgine to not sabotage Letizia's education, but because no one in Ahrensbach could be trusted to provide it.

Georgine really just did everything she was told, acted how she was raised, performed as she was expected, and took revenge the way she was trained, only to trip over a landMyne at the last possible moment.

Hey. gently holds you by the shoulders. What do you make of the start of Everyone Hates His Parents and the way that Jason specifies how he commutes from Trina's to Marvin's, but is driven back from Marvin's to Trina's by Trina. Have we thought about that.

TLDR: At first glance, it's the usual 'Marvin's the deadbeat dad and Trina is the single mother. But Trina's newfound control over her life and the way she's finally able to act independently of Marvin has a bit of an offensive edge (with its justifications of course) and the sudden change in Marvin's character into act 2 now makes Trina feel more overbearing in a way.

Like. Jason says specifically, "Travel, travel, travel, from her house to his house." Why doesn't Marvin pick Jason up himself like Trina does? Is it from his old habits of distancing himself from his kid and operating as separate entities? Or is he purposefully distancing himself from the household that reminds him of his toxic past? Has he never forgiven himself over what he's done to his family and is keeping space to prevent it from happening again?

Then, "Each Sunday night, Mother comes to get me." In this instance specifically, Trina and Mendel come to pick Jason up after the weekend. Of course, Jason's old and mature enough to commute himself, so why does Trina pick Jason up instead of letting him commute back? To show her care towards her child? The most probable reason, given how she's spent most of his parenting life basically as a solo mother.

But if she worried about Jason that much, surely she'd drop Jason off at Marvin's? Unless she's also trying to distance her responsibility over Jason from Marvin's responsibility? (So when Mendel tells her to "Drop it... give it up... what's the matter, Trina?" in 'A Day in Falsettoland', does this suggest that while Trina still struggles with letting go of things she cannot control, she's been too used to putting the blame of her family breaking down on the fact that "[her] life is shitty and [her] kid seems like an idiot to [her]" and that Marvin's queer to realise her own failings in not only looking down on her child but in neglecting him in her wanting to cut Marvin out of her life?)

In the argument in 'Everyone Hates Their Parents', Trina opens the discussion. "I want the Applebaums, they're lovely and they like me." She asserts that she wants to "have the Applebaums" two times, before Marvin counters after each. Perhaps something could be said in the way she appears to be 'starting' the fights? Jason also notes how each of Trina's and Mendel's visits to pick him up from Marvin's spark a fight between his divorced parents. The fact that Trina comes to pick Jason up alone feels almost as if she's making the decision to 'rescue' Jason from Marvin's custody; and the fact that her visit sparks fights only highlights further how Trina has begun to take the offensive side.

In 'A Day in Falsettoland', Marvin has to gently beg, "Please?" three times to ask Trina to consider Cordelia to cater for the bar mitzvah. Compared to Trina's initiative to pick Jason up every week, it seems as though Marvin has truly taken a more passive side to his role in the family. (As in, he's stopped expecting himself to be the omnipresent, omnipotent male head of the family, who has control over everything.)

However, in 'Falsettoland/About Time', Marvin emphasises how short his custody over Jason per week is: "But I still have my son on the weekends, just on the weekends."—in short, 'at least I still get to see my son, although just for two out of seven days'. While Trina has supposedly finally got her life together, Marvin is clawing on to whatever little he has remaining from the consequences of Act 1. The two years that have passed since 'Father To Son' has changed him drastically, and yet Trina is still hung over about Whizzer, about Marvin attempting to be a little more present in Jason's life.

Obviously taken a very different approach in regards to how you analyse Trina and Marvin together as characters, but I find it incredibly fascinating how complex they are and how much they change throughout both acts of the musical, so much so that their flaws are never 100% fixed even after the fiasco that was March of the Falsettos (Act 1 I mean. Not the song lmao.) Especially with Trina, whose complexity I often overlook because it seems in Act 1 that all the men are downright ridiculous and Trina's the only one who can see it. Just refreshing to see how the perspectives of one character can drastically influence our own—whether for good or bad, that's up to interpretation.

sometimes people who struggle like to make jokes or find positives about their condition that causes them to struggle so they can escape the constant negative and struggle. sometimes autistic people will say things like "the 'tism" or use the "autism creature" or say their autism helped them have a *positive trait* to feel better about their struggles. because living your life only focusing on the struggles and negatives is depressing and makes it hard to want to live, even if those struggle take up 100% of your life and you can't actually escape them. sometimes any little seemingly positive thing can help a lot.

but there's so many other autistic people that hate when we do that and call it "reducing autism to a cute trendy thing" and say it takes away from *their* struggles and is bad and shouldn't be used. maybe *you* want to only focus on your struggles, but some people can't live in constant negative and need some positive or to find ways to make their condition more positive so they can feel better about living with their struggles. life is hard. I take anything I can get.

I cant get jobs. I can't make and keep friends. I can't get help and support for doing "normal" things so sometimes I go weeks without being able to shower and without eating more than a bowl of cereal a day. most times can't even do things I like. struggle to communicate. have meltdowns. i'll never be able to live independently. I struggle a lot. but instead of sitting here always depressed and having no motivation to live, i'd rather try to joke about "my 'tism is acting up again" when i'm struggling (just an example. don't think I ever actually used the 'tism thing but i saw others use it) or say "i'm just being a creature" when I need to stay in my dark room because everything is too much and I personally find it cute to be a little creature meant in a positive way. i'm not actually downplaying mine or anyone else's struggles. I still acknowledge them and that silly jokes dont make them go away. i'm not trying to be trendy. i'm not doing any of the things people say we do by making silly little jokes. i'm using the silly little jokes to convince myself life can be a little more than pointless, painful garbage all the time.
