Sakumo being a super popular borderline sex symbol in his era will never stop being my favorite hc, I need to see more of it

All the people his age and younger had a crush on him. It was just a Thing(tm) where 9 times out of 10, a Konoha shinobi's first crush was probably Sakumo. Even other villages young shinobi hung up his bingo book picture above their bunk and dreamed of both killing him, being killed by him (in a hot way), having a battlefield fling with him, and more. There was blackmarket fanfiction. He was incredibly popular among civilians all over fire country. Some popular romance novels had love interests very blatantly based off him.

Even before they were on a team together, Obito and Rin both had a silly kid crush on Kakashi's dad (Obito more than Rin) and he was aware of it. This did not help make him like them any more. (By the time hearing smthn positive ab his dad would have made Kakashi softer, they'd both gotten better at hiding the crush, so to Kakashi it looked like they'd gotten over Sakumo.) Even Minato had a bit of a thing for him, not really but like— strong, popular, feard and very friendly ninja who is now paying him some attention (bc hes his kids teacher) he's not immune. Kushina understands, she is also not immune. (Kakashi is going to throw a fucking fit)

Even after his failed mission, when his reputation crashes and burns within the village, he still can't completely shake his admirers— they possibly just get more disrespectful ab the attraction when it mixes with the hate. (Which tbh could make for an interesting discussion all on its own)

Kakashi is haunted by his father's insane popularity for decades after his death. He does his very best to ignore the lingering evidence of people being insane ab his father.

One day he realizes one of his favorite romance novels has a romance interest based off Sakumo and has a break down ab it and can never read the series again.

When raiding an old abandoned enemy camp w Team Ro, he finds an old, autographed photo of his dad covered in lipstick marks in the communal bathroom. He chooses to ignore it but it's quickly spotted by his teammates, who do not know who Sakumk is, and v quickly begin to remark on the poster, who this mysterious Konoha nin is, and ahaha damn he is kinda good looking, huh? (Kakashi wants to DIE)

Shisui ends up taking the poster back to Konoha with them and hangs it up in the ANBU communal quarters where it is VERY quickly recognized. And also some of the people in that room recognize it so quick bc they also used to own a similar poster. (Kakashi wants to DIE someone PLEASE kill him now)

Its only when he's given team 7 that he finally thinks he's escaped the legacy of his father as Konoha's Most Sexiest Shinobi. Only for Naruto, when being trained by Jiriyah, to find his drafts for Icha Icha very clearly inspired by his dad. Which he can never publish for multiple reasons (lingering respect for Sakumo. Also for Kakashi, who is his biggest fan and would probably never look at him again.)

Naruto somehow accidentally brings this up with Kakashi who like. Has war flashbacks and immediatley stands up and walks away as Jiryah scrambles to try to explain himself and Tsunade looks on in scorn (she will approach him later to carefully ask for the drafts while trying to seem like she's not really asking for them bc she's too proud to admit it)

Naruto and Sakura discover Kakashi-sensei's dad was a sex symbol. I don't even know how they'd react but like. Oh my god. Oh my god you guys.

Funniest option would be they accidentally revive his popularity a little bit by being so loud ab it they like, remind people ab him. + introduce another generation to the idea of him

But then in the Obito vs Kakashi Kamui fight, it fucking flutters down in the middle of the fight and Obito fucking dies of humiliation as Kakashi realizes he will truly Never Escape and that this reality is his own personal hell

Uhh endgame Kakashi becomes Hokage and accidentally retreads his father's path in becoming the new Konoha Sexy Man. Which simultaneously crushes him (he will never escape) and fills him with delight (he will now be able to impart the pain of having your father figure be lusted after by all ur friends and acquaintances onto his students)

just like he is with everyone, logan is quite standoffish with you when you first meet. you met through charles at the mansion, but after a week or so, and many smiled, logan warmed to you. you became really close really quick, talking about anything and everything.

logan is an cuddle bug, he loves a hug. as soon as you get, or him, get back from a mission he’d be on you. wrapping his arms around you and holding you close, your own legs wrapped around his waist.

as soon as you and logan get together, he knows he wants to be with you for the rest of your lives. he wants a simple life, no more fighting, a little home away from everything. he’d be better at cleaning than cooking, you’d cook and he’d wash up and dry.

logan would never want this, it would be worse comes to worse. you were in danger. he’d hate it, say it was to protect you, which would break your hate, and in turn you’d hate him in a way. but he’d always come back - logan always did.

as said above, big bear hugs, holding you close. it’d be secure, you’d feel so safe when he hugs you. rests his head on top of yours and presses his lips on your hair constantly.

when he meets laura that doesn’t really change, but my god he’s a good dad and you take her in as your daughter - he absolutely adores the both of you and seeing you together melts his heart - but not when you join forces and gang up on him.

slow and soft. waking up slowly with kisses all over your face, shoulders and back. gentle whisperers to bring you from your slumber and hushed voices when you wake up.

… this is logan we’re talking about. he doesn’t get angry at you, annoyed yes, if you hurt yourself doing something silly. his claws slip out with ease when he sees someone making you upset or uncomfortable, not even thinking before acting.

your first kiss for sure, he could never forget it, he was being broody and rambling about issues you may face in the future. you just grabbed him by his worn flannel and kissed him straight on the mouth - he instantly shut up.

so fucking protective, he’d protect you with his life. you walk on the inside of the path away from the cars. an overly bark-y dog approaches, you’re behind him. you feel uncomfortable, claws are drawn.

During their confrontation, Selina scratches and scars his face, but Darkwolf throws a grenade in Batman’s direction (while they’re all on an airplane) so Selina leaps with the agility of a panther, catches the grenade, and jumps out of the airplane, seeming to sacrifice herself. Was Krypto Jor-El's dog? Or did their family have another pet?

Because think about it. Thanks to Cujo, we KNOW animals with unfinished business or strong attachments stay behind. We ALSO know from nigh COUNTLESS videos on the internet that pets get REALLY attached to pregnant moms and by extention, the new pack members.

Krpton was an Alien planet. Just because SOME of the animals there looked similar to earth animals, doesn't mean ALL of them do. Nor does it mean they ONLY domesticated dog like creatures or cat like creatures. They could have anything from vaguely bear-like to fox-ish to small moose but with more teeth.

It was a completely different ecology.

And Jor-El? Him and his wife had a CHOICE to make. They had A pod. Singular. Tiny. Not a ship, not an escape pod, not even a refurbished shipping container. Just a pod with life support and all the information about Krypton they could fit. A guidance system that, gods willing, would see their son to a safe and sympathetic planet to be raised by kind people.

THEY couldn't even fit.

How in the gods name would a large pet? Even a mid sized pet. Let us assume, for this prompt, that being scientists of high position? Pays or allocates pretty well. They have the room. The resources. When they got married, Jor-El's wife REALLY wanted a cub or pup or what have you, of some large-ish animal breed.

The equivalent of an earth mastiff dog. Just an Absolute UNIT. Used to be gaurds and working beasts, now more athletic pets then anything. Known to be great protecters of Their People.

And well... Jor-El WAS already starting to notice some things that were making him Less Than Popular... probably nothing (he had naively hoped, at the time.) But better to have a Just In Case. Sure, honey. Let's get one!

And they LOVED Snookums.

Snookums ADORED them AND the baby! Kal-El basically NEVER left Snookums sight. He slept beneath Kal's crib. Followed them everywhere they went, when they were holding Kal. Planted himself like Kal's Sworn Protector as the baby drooled all over his fur. It was the cutest thing EVER.

Watching their son disappear into the sky. Flying home as the ground groan as shakes, trees toppling and people screaming. Panicking. Dying pointless deaths that could have been stopped.

Walking into the home that should have been where they spent their whole live. Where, in a way, they WILL.

Knowing they won't grow old.

Sitting on the floor with their confused, frantic, pet as fire starts to light up the horizon. As the ground shakes violently on last, terrible time. Knowing the lethal heat will hit them before their ears ever register the sound.

But! Where is Snookum's Baby Kal!?

They are scared, confused, and everything is LOUD AND RUMBLY. Very Bad. Don't like that. Their ADULTS come back home. BUT NOT THEIR BABY. Where is Baby Kal?! Snookums is a GOOD Boy and a GREAT Protector. It is in his blood.

But the universe is large. And there is no smell in space. (Well, there ARE. But they are Stinky Gasses and those do not help Snookums.) So it takes lots and lots of time. Until! He meets a glowing blue dog!

A hopeful corgi? What is a corgi? Irrelevant! The hopeful one knows of Snookums' Kal! Oh, thank you small friend! You indeed DO give hope! We shall go at once and Kal shall be safe and with family once more!

How do you think Mello reconciled his faith with the existence of Shinigamis who kill people to extend their own lifespan? Do you think he took he took that as evidence other beings like angels might exist or did he take that as a challenge to his faith? How did he fit them within his own belief system?

oh this is the question of all time, i love nothing more than talking about Mello's religious identity in contrast to well, everything in canon (as you can tell, i'm very popular at parties). i think it's such a shame people don't interrogate his potential faith when it adds another very complex layer to his character and how he behaves in the manga and anime. i will mention that i briefly touched on it here, but i wrote that post a while ago, and i'm happy to talk about it in more detail now.

purely from personal circumstances, i have known a lot of people who have been able to still reconcile their religious beliefs with things that are if not contradictory, certainly still go against some core principles of that belief. this is to be expected; humans are inherently hypocritical, and convenience will always have a massive influence on our opinions. hell, politically, there are many things i agree with, but don't put into practice. same applies for religion. there's catholics in my family who want me to read their tarot because they ardently believe in it as much as they do the trinity.

now the reason i bring this up isn't to get unnecessarily philosophical, but more so to say that i do not think that the existence of Shinigami would be enough to necessarily disrupt one's faith. they are absolutely gods in their own right, purely looking at this from the canon perspective, but they undoubtedly possess very human attitudes. compare Ryuk and Light for a moment – if you swapped them so that Ryuk was the human who picked up the Death Note and Light was the Shinigami haunting him, i personally think it matches the archetypes for their characters more fluently (which is why I love Death Note – if fucks with general literary expectations in many different ways). i don't want to get into an entire debate about whether God made Shinigami, especially because Shinigami are important Japanese deities and it is certainly not my place to suggest otherwise, but what is important to note with the interpretation of them in the context of Death Note is that they are flawed characters. if you follow a religion which claims that your God is perfect (which i think all Christian denominations typically accept), Sidoh, Ryuk and Rem would not be the kind of Gods you'd probably accept as an alternate reality to your strongly held convictions of who God is to you.

i do like the idea that Mello had to contend with his beliefs in some capacity, however. he is strangely calm about Sidoh's arrival (his freak out is relatively brief compared to L's, for example), and i am certain much of the information regarding the Death Note and how it works is difficult to really align with a monotheistic belief. however, i do also think being religious (or spiritual, at the very least) does sometimes give people an ability to interpret the inconceivable better than those who might try and explore things through a rational viewpoint. Mello could very well have had a crisis of faith, but i also think it would have given him more of an acceptance towards the supernatural. whether he saw the Shinigami as legitimate Gods or a product of a world in which one God creates everything, i think judging by the way he actually ends up scaring Sidoh, we can tell he is not threatened by their existence in quite the same manner as almost every other character in the series.

i think it is interesting that you bring up angels because i think that is a very apt comparison you could make in considering how Mello interprets Shinigami in accordance with his beliefs. divine creatures that are spiritually significant but don't necessarily contradict the ultimate importance of God. i do wonder if Mello would treat an angel in the same way as he does with Sidoh, but i guess that would be slightly dependent on several factors, haha.

what i like about headcanoning Mello as Catholic (despite not currently identifying with the religion myself) is that Mello is undeniably an underdog, a child who grows up being continually told that he is lesser, and as a direct result becomes involved in crime to prove himself worthy of a title that realistically, he was never going to have a chance to adopt. there's something about having a character so disadvantaged and also so unapologetically immoral being religious that is fascinating, because it not only begs the question as to how they reconcile their actions with their faith, but also how they hold onto that faith in spite of the horrors that they no doubt have witnessed and been involved in. Mello matures drastically after the Mafia base explosion, and another reason his death is so upsetting is because there's the potential for redemption that remains unexplored. a character such as Mello having faith creates a certain degree of appreciation that, despite the contradictory lifestyle, it is still an important aspect of his character. of course, if you still think he wears a rosary because it makes him look cunty or whatever, that's still a valid interpretation, but i do think discussing it seriously and considering the implications is more interesting, honestly.

SNEAK PEAK

“Maybe…Maybe we should break up.”

There's another round of silence between you two, and you know that you can’t exactly take it back anymore since you had said it loud and clear, “Woah, woah, I told you I wasn’t with Misa.” his voice turns louder, and the background noises are good as gone as if he had left the noisy place, “Where are you? I’m coming to get you-”

“I said,” you try to control the stammering of your voice, trying to avoid the stares of the people who cast odd glances, “We’re done. I don’t want to see or hear from you again.” and before he could let another excuse out of his mouth, you end the call. It is only now that you notice how your legs have been quivering and your mouth has gone dry, seemingly like a pup who had just been born and trying to walk. You lose your footing and sit down on the dirty pavement.

No tears were shed at that very moment, probably because you were only stupefied, and it was written clearly on your face that this wouldn’t be something you’d recover anytime soon. Heck, you couldn’t even grasp the idea entirely that someone you’ve been friends with for years and, eventually, a lover would do that to you.

Was it as easy as a snap of a finger?

“Miss? Miss?” someone calls out, but it only bounces back to him like an echo in a cave. You remain still, eyes blinking rapidly while the rest of your face is slack. Everyone around you continued to move, but you remained there like a decorated statue.

“Miss? Christ, you’re about to be–” the husky voice also stops, and it’s only now that you look up to find a man. He seems stocky but, simultaneously, smaller, as if he didn’t want to come off as intimidating when he maintained eye-to-eye contact. 

He is incongruous with everyone who walks by since he desperately tries to hide his features with a baseball cap and a dark face mark. The only thing you can see are strands of his bleached hair, his eyes that resemble the sunshine that peeked through the glasses of whiskey, and the swirls of ink becoming visible underneath his coat when he stretches out his arm.

If this were any other day, you’d run in the opposite direction because he looked like an unscrupulous loan shark, but your body remains in a state of unknown fatigue that you just wanted to stay still. 

You watch as his face softens, the lines on his forehead somewhat disappearing when he watches the color bleed from your face. “...Alright…” he stops, squinting as he crouches to your level. His thick thighs encompass the rough expanse of his straight jeans, and you wondered if he had been an athlete or something. Aside from his built, his presence was rather invigorating,  “oh…” he continues, “Sorry, you-uh…” The confidence he had to throw you off is gone like the evening dust as he motions his index finger up and down his face.

At that moment, you feel something wet running down your cheek. It seemed like the waterworks were late.

You didn’t want to be a pity party in front of anyone, and you’d expect there to be only bystanders, not ‘good samaritans’.

You sniffled, violently wiping the tears away as you felt your ribs were too tight when you took one long breath, “I’m fine…” you respond monotonously.

Who were you even fooling? 

“Right…” you carefully watch him take out a handkerchief, “Fine, sitting on a dirty pavement near my car doesn’t make you look fine, Miss.” he prodded.

“Well, what do you care, anyways?” you tried to keep your voice from cracking, but the stranger showed no qualms of anxiety or fear, nor did he seem mad at your snappy attitude. The blue handkerchief is laid on his palm, waiting for you to take it, yet you exhibit no signs of accepting his kindness. Instead of forcing you through like the usual status quo, he returns it to his pockets.

The odd man.

“Well, for one, I don’t want to run your feet over since I’m parked over here,” he thumbs towards the black jeep that’s parked in front of you, “And my mom didn’t raise me to leave a girl sitting alone, crying her eyes out…”

“Well, did your mom tell you to mind your own business, as well?” your body remains heavy and distant from the stranger, not minding if it came off as rude, but you’ve always been wary of them, especially the ones who claimed to be nice. You wouldn’t be swayed even if you were in a vulnerable place.

He sucks in a deep breath, quite surprised that you had the energy to exchange a vehement response to him. Weren’t you just about to bawl your eyes out?

“Well, you honestly looked like you deserve some niceness after whatever happened.” he conceded, remaining suspiciously friendly, “Piece of advice, though, if it’s a guy, he’s not worth it.” 

“I-what makes you think it’s a guy?” there it goes again, the unknown tightening of your throat and the way the gummy lids on your eyes would heat up as if a pipe of water was about to burst and flood the segways any moment.

“It’s always an asshole who doesn’t seem to know how to treat a woman right.” he lamely explains, and slowly but hesitantly, as if he was waiting for you to move away, he places one hand on top of your hand. 

Unlike a while ago, you weren’t as hostile, but you were confused about why the stranger suddenly did this and didn’t seem to tilt away like you usually would, “So go home tonight, Miss. Cry it out and wake up tomorrow for yourself. You’ll be fine.”

You don’t even see his entire face, but the way he gently caresses your hair as if you were a long-time friend had your lips quivering, and without even realizing it, your torso bends forward. You bury your face in your arms, finding solace in your makeshift fetal position.

The stranger says nothing more; honestly, you didn’t even mind. His newfound presence is comforting.

not to be a downer but while i agree with the sentiment of what the "death note AU where hbomberguy solves the kira case while investigating light yagami for something unrelated to the murders" post is trying to go for, it gets a bunch of stuff fundamentally wrong about light as a character and of how the death note itself works, and as a noted Light Yagami Hater™ i feel like i should set things straight here:

light was top of his class in high school and got into one of the most prestigious universities in his region. he does his research pretty thoroughly and would not even consider plagiarizing anything, especially with how unreliable it would make you look if you got caught. this "light would probably be a plagiarist if he was a youtuber" bit seems like it's there just because the james sommerton video is so fresh in our minds; if that post was drafted like a year ago there'd probably be a bit in there instead about light straight up lying about his accomplishments and how his mother is very proud

"light would have unhinged right-wing political takes if he was on youtube" there's a pretty significant possibility that he would, although not intentionally. light would brand himself as more of a center-left intellectual debater type and gets popular going up against people who are so right-wing that his points seem progressive by comparison (on top of him being conventionally attractive), and that would make stuff like his misogyny and pro-cop stances and "there are some types of people the world would be better off without" sentiments stand out when comparing him to more leftist youtubers. hbomb's initial investigation into light likely started out with the thesis of "light yagami can get away with saying shit like this because he's an extremely fuckable twink"

the thing about that post that stood out to me as its most egregious mistake though was the insistence of legal names being the ones you need to kill someone with the note. you've probably seen joke posts going around before like "if you write a trans person's deadname into the death note it kills you instead," and that's built upon one of the rules of the death note:

[id: The names you see with the eye power of a god of death are the names needed to kill that person. You will be able to see the names even if that person isn't registered in the family registration.]

a name doesn't have to be legally registered for it to work, and a legal name might not even work in some cases. granted a change of a legal name could still be a viable defensive strategy to throw off someone trying to research what your name is, but outright saying "i've legally changed my name to something you won't be able to find out so you can't kill me" will not protect you from the death note at all.

in my opinion, i believe the point in which hbomb spots the thread leading to his conclusion of light yagami being behind the kira murders is around the end of the yotsuba arc. he'd be able to intuit the first, second, and third kiras being separate entities by the types of people they kill, and the situation of "this guy i've been looking into has dropped off the face of the internet for like two months and the kira murders are suddenly different" would probably be too interesting of coincidence for him to ignore

Well well well! Look at this! Another side thing for a three-shot I might post ever... Uh. Maybe. If I re-write it and finish it. Anyway, I hope you enjoy it!

Mumbo hadn't been sure what it meant when he'd been told he was the child of the prophecy. Partially because his best friend had just fallen in the river, and Mumbo couldn't see him and oh god what if he was drowning what if he drowned and he couldn't save hi- and partially because they hadn't been clear about what exactly that meant until he and Scar had long been dragged away from the river and Grian who was probably, who had probably drow-

Apparently, there had been a prophecy about the old king, or well, once he died. The prophecy they had received a few years after the old king had become the ruler. It had gone as followed:

"Through all the Realm secrets flow,

By the Kingdoms River you shall know,

The next in line upon the throne,

Once the King returns to bone,

But do not fret about your fate,

You shall live long, and have no hate,

So once time is near, journey the end,

Where the water and blood mix and blend."

Not the best rhyme Mumbo had ever heard, and it was a little gruesome if you thought about the meaning, but he couldn't really argue with what the prophet had said. Yet it didn't explain how they'd known it was him, and not, say, Scar, who was confident and charming, or one of the thugs who'd been attacking them, or- or Grian. They hadn't explained then, and they had never ended up explaining.

Mumbo had a sneaking suspicion they'd just picked him because he was convenient. But they hadn't backed down on it if so, even though he was nervous and awkward and lanky. In the beginning, he had been downright awful at all this ruling stuff. That was to be expected. He also kept asking where Grian was. He'd sort of been in denial about what had happened. Eventually, he gave up asking, and so did Scar.

Years went by, sadly enough. And he got better. And the kingdom loved him. Mumbo had never put kings down as the type to get fanmail, but either he was wrong or one in a million. Well, he technically was the chosen one, right? That did make him special in some way. Probably.

Usually there was someone hired to sift through all the letters and separate the ones claiming to be long lost relatives from the ones that were just drawings of him to the actual important ones he needed to read urgently. It was a whole process, and Mumbo was glad it wasn't him who had to do it, though he did feel bad for the person who did.

Maybe that's what made him different from the old king. That caring. But it didn't make him feel special. It was just basic decency to worry and make sure everything was alright. Right? It didn't make any sense why someone wouldn't do that. Scar did it, and his personality differed from Mumbo's in almost every way. He was confident where Mumbo was hesitant, and that was in most things. Mumbo didn't know where he'd be without Scar as his right hand man. His left side always remained empty, just in case. Anyway, no one but Grian could ever fill it, even if he never would come back.

He wrote a lot. To other kingdoms, about trade routes and keeping peace, to fans in response to the pictures, though no matter how much he tried to get through them, there always seemed to be more arriving. Mumbo had no idea why he was so popular, but at least it meant he hardly got death threats. Probably. If there had been some, it had never gotten to him, and been dealt with by the castle guard. It was such a strange life, this, compared to the one he used to live in. A street kid, stealing apples and tinkering with whatever odd devices he happened to get his hands on. Life had been so simple back then, and though it had been harder to get by, Mumbo also vaguely considered that he might have been happier. After all, he'd had both his friends.

Yet that was the way of the world. A world, not uncaring, but unable to stop turning. The mourning had to come to an end, and eventually Mumbo, as well as Scar, but he showed it in other ways, through paintings and smiles, continued without it. It took quite some time, obviously, and they still grieved when the memory was strong. But they had to accept it, because what other choice was there to take? So take it they did, and bore the burden that came with it.

Scar had always been more accepting than Mumbo, and "moved on", quicker. It wasn't by choice, he knew, but it was just how Scar was. Mumbo understood that. But he couldn't ever truly believe it himself. And that might've been a good thing. Especially on one day, when he was sorting through letters, because he didn't have anything else on and would feel bad to bother someone. Of course, he found a letter that stood out. There were plenty of those. This one stood out because of how much it didn't. It was written in scratchy handwriting, rushed and near illegible. The envelope was in a similar condition, not at all neat. Still, he tried to read it, if only out of politeness for whoever this stranger was. It was his duty as king to attempt to read the letters of his subjects, however boring or random or suspicious. Kind of. It was more of a self inflicted duty.

The contents of the letter were nothing like that. Shocking, maybe, horrifying, yes, but not boring, and certainly not a lie. It was too specific and rambling and chaotic and recognisable to be a lie.

Oh gods. He'd have to get Scar.

I am having AU brainrot and I must share it.

So it’s bedrock bros God of War basically. Obviously Kratos is Techno and Atreus is Tommy and the plot is pretty similar but there are some things that are different that changes some things.

First off, Tommy was given to Techno by the goddess of Death (Kristen) not his (technically) biological son. (Although this is kind of obsolete because of Reasons, Tommy is Basically his bio son without him having actually…created him)

Secondly, Techno named Tommy Theseus, but the woman who raised him gave him the nickname of Tommy. The woman who raised him is Not Technos wife, but just a woman he trusted to take care of Tommy, named Clara. She dies, obviously, leaving Techno to come pick up the kid he should’ve been raising.

Techno, instead of having the title of God of War, instead has the title of God of Blood. Instead of his skin being stained white by the ashes of his family, his hair was stained red by the blood of the innocent he slaughtered. As this story is later in the future, his hair has lightened to more of a pink color :)

Also, instead of Realms, it’s dimensions, of course the ones we know and love, Overworld, Nether, and End, but there will be a couple ones that might also be familiar that I won’t spoil :)))))

Anyways, Technos home dimension is the nether, because he was born piglin and the ‘gods’ that he killed there were all the leaders/rulers of the respective mobs of the nether, including his own father.

One of the most crucial things that is different is of course the Voices. Sticking with the popular headcanon, the voices in Technos head are people who have died/he has killed or caused the deaths for. These voices can send him into a rage where he goes blind with bloodlust and kills everything around him. Despite the fact that this has not happened in many many years and the fact that he has much more control over them, he is still deathly afraid of losing himself to them once more. So that’s why, instead of raising the son he was given, he instead gives him away, believing that anywhere would be safer than by his side.

There’s a bunch more subtle and huge changes I have planned, but I really need to start writing this shit down and legitimately planning before I can spoil anymore lol.

Look out for when the first chapter comes out, I already have it completely planned but I want to plan a couple more chapters (at least 5-6) before I start really getting into the writing of it. Hopefully, by doing so, I can bring out a more fully fleshed out story that will be much more enjoyable to read.

How have the Boltons not been offed by their peasants or even other nobles

Like they have such a bad reputation, and Roose raped that woman and had Ramsay. How have they survived to the present day?

Well several reasons, sorry for the length of this one lol.

First it's like - well how did Queen Mary get away with all the religious burnings (how does any monarch who was particularly burn happy get away with it)? How did Ferdinand VII manage to keep his head? Why did King Leopold II's reputation remain in good standing despite him ultimately being forced out of the Congo Free State because of how god awful he was even by colonial standards?

Roose has wealth. He has power. He has the backing of his liege lord so long as Ned (or Robb or Rickard) don't find out the worst of his behavior (and none of those three are looking closely so he has a lot of wiggle room!). Notable that Ramsay's mom is some random peasant and not, say, a Ryswell or Manderly, or even a Fenn or Cassell. Yes, rape is illegal but it's not like rapists get their comeuppance in the modern day much less when the word "rape" was even more limited in its meaning. The reason even the smallfolk were helping oust Aerys is because Aerys really and truly sucked as a monarch. Upholding that social contract is important and Aerys was openly murdering not just lower lords and peasants but lords paramount and their heirs. So one gets ousted, and the other gets swept under the rug.

Now one thing I DO think is really lacking from the series is popular revolts but I think there's a chance we get a bunch in the next two books - technically speaking, we do have two kinda cooking already in the Brotherhood and the Faith Militant. As you say - Roose really goddamn sucks and Ramsay is a lot worse. And historically, there was a period in the middle ages where popular revolts happened a lot more often than in earlier or later periods - starting around the 1300s and moving into the late 1500s (aka right around when this whole series is based on - the war of the roses happens in the 1400s), there were probably hundreds of riots that lead into greater revolts led by the peasantry. There's several reasons these started happening. Religious conflict, constant warfare, the black death, famines, and most pressing of all, the rise of a noble class. Many nobles, like Roose, would pass the higher cost of sustaining their lifestyle onto the peasant class. for example, by raising taxes or imposing random taxes. This led to a poorer peasantry, and social stratification became more extreme. Again, not a medieval expert even a little bit (wouldn't even call myself an amateur historian) but I believe this is also when the switch up from nobility being on the more paternalistic side to actively resenting and hating the peasant class for like, existing and being poor. That combined with a plague they couldn't shake off, and a series of wars and famines, made for a very angry peasantry that was a lot more willing to come together and start chopping bitches' heads off.

And what do we have in ASOIAF? Because note - sure not every king in the 200s was a good king but the Blackfyre wars are just waay less violent than the wars before, and with significantly less petty wars, on the whole, I think the peasantry is dying significantly less. Yes, there are still occasional mass starvation and plague incidents - specifically during Aegon III and Daeron II's reigns - but I think when you look at the broader picture, Westeros is like. Fine. It could be worse - or that's what I imagine a lot of peasants are feeling. But recent history....

The War of 5 Kings, which can honestly trace its roots directly back to Robert's Rebellion, has not only dragged on for a while, it's had several bloody, god awful, horrific incidents, and come the end of feastdance, it is not on track to end any time soon.

Everyone is poor right now, even the rich - the books really drive that home with all the iron bank stuff, and how much the crown owes, and all the worries over winter. That's only going to get worse.

I believe it's a show only line but I also believe he says something similar in the books - "We have enough grain to feed the peasants for three years. If winter lasts longer than that, we'll have fewer peasants." The point here is - they don't care how many peasants die. That's a far cry from the whole "When there was a stark in winterfell a maid could walk naked as her nameday unaccosted." There's a shift here and the smallfolk are taking note of it!

We have not one but TWO flashpoints for potential greyscale outbreaks in Shireen and JonCon (and who knows if the pale mare will spread out of the Ghiscari Bay, but a plague on that level is going to impact the rest of the world regardless of if it spreads).

All that to say....bad people get to continue on being bad due to (a lot of reasons really) the apathy and laziness of others. But Westeros is primed for a series of really extreme peasant revolts and between the coming winter and the north getting Fed Up, I don't think House Bolton is long for this world.

here's a rant about the pressure community

I've been kinda lurking on pressure twitter for the past few weeks while all this shit went down and i just gotta say... jesus fuck.

I practically had a heart attack as soon as i opened my phone when i woke up and saw zeal was trying to sell pressure. Considering how he changed his profile last night to a strictly corporate one and then this? It seemed like a really hasty decision, and something serious was going on with him.

And yknow what, with all the hate being directed at him right now i don't blame him one fucking bit. I'd probably end up doing the same thing if i was in his shoes. Being autistic as well, i would just want to completely distance myself from this overwhelming bullshit. I think that's why he started to distance himself from the community in the first place (which unfortunately is kinda what led to some issues getting overlooked).

The tweet was deleted and pressure isn't for sale anymore thank GOD, but I'm honestly more worried about the actual people behind pressure than the game itself.

I agree that there's issues they need to fix, but its not an entirely black and white situation, and its pretty fucking complicated. With the sheer amount of people in the community its crazy to expect them to handle and manage everything themself, especially since they blew up in popularity in such a short amount of time, how the hell would they know how to deal with this???

Yes, there are certain things they need to actually address and take responsibility for that they sort of haven't, but attacking them to where it gets to this point isn't the fucking answer.

I wouldn't blame any of the devs if they never touch the game again, the way the community has treated them and has completely blown things out of proportion is insane. I feel like the main issue is the discord server itself but that's just me. From what I've seen its mostly just the community self cannibalizing, attacking each other, sending death threats, and doxxing people over shit that literally doesn't matter at all.

I'm not one to really delve into fandom drama, but this whole issue with certain possessive Sebastian fans and those who took it upon themselves to attack those fans is the stupidest fucking conflict I've ever seen in any fandom. Especially when this stuff reaches the people who work on the games who have nothing to do with it.

I agree that this is something the devs need to talk about head on with full transparency, no matter their feelings on it, because a main problem I've seen with them is lack of community management.

But again, y'all are forgetting the devs are REAL FUCKING PEOPLE, people who are bound to make mistakes, and get overwhelmed, and not know how to deal with suddenly having a giant fanbase. Harassing them and sending death threats is going way too fucking far and wont solve anything, because clearly all its done is made things worse.

Also god forbid they have boundaries and don't want to see certain things in the discord server. I'm not gonna get into the specifics, but as a queer trans person I think some of y'all are reading too much into the things they don't allow, seriously.

Reminder, I'm saying all this as someone who self-ships with Sebastian, and who's not entirely thrilled about him being canonically married. BUT PRIORITIZING A FICTIONAL CHARACTER OVER REAL PEOPLE????? THE FUCK IS WRONG WITH YALL???

And to the people I've seen disappointed in zeal's response to all this on twitter, I'm with you, not seeing whats happening in the community doesn't mean these problems don't exist. But think about the shit he's going through, put yourself in his shoes and genuinely try to understand how fucking overwhelming this whole situation is, for him and the rest of the team. Especially after what's happened in the past 24 hours.

Tangent, but am i the only one who's seen a drastic change in the way fandom communities operate in the past few years? Like after lockdown fandom spaces have gotten more and more hostile, and people are just being so fucking mean to each other over the most trivial shit??? Listen I Get being chronically online, because i am, but at a certain point you just gotta log the fuck off and touch some grass, man. christ.

I really hope the devs take a break, they need it. I was excited about the update that was supposed to come out this month but I don't think it will now, and I honestly don't think we deserve it.

TL;DR: Pressure fandom, do better. Speaking from both points of view, no matter the various mistakes the dev team has made, the majority of this is on y'all.

And lastly, I'd honestly rather keep pressure exactly the way it is with no updates and no new stuff ever again than for it to turn into roblox slop like most of the games that are sold off on that platform.

Explanations under the cut

Astarion: Thief of Blood.  Along with the obvious fact that he steals literal blood, his initial plan is to manipulate the player into liking him, “stealing” a bond with them for his protection.  And that was basically his m.o. for 200 years.  If he Ascends, he would turn into a Lord of Blood

Shadowheart: Maid of Heart.  I imagine that she’s spent most of her life inverted as a Bard of Mind, allowing her mind to be destroyed by the Sharrans.  The Maid of Heart is, well, made of their own identity.  It’s a creation class, and Shart is spending the rest of her life creating herself.  If she became a Dark Justiciar, she would remain a Bard of Mind

Gale: Mage of Light.  The active understanding class and the knowledge aspect fit the resident nerd of the group, don’t you think?  He’s probably the smartest party member (in terms of academic/theoretic knowledge) and uses that knowledge to power his magic.  In addition, Light is associated with relevancy and acknowledgement and boy oh boy was he desperate for Mystra’s.  If he becomes the God of Ambition, he would turn into a Lord of Light

Lae’zel: Prince of Breath.  I know the general understanding of Prince is that they destroy the aspect, but I understand them as also being able to destroy through use of their aspect.  Lae’zel is destroying Vlaakith’s empire by freeing the githyanki people and leading a revolution.  Maybe a bit of a stretch, but I was trying to avoid overlap for the origin characters.  I could also see her as a Knight or Prince of Blood

Karlach: Knight of Rage.  She’s a berserker, she fights by utilizing rage.  And the popular idea that Knights start out lacking in their aspect is pretty apt too, she’s an extremely positive person while Rage is all about more negative emotions.  I think she might ghost her inverted class- Rogue of Hope- but never fully inverts, just toys with distributing hope and positivity.

Wyll: Heir of Hope.  I fully admit Wyll kinda got the short end of the stick as he was the last character I did, but I do think it fits.  Heirs passively manipulate or inspire their aspect in others, and Wyll fights for the people as the Blade of Frontiers, inspiring Hope in those he protects.  I could also see him as a Blood aspect, as so much of his story deals with his bonds- to his father, Mizora, Baldur’s Gate and the people of the Coast

Minthara: Maid of Doom.  This is where I stopped caring about overlap lol.  Minthara is your most “evil” companion and one who approves of killing people in your way.  Doom was a pretty clear choice for her, being the Aspect of death, but also dealing with systems and authority, like the Cult of the Absolute and her place in its hierarchy.  As for her class, Maids create their aspect and make it a core part of themselves.  Minthara has been surrounded by death and hierarchies her whole life, having been born to a high ranking noble house in Menzoberranzan, leading to them being a very core part of her being.  I can also see her vacillating wildly between Maid of Doom and her inverse, Bard of Life, because she’s just that chaotic.  They both deal with death, but the Bard is a bit more passive about it, allowing others (the Cult, the player) to take lead on the killing

Halsin: Knight of Breath.  Again running with the “Knights lack their Aspect” theory, Halsin starts the game lacking the freedom he desires.  He’s literally imprisoned by the goblins, but he’s also constrained by his role as Archdruid, almost toying with his inverse of Rogue of Blood.  He craves the freedom of nature and jumps at the opportunity to gain it.  You could also argue wildshape is a form of freedom (both of form and of self) that he uses to fight.  There’s also his talk of polyamory and how he doesn’t want to be tied down.  Freedom is a recurring thing with the guy

Jaheira: Witch of Life.  Life is a pretty clear choice for a druid, as Life deals with flora and fauna.  Witch is the active manipulation class, and Jaheira is introduced manipulating plants to hold the player.  Additionally, she’s shown nurturing life by caring for various children in Baldur’s Gate, sorta like how Feferi took care of various marine animals

Minsc: Knight of Hope.  Okay this was the hardest one for me because I don’t fully get Minsc.  I’ve only played BG3, I don’t know him from any other games or comics or whatever.  But from what I do know, he was obviously one of the more offensive and active classes and Knight seems to fit him best.  He utilizes Hope- usually in the form of others’ trust in him- to fight.  Without that trust, he wouldn’t be as effective, he always fights best with his companions.  He’s also just a happy, up-beat guy, and Hope is largely focused on positive emotions

Boo: Lord of Doom.  BOO DECIDES THE FATE OF ALL.  HE HAS ULTIMATE SAY OVER LIFE AND DEATH

In my TD Wicked au, why tf do I think Heather should be Elphaba instead of Gwen??

Just a little post I thought I should make after going through the Wicked tag on here and thinking that I should probably explain myself when it comes to the character choices; and ultimately this is just for some fun character analysis and discourse.

Why I think Heather is more synonymous with Elphaba’s character than Gwen is

Yes, Gwen is a loner with rebellious tendencies; not to mention she was the outcast goth girl in season one. Not to mention she and Courtney are a popular Yuri ship in the same way Elphaba and Glinda are. Also, while we’re playing off of Courtney being Glinda, then that would make Duncan Fiyero, both of which are initially in a relationship with Courtney/Glinda, but then after some character development end up falling for Gwen/Elphaba. 

The problem I have with this is, simply, I am not a Gwuncan fan; I respect/tolerate it more than I did when I was a teenager, but I am still a Duncney Stan through and through, thus in my heart they are endgame. So, no, Gwen cannot be Elphaba, not while I’m the master of this au.

Now HEATHER on the other hand can still work just as well, if not better and here’s a little on why.

First off, Heather is mostly a villain throughout the show, but like Elphaba she wasn’t born evil; in fact they had a pretty similar upbringing all things considered.

Both characters were born to wealthy households, but were ostracized and bullied throughout their childhoods; Elphaba for being green and Heather for being overweight, and neither got the parental love that was deserved. Elphaba’s father blamed her for the death of her and Nessarose’s mother and for the latter being born paralyzed, and from how they act in the video call from home, both of Heather’s parents clearly communicate that they don’t miss her in the slightest and it is popularly consensus among the fandom that they were negligent/emotionally abusive to her growing up.

So we have two characters who were told nonstop growing that they are unable to love or be loved; unworthy, and the source of everyone’s problems around them. Eventually they are going to give in and start playing the part. Of course Elphaba was/is never truly evil and this is only propaganda employed by the Wizard, whereas Heather obviously starts out as a bully and gives other characters plenty of reason to hate/distrust her. However, she does lighten up as the show progresses, and a big parallel I see of her and Elphaba’s character is how when she tries to warn other contestants in World Tour about Alejandro’s true nature, everyone blows her off, just as how Elphaba has no chance at convincing the citizens of Oz of the Wizard’s lack of real power and hidden agenda, because they are already weary of her as it is, which makes it so easy for his cabinet to employ such a powerful smear campaign against her and make her out to be a ‘Wicked Witch.’

Now onto Elphaba x Fiyero….as I’ve said before under a previous post, Alejandro is DEFINITELY Fiyero. I’m still giddy from all their interactions when I watched the movie and I just love how they were able to flesh out the relationship a little more since they were not limited to a live stage production.

What does everyone at Shiz view Fiyero as? A perfect, charismatic prince who has it all; albeit also shallow and self-absorbed.

What do the other contestants view Alejandro as? Perfect, charismatic and charming; but it is made no secret to the audience how conceited he is.

Elphaba and Heather see right through their facades that neither these men are who they make themselves out to be with only one person seeing the real them from the get go.

In response to the (really good!) story for Murders at Karlov Manor, I've been seeing some (thankfully limited) discourse on the same old tired argument that Magic story has no stakes because characters can die and then come back to life as a ghost or get (seemingly permanently) turned into robot monsters and then get better eventually.

People can obviously feel what they feel and believe what they believe about Magic story, but personally, I'm just so tired of this argument. Magic story is largely a marriage of high fantasy and superhero comics. These two types of literature have much in common, but one similarity stands out in my mind: the impermanence of character death. Comic book superheroes famously won't stay dead, and while this fact has been controversial for decades, it is nonetheless a cornerstone of the genre. And hell, even in The Lord of Rings - the god-emperor and founding text of the entire fantasy genre (for better or worse) - Tolkien's wizard OC Gandalf dies and comes back to life STRONGER ... nigh invincibly powerful (if LotR was written today, people would call Gandalf [and probably Aragorn for that matter] a Mary Sue).

This not my attempt to shill for a corporation, mind you. In contrast, I'd rather see MORE people complaining about things worth complaining about:

The increasing price of the game gatekeeping so many from the hobby

Hasbro firing 1,000 employees right before Christmas

WotC sending hired thugs to someone's house over a mistake the company itself made

The focus on the collectability of cards over how they play

And I'm not even saying there aren't aspects of Magic story itself worth critiquing. To note:

The enjoyability of its prose is inconsistent at times (reread the Magic Origins stories, for example)

The messaging is sometimes off (i.e. - the worst bad guys in the entire universe are folks who use science to make their bodies more in line with their view of themselves)

The stories - especially the big epic ones - are rarely given time to breathe, and the authors are clearly asked to do a lot with very little

War of the Spark: Forsaken

Maybe asking people to have a more nuanced take on the storyline of a children's card game is too much, but I think that "story bad" is far too dismissive. I remember reading through the All Will Be One stories thinking: "Well, there is actually NO WAY WotC is going to kill off ALL of these characters that got phyrexianized." Jace and Ajani are literally two of the main characters of Magic; Nissa, Vraska, and Nahiri are maybe less popular and important to the overall setting, but they all nonetheless have their extremely devoted fans (me; I'm one of those fans; bet you can't guess of which 'walker). I find it a bit silly to assume that the mass permadeath of named characters would be how the Phyrexian arc would end. Modern Magic is just not the type of story where the creators will merc half of their cast just to appease certain sentiments about its literary value.

This post has turned into a lot of meandering nonsense, but here's what I'm largely trying to get across: I wish more people would accept Magic story for what it is, not for what they think it should be. I'm NOT saying people shouldn't have standards for their entertainment, but they also shouldn't expect Shakespeare* - or even Tolkien - from a story about wizard superheroes written to provide a backdrop for a children's card game.

*I also want to mention here: characters dying and then coming back is also present in Shakespeare.
