"The girl is a runaway clone of Tori, created to replicate Tori's knowledge and power." -- Anon

You mean Engel? WHY didn't I realize this???
I guess it's a question of who's behind this, if it's true. Ming? Abigail Gordon?
Keep the tips coming.

anon again! just a few more things nick has done in the duration i talked to him for:
- said “i’ve always liked girls your age” when i said i was 16
- trauma dumped during our first conversation
- sent me a pic of..
- said it was good that i was cutting myself
- constantly tried to make every conversation sexual
i used to be one of those lana del rey i love older men vibe girls but now i’m just sick and over it. hope you don’t mind the asks again, it’s the first time i’ve seen someone discuss his behaviour
*sighs a big ol' sigh* No, no, I don't mind at all. Like I mentioned at the end of the last Answer it's actually pretty relevant to what I write about, and given this new info, I'd say it's pretty damn important to blast. I just gotta take some Old Man Pills first. And smoke out...bc otherwise I'll get really angry again.🫠
Aight, point by point:
🚨 "I've always liked girls your age" 🤢 More stench of Humbert, and more evidence of his intentions. Humbert was a pedophile/hebephile, nickn0t seems to have admitted his ephebophilic feelings there.
🚨 Trauma dumping at first meet: I'm really not surprised, given that his letter was a huge sign that he's stuck in his own head/holding his own dick and not caring about whoever is his subject/target.
🚨 If dickn0t sent you a 🍆 pic:
That's probably the Cardinal Rule of engaging with minors online: Do not ever send your nudes/🍆 pics to minors. And if he knew you were 16 when he sent the pic, then I ride at midnight. ⚔️❤️🔥☠️❤️🔥⚔️
🚨 Cutting: I tried to get out of a relationship with a younger cutter after nothing I tried to do/say helped. She used to send me pics of her scars and once on facetime, she had freshly cut LARGE cuts along her forearm and I almost vomited...never did I tell her that it was good. In fact, I never told any of the cutters that I've known for over 35 years — this includes the girl who accused me of attempted 🔪 — that cutting was a 'good' thing; my own experience with it wasn't a good thing (I cut/carved a poem into my arm the day after I was beaten and thrown from my house by my father...oh wow, it's been just over 32 years). Does it provide psychic pain relief, ofc. But like most pain relief, it's temporary, and even though life has not treated you well enough to feel like you deserve to exist, you don't need to scar yourself with reminders of others' ignorance or callousness. I find directing the anger, sadness, and pain into creativity is much more relieving. Young ones cut, but it doesn't (usually) last into adulthood, which is when those most damaged often turn to other coping mechanisms. No destructive coping mechanism is a good thing, but as for advice on this, I don't have any bc everyone is different and there's no universal bandaid for trauma. I'd tell you to stop, but I know I don't have any purchasing power there. Just be safe🌻✨
🚨 "constantly tried to make every conversation sexual" Well, then we know what he's looking for.
According to my bio I said I'm a big pervert, and it's true. I do like my innuendos and flirting (hey, I'm a Gemini...we ✨flirt✨). And I hold a unique position in that I've been on both sides of this coin: I was the younger girl who chased after older men when I was your age, but I'm now the older man whose life was severely affected by younger women (my ex/the one I lived with for 10 years was 11 years younger than me). I know a thing or two about the sexual dynamics between younger/older, and what younger is looking for vs. what older (AMAB, by longtime observation) is looking for.
Nick's already shat on the thing that makes y'all so beautiful (your brains/your minds), so why waste your time with that? He says he's 40 in his bio. He's not a child by any standards. If young 😺 is all he's after, he needs to suck it up, stop bothering underage girls, and just go onto the multitude of free porn sites out there that have "18+" girls featured. Plenty of free fodder for what he wants/needs to do.
You were good to get out of that situation, but so long as he remains on here prowling for students, there will be more of this 💩. Save/screenshot everything, because according to the law, you're not culpable for the 🍆 pics or unsolicited explicit chats that he sends you, but he is.
#nickn0t#again#anon asks#anon ask#anon answered#anonymous tips#his new name in my head is dickn0t#bc his dick needs to be tied into a knot#and he needs to GTFO of tumblr bc he's not going to find what he's looking for without consequences#dude is bad news#and probably worse than the dudes who wear their hawk badges on their lapels#i.e. the grossest guys who post gross shit about young girls out in the open without his melancholy woeboating#there's always more isn't there#😮💨

hello! can i ask if you do lineart first OR lay down shapes and then do your lineart when you paint, or is your specific process included in one of your pdfs?
i do both, it depends on the style i'm going for!
but usually for my painty style if i already have an idea of what i want, i just do a rough sketch and then go straight to putting down big blocks of color and refine lines along the way ^^)

Fandom has a same face problem and Rick isn’t all the descriptive Jason and Luke were drawn similarly for a long time. A lot of the white characters just all sound the same to me until TOA where he seem to try to be better.
It's less same-face or even Rick's descriptions. For Jason, it's extremely intentional that he's described similarly to Luke; it serves a narrative purpose. Everybody else has different descriptions. (The real egregious example of his is that nearly all his redhead characters are almost identical.) The fandom just has bad character design etiquette. Same Face isn't nearly as much of a problem if everything else about the character is different, but the fandom rarely varies anything else if anything at all. Sometimes they actively lessen the difference between characters - the amount of times I've seen a lineup of the Argo II girls and they all have the exact same skin tone and hair color and eye color and body type. Or the amount that characters actively described as having different body types (Jason [very muscular], Frank & Meg [fat], Clarisse [plus-sized], Nico & Leo [small and scrawny], Mr. D [pot-bellied] & the Dionysus twins [resembling their father], Magnus [tall], etc etc) are all instead given identical figures.
I suspect part of it is because the fandom back in the day was HEAVILY influenced by old anime fandoms and it never really shook that inspiration - which is why a lot of the classic PJO fan designs look the way they do. But this also means everybody has chronic same-face and same-body type and the fandom never grew out of it.
The solution to this is obviously... well. just get better at it. Explore experimenting with it. Broaden your horizons. I have literally studied specifically character design professionally and if people would like specific tips or advice I'd be happy to oblige. For pjo fandom my number one suggestion would be the silhouette trick - if you translate the design into silhouette it should still be clear who the character is. For example, here's my lineup of the Seven silhouetted:
This isn't even a great example (i could stand to push the designs further and their poses aren't ideal for this exercise) but you can STILL tell who is who. Beyond anything else if you can vary their silhouettes to be distinct enough then you're doing great.
#pjo#riordanverse#fandom crit#my art#Anonymous#ask#genuinely if people want me to explain char design tips or suggestions for specific characters or etc feel free to ask#genuinely im tempted to make a video about this cause im not sure my points about it can be constrained to text and images

In one of your recent posts, you said something about thinking that Machete is doomed to repeat his mistake of choosing a joyless and soul-sucking career path in the modern AU (albeit without the disastrous outcome of his original timeline).
I like to think that eventually, he changes to something less "high-achieving" but more aligned with his passions. Perhaps he learns that the stress is affecting his health and could eventually shorten his time with Vasco. I don't know, I like to believe that Vasco would succeed in encouraging him to leave that toxic environment the way he wasn't able to in canon. What do you think?
Oh I like that idea! He'd get tunnel visioned to having a successful career just like in the original setting, but this time around he has the sense, guts and freedom to change the trajectory. Managing to avert the sunk cost fallacy that kept his former self tightly leashed.
Vasco could try to talk sense into him when he sees him getting sucked deeper into workaholism, but ultimately it's up to Machete himself to see that his work is actively harming him and their relationship and to make the pivotal decision to climb out of the simmering pot.
It's also fun to think about him in between jobs, with excess free time for the first time since he was little, a state that is uncomfortable and unnatural to him. Just existing and trying to figure out what he actually wants to do with his life. Maybe this is the point where he'd get really into baking. Or he'd spend his days religiously cleaning their apartment in order to still feel useful and in control. Listening to fashion history podcasts while scrubbing the grout between the tiles of their bathroom for the third time this month.
#answered#anonymous#modern au#Vaschete scenarios#I dunno why but the Machete unemployment arc is making me grin#make the q-tip grapple with the idea of his inherent worth not being tied to his profession and productivity#he's regretting quitting and fretting and moping about the state of things and how he's ruined his life#but eventually things work out alright and he ends up in a place where he isn't put through the wringer on a regular basis#good job you did it

Omg I love your comic art! All the colours are so nice to look at and it’s such a joy to read
Do you have any tips for drawing dynamic poses? Like characters fighting in a cool way or doing a flip or something? I’m sorry to ask but the way you draw poses is so amazing and I love it
Well, I personally suck at dynamic poses imho but I guess we all really are our own worst critics. This is another ask I had to sit on for a bit (it's a day old) because I had absolutely no idea how to put into words what I do.
I can't say much beyond what the most basic sorta, like, put down a line of action (a line that summarizes the entire pose in a single stroke) and work from that.
Example from Animator Island
Try to keep the silhouette clear, if you can. That helps a lot. In order to do that, you just need to avoid too much overlap with your character and themself. Like, limbs and stuff.
Like, you can clearly see most of Sonic's limbs here, you feel me? His silhouette, if I were to block it out, is pretty clear. You can get a general gist of what he's doing here.
I think moving a character's whole body with an action (jumping, punching, catching something heavy, falling etc) is the thing to keep in your head about it. consider how heavy limbs may be, how much force is behind an action, all that.
Anyway, uh, good luck! Check out my favorite tutorial guys! They may have some stuff in there you'll find helpful!

Ugh.
Because the scam bots are going anonymous to try and avoid getting blocked (or reported), here is a very simple way to block their scrunchy asses on desktop regardless.
(This also works for any anonymous who is being stupid in your inbox.)
Step 1:
Before answering or deleting an anonymous ask, click the three dots in the top right corner of the ask.
Step 2:
Click Block sender in the dropdown menu and yeet them into the block abyss. Being anonymous doesn't save anyone from getting their blog blocked by you. This will also automatically remove the Ask from your inbox, so if it is one you want to save, make sure to take a screenshot of it.

How should you write/draw burn survivors? I know this isn't a drawing blog but I don't know of one that I could ask this question to.
Hello!
I'm not a burn survivor myself, so I'll mostly talk about facial differences/visible disability in general and link some stuff made by burn survivors.
First thing, I think it's important to remember that being a burn survivor changes a lot of things - not only appearance. Very important part is the psychological one, but I'm not a burn survivor so I will just let the resources linked below speak.
From the physical aspect, burns can also come with: chronic pain, limited range of motion due to scarring, tightened skin, problems with regulating temperature, itching, skin irritation, and even different nutritional needs during the initial healing process.
There is also specific everyday care associated with burns - something you basically never see in fiction. That could be things like occupational therapy, physical therapy, skincare (like heavy moisturizing and scar massaging), wearing sunblock, wearing splints, or stretching to prevent contractures or tightness.
There are also different types of burns and they (unsurprisingly) differ from each other - for example, electrical burns have a much higher rate of amputation than any other type. Chemical burns can cause eye issues. A burn caused by a fire in a closed space might result in a brain injury due to the lack of oxygen. A much larger portion of people than you (probably) assume have survived burn injuries as small children, and if they were young enough they might not even remember the event at all, unlike older people who might be very affected by the trauma.
Experiences of a person with 80% body surface burns, a person with quadruple amputations from an electrical burn, a person with a facial burn, and a person burnt very recently will be different from someone who has a 5% body surface 2nd degree burn in a spot that’s usually hidden, who has lived with their burn for a decade - despite them all being burn survivors.
When it comes to more thorough research, I recommend going through Phoenix Society’s and Face Equality International’s websites to learn more about both real burn survivor’s perspectives, and face equality as a social justice topic. I think the 3rd link (see below) puts it very well when talking about burn survivors being represented in fiction:
“Most likely, these characters were not created by someone with lived experience. The result is an increasingly garbled game of telephone [...] To avoid contributing to this false narrative, embrace research as part of the process. Explore interviews, first-person accounts, and articles from reliable sources.”
I personally think that the links below should be mandatory reading for writing not only burn survivors, not only people with facial differences, but visibly disabled people in general - because the treatment we get is often so similar the advice still holds up just fine. And if you don't plan on writing any of these, you should still read them to see how prevalent of a problem ableism in media is.
Lise Deguire's Hey Hollywood - scars don't make you evil.
Face Equality International's International Media Standard on Disfigurement.
Niki Averton's Tips for Writing about Burn Survivors.
The main sentiment that you will read from basically any first-hand source is that if you're writing the burn survivor to be either:
evil (just throw the whole character away)
a guy with the "World's Saddest Most Tragic Backstory Ever and It's So Sad and Tragic" (because he revealed he has a scar)
a helpless victim who is there to be The Helpless Victim
...then you're already doing it wrong and need to make some major changes.
From our blog's reblogs and posts, you might want to look at tips for writing a visibly different/disabled character and tips on drawing people with facial differences. Neither are specific to burn survivors but cover the topic of visible disability and facial differences.
Now for tips on drawing burn survivors (that weren't included in the last link);
Reference real people. 99.9% drawings of burn survivors seem to go through the same "increasingly garbled game of telephone" that Niki Averton mentions with how burn survivors are written, in that the newer the drawing, the less in common it has with how real people with burns look like because people reference from each other and none of them ever think to actually check if their depiction is accurate. If you just google "burn survivor" you will very quickly notice that burn survivors don't have that damn red overlay layer put on top of their skin. It just doesn't look like that, and basic research (aka Google Images search) will tell you that - and still, people color a hand with bright red and think that's how it looks like (it doesn't).
In the same vein, maybe don't just draw an able-bodied person and then put some scarring on top (or maybe do exactly that. No burn scar and no burn survivor is the same, and there are people that fit what I just described... but hear me out for a second). Think about how scars interact with their features - do they have both of their ears? Do they still have all of their hair? Do they only have parts of their eyebrow? Do they have all of their fingers? Can they move the same as before their burn, or are their scars limiting their joints? How did their body react to the post-burn hypermetabolism? Lots to think about. Take into account what type and thickness of burns your character has.
Ditch the mask trope. Just ditch it. There's no need to cover your character's scar from the world unless you as the author think it requires to be hidden, is too scary to show, or other ableist trope that seems to always come up with drawings of visibly disabled people, especially burn survivors. The one exception I will mention is a transparent face orthosis/mask (TFO) that facial burn survivors might wear while awaiting a skin graft early after their injury. But as the name suggests, it's transparent and doesn't work for the "scary facial difference, better cover it up and only reveal it in some hyper dramatic scene!" trope because you can see right through it. (I will also mention that TFOs are a very modern thing. Your medieval burn survivor wouldn't be wearing one).
No "body horror", no "gore" tags or trigger warnings or whatever. That's a human being. If you feel the need to warn your followers before they see a disabled person existing, you're better off not drawing them.
Some last notes;
Throughout this ask I used the term "burn survivor" rather than "burn victim" because that is, to my knowledge, the general community preferred phrase. Individual opinions will differ (because no group is a monolith) but "burn survivor" is generally the safest term to use and probably the best if talking about a fictional character.
Similarly, I used "facial difference" rather than "disfigurement". Just as the above, opinions will differ on what is the best to use but I personally, as someone with facial asymmetry and a cranial nerve disorder, heavily prefer the term "facial difference" over "disfigurement". (I am in this case The Individual Opinion Differing because you can notice that in the links above, facial difference and disfigurement are used interchangeably. The general community uses both, some people have specific preferences. I'm some people). When talking about a fictional character, "facial difference", "visible difference" and "disfigurement" are all probably fine. Just stay away from calling a person "deformed".

Cool RPC Fact!
It's not elitist to set boundaries and be selective with who you interact with.
There's zero reason to go on anonymous pestering someone on why they don't follow people back, or, arguably worse, vagueblogging about it. Guess what; roleplaying is a collaborative hobby. You need to cope with the fact that not everyone will be interested in writing with you.
Why? Who cares. I assure you that there will be someone out there who will be willing to write with you, but I can also assure you that obfuscating the term 'elitism' with 'someone who might just wanna roleplay with friends' and having an attitude towards people who don't engage with you isn't gonna make people crowd towards you. Maybe people can only handle having so many rp partners at a time. You don't know, and you don't need to know.
Cultivate your own communities. Learn to accept silent rejection. Read people's rules pages when it comes to their rules on interactions, exclusives, whatever. It's their blog. Not yours. You can set all of the rules you want on your blog, and people can do the same on theirs. It's 2024. The world doesn't revolve around you, every blog has someone behind it who has their own boundaries for their own reasons.
#rp psa#rp tips#not a meme#sorry I'm seeing more fucking anons going 'HEY WHAT DICTATES WHO AND WHO YOU DONT FOLLOW BACK' like uhhhhhhhhhh#a lot of people are hypocrites like how would you feel if you got an anonymous message like that

anything with wing clipping. i once tried to do research on it for a fic and,, it is SO angsty
i got u fam <333 (i have way too much brainrot on this bear with me LMAO)
tips for writing ✨wingfics✨
!!please credit/tag me if you use this!! i'd love to see what you write!!
physical differences:
area where wings connect to their back is insanely sensitive!!
feathers falling e v e r y w h e r e
wings are big!! if the wearer hasn't had them for long, or is younger/inexperienced, they're gonna knock shit over
~birb noises~
they're actually really good singers with insane lung capacity, a lot of them are/could be opera singers
thin bones, so they're super light and even though most think it's embarrassing to be picked up so easily there's always One Dude who's like 'carry me everywhere'
smaller birds = smaller people. most wings correspond to a specific species, and hummingbird varieties are notoriously short (though never say that to their face, they will probably murder you <3)
unless the avian is a kind of waterbird (penguins, sometimes eagles) going into water will clog their wings and they could drown!! adding onto this i imagine that avians have special bathtubs and brushes and stuff so that they can properly clean their wings
on the flip side if an avian does NOT clean their wings they can get tangled or matted which a) is super painful b) could impact their flying and c) could cause sickness !!
dislocated wings >:(( this happens about as often as dislocated shoulders do with regular people. this can be caused by a couple things like blunt force, trying to manuever/twist wings in ways they aren't supposed to go, or flying too often/straining wings.
psychological differences:
preening!! it's intimate, but doesn't have to be romantic/sexual. obv there is room for very fluffy and romantic moments but it can be either way
flock!!! it's kinda like a family or a pack
the urge to Make a Nest and Only Let the Flock In
once the Flock is In the Nest then the Flock Will Not Leave Ever
molting!! old feathers fall out to allow new ones to grow in !
molting is basically the bird version of a period except all birds have it once or twice a year. they're more emotional, super sensitive, and extra clingy during molting!!
if an avian gives you one of their feathers it's basically a version of marriage, except it doesnt have to be romantic. its essentially a promise, like a 'we're with each other forever' kinda thing.
just as humans have discrimination, i imagine that avians have it too. more common species like songbirds, ravens, or crows are probably valued in society way less than those like eagles, doves, or parrots, and there could also be stereotypes against species like vultures or condors.
on wing clipping:
in my mind wing clipping is a lot like trimming your fingernails realllly sloppily, except the difference is that you should NEVER clip an avian's wings.
what i mean by fingernails is that the nails themselves don't hurt but if you do it sloppily there are Consequences: clipped too short -> irritated skin. clipped inconsistently -> sharp edges, snags on everything INCLUDING other feathers
huge violation of boundaries/self!! clipped wings -> can't fly. flying is integral to avian health and if they can't fly their mood and mental health will fall drastically.
clipped feathers take a long time to grow back, and therefore clipping has long-term effects. it also damages the feathers themselves (obviously) in ways that sometimes can't be healed
if an avian's wings are clipped their trust goes DOWN and their insecurity goes UP. its likely that if someone else tries to touch their wings they will freak out
clipped wings also make avians more jumpy and paranoid because they've lost their major way to escape/protect themselves: flying away.
angst potentials in wingfics (spoiler: there's a lot):
like i said, clipped wings -> can't fly. write about an avian's first time flying again. (not super angsty but still)
SUPER angsty: write about the actual act of wing clipping.
an avian is neglecting their wing care and tries to hide it.
relationship between a 'noble' avian (eagle, dove, etc) and a 'basic' avian (crow, raven, etc) and society's dislike of the relationship.
or maybe avians are a minority in a human world, and an avian has to hide their wings to be safe.
hope this helped!! <33
