Another Burning of the Library AMV!
Okay, so, the amazing @wixenforever was talking with @that1notetaker about some stuff, and I saw it, and my brain went braining. So they were mentioning stuff with the Nott family tree, it burning/being cut away, so now I had this idea with the song Burn by Tom Walker and that made me see and picture things. Behold my continued obsession and bullshit lmfao. P.S. I'll try to keep it vague for spoilers haha
-
-
So, this is set during chapter 13 of the fic and the attack itself. And, I had this idea and Lee mentioned that it would work as a cool anime opening and such, so kinda have that as the frame I guess.
I watch as my world's going up in flames Through the black smoke I can see your face Embers they rain as the walls come down Where do we go when the lights go out?
So, this first section of the lyrics. Honestly, I like the idea that it starts with Magnus trapped by the attackers for the first line or two. Within the circle, being taunted, maybe with flashes of past enemies that he has and hasn't dealt with yet. He's a paranoid man, after all.
Then it goes to the next two sets of lyrics, and that's flashing to the Nott Family Tapestry (I like to think it's something more solid than the Black Family's, not necessarily stone but maybe carved into tablets and such? idk). And Magnus' picture/name gets melted/burned/chipped off by the Fiend Fire. We see scorch marks, remnants of names that flash whole before returning to ruin.
I gave you my blood, my sweat, my tears And all you ever did was leave me here Set me on fire 'cause you love the hurt Set me on fire just to watch me
Again, going in pairs within sections, I like these first two as Theo coming down to see Magnus trapped. Seeing this man, who's so strong and powerful yet is helpless at this point. Honestly, kind of seeming resigned and welcoming of his fate to an extent. And there's flashes of the 'Dark Years' and all the hurt.
But Theo's strong, all those things have made him strong. So he squares his shoulders, he pulls out his wand. He tries to fight.
On my knees, my heart, it bleeds While you pour gasoline all over me (oh) Set me on fire 'cause you love the hurt Set me on fire just to watch me Burn Burn
And this is that classic anime fight scene in openings. It's Theo in the Tower, trying to fight, being beaten back as the fire spreads and is created. He's running, ducking and dodging, trying to get through. But as that second 'Burn' hits, it's him falling into blackness as the Fiend Fire snaps towards him, cutting to black for a moment. The camera flashes to the tapestry, Theo's name becoming singed and starting to burn as flames lick around it.
What would you do if you lost control? How would you feel if your dreams were sold? With both your hands tied and your taped up mouth You've gotta even feel how I'm feeling now
Honestly? Give me Graham and Magnus wiping out his family. And this is from Graham's perspective as he watches the modern events, his brother trapped and killed, his nephew fighting and losing. The house and Tower burning. And it's him, for those first two lines, talking to Magnus. Maybe too spiteful for the situation, but I think it'd be fitting. But then, the flames claim him too. And it flashes, again, to the tapestry where his name is fully snuffed out.
We can't really do it this way, but I think the 2nd and 4th lines as showing Ophelia. The mementoes that were left behind, the keepsakes and memories within Theo's room, Magnus', and anywhere else that had been left behind. All of them burning and turning ot cinders, ash blowing in the wind. Her name, face, memory is eaten by the flames.
I gave you my blood, my sweat, my tears And all you ever did was leave me here (oh) Set me on fire 'cause you love the hurt Set me on fire just to watch me
So, these first two lines. Theo is floating, in a bubble, within blackness and no seeing or hearing anything. The ruins, reduced to the bedrock, are the only thing that seems to remain. But the rocks shift, the earth tensing and protecting the bubble that Theo is within, deep deep underground. And on top, the Prophet's report flutters by. It holds for a second, to see the headline and a picture of the flames, before it settles on a ruined rock.
Then the wind blows it just so, and underneath is Theo's name and portrait, singed and marked, changed and not quite whole anymore, but still there. Undeniably there still.
And then we go to the chorus again, and it's Theo waking up within the hideout. He doesn't remember much, doesn't know who attacked, just has information given to him and incomplete memories that seem to point in that direction. But his house is gone, his family in brimstone, and it hurts. He's recovering, slowly, far too slow for his liking.
On my knees, my heart, it bleeds While you pour gasoline all over me Set me on fire 'cause you love the hurt Set me on first just to watch me Burn Burn
And then, the final bits... I'm not quite sure where to go with it. I like the idea of it flashing through Theo with the Library in future events, him with the gang (both green and red), flashes of Dumbledore/Voldemort/Snape/The Attackers. Flashes of him training, learning, preparing.
Until the title card flashes with the final "Burn"'s that are screamed. Where it's the poster, with Theo and the Enemy as the centerpiece, with everyone else arrayed ever into the background. Harry and John are close by, Draco and Blaise, Dumbledore and Voldemort and over it all, watching the proceedings like the chessmasters observing their board that they are.
-
And there we have it, the idea that a simple idea and family tree spawned. Hopefully you enjoyed lmfao.

Holy shit! omg? wtf? This is so good! How did you get Blaise to not come off like a dick with how much he was pushing it? Like, he was pushing things so far but in just the right way to not be a complete and utter wanker about it? What black (Black family?) magic is this hahaha.
And then Draco just refusing to participate at all in this. I can just imagine him going "Nope, I flew in coach for him right before term started, you can risk death this time." Lmfao. And just all of Theo's dialogue after the death stare—which is so menacing wtf?—is so perfect?
Like that is what I mean with songs like Hurricane and the others that are about Harry being a pawn for Dumbledore but also trying not to be anymore. Like that is just so perfectly what I've always seen for their relationship with Theo just stepping up with the knowledge (and power at times) to change the board or game entirely because "Fuck you, Harry's a person too, and I will not allow you to use him like this."

SINCE DAY ONE. @jundsthoughts @wixenforever
Another comic inspired by the awesome NottPott fic, The Burning of The Library by wixen here. In which Blaise is a suave motherfucker who wants Theo to get a hint, and ends up realising that the whole thing is deeper than both Draco and he thought. Theo remains oblivious for the most part, hidden under layers of intensity he doesnt have a name to yet.
Blaise, draco, who are used to this level of caring for one another from their parents. Also, common sense and Theo being an open hearted mf: 😳😳😳
Harry, somewhere: Ive never been more confused in my entire life.

For your consideration: Instead of Kronos/Luke simply exclaiming "OW!" when Rachel hits him with her blue hairbrush in TBOTL, he lets out a John Mulaney-esque "JEsus chRIst--!"

Something something PJO and themes of responsibility. Specifically with Bianca and Percy.
Idk I just think it’s funny how, in TTC, you have Bianca, who has been responsible for Nico for FOREVER. Has had to raise him like the mother they never got to keep. Has had the weight of having to raise him for as long as she can remember. She’s taking care of a child when she’s only a child herself. Discovers she’s a demigod, and is FINALLY given an out. And out to leave her responsibilities, even tho she’d have to abandon her only family.
And then we watch Percy go through the EXACT same dilemma in the next book! Staying with Calypso WAS his out! He’s been living with the weight of the prophecy since he was 12, and while he doesn’t exactly know the details, he knows something horrible is going to happen once he reaches 16. Idk how y’all feel, but that’s a lot to have been dealing with since the age of 12. But, he’s finally getting a way to escape his horrible fate! The only catch is essentially abandoning his friends and family.
And you know what dragged them in? The lack of responsibility! The idea of having that heavy weight being lifted! In ttc, it’s not immortality that finally pulls Bianca in, it’s the prospect of being surrounded by people who wouldn’t need to depend on her so heavily. THAT is the reason Bianca joined the Hunt. Percy calls Calypso his biggest what is because what if he STAYED. What if he stayed and was no longer the prophecy child? What if he got to live his life free of responsibilities and worries on her island? What if it didn’t have to be him. THAT is his biggest what if.
They both crave some sort of normalcy SOO bad. And at this point, the closest thing to that is being an immortal in a hunt/ on an island.
In the end, they both made separate choices. Bianca joined the hunt. Percy left the island.
These two get a LOT of backlash for these particular plot points. Bianca was practically crucified for abandoning Nico, and Percy is so hated for calling Calypso his biggest what if people disregard his BOTL characterization entirely. But, imagine you’ve had SOOO much pressure on you for so long. You wouldn’t at least be a bit tempted when an exist is being served on a silver platter?

The Only Exception by Paramore.....
Why does it just feel like Theo to Blaise and Draco once we get more Story Time with Theo™ or Theo at Harry just in general?
Cause, especially after you shared Home, it just feels like Theo expected to be alone (or mostly so) his whole life and just... Ya.... Anyway I'm gonna go back to my shuffle, I'll probably have more later haha ♥️
I humbly request for more songs you write to, as I just finished reading Theo's POV of chapter 13 and my heart is broken, and I wish for more hahaha. Didn't know that reading it could be even more emotional but here we are
Okay I will hurt you more if you want 🙈
This is the song I imagine plays in Theo's head pre-Tower destruction. His sad boy anthem, if you will. His struggle with the weight of his responsibility to his House and the Library will be a huge part of the story later on, but I think this does a good job of summing up his mindset of like "I'm doing this on my own, making it where I need to go without your help." I listen to this on repeat a lot.
High and Dry is what I played constantly when I wrote Chapter 14, when Harry eventually finds out about the Tower. Harry's musical self hasn't solidified for me yet like Theo's has, ironic considering I always have him listening to music when I can!! I'm excited to do more research into this as Harry develops haha.
And finally...and a happy one...this is the FIRST song I added to my "Library" playlist because I thought it fit Harry and Theo's eventual vibe soooooo well.

Romantic in nature or not, I always just looked at that scene in MoA with the notion: Annabeth is convinced that Nico, a gay man, has a crush on her in this exact scene (or you know, a different scene in MoA, I don't remember), and since we know that Annabeth isn't the best on the emotional front, she read Luke's intentions incorrectly, and Percy did, as well, due to his jealousy of the guy.
(Now, I know that neither of these are the case, especially since I doubt Nico was thought to be gay until HoH, and this is around the time that Annabeth was starting to be characterized as Never Wrong About Anything Ever, but it's always been my go-to regarding the whole Luke-Annabeth debacle. What I mean to say is that I like your interpretation of the scenes, too)
Oh i actually believe Nico was fully intended to be gay starting around MOA at least (though I do believe Rick claiming he had figured that out about Nico earlier than that), because Rick was absolutely acknowledging queer topics in his writing at that time. Jason's arc particularly in the latter half of HoO is extremely bi-coded and there's just straight up a canonical polyamorous relationship in Serpent's Shadow, which came out several months before HoH.
Which does make Annabeth's line about that in MOA funnier, especially considering by that point Nico has held maybe one full conversation with her in the entire franchise thus far, maybe two or three if you wanna push it. I cannot emphasize enough how little they had spoken to each other - and tbh, continued to not speak to each other. Just in general. Like the most notable interactions the two of them have prior to the high-five scene in BoO are literally both in BoTL and it's one line and then one off-screen scene of Nico breaking up a fight between Rachel and Annabeth (where they were fighting over Percy) entirely for the purposes of going to save Percy. They barely interact in HoO. Nico and Annabeth have a chronic case of their plot lines being in different locations because only one of them is allowed to be active at a time due to their narrative roles. Annabeth is kidnapped for most of the TTC Nico scenes and Nico is at camp when they get to Annabeth, and then in TLO Nico's busy with all the Underworld stuff and flirting with Percy so he never interacts with Annabeth. Then Nico is off at Camp Jupiter when Annabeth's at CHB and then busy being kidnapped for the first stretch of the Argo II mission and only shows up when Annabeth is busy on her Arachne quest. And then Annabeth FALLS INTO TARTARUS when Nico gets there (and proceeds to pine at Percy) and then IMMEDIATELY after Annabeth gets out of Tartarus, Nico skips away with Reyna and Coach to drag the Athena Parthenos to camp. And then FINALLY they interact and it's not even Nico speaking directly to Annabeth really, just high-fiving her after insulting Percy to his face. He literally only says one word directly to her.
Like. I cannot overemphasize the absolute comical degree to which these two avoid interacting. They're like magnets repelling each other. And yet Annabeth is like "I think he has a crush on me - he spoke to me once, allegedly." Like ah yes, sure, HoO. Next you're gonna tell me you retconned them into having a FOURTH conversation! Don't get too wild!

I know that Rick has already stated that he doesn't want to do anything for the series that would be a direct callback to the movies so it's basically pointless to think about this but how much chaos do you think there would be if the series actually reached the point where Paul gets introduced and then he does and it's Logan Lerman. Especially in light of the fact some people thought he would've been cast as Poseidon

so today in latin class we were reading our textbook, specifically a section that was similar to a passage in the Aeneid where the ghost of Aeneas’s first wife, Creusa, basically tells him to move on from her and shit. which is interesting on its own but my brain immediately jumped to battle of the labyrinth.
something about Nico summoning Bianca. in our textbook it kinda combines the idea of Odysseus summoning ghosts from the odyssey and the speech Creusa gave and. that feels a lot like what happened in that scene with Nico. Bianca telling him that he needs to forgive Percy. that he needs to move on without her.
“quid tantum insano iuvat indulgere dolori, o dulchis coniunx?” ; “What does it help to give in to such great insanity, o sweet partner?” (Aeneid Book 2 Lines 776-777)
“lacrimas dilectae pelle Creusae.” ; “Push away your tears for your beloved Creusa.” (Aeneid Book 2 Line 784)
“‘Why didn’t you answer me sooner?’ he cried. ‘I’ve been trying for months!’
‘I was hoping you’d give up.’
‘Give up?’ He sounded heartbroken. ‘How can you say that? I’m trying to save you!’
‘You can’t, Nico. Don’t do this. Percy is right.’” (Percy Jackson and the Olympians: Battle of the Labyrinth pages 166-167)
…all im saying is rick is a literary genius and i have horrible brain rot

Annabeth had a lot going on in botl and like it's so intense. Like the last line of her prophecy, so bad she won't tell anyone, is that she's going to "lose a love to worse than death." We know she's loved Luke like as long as she's known him, and I think we can reasonably assume that she loves Percy by this point since, you know, she kisses him.
And I think her first thought when Percy blows up Mt St Helens is probably that he's dead (this is entirely logical, given he was in the middle of a giant explosion and as a child of the Big 3 it's supposed to be very very improbable he even makes it to 16 at all), but I think for a moment she doesn't. Because she loves him and since he's on the quest it makes sense for the last line to be about him but if it's worse than death then maybe he doesn't die? But after two weeks (and finally getting back to camp, which probably took a while bc we know they've been having trouble navigating the maze) it seems pretty sure he is dead and maybe the worse than death is that it's her fault, he sacrificed himself for her, it's not just that he's dead.
And then he shows up at his own funeral and now that she knows he's been alive maybe what she was going to lose him to was Calypso, and knowing he's out there and happy and she'll never ever see him again. But if he chose to come back, that doesn't work really. You don't find Ogygia twice.
And then immediately he says they need to find Rachel. This mortal girl that apparently can do what Annabeth can't and navigate the maze, or so Percy thinks. And seeing them together, maybe what Annabeth's going to lose Percy to is her. Some mortal girl. It's worse than death because she'll be so close but so far, pining after her best friend for forever (remember she's like 15 it's a dramatic age). He'll love her but never in that way.
And then to suddenly lose Luke to Kronos, more permanently than before? When she's been preparing to lose Percy for months? And now, the prophecy is coming--if Percy makes it to 16, against all odds, at which point she'll lose him anyway. And he doesn't even know it yet.
