Context: I really adore the whole using an embroidery hoop with fabric inside to hold jewelry, esp earrings. I have a 12" one that's for my dangling earrings (of which there is. Plenty), and I'm turning an oval 5" (I think?? It's either that or 7" but measured from top to bottom, not side to side) into another one for my studs. I use a spinny necklace holder for my closed hoops (also a lot), which leaves the open hoops, or the uh. I don't know the technical term, but I'll call them stud hoops? The ones that look like a C rather than an O.
Problems with this:
— don't have a thin enough embroidery hoop that would allow me to pin them in place and take them off easily
— don't have a rectangular embroidery hoop, an embroidery rectangle if you will, to use either
— don't want to get one of those jewelry hangers that has earring options bc they never have enough
My solution, you ask?
— create my own rectangular earring holder that I can hang on a wall (a la the original inspiration)
—I've got more Aida cloth (which is what I've been using for this, though part of me wants to use this old navy blue crushed velvet I got forever ago. The issue with this is that the weight over time of the earrings will drag holes into it, I fear. Whereas the Aida cloth in my 12" has been put to the test for like. A year now, so I know I can trust it.)
— cut out a rectangular strip of the cloth, maybe between 8" and 10"
— cut out small squares in each corner to give it a docked look (I don't know the technical term here, but it's like if you took a rolling pin to a +), about ½" in to ensure space for the earring posts
— hem the long sides so there's no frayage
— fold in the sides so that the 90° angles meet to create a shallow box shape and then sew them together to keep it structured
— near the very tip of the corners of the top wall, attach jump rings
— attach spare hooks from unmade earrings to the jump rings
— et voilà! We have an earring holder!
My major concerns with this are the top and bottom sides folding from the weight, thus creating a wrinkly V shape. There's cardboard around bc we're in the process of moving that I could use to support the walls, perhaps. Or I could grab some thin sticks from Joann's when I go later to get another bracelet holder.

A profusion of flower pictures, grouped to stunning effect against a fabric wall, is given added life by the real arrangements spilling from the sconces and massed on the chest below.

Portrait of Jean de Thevenot
Artist: Philippe de Champaigne (Flemish, 1602 - 1674)
Date: 1660-1663
Medium: Oil on canvas
Collection: The Huntington Library, Art Museum, and Botanical Gardens, San Marino, CA, United States
Description
Jean de Thévenot was a linguist, natural scientist, botanist, and traveler who wrote extensively about his journeys to the eastern Mediterranean and Turkey. He is also the man we can thank for introducing coffee to Parisian society in 1657 and for instructing the French in its use. We do not know why Philippe de Champaigne, one of the greatest French painters of the 17th century, painted his portrait but it is obvious he took pleasure in rendering the lavish fabrics, Turkish-inspired domed architecture, and almost translucent complexion of this striking and exotic figure.

The bedrooms in the house have all been treated very differently. Here, the white panels of the walls and wardrobe have been outlined in a blue wash, while the French doors, which were added by the McDonnells when all the windows were enlarged in 1974, allow sunlight to stream in across the floorboards.
