Physical habits are detectable and hence to some extent can be rectified but imagine someone having subtle mental habits that are too hidden to even be noticed - how could they even be spotted, let alone be treated. I'm talking here strictly in the clinical sense with zero prejudices because I definitely see "flawed thinking" as a mental illness, something that has been silently killing the human civilization more than any other known or unknown disease. You see, people don't realize what havoc our thoughts could do to our lives. Our minds are just like an open land. If we cultivate it well, then we can grow their crops of our choice but if we leave it at that, then it becomes a haven for weeds that brings no good. If a person's life is to be transformed, then the target must be at their core beliefs and thoughts. How their minds travel determines what their bodies will be doing. And I suppose that to some extent, words play a crucial role. They act like injections, getting straight into the mental space and its results being immediately visible...

All Things to All People - Curse
A trend that seems to becoming ever more common is the vendor decision to try to make their product cover as many possible use cases as possible. Just add that next feature that further expands what the product can do. There is this implicit vision of the one stop shop for something that can do everything. I want to look at this from the Mac management side.
A couple examples to highlight this: Jamf, Kandji and JumpCloud. Each of these products over the years has become increasingly broad. Jamf and Kandji used to be general Device Management tools. JumpCloud used to be an identity management solution–specifically a cloud-based directory service.
Now consider these products:
Jamf*
Device Management - Jamf Pro and Jamf NOW
Identity Management - Jamf Connect
Endpoint Compliance/Security - Jamf Protect
C-level security - Jamf Executive Threat Protection
School internet filtering - Jamf Safe Internet
Device Management for Schools - Jamf School
Kandji*
Device Management - Kandji
Added into Kandji: Compliance, Prism, Kai, Passport
Endpoint Security - Endpoint Detection & Response
JumpCloud*
Cloud Directory - JumpCloud
Added Features: Mobile Device Management, Onboarding Management, Zero Trust, Patch Management, Compliance
*not exhaustive lists just for demonstration
You can find other products that have followed the same path. I just want to focus on these because they are powerful and easy examples to point to.
The Curse
It is easy to understand why a for profit company and even more so a publicly traded company would do this. However, I will submit that this is actually a curse and a blight on their products. Yes, adding the features makes them more powerful, and yes having more of those features under the single umbrella makes them more useful in some cases–but there is a reason the age old saying
"jack of all trades master of none"
rings so true.
In the headlong pursuit of more features and covering more territory these products have become worse overall. I will cite an example: why is Munki so highly regarded as a package deployment tool? It is because that is all it does. It tries to be nothing else, and because of this it is exceptional at what it does.
Think about the above products what are they exceptional at? I would suggest that JumpCloud used to be exceptional as a cloud-based directory service, but has now become a bit muddled in its purpose and scope. You can certainly argue that JumpCloud is a bit less all over the map than Jamf, and if it wasn't for the MDM and patch management the features would be bit more targeted around identity management.
Jamf and Kandji have always been broad and not especially good MDMs (consider that for example Jamf doesn't give you access to the full range of MDM commands) or package managers, but as they have grown in feature sets the rest of the product to a certain extent languishes.
In the case of Jamf I would argue that they have routinely sacrificed quality for the sake of quantity in the feature department. Consider the features they add many are bought up companies at various states of integration. Jamf Connect used to be Nomad. Jamf picked up Wandera which has become the basis for a variety of things primarily Jamf Trust. Jamf Protect hails from Digita Security. The history of Jamf is littered with acquisitions many of which are only loosely integrated and sometimes take years, or have yet, to be fully integrated.
This approach is a good way to make money, but a bad way to build a product. By trying to be all things to all people these products guarantee that they will never be superlative examples of any of their feature sets and run the risk of better products replacing them–especially as open standards and integrations are developed.
The reality is that the more functions you add to your product and the more complex you make it the more the overall product tends to become confused. You end up okay implementations of various features and the timeline for improvements is dragged out due to competing priorities.
I leave you with this thought: beware of the vendor peddling the solves all solution, because it rarely does and to the extent that it does it is always at the expense of quality in some area–just a fact of life.

what if u were a sacrificial lamb who died and died again and again until it was nothing more than a joke to you and everyone around you but someone loved you so so so much that whenever they could (which isn’t often, but it is every single time they could) they sat with you and sat with the reality of the ugliness and the grief and the pain even though you were made to die and made for nothing but dying

There's a version of the "don't go grocery shopping while hungry" rule specifically for writers where you should never under any circumstances be allowed to touch your draft within 3 hours of reading a really good story. Because sometimes when you read something great your head goes "fuck this is so much better than my stuff I should make that more like THIS instead!" Look at me. That's the devil talking and you should close the document NOW.

“Bruce is emotionally incompetent and can’t step outside his own morality” yeah it’s a character flaw.
“Dick is extremely stubborn and thinks he’s right all the time” yeah it’s a character flaw.
“Jason has hypocritical tendencies” yeah it’s a character flaw.
“ Tim is entitled and doesn’t think about people when seeking results, and often acts uncaring” yeah it’s a character flaw.
“Damian is rude and bratty” yeah, it’s a character flaw.
Also, some people may not even regard everything listed above as flaws.
Having negative traits allows incredible flexibility within your characters, what makes them intriguing, what makes them easy to relate to. If you want to write people, then write people. But they can’t be good and clean all the time.

One thing for those who have watched The Boy and The Heron or will watch it. The Japanese title for it is How Do You Live? And Miyazaki stated he was leaving it for his grandson, saying, "Grandpa is moving onto the next world soon but he is leaving behind this film".
The deaths of contemporaries and friends such as Satoshi Kon and Isao Takahata and also the expected successor of Yoshifumi Kondo were things that have always weighed heavily on the back of Miyazaki's mind.
He recognizes the industry and the occupation for how soul crushing it was, grinding up either the spirit or the physical body of those who work in it. He loves and hates the industry he stands on the peak of and fully recognizes how it will probably be the death of him. And he knows it'll leave him unable to say a lot of things to his Grandson.
So How Do You Live? is a lesson. For his grandson. For himself. For his two sons. And probably for anyone else willing to pay attention.
Hayao Miyazaki is a flawed man that makes things so important to so many people. And I think more than any other film of his, in this you get to pull back the curtain a bit and see him at work. And what should be this giant unblemished titan can be seen for what he is, a sad old man who had higher hopes for himself and has even higher hopes for the people he makes his work for.
It's a beautiful thing to see another's humanity in their work. To look past the artifice and glam of commercialized art and find humans behind it. And humans willing to show their humanity and mortality is even rarer. And something to be celebrated. So when you watch it. Or if you've watched it already. Understand that this film is Miyazaki kneeling down, weary after years of weaving dreams and making mistakes, reaching out and saying to you that he hopes you can do better. It's an old man who's made all the mistakes of the world passing it on to you, hoping you do better, and making sure you know it's okay if you don't.
How do you Live? By making mistakes. By messing up. But still moving forward. And still reaching out.

i never understood ppl claiming percy has never suffered the consequences of his loyalty. you're talking about percy "i know the prophecy said my friend would betray me but these are my friends they wouldn't betray me" jackson, who walked into a remote part of the forest with luke and almost died in book one. you're talking about percy "kronos told me point-blank there was a traitor but i can't imagine any of these ppl betraying me" jackson, who decided to stop looking for the traitor and moved on. you're talking about percy "nico is acting suspicious and very clearly hiding something from me but he's my friend and i trust him" jackson, who walked into nico's very obvious set up and almost got himself held hostage during the titan war. percy is so loyal that he cannot fathom betrayal until it's happening, and it has nearly killed him multiple times.

unlike many people, i think that scene is so beautiful and meaningful. i wanna talk about this scene from vi’s perspective, and more specifically about touch and her past with physical violence.
all she's ever known is pain, violence and physical abuse. it's how she copes and what she'd had to live with her whole life: since she was a child, to protect powder and the others, being in prison for 7 years and getting beat up, using her fists in every fight, getting punched by cait, then jinx (literally in the scene before this one) becoming a pit fighter and using all she knows to cope with any emotion she has
Tumblr media
Vi needed, deserved that closeness, that intimacy, a touch that isnt a violent one, a form of trust and warmth that she has never gotten, especially after everything physically abusive that she went through until now, she's finally allowed and able to feel loved and cared for.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
and cait didn't apologize for hurting vi the way that she did, but i believe that scene was a step towards forgiveness and redemption. it's about second chances and saving their relationship from the curse it was in, the oil and water curse.

Everytime I see a take saying that they have no sympathy for Ragatha because shes toxic and was horrible to Jax this episode I want to bash my head into a wall /silly
I think a lot of people are misunderstanding what she meant by "Not anymore...". She didn't mean "Oh lmao his friend died" she meant "After he became an asshole everyone stopped wanting to be friends with him" yet Jax misunderstood it as the former. You can tell thats not what she meant because she says as much when she notices him death glaring her. And no, its not an excuse because she "thought he wouldn't hear her". She knew he could probably hear her and expected a different reaction because she meant something different.
I'm so tired of people calling her horrible for making a couple mistakes towards someone whos been blatantly an asshole. I love Jax. I love him a lot, but he doesn't deserve all the sympathy here. Ragatha isn't some secretly evil and toxic person. Shes a person who's fawning as a response to trauma and is making mistakes.

For the haunted au I had an devilish little thought. Has Optimus ever had a really bad time and when the primes try to give him advice he just shouts "you guy's FAILED!" Like for all their wisdom they couldn't beat the quintisons or see Sentinels betrayal coming?
He feels bad but in his spark he wishes HE didn't have to do what THEY couldn't.

absolutely evil thought that was inflicted upon me months ago and that i finally get to inflict upon the rest of y'all OTL
i can see it happening with the caveat that he immediately regrets saying it. but it's too late. it's the kind of thing you say in the heat of the moment and then feel the ground drop under your feet because you never meant to say it out loud. but now it's out there and you can never unsay it.
it's just. a bad situation all around :(
