The Brutalist’s most intriguing and controversial technical feature points forward rather than back: in January, the film’s editor Dávid Jancsó revealed that he and Corbet used tools from AI speech software company Respeecher to make the Hungarian-language dialogue spoken by Adrien Brody (who plays the protagonist, Hungarian émigré architect László Tóth) and Felicity Jones (who plays Tóth’s wife Erzsébet) sound more Hungarian. In response to the ensuing backlash, Corbet clarified that the actors worked “for months” with a dialect coach to perfect their accents; AI was used “in Hungarian language dialogue editing only, specifically to refine certain vowels and letters for accuracy.” In this way, Corbet seemed to suggest, the production’s two central performances were protected against the howls of outrage that would have erupted from the world’s 14 million native Hungarian speakers had The Brutalist made it to screens with Brody and Jones playing linguistically unconvincing Magyars. Far from offending the idea of originality and authorship in performance, AI in fact saved Brody and Jones from committing crimes against the Uralic language family; I shudder even to imagine how comically inept their performances might have been without this technological assist, a catastrophe of fumbled agglutinations, misplaced geminates, and amateur-hour syllable stresses that would have no doubt robbed The Brutalist of much of its awards season élan. This all seems a little silly, not to say hypocritical. Defenders of this slimy deception claim the use of AI in film is no different than CGI or automated dialogue replacement, tools commonly deployed in the editing suite for picture and audio enhancement. But CGI and ADR don’t tamper with the substance of a performance, which is what’s at issue here. Few of us will have any appreciation for the corrected accents in The Brutalist: as is the case, I imagine, for most of the people who’ve seen the film, I don’t speak Hungarian. But I do speak bullshit, and that’s what this feels like. This is not to argue that synthetic co-pilots and assistants of the type that have proliferated in recent years hold no utility at all. Beyond the creative sector, AI’s potential and applications are limitless, and the technology seems poised to unleash a bold new era of growth and optimization. AI will enable smoother reductions in headcount by giving managers more granular data on the output and sentiment of unproductive workers; it will allow loan sharks and crypto scammers to get better at customer service; it will offer health insurance companies the flexibility to more meaningfully tie premiums to diet, lifestyle, and sociability, creating billions in savings; it will help surveillance and private security solution providers improve their expertise in facial recognition and gait analysis; it will power a revolution in effective “pre-targeting” for the Big Pharma, buy-now-pay-later, and drone industries. Within just a few years advances like these will unlock massive productivity gains that we’ll all be able to enjoy in hell, since the energy-hungry data centers on which generative AI relies will have fried the planet and humanity will be extinct.

Dave Miller and Frontal Lobe Injury: an analysis?
There is so much to say regarding Dave’s mental state, many angles to approach from. As a psych major (with very little actual knowledge about the brain, mind you, but so tumblr users ever let lack of knowledge stop them) I want to talk about frontal lobe damage. One of my professors brought up the symptoms of said damage causing aggression and emotional issues, and I latched onto to that for later, to write this very essay. I used mostly Wikipedia as my sources for this, but this is tumblr, so that is allowed. Anyways, let us begin with a quote from Henry to set the stage:
“Once a month, I anesthetize William, and remove one of his vital organs, or typically, a portion of his brain. Usually, tissue from the frontal lobe due to it being a generously accessible mass of neurological material.”
The most notable function of the frontal lobe is what is known as “executive functioning”. This label encompasses processes such as planning for the future, setting goals, time management, problem solving, impulse and emotional control, flexibility (adapting to change), and stress tolerance. This portion of the brain is associated with personality and speech production. There is said to be a possible link between the frontal lobe and someone’s will to live, apparently.
“Surprisingly, William doesn't seem to be suffering from dementiated memory loss, but rather, a shift in personality. His conscience is unburdening itself, and he has begun to ask substantially fewer questions about the ethics of our work.”
Memory loss is often thought to be a symptom of frontal lobe damage, however what is seen is actually a deficit in ‘working memory’. Working memory involves the ability to focus attention on a task, as well as the action of retrieving information from stored memory.
What is a symptom of frontal lobe damage is disinhibition, also known as impulsivity. Impulsivity is defined as ‘making choices, or taking action without thinking about the results’. This is concurrent with what Henry observes, Dave is losing his inhibitions, giving less thought to the implications of murder. Manipulating a vulnerable child is no great feat, but it probably became even easier to suggest things to Dave in his disinhibited state.
Another behaviour that increases with frontal lobe injury is risk-taking-‘To jump at the opportunity of a reward, even if the likelihood of receiving the reward is small’; things like gambling addiction demonstrate increased risk taking. This too fits with Dave’s behaviour, he would do just about anything, kill and die over and over for Henry, for just a glimpse of the twisted attention he sees as love…
Already likely traumatized and desperate for connection as an orphan fending for himself, it figures that Dave should be predisposed to attachment issues. He had no parental example to build his ideas of healthy attachment from. Familial bonds are a vital part of child development. If I may, I want to pull from theories like Erik Erikson’s- which posits that there are a number of stages humans must go through to become stable adults. The most basic stage asks the question of ‘trust vs mistrust’, where, ideally, an infant is treated with care and so learns to trust in others. Dave however, never had that care. He was never allowed the luxury of trusting someone else. Living in a constant state of self-defense does not tend to contribute to healthy development. Many victims of childhood trauma find themselves stuck, so to speak, in a childish state of mind, or regressing to childlike behaviours when distressed. This can be due to these individuals lacking healthy coping mechanisms , which should be formed during healthy, secure development.
Humans are observant creatures, and Dave learned his ideas of ‘love’ from the one person who showed him any sort of attention in his childhood. Take, for example, this interaction between Jack and Dave.
“I thought you loved me, Old Sport”
“You’re a fucking eggplant”
“I thought I was your fucking eggplant”
We can look at this through our past observation of Dave building his ideas of affection off of Henry’s treatment of him. Dave’s non-reaction to being insulted suggests that Old Sport may speak to him like this regularly. Pairing this with Dave’s belief that Old Sport loves him..It is possible that Dave is repeating patterns from his childhood, attaching himself to people who show him the same kind of “love” that Henry did.
Another thing we know about Dave is that he is a pretty vulgar person. Whether or not this was true of him before his surgeries, is unknown, but here is a quote about the most famous survivor of frontal lobe damage, Phineas Gage:
“after the man recovered, and while recovering, he was gross, profane, coarse, and vulgar, to such a degree that his society was intolerable to decent people.” Allegedly, he was not like this before his accident. (Full transparency, Gage’s case is shrouded in misinformation, and is often dramatized, but still, interesting if true). Frontal lobe damage has been said to impact the personality of the victim, so perhaps Dave could have been made a bit more intense by his surgeries.
“William cannot follow simple instructions, cannot control his emotions, and is even too afraid to leave his vessel for even a second, even when incentivized with controlled shocks.”
Emotional dysfunction is another symptom of frontal lobe damage. In my image of it, it’s somewhat like the frontal lobe fighting with the primal instincts. When the frontal lobe gets damaged, the more animalistic traits have more pull. Aggression is also observed in those with frontal lobe injury because of this.
Some examples of Dave’s emotional issues include: his obsession with Old Sport. He has extreme reactions to Jack’s decision to join him or not (“I sure am wild about old sport” vs. “he’s going to pay for this”). He even goes as far as showing up with intention to shoot up the restaurant in one route if Old Sport turns him down, saying “this is the last time you break my heart”.
[Keep in mind though that Henry has his own slew of problems. He is far from an unbiased account, and may be misrepresenting Dave’s behavior. ‘Refusing to leave the vessel’ as he put it, is not an indicator of impaired brain function, in fact quite the opposite. Why the hell would anyone in their right mind want to do that]
If you made it this far, thanks for reading! In summary, I think Dave would definitely be a contender for a frontal lobe injury diagnosis, if we didn’t already know Henry stole it from him. It may even explain some of his erratic behaviours!
(If you see a typo,, please let me know. It’s like. 1am as I type this out to post hehe)

An independent, semi-private, and plot-driven adaptation of PRINCE PHILLIP from DISNEY’S SLEEPING BEAUTY . Inspired by the 1959 film and shaped by older, darker FAIRY-MYTH, ARTHURIAN LEGENDS, AND MEDIEVAL HISTORY. Est. 2013. Written by Aqssa (she / her, South Asian, 31, EST).

𝙍𝙐𝙇𝙀𝙎 beneath the cut. 𝙋𝙄𝙉𝙏𝙀𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙏. 𝙎𝙋𝙊𝙏𝙄𝙁𝙔.
𝙊𝙏𝙃𝙀𝙍 𝘽𝙇𝙊𝙂𝙎: @laperlina
001. Mun Intro Hi, I’m Aqssa, the mun behind Phillip! I love deep analysis, tigers, DnD, video games, drawing, and long walks on the bustling streets of my city. Let's be friends! ~ I’m most active on Instagram (DM for @), and I’m on Discord @aqssu. My personal blog is prizmbunny, though activity there is super low.
002. Blog Overview This is a private, selective, mutals-only, multi-verse/ship RP blog for Prince Phillip (Disney’s 1959 Sleeping Beauty) that’s been around since 2013. My main verse is an original, canon-divergent storyline set in a medieval-modern Germanic empire called Carolingia, with old court politics, curses, creature lore, and a tangled royal history. You can find more about it on my home theme (the full story is TBW!).
I write across many verses and timeline, from traditional fairytale settings to modern AUs. I love exploring a range of tones: tender, dramatic, courtly, tragic, funny, romantic, eerie, and everything in between. My goal is to stay creatively flexible; I care far more about interesting character dynamics and story potential than perfect lore-matching.
Multi-ship / multi-verse means that each interaction stands on its own unless we talk otherwise. I’m very into long-term plotting and exploration... but also just down to throw our muses together and see what happens. Sooooo if you’re unsure whether we’d mesh or you’re worried your character doesn’t “fit” my setting, please don’t stress. I’m flexible. I’m REALLY friendly! Just reach out.
003. Writing Style For my writing, for multiple reasons, I prefer iconless, minimal formatting. Pleeeeeease respect that. Totally judgment-free zone if you use them, but it’s just really not my thing. All graphics made by me!
I have a lot of thoughts about how aesthetics are often viewed in the Tumblr RPC space. For me, just know this: I don’t judge a blog by its graphics. I follow based on your writing and whether I feel like we’d vibe well creatively, not on how aesthetically polished or stylized your theme / pinned post / etc. are.
004. Roleplay Conduct RP should be fun! If a thread isn’t working, please just let me know. No hard feelings, no pressure. I’m always happy to pivot, brainstorm something new, or drop it entirely. I juggle a full-time in-office job in Tech, a dog, and newlywed life, so while I try to reply and chat regularly, some weeks are more hectic than others. But please keep in mind that I have a lot of commitments in my life, so my activity and social battery may not always be super there. I always try my best, but I really appreciate your patience with replies or communication pauses. I promise it’s never personal, and I’m always grateful when folks are kind and understanding about timing.
That said, I really do care about keeping things balanced and showing up for the people I write with. I generally follow the good faith / karma rules of roleplay: treat people with honesty, generosity, and basic consideration. I assume the best from others unless given a reason not to. I don’t chase replies or guilt people into activity, and I hope the same is extended to me. If you expect memes / asks, you should send them to others, and all good things like that. Threads can ebb and flow naturally, and that’s okay. What matters most to me is mutual excitement, creativity, and trust.
I value communication a lot. If we’re vibing ooc, brainstorming together, or just talking about our characters like they’re real people… I’ll probably write faster, more excitedly, and with way more heart. I'm not here for follower counts or post aesthetics — I’m here to write cool stuff with cool people who care about character, connection, and craft.
005. Plotting / Story / Thread Preferences I loooooove plotting and discussing character dynamics. In fact, I prefer it! Friendships, romantic ships, enemy-ships, let's talk it out!
Fluff, grit, action, platonic, messy angst... I really do love it all. I’m open to most genres and themes, as long as they serve the characters and give us something interesting to explore. More thoughts on that, actually:
I adore really world-rich, emotionally layered threads, the ones that feel like they’re part of something old and alive. I do have a ton of NPCs and side characters woven into Phillip’s world, and you’re more than welcome to write with them! I actually prefer settings where the world feels fleshed out.. ancient courts, forgotten forests, shadowy kingdoms with history and lore we can dig into together.
If you're into building those kinds of spaces (or playing in the ones I’ve already made), we’ll probably click super duper really well.
I’m here for collaborative, story-driven writing, but know that I don’t need things to be perfectly plotted from the start, but I do love when we’re both engaged and excited about where it’s going.
006. Boundaries Please don't write over my characters' actions or choices. And no godmoding. Please learn about it if you're unfamiliar in this Reddit thread. If we’re planning something intense, like a fight, a betrayal, a twist, just check in with me first so we’re on the same page.
This is a drama-free blog; I'm not here for ooc conflict, vagueposting, or weirdass high school energy. I'm way too old for that. If there's ever confusion or concern, I genuinely welcome mature, respectful conversation.
SPEAKING of old!! I was born in 1994, and I do not RP with minors in any capacity, period. No matter the story, tone, or character. If you’re under 18, I won’t interact. Do not lie about your age.
Don’t use manipulative behavior to push for attention, ships, or threads.
Don’t send anonymous hate. I will delete and block without response.
Most importantly, please note and respect that I don’t write smut. No judgment at all toward writers who enjoy that kind of content, it’s just not something I create here.
However... am I here for romantic tension? Longing glances? A moment held too long in the dark? Makeout sesh? Sure. You know what helllllll yeah. But when it comes to explicitly sexual content, I will always fade to black or imply it offscreen.
Other mature content (blood, violence, etc.) may appear on this blog, and I always tag it accordingly. Please tag your NSFW content as well in whatever way you want. If it's frequently not tagged at all, I will softblock/unfollow to keep my dash a comfortable space.
007. Shipping Phillip may flirt with your character, as he’s charming by nature, but don't assume I'm trying to ship with your character. I actually really don’t jump into ships right away, and I'm sure if you scroll through my blog you can see that I’m pretty selective about them. I really value organic build-up, mutual enthusiasm, and earned chemistry. That means I’m happy to explore tension, flirtation, complicated dynamics, etc., but only if we’re both into it and have talked about it first.
I do NOT ship with anyone under the age of 26, even if the characters are older. End of story.
At the end of the day, I’m here to write stories with weight, care, and feeling. If you're on the same page, I’d love to explore what our muses can become together, whether it's a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, tragic soulmates, you name it!
Thanks for reading this far. I love you for doing it!

Conclusion
Tumblr media
Seismic engineering design plays a crucial role in piping stress analysis within industrial facilities, especially in regions prone to earthquakes. Piping stress analysis involves evaluating the forces and stresses that piping systems experience during various operational conditions, including seismic events.
Here's how seismic engineering design is important for piping stress analysis:
Safety and Structural Integrity: Seismic engineering design ensures that the entire facility, including piping systems, is built to withstand the forces generated by earthquakes. The structural integrity of piping systems is paramount for preventing leaks, ruptures, or catastrophic failures during seismic events. Piping stress analysis assesses the impact of seismic forces on the pipes, supports, and attachments to verify that they can withstand the dynamic loads and deformations caused by earthquakes.
Compliance with Building Codes: Piping systems within industrial facilities must adhere to building codes and standards related to earthquake-resistant design. Seismic engineering design ensures that piping systems are compliant with these codes. Non-compliance can lead to costly retrofitting efforts or, in the worst-case scenario, dangerous failures during an earthquake.
Identifying Vulnerabilities: Seismic engineering design involves conducting a seismic risk assessment for the facility. This assessment helps identify vulnerabilities in the piping systems, such as weak points in support structures or connections that may be prone to failure during seismic events. Piping stress analysis considers these vulnerabilities and recommends improvements to enhance seismic resilience.
Optimal Pipe Routing and Support: Piping stress analysis incorporates considerations for seismic forces when determining the routing of pipes and the design of pipe supports. Proper pipe routing and support are essential to prevent excessive stresses, vibrations, and displacements during an earthquake. Seismic engineering design helps optimize these factors to minimize potential damage to the piping systems.
Dynamic Load Analysis: Seismic events introduce dynamic loads on piping systems, which are significantly different from static loads. Piping stress analysis uses dynamic load analysis techniques to simulate the effects of seismic forces on pipes, fittings, and supports. This analysis ensures that the piping systems can handle the dynamic loads without exceeding their stress limits.
Retrofitting and Modifications: In existing facilities, seismic engineering design may involve retrofitting or modifying piping systems to meet current seismic standards. Piping stress analysis helps identify areas that require reinforcement, redesign, or additional support. Retrofitting ensures that older facilities can withstand seismic events and meet modern safety requirements.
Mitigation Strategies: Seismic engineering design doesn't only focus on evaluating existing conditions but also includes the development of mitigation strategies. These strategies may involve the use of seismic expansion joints, dampers, or flexible connectors to absorb seismic energy and reduce stress on the piping systems.
Emergency Response Planning: In the event of a seismic event, having a well-designed piping system is crucial for quick recovery and minimizing damage. Seismic engineering design contributes to emergency response planning by ensuring that piping systems are less likely to rupture or leak during an earthquake, reducing potential hazards and environmental damage.
In summary, seismic engineering design is vital for piping stress analysis because it ensures the safety, compliance, and resilience of piping systems in the face of seismic events. It helps identify vulnerabilities, optimize designs, and implement mitigation measures, ultimately safeguarding industrial facilities and the surrounding environment during earthquakes.

Echoes of a Dead World
TRANSMISSION FOUND.
ORIGIN: Earth (Deceased)
LOCATION: Deep-space capsule (Deceased)
DATA TYPE: Recovered logs
TRANSLATION STATUS: Complete
REVIEW STATUS: UNDER ANALYSIS
ENTRY 001
This is the last record of Earth.
It began not with war or famine, but with hope. A miracle medical breakthrough, Evo-Vax, was a synthetic vaccine genetically engineered to eliminate every known disease. Autoimmune dysfunction, cancer and genetic disorders, it could erase them all at the source by rewriting human DNA on a molecular level.
Developed in secret by Novacore Institute, it was meant to be tested for another decade. But the World Health Syndicate overrode the delay. The entire globe had suffered too long. The human species would evolve, now.
The vaccine was released to every country, distributed under mandate, and injected into the arms of billions within months. Some people, however, refused the vaccine, saying it was a sketchy concept.
They called it the final answer to mortality.
For the first few weeks, everything seemed perfect. Nobody fell ill, hospitals were completely emptied, symptoms of chronic conditions evaporated. People who had suffered for decades suddenly found relief. It was hailed as the end of human suffering.
Then the symptoms started.
ENTRY 002
The first phase was subtle. No illnesses of any kind, not even mild fevers or headaches. People stopped sneezing and coughing, they even experienced the clearing of scars. No bruises formed. Cuts stopped bleeding almost instantly. Even hair and nails grew faster and thicker.
Then came the loss of pain.  At first, that was celebrated too, after all, who wouldn't want to live without pain? But then, a man crushed his hand in a car engine and laughed about the sound. He hadn't noticed it was broken until he tried to pick something up and his fingers bent backwards. A child wandered barefoot across broken glass and didn’t realize she was bleeding until someone pointed it out.
The nervous system wasn’t just resisting pain, it was shutting down sensory feedback entirely.  Nerve scans revealed something strange, all activity was rerouted. The brain was interpreting injury not as damage, but as structural variation. It stopped recognizing trauma as a threat.  Doctors called it pain rejection syndrome, but it didn’t stop there.
ENTRY 003
Then came the insomnia. People stopped sleeping for days and weeks at a time, then even entire months without rest.  They didn’t even get tired.  They were alert, energetic, almost euphoric. Some claimed they felt more alive than ever.
Others began acting erratically, laughing during moments of silence, forgetting their own names and then remembering hours later, eyes wide and unfocused.  Sleep studies showed zero REM activity. The parts of the brain that regulated rest had gone entirely silent.
In spite of this, their cognitive function remained stable. Higher, even. Their memories sharpened. Their reflexes quickened. But their pupils no longer dilated correctly. They stopped blinking. They barely breathed, and when they did breathe, the oxygen in their blood didn’t drop, even after being deprived.
Some could hold their breath for over an hour.  Pulmonary experts ran the data five times. The lungs were almost useless now. Their bodies didn’t need air the way we did.
 ENTRY 004
Their skin began to change next. It was smooth, dense. The upper dermal layer flattened into something like hardened silk, tough, flexible, and resistant to tearing.  Beneath it, the subdermal layers were altered, infused with a row of tough minerals the body had somehow grown on its own.
Their bones were no longer calcified in the traditional sense. X-rays showed an internal scaffolding that dispersed stress across the body like armor.
Their eyes were gone. They left divots in their heads where they would have been. They stopped sweating. Their body temperatures regulated without effort, no matter the environment. They walked through fire drills and cold chambers without flinching.
Eventually, they stopped talking. Not because they couldn’t, but because they no longer needed to.
ENTRY 005
They began to move in unison.  The infected, as some still called them, would stand for hours, motionless, staring into nothing. They would attack, releasing neurotoxins from their bodies to infect survivors.
Then, they began to whisper. The sounds weren’t human. A language made of tones and pulses, low resonance frequencies that rattled metal and bone. Survivors said they could feel the whispers in their skull.
The rest of us? We were terrified.
They were no longer human.
ENTRY 006
The government acted quickly. Once the full extent of the divergence became clear, military orders were issued.
Novacore researchers were taken into custody. Facilities quarantined.
But it was already too late.  The infected didn’t resist.  They simply walked out of laboratories, through bulletproof glass, across continents.
They didn’t even hide.
They didn’t need to.
I gathered at least 30 survivors and took them all into a space station, launching off into the sky.
ENTRY 007
Then came the bombing. It started with isolated detonations, two major cities, then four, then twelve. Nuclear warheads detonated in urban centers where conversion was complete.
They weren’t surgical.
They were annihilations.
We watched as the fallout turned the clouds black. The skies choked in ash. The oceans turned sluggish, thick with decay.
It wasn’t about stopping the infected.
It was about stopping evolution itself.
ENTRY 008
We thought the infected would survive the radiation. They had adapted to everything else that we threw at them.
But in the end, we heard they didn’t make it.  Their transformation was incomplete. The next step of evolution was still unfinished when the bombs came.
Their bodies calcified into molten statues. Their silvery eyes burned black.
They fell... not screaming, but silent.
The final act of humanity was to destroy its future before it could walk away.
ENTRY 009
Now, Earth is no more.  A scar, a husk. A rotting silhouette in space.
No trees, no breath, no memory.  The soil glows with poison. Storms howl across abandoned continents.  Not even bacteria remains.  The infected are ash. The uninfected are gone.
All that’s left is silence.
ENTRY 010
We are the last voices.  And this is our only act of resistance, launching our station into the void. No salvation.
We reached too far. We tried to become something better.  But we were afraid of what we were becoming.  So we burned it all.
And Earth burned with us.
TRANSMISSION END
~~~
The station drifts into darkness, alone. Below it, a planet spins silently, trailing radiation like dust. Nothing stirs on its surface.
No life.
No future.
Only the memory of a species that rewrote its own biology... and flinched.
Forever silenced.
C-PTSD & BPD Thirteenth Doctor pt. 2
(Doctor Character Study part 3E.2) E.1, E.3
An analysis of The Doctor as having Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (C-PTSD) along with Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD). If you read my ADHD & Autistic doctor posts you will notice some symptoms overlap mostly with impulsivity. I chose to put C-PTSD and BPD as one post because symptom overlap is strong, and the disorders are highly comorbid
[Thirteenth Doctor will be in 3 parts due to length. Find the whole thing on AO3]
13th Doctor 2: Morals & her Trauma Informed Identity
Thirteen also shows a need to be seen as moral and a good person in situations including in TV: Resolution when facing the Dalek. She wants to be seen as a good person to her friends, letting them see her anxiety while also having previously hidden the fact she enjoyed scaring the Dalek.
“Dalek: Hide behind your shield, Doctor, you and your human friends. You have failed. Doctor: Say hello to a Dalek. Dalek: Signal activation in nine rels. The fleet shall be summoned. Doctor: No, it won't. No matter how many times you try, no matter how long you wait, I'll always be in your way, backed up by the best of humanity. Now, final, final, final warning, cos I'm nice. I really do try my best. Stop the signal, get off this planet. Dalek: You are not my commander. Doctor: I tried. You heard me, right? I tried! I gave it a chance. Yasmin: Yeah. Ryan: Yep. Graham: You did.”
She wants to be viewed as good by those she loves and upholds part of her worldview where she matters as a hero. But also can not truly hold to the idealised version of ‘The Doctor’ We see this in TV: The Woman Who Fell To Earth, we see it in how she won’t shoot Tzim-Sha, becoming mad when Tzim-Sha is kicked off the edge, while she put DNA bombs. The idea of The Doctor is still removed from the personal status. A similar contradiction shows up in TV: The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos
“Doctor: Equipment. Doctor: I borrowed all this from your ship, Paltraki. These throat mics work like commdots. Side of the neck. Stay in contact. Take one each. Grenades. Codebreakers for doors. Also, a bomb. Ryan: What happened to never do weapons? Doctor: It's a flexible creed. Doors, locks, walls, buildings, fair game. If it can be rebuilt, I'll allow it. Ryan: No, no. You stopped me shooting at Sniperbots before. Doctor: You were new. I have to lay down the rules if someone's new. Also, don't quote that back to me. My rules change all the time.”
The Doctor is willing to use weapons while having been deeply against them, which is remarked on by Ryan because she told him off for using weapons in TV: The Ghost Monument. This hypocritical state isn’t incongruous with The Doctor’s history, not using guns is something she has built her sense of self around the idea of a pacifist hero with words is something she needs to grasp onto. Her willingness to wipe out her enemies wholesale she argues in TV: War of the Sontarans that they shouldn’t have killed the retreating Sontarans to then kill mass numbers of them along with Daleks and Cybermen in TV: The Vanquishers. In Prose: Combat Magicks she uses her experience with understanding war and alienation to choose to kill aliens who are exploiting Earth with minimal time spent trying to negotiate. Her complicated moral stances and actions reflect a lot of who they want to be but also who they are when it comes down to choosing to save the most people possible.
Connections with her past in war had less of an impact on her to start with due to being more removed from war trauma. Both the Time War and Trenzalore are at a distance from her. Though we do know she does carry it with her in Prose: The Day of The Doctor [novelisation]. She does return to give Cass a proper burial. Her dislike of war showed through in the above discussion of speaking against weapons while still knowing how to use them also points to her current connection to violence,
War and her connection to it still have a strong effect on her identity. (TV: The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos, TV: resolution, TV: Fugitive of The Judoon, TV: Ascension of The Cybermen, TV: War of the Sontarans, Prose: Combat Magicks, Prose: The Good Doctor, Comic: Hidden Human History, Comic: New Beginnings, Comic: Old friends & Comic: Alternating Current )
In TV: Demons of the Punjab we see an interesting connection related to the wars being discussed during the episode. Prem’s history with war and loss feels very impactful. The Doctor wants to go with him when he is going to be killed, offering kindness and something we know has helped them with previous losses. Her belief in the goodness of Prem for wanting to avoid war shows a great deal of resonance.
The Thijarians' goal of remembering the forgotten dead also mirrors The Doctor’s own history of dying alone and the way The Doctor has a history of leaving forgotten dead behind her. Her own planet had been destroyed by war, The Doctor does believe Gallifrey exists at this point but it was still ravaged, so connecting to people who lost everything and committed to kindness resonates with her.
Connected to her views on weapons and war as bases of her identity we also have her overt moralising to other characters in their actions. (TV: The Woman Who Fell to Earth, TV: The Ghost Monument, TV: Demons of the Punjab, TV: Kerblam!, TV: Fugitive of The Judoon, Prose: Combat Magicks, Comic: Hidden Human History, Comic: Old friends)
In TV: Arachnids in The UK as a very prominent example of her moral ideals when faced with innocent spiders suffering and causing suffering.
“Doctor: Whatever happened, there are living, breathing organisms out there and we treat them with dignity. So here's what we're going to do. Robertson: Shoot them! Doctor: We're not going to shoot them! Robertson: What's wrong with you people? What is wrong with this country? Why don't you do what normal people do? Get a gun, shoot things, like a civilised person. Doctor: Because I've got a much better idea. Spiders are roaming this hotel searching for food. We're going to lure them in here with the promise of food, then deal with the spider mother in the ballroom. Oh, that sounds like the best novel Edith Wharton never wrote. Najia: Once they're in here, what happens? Jade: We shut them in and isolate them. Robertson: You're going to let spiders use my panic room? Jade: They deserve a humane, natural death.” & “Jade: She's suffocating. She's got too big to breathe efficiently. Even moving around in here, it's using up what little oxygen she can absorb. She won't survive for long. She's more scared of us than we are of her. Doctor: I'm so sorry this has happened to you. Graham: So what do we do, just leave her? (Robertson enters.) Doctor: No. Absolutely not. Robertson: My hotel, my rules. I am the future President of the United States. How's this for fire and fury? Doctor: No, don't! (He shoots the spider and she falls on her back, nearly hitting The Doctor.) Doctor: Put the gun down. She wasn't a real threat. She was dying anyway. Robertson: Ah, well, then it's a mercy killing. Doctor: I don't see any mercy in you.”
This decision The Doctor wants to make for the smaller spiders to starve or dehydrate to death. She backs the idea of a “natural death” even when it could be kinder to shoot them. The Spider Mother is also going to suffocate to death, an extremely painful way to die. Robertson is clearly acting out of a love for violence and selfishness, not truly wanting to be merciful. But his impure motives do not change the fact that there is a conversation to be had about euthanizing them instead of giving them painful ‘natural’ deaths. The Doctor may be correct but it's still interesting there were no consideration given by any of the characters who are worth hearing out.
We see another strong outward moralising moment in TV: The Battle of Ranskoor Av Kolos. She argues with Graham about his wanting revenge by killing Tzim Sha. She is against, even telling him to leave, she is right to warn him against murder. Which makes sense as they have killed before and she’s never liked it in any regeneration.
“Graham: Doc, can I have a word? Doctor: Of course. Graham: Just the two of us? Ryan: Fine. Come on, Yaz. Graham: I need to be honest with you, cos I am really grateful for everything you've done for me. Well, for us, you know? Everywhere we've been, all the adventures, been amazing. But if that is the creature from Sheffield, I will kill it if I can. For what it did to Grace. Doctor: Go back to the Tardis, Graham. Graham: No. Doctor: I won't let you do that. Graham: You ain't going to have a say in it. Doctor: You're better than this. You are. You have to be. If you kill him, I can't have you travel with me. That's if you even live. Graham: I understand. Doctor: No, you don't. We're going to rescue hostages. Anything that compromises them is dangerous. And if you kill him, you become the same as him. Graham: I ain't having that. Doctor: I'm serious, Graham. (She walks on.) Graham: And so am I.”
&
“Doctor: Where's Tim Shaw? Graham: Oh, he's taking a very long nap in a very small stasis chamber. Ryan: Of his own making. I like that. Graham: Yeah. Oh, I couldn't do it, Doc. Yeah, I had the chance. Too weak. Doctor: Graham O'Brien, you're the strongest person I know. Well, one of a few.”
The Doctor is trying to protect Graham and maintain her moral ground, something she is very devoted to. In this self view she supports putting Tzim-Sha in a tortuous situation is more moral than killing them, clearly showing how she interprets these moral quandaries. Another example of this is her monologuing  in TV: Orphan 55 :
“Doctor: ... I know what you're thinking, but it's one possible future. It's one timeline. You want me to tell you that Earth's going to be okay? Cos I can't. In your time, humanity is busy arguing over the washing-up while the house burns down. Unless people face facts and change, catastrophe is coming. But it's not decided. You know that. The future is not fixed. It depends on billions of decisions, and actions, and people stepping up. Humans. I think you forget how powerful you are. Lives change worlds. People can save planets, or wreck them. That's the choice. Be the best of humanity.”
This highlights that her moralising comes also from her years of experience, making it a clear connective tissue between Doctors and something that characterises this Doctor on her own terms.
Another facet of Thirteen’s identity formation is her tendency to have a false self. A trait that comes from personality disorders, especially in Cluster B personality disorders; Antisocial Personality Disorder, Borderline Personality Disorder, Histrionic Personality Disorder and Narcissistic Personality Disorder.
This is most clearly referenced by King James in TV: The Witchfinders
“Doctor: Yeah, yeah, I know. It must be comforting playing that role, hiding behind a title. James: Just as you hide behind Doctor, perhaps?”
This is an important way she intersects with the world, especially in Series Eleven where she is putting on this mask of being happy-go-lucky. The above symptoms and some later described here show that she is already struggling but is doing her best to act like she is someone she isn’t. Her false self and masking make her interactions feel stilted and start the above-discussed film between her and her companions.
The Doctor concept is bolstered when saving people and being gratified by helping, this heroic idea of what ‘The Doctor’ is meant to be is something The Doctor will hold on to. (TV: The Woman Who Fell to Earth, TV: Arachnids In The UK, TV: Kerblam!, TV: The Witchfinders, TV: Nikola Tesla's Night of Terror, TV: Praxeus, TV: Can You Hear Me, TV: The Halloween Apocalypse, TV: Eve of The Daleks, Prose: Combat Magicks, Prose: Molten Heart, & Prose: The Secret in Vault 13)
TV: It Takes You Away shows her putting herself in the hero role doing her best to protect everyone and having a fight response towards the Solitract. Once everyone is safe she lets the arousal in her body go down and she connects with the Solitract. This shows her heroic tendencies and some of her most honest kindness.
  In TV: The Haunting Villa Diodati Along with coming into a space of control when dealing with the historical figures, especially Byron, and while this control is a huge part of her actions in the story we also see when she comes it she wants to protect other people, even when it leaves her  very stressed. This carries into TV: Ascension of The Cybermen & TV: The Timeless Children.
A key aspect of identity and the way her trauma shows through for Thirteen is the revelations of the Timeless Child and the way this reframes who they think they are and their history.
The beginning of this arc with the destruction of Gallifrey (TV: Spyfall pt1) acts as a deeply re-traumatizing event. Dealing with being forced to view your planet in a state of destruction and the loss of her people for another time causes her to struggle and leaves her in a bit of an obsessive and dissociative state. During TV: Fugitive of The Judoon the repercussion of what she was forced to view others can see how she is fixating on the loss and the violence of The Master. Dissociative and repetitive behaviours become so disruptive that those around her notice:
“Ryan: She's doing it again. Spending hours at the controls looking for something. Thinks we haven't noticed. Graham: I'll ask her. Hey, Doc, what are you looking for? Doctor: How long have you been there? Yasmin: Twenty minutes? Doctor: You haven't. Ryan: What you looking for? Doctor: Not looking for anything. Yasmin: Don't lie to us. Doctor: The Master. Graham: Why would you do that? Yasmin: The Kasaavin took him. Doctor: Yes. They transported him to their dimension and I can't get there in the Tardis, but I thought if he escaped, I could track him. There's no sign. Ryan: I thought he'd be the last person you'd want to see. Doctor: He left a message for me. Graham: Saying what? Doctor: It's personal. Yasmin: Is that where you go, when you leave us to explore and you say you'll be back in an hour but you never are? Are you out looking for him? Where do you go? Doctor: Home. On my own. Yasmin: Why? Why not with us? Doctor: Cos you ask too many questions.”
In the same episode, there is a similar invocation of the trauma of having a place she cared about taken from her. The trauma reactions come out when in a high-stress situation. She doesn’t just point out something is wrong with the timeline, she says so graphically and mentions she’s seen it multiple times, she has no tact to be had here and she doesn’t even fully grasp what Gallifrey had done to her yet.
“Gat: There won't be two payments, because two of the same Time Lord can't occupy the same space at the same time. It's an abomination. It'll destroy the time streams before you get anywhere near Gallifrey. Doctor: What did you say?...Gallifreyan. You're from home. Gat: I serve for the glory of Gallifrey. Doctor: Then both of you can only be my past. But that's impossible, because I know my own past. I lived through it. All of it. Fugitive!Doctor: You're wrong.
Doctor: I'm not wrong. I've seen Gallifrey destroyed. Twice. First by a war, second by a lunatic who I'm still trying to find. In my time, Gallifrey doesn't exist. It's gone. Forever. And if you don't know that, you're in my past. So, you are only serving at the glory of ash and bone.”
This episode was overall very upsetting. She deals with flashbacks during this episode, we notice the hypervigilance and fight-bound procedural memories go back to the Fugitive!Doctor. Even when she has been fob-watched she already couldn’t hide who she was on the inside fully.
As we move forward with this arc (TV: Timeless Children) we end up with The Doctor learning about the abusive situation and mind-wiping that she went through repeatedly for an uncountable number of lives. She starts out being very confused and disbelieving;
“Doctor: I know my life. I know... I know who I am. Master: No, you don't. You never have. Your life has been hidden from you. Our founding parents wanted a noble creation myth for the Time Lords. Born To Rule. Doctor: I remember my home. I remember growing up. I remember you and me at the Academy together. Master: That happened. It just wasn't your first life. Doctor: Why would they lie? Why would they do that? Master: I wish it wasn't true, but it is. You know what I find the most infuriating? You always behaved like you were different, like you were... like you were special. And you were. You can see... you can see why I'm angry. A little piece of you is in me. All I am is somehow because of you, and believe me when I say, I cannot bear that. Doctor: Show me the rest. Master: I'm not sure you can cope with much... Doctor: Show me the rest! I have a right to know my own life.”
She starts to work through it when she is left in The Matrix by The Master.
“Fugitive!Doctor: Don't ask me, I'm as lost as you are in here. Maybe you just summoned me. Doctor: Where do you fit into all this? Were you me all that time ago? Were all my memories of you erased? Did they force me back into becoming a child? How many more of me are out there? Fugitive!Doctor: I don't have those answers. But say I did, would they even help? Doctor: Of course they would. All this, it means I'm not who I thought I was. Fugitive!Doctor: Because your memories aren't compatible with what you learnt today. Doctor: Yes. Fugitive!Doctor: Have you ever been limited by who you were before? Doctor: Ah. Now, that does sound like me talking. I'm so tired. The Matrix is sapping all the energy of out of me. Fugitive!Doctor: No time to be tired. Still, work to do out there. Lives at stake. Armies being born. People need The Doctor. Doctor: I don't know how to stop The Master. Fugitive!Doctor: Course you do. That one question that's nagging at you, the one thing he said that you didn't understand. Doctor: The one thing who said? The Master? Fugitive!Doctor: No. Get out of here. I know this place has blown your mind. Maybe you should return the compliment. Doctor: No, wait. Are you still there? Of course, she's still there. If you were me, you're buried within me, buried within... Too many thoughts. All right, first things first, what did she say? Mind blown. Yes! Of course! All this history, all these lies, it's too much stimulus. It might work. I've fought the Matrix before, denied its reality, I can do it again. Maybe...”
This moment is followed by a conversation with The Master within the same episode:
“Master: ... I have broken you and created a new race. And now? Now I shall conquer... everything. Oh. Doctor: You think you've broken me? You'll have to try harder than that. You've given me a gift. Of myself. You think that could destroy me? You think that makes me lesser? It makes me more. I contain multitudes more than I ever thought or knew. You want me to be scared of it because you're scared of everything. But I am so much more than you.”
While these words are good we know that this mental state isn’t the truth. The Flux arc shows that these positive statements do not fully resonate with her ability to fully integrate these revelations. In a sense, she wants to integrate these revelations about her history of abuse and trauma into her already scarred psyche. The Doctor is stubborn, inquisitive and brave by temperament, integration without action wasn’t going to come easy.
The memories of the Timeless Children being stolen also relate to the history The Doctor has with mind wipes with Donna (TV: Journey's End) and Clara (TV: Hell Bent) . A lot of pain is linked to the loss of memory. Swarm and Azure took the Fob Watch holding The Doctor’s memories away from her, opening them up to fracture her memories reinviting traumatic content to come up in her. (TV: The Vanquishers)
She is left with confusion about her past and pretty strong losses even if Gallifrey wasn’t kind to her she still grew up there and put themselves through hell to protect the common people of Gallifrey. To have lost herself, her past home and knowing another person died for her is exhausting to her mind and body. (TV: Timeless Children)
Instead of being free to process her trauma in a way that she could engage with other people, get trauma energy from her nervous system and even just get some fresh air she is taken into custody by the Judoon. She is left in a place that forces isolation and static movements. She is incapable of doing anything to help herself. She is forced into a situation that is already traumatic, being stressed in a situation with no escape, and carrying recent wounds that can’t heal. Terror without escape and resolution is the basis of trauma.
She mentions that she was imprisoned and that it hurt her in TV: Revolution of The Daleks.
“Harkness: Why were you in prison in the first place? Doctor: Evading the Judoon. Twice at once. Then once I was in, they took 7,000 other offences into consideration. Harkness: They stopped at seven? Doctor: I was in prison for being me... right at the point when I wasn't sure what that meant. Ah, it's been a tough few decades. Harkness: You're okay now, yeah? Doctor: Oh, I guess we'll find out. Wakey-wakey. Harkness: Hey! Doctor: Nice nap? Thanks for waiting. I had a lot to think about in there. And three very special people I've missed. Harkness: One of them was me, right? Doctor: You never change. Harkness: Wish I could say the same. Doctor: Right. Find me my fam.”
Panic and obsession she had about her lost memories became intensely powerful over time. This leads to trying to interrogate Karvanista in TV: Halloween Apocalypse mirrors a very real need people with dissociative amnesia have to understand what they have lost. This extends to  TV: Once, Upon Time we see flashbacks happen a lot tied into some of the sci-fi elements. Her getting lost in time reliving a traumatic incident that The Fugitive!Doctor experienced. It’s stronger than Yasmin Khan and Vinder experienced. While not directly flashbacks as it’s time distortions and the Mouri it very much mirrors when you have complete flashbacks and lose track of reality, and can’t let go easily of trying leaving her very distressed when she loses that connection psychically with her past.
“Doctor: No, no, no. Put me back, put me back. I want to go back in there. I have to get back in! Yasmin: Doctor, it's okay. Doctor: It's not okay! Not for me! You don't understand anything. Yasmin: All right. Doctor: I had a chance while it was broken. Vinder: Well, it's not now. The Mouri, they're all back. Yasmin: You saved our lives.”
(TV: Once, Upon Time)
Her memories and fears around her stolen past come to a head in TV: Survivors of The Flux when she is able to meet Tecteun face to face. This woman we know medically, psychologically, and emotionally abused The Doctor for a very long time. Tecteun used The Doctor as a science experiment for her own gain and after that as a weapon. It’s horrific for a child to have been tortured medically so much she died repeatedly. The Doctor confronts her adoptive ‘mother’ about the situation and instead of truly getting answers or help she has to deal with the violence her ‘mother’ enacted on her and the universe being manipulative.
“Tecteun: Yes. I found you. A lost child, alone, beneath a monument on a deserted planet, seemingly deposited thereby a wormhole. No way back, no one to care for you. Doctor: You took something that didn't belong to you. Tecteun: I rescued you. Would you prefer to have been left? Doctor: You assumed I came through that wormhole, but you don't know. What if I was waiting there to collected? What if I was supposed to be taken through it? What if whoever left me there was taken by that wormhole? Tecteun: What if, what if, what if? Doctor: You denied me my life! Tecteun: I gave you a life. Everything you are is because of me. But I understand. You think you could have been something else, someone else. Doctor: Maybe. I'll never know. Tecteun: You judge me for giving you the journey of your lifetime. What do you do, Doctor? Pick people up, take them with you? You adopt them, use them, for reassurance, for company. They're your experiments, just as you were mine. Doctor: We are not the same. Tecteun: This just shows I was right to order your memories erased.” & “Doctor: A Galifreyan device for the protecting and storage of memories and identities. Of course, you kept them, the memories you took from me. Tecteun: A good scientist never throws away their workings. We had them quantum stored for a long time in the Weeping Angel who tracked you and betrayed you but don't worry, it didn't escape. Everything has been transferred now, stored in that fob watch. Doctor: How much was lost? How many lives? How many people have I been? Dozens? Hundreds? Thousands? Tecteun: What would you give to know? What if I offered you a choice? You can return to the dying universe you left, defend it from its inevitable destruction and fail, or rejoin Division. Rejoin me. Come with us into the next universe, into the beyond. Help me build! With your memories restored. Be complete again. The next universe holds the other end of the wormhole where I found you. That universe may be where you're from, where you began. Your origins, perhaps. Think of the discoveries that would await us both there. A new start. Doctor: If you really knew me, you'd know I'd never agree to any of this, no matter how strong the incentive.”
Tecteun takes credit for all of the good Thirteen and The Doctor more widely had and done and her tendency to pick up people across time. And blames The Doctor for why they continued her abuse of The Doctor by forcing her to lose part of herself and her history. Pretending to know The Doctor and leaving The Doctor afraid of herself and angry at her story. More so than just losing the memories there is also a lot of anger at the way someone would do that to her. The Flux being sent out to the world is something The Doctor would never allow, showing that even when Tecteun tries to manipulate she doesn’t understand everything The Doctor is.
While Tecteun did change The Doctor on a deep level by what she did to them as a child, it doesn’t define everything The Doctor has been and can be. While Teteun views The Doctor as a daughter she has no grasp of the love and loss The Doctor has been through, who she is now.
The Doctor recovers the fob watch with her memories, given what she wanted but after more violence and loss. Realising she was keeping people at bay.
“Doctor: ... Yaz. I'm sorry. I didn't let you into what I was doing. Going after Karvanista. What I was looking for. I shouldn't have shut you out. Yasmin: No. You shouldn't have. Doctor: I was looking for information about me. A life I never knew. I want to tell you everything. Yasmin: I'd like that. DAN: Did you say left or right? Yasmin: Come on, Scouse, let Yorkshire show you the way. (The Doctor takes the fob watch out of her pocket, then removes a blue globe from the console and holds it over the long, long tunnel down into the workings of the Tardis.) Doctor: Do me a favour. Keep this safe somewhere deep within this Tardis. Somewhere I can never find it. (Drops it and replaces the globe.) Doctor: Unless I really ask for it.”
This shows that The Doctor can't deal with everything at that point when it comes to her possible memories or fully connecting with Yasmin Khan. That she doesn’t show or explain the fob watch Yaz is purposeful, she trusts Yaz very much but she doesn't trust herself to fully connect with her past. The way she phrases it to the TARDIS also points to a cold fear/anger flight mindset, showing she is still struggling to process her trauma. No matter if it is a good idea or not, she can’t deal with it all right now. But her true confidant here is her TARDIS, no matter how much she loves Yaz.
I. MUN INTRO Hi, I’m Aqssa, the mun behind Phillip! I love deep analysis, tigers, DnD, video games, drawing, and long walks on the bustling streets of my city. I’m a practicing Muslim, happily married, and have a mini schnauzer named Rupert Bear (Rupie for short!), who I got cuz I always wanted those kinds of dogs ever since I watched Lady and the Tramp as a little kid ~Let's be friends! ~ I’m most active on Instagram (DM for @), and I’m also on Discord @aqssu, though my activity there ebbs and flows a lot.
II. BLOG OVERVIEW This is a private, selective, mutals-only, multi-verse/ship RP blog for Prince Phillip (Disney’s 1959 Sleeping Beauty) that’s been around since 2013. My main / default verse is an original, canon-divergent storyline set in a medieval Germanic empire, with old court politics, curses, fey lore, and a tangled royal history. You can read more about it here.
I write across many verses and timeline, from traditional fairytale settings to modern AUs. I love exploring a range of tones: tender, dramatic, courtly, tragic, funny, romantic, eerie, and everything in between. My goal is to stay creatively flexible; I care far more about interesting character dynamics and story potential than perfect lore-matching.
Multi-ship / multi-verse means that each interaction stands on its own unless we talk otherwise. I’m very into long-term plotting and exploration... but also just down to throw our muses together and see what happens. Sooooo if you’re unsure whether we’d mesh or you’re worried your character doesn’t “fit” my setting, please don’t stress. I’m flexible. I’m REALLY friendly! Just reach out.
This blog is also mutuals-only. Whether it’s me following you first or vice versa, I always assume following back indicates the want to rp with each other. I do not write with non-mutuals.
I cannot believe I have to say this: but NO. FUCKING. AI. Do NOT use ANY of my content for AI training. I will find a way to destroy everything you hold dear ok ?? ok.
III. WRITING STYLE For my writing, for multiple reasons, I prefer iconless, minimal formatting. Please respect that. Totally judgment-free zone if you use them, but it’s just really not my thing.
I have a lot of thoughts about how aesthetics are often viewed in the Tumblr RPC space. For me, just know this: I don’t judge a blog by its graphics. I follow based on your writing and whether I feel like we’d vibe well creatively, not on how aesthetically polished or stylized your theme / pinned post / etc. are.
All graphics made by me!
IV. ROLEPLAY CONDUCT RP should be fun! If a thread isn’t working, please just let me know. No hard feelings, no pressure. I’m always happy to pivot, brainstorm something new, or drop it entirely.
I juggle a full-time in-office job in Tech, a dog, and newlywed life, so while I try to reply and chat regularly, some weeks are more hectic than others. But please keep in mind that I have a lot of commitments in my life, so my activity and social battery may not always be super there. I always try my best, but I really appreciate your patience with replies or communication pauses. I promise it’s never personal, and I’m always grateful when folks are kind and understanding about timing.
That said, I really do care about keeping things balanced and showing up for the people I write with. I generally follow the good faith / karma rules of roleplay: treat people with honesty, generosity, and basic consideration. I assume the best from others unless given a reason not to. I don’t chase replies or guilt people into activity, and I hope the same is extended to me. If you expect memes / asks, you should send them to others, and all good things like that. Threads can ebb and flow naturally, and that’s okay. Even if threads may be few and far in between, what matters most to me is mutual excitement, creativity, and trust.
I value communication a lot. If we’re vibing ooc, brainstorming together, or just talking about our characters like they’re real people… I’ll probably write faster, more excitedly, and with way more heart. I'm not here for follower counts or post aesthetics — I’m here to write cool stuff with cool people who care about character, connection, and craft.
V. PLOTTING I loooooove plotting and discussing character dynamics. In fact, I prefer it over slice-of-life rp. Friendships, romantic ships, enemy-ships, let's talk it out!
Fluff, grit, action, platonic, messy angst... I really do love it all. I’m open to most genres and themes, as long as they serve the characters and give us something interesting to explore. More thoughts on that, actually:
I adore really world-rich, emotionally layered threads, the ones that feel like they’re part of something old and alive. I do have a ton of side characters woven into Phillip’s world, and you’re more than welcome to write with them! You can read about them here. I actually prefer settings where the world feels fleshed out.. ancient courts, forgotten forests, shadowy kingdoms with history and lore we can dig into together.
If you're into building those kinds of spaces (or playing in the ones I’ve already made), we’ll probably click super duper really well.
I’m here for collaborative, story-driven writing, but know that I don’t need things to be perfectly plotted from the start, but I do love when we’re both engaged and excited about where it’s going.
VI. BOUNDARIES Please don't write over my characters' actions or choices. And no godmoding. Please learn about it if you're unfamiliar in this Reddit thread. If we’re planning something intense, like a fight, a betrayal, a twist, just check in with me first so we’re on the same page.
This is a drama-free blog; I'm not here for ooc conflict, vagueposting, or weirdass high school energy. I'm way too old for that. If there's ever confusion or concern, I genuinely welcome mature, respectful conversation.
SPEAKING of old!! I was born in 1994 and I do not RP with minors in any capacity, period. No matter the story, tone, or character. If you’re under 18, I won’t interact. Do not fucking lie about your age.
Don’t use manipulative behavior to push for attention, ships, or threads.
Don’t send anonymous hate. I will delete and block without response.
Most importantly, please note and respect that I don’t write smut. No judgment at all toward writers who enjoy that kind of content, it’s just not something I create here.
However... am I here for romantic tension? Longing glances? A moment held too long in the dark? Makeout sesh? Sure. You know what helllllll yeah. But when it comes to explicitly sexual content, I will always fade to black or imply it offscreen.
Other mature content (blood, violence, etc.) may appear on this blog, and I always tag it accordingly. Please tag your NSFW content as well in whatever way you want. If it's frequently not tagged at all, I will softblock/unfollow to keep my dash a comfortable space.
VI. SHIPPING Phillip may flirt with your character, as he’s charming by nature, but don't assume I'm trying to ship with your character. I actually really don’t jump into ships right away, and I'm sure if you scroll through my blog you can see that I’m pretty selective about them. I really value organic build-up, mutual enthusiasm, and earned chemistry. That means I’m happy to explore tension, flirtation, complicated dynamics, etc., but only if we’re both into it and have talked about it first.
I do NOT ship with anyone under the age of 26, even if the characters are older. End of story.
At the end of the day, I’m here to write stories with weight, care, and feeling. If you're on the same page, I’d love to explore what our muses can become together, whether it's a slow burn, enemies-to-lovers, tragic soulmates, you name it!
Thanks for reading this far. I love you for doing it!
puzzle game group dynamics communication thing… if not accommodative and not demonstrative then it would be gathering intel and then deciding on decisions. reflecting on progress and finding objectives
so ig evaluative like doing surveys, making analysis record and. benchmarking progress, case studies hmm
korekiyo would be better at record keeping since like he recognizes phenomenons and he’s able to better organize which long-distance communication devices and evidence encompasses which conversation in regards to purpose.
since being around ppl in-person doesn’t seem to be his thing. unless it’s to be accommodated and have his concerns be validated and addressed since he’s usually able to very quickly reflect and analyze things when they aren’t working as intended
and in the speedrun au his personal feelings and feedback must be accounted for. especially since he isn’t physically capable to make good use of actually pulling off speedrun exploits and him being able to organize items for amnesia treatment meta is extremely handy for helping ppl recover from amnesia
shuichi is quite fine helping around with whoever so long as he doesn’t feel like he’s being ignored or invalidated. he doesn’t seem to take confrontation very well and with that in mind.
he’s good at recognizing correlations but that only gets shuichi so far especially if he’s fixating on superficial interactions but correlation still has its uses and giving him space that his current anchor of correlation has him hit a brick wall.
he should step back wait for his turn so not only can other people discuss their feelings/points , it’ll give shuichi opportunities of yknow. listening to other people and considering more thing than just the ideas at hand. the intent behind why this point is being brought up.
how that point makes the ppl in this room feel by accepting that people will react differently depending on the individual.
correlation should not encompass the whole discussion there are more things at play then what shuichi recognizes.
and its overwhelming and stressful and can be a lot of pressure on shuichi
but it only gets easier if he continues to keep trying to expand and improve and everyone will try to assure shuichi that. yeah we are handling things and that shuichi is doing his part by at least being present for the esports demo meta.
and his participation means a lot to everyone. that he at least has the courage to even show up by his own choice. the esports mfs very much try to make a effort to make shuichi feel appreciated
aside from maybe tsumugi bc she’s critical-
but also isn’t shuichi also critical at times as well. but that actually is pretty helpful since tsumugi’s demo meta is about learning and being critical does make learning. do the learning or smth
and it’s good use of farming simulator zone time as well, shuichi needs to put in the work.
the speedrun au is all about putting in the work for those records .
checks stop-watch. yup the farm sim speedrun was a really good idea
keebo is overall flexible all around but due to “twitch chat” still being a factor he is unreliable for maintaining tight participation in any given speedrun meta.
but he is still very communicative and with sequence-based pattern recognition he catches on quick with recognizing the causes of any problems ppl have been bumping into.
insanely helpful for tenko’s demo meta. which is all about unaddressed issues and figuring how to account for them but realizing the problem is only the start. finding the cause of the problem is getting on track to fixing it
keebo is also sometimes around for tsumugi’s demo meta but tsumugi rather only talk to him to coordinate objectives for “twitch chat” to follow
but he’s fine with accompanying shuichi or rantaro if tsumugi is trying to make them learn how to be smarter. and keebo will be able to convince rantaro from leaving to do his own exploit exploration thing bc he hardly spends much time communicating with anyone
bc rantaro in particular thinks tsumugi’s demo meta is a waste of time but if it means shuichi and keebo require his company.
then he’ll put up with tsumugi
bc he requires shuichi and keebo to help him with exploits bc pattern recognition OP for exploit finding
and doesn’t want to suddenly have shuichi turn on rantaro bc of rantaro being a menace towards tsumugi.
bc shuichi is quick to jump to conclusions like that and its hard for him to change his mind unless he gets an apology
and its just more. well shuichi is allowed to choose what he wants to do. if he rather learn or explore. rantaro doesn’t want to have to tell him what he needs to do and shuichi should be able to make consider multiple choices on what would be good use of his time
and tsumugi is usually available since she hardly does anything but ends up taking up loads that other ppl ignore for focusing on the main speedrun objective.
tsumugi is taking on more chore work than fucking kirumi since kirumi is setting a example on how to do things efficiently for other ppl to learn from
rantaro is still the least communicative but he also needs to be seen as reliable and have ppl still appreciate and recognize his efforts
and also needs to prove he’s doing well to ease the concerns of kokichi, kaito and himiko since those 3 are able to take turns to validate each other and kinda eventually worry about rantaro since he hardly approaches either of them. but they often check up on rantaro just to see how he’s been faring.
which rantaro ig appreciates but he’s a bit concerned abt how unfocused and easily distracted those 3 are. compared to rantaro who very much is completely focused on speedrunning
but anyways he does try to be present sometimes to prevent ppl from feeling worried that rantaro is being neglected bc he doesn’t show up for anyone unless specifically approaching others to ask for help with a 2+ user exploit or glitch.
if it means everyone will maintain focus on the objective then rantaro will try to show up when he can.
and also his assessments for anything that rantaro recognizes would be helpful for helping ppl figure out which locations to access next to pull off a exploit to enter.
particularly useful for the esports players to keep being updated on to try to use as new information for their demo metas to further progress with finding more options
rantaro also runs records by korekiyo to have him be able to parse what any of these exploits might have to do with certain drawbacks of whatever those exploits encompass that korekiyo would recognize
and the puzzle game ppl do end up being very communicative towards eachother with long-distance methods rather than interacting in person but tend to also need to interact with others for their insight since the demo metas eventually need to decide on something
but they only start to branch out with applying pattern recognition to different situations under tsumugi’s guidance.
they’ll never do it on their own unless specifically taught and actively using that new taught technique to be able to be able to both explore, communicate and assess with others and reflect on how they can further develop their knowledge otherwise unavailable
HEADCANON/ANALYSIS: So, y’know how in mostly every version, Donnie is scrawnier than the rest? Kinda aligning up with Mikey, too? I think most of that kinda comes from the lack of physique he really holds. As in, his muscle mass, and, ooh, this really kinda might be tough to put into words… he’s the tallest, but clearly the less likely to punch his way through a war zone without being hurt. Reckon, alone, and just with bare fists. Due to his height and lack of muscle; he comes out as scrawny, and easier to handle than the other three. Kinda putting Donnie permanently at a disadvantage, and leaving it up to his skills and abilities to shine through for him.
Which really explains his 2018 (mostly) inferiority complex. Especially (back to 2012) when Karai points out his scrawniness and he defensively replies “hey, I’m not scrawny!” Clearly implying, he knows, and he’s obviously a tad insecure about it. Most likely why, he always aiming to impress his brothers with his inventions, so they probably won’t feel like he’ll be useless to them. Obviously due to the fact, he’s the brains, he fixes things, he’s the one to rely on when technology is the enemy.
Although, I think that fuels his ‘ego,’ but a huge inferiority complex, and how agile his flexibility is. If he can’t hurt, he can dodge and find other ways to make use of his fighting. While, his weapon is pretty symbolic to that fact, that he just knows he can’t and won’t do near the damage his brothers, (especially Leo & Raph), he can at least be useful when it comes to ingenuity. Hence, the Bo Staff being the weapon of choice and tactical advantages.
He’s also clearly more on the defensive end of fights; making sure that he doesn’t lose ground, keeping his front open like Raph and Mikey are forced to. Like Leo, he’s quick, and has most advantages when it does come to tactics, perseverance, ingenuity, and, most of the time, field. He can easily, and I mean, just easily, use the staff for higher grounding, fling it around others to knock them off of their feet, and send a Gatling of attacks thrown at the head with a wooden (or uranium (I think?)) stick! Kinda referencing when 2012 first fought Shredder, and Donnie basically got knocked in the head, 5+ times by his own weapon. (It humors me to this day)
Unironically, proving the concept of his inferiority complex on the field. (Lowkey don’t even get me started on how in the 2020 RotTMNT film they sorta imply he’s even physically falling behind Mikey). He almost has to reply on his tech to even, well, keep up, and make sure that if he can’t fight, he’s not useless, completely. It also adds onto the stress, and extreme pressure, he’s also the only one who can do most of the high staked missions and routes. Which, supports the popular headcanon, and I’m stealing it just for this glorious purpose of the headcanon, he barely ever sleeps. Like, in a week, he can coherently sleep for barely two nights, if two, at all!
In short, I also don’t think, no matter how hard or much he does train; he’ll ever be had buff as his brothers. I also don’t necessarily think he wants to, either, he’s definitely the one who’d slack off any chance he gets just to work on other things, that are “to more importance.” (Mf definitely says that as an excuse to Raph or Leo because he’s so petty, and I love him). Besides, he’d definitely find training just as boring, and gets most frustrated with the reasons his brothers excuse him from his room to train. If it’s Splints, he’s trap is shut, but in his head, the training is pointless, and if they want more battle experience and tactical advantages; fuck around and find out. (Basically go fight the baddies yourselves, and learn their movesets). At least, that’s his train of thought for battles, (especially first-times). Most of the reasons he finds it pointless, is because he feels he doesn’t grow from it. Sure, he’s tough, and strong, but not invincible or powerful like his brothers.
This is so late and repressed I just ended forgetting to post it. Yippee
Meet Gastornis (or Diatryma, depending on where you are and when you first found out about it)
Tumblr media
Answer posted below. Please do not look until after you voted.
If you were to guess based on first impressions, you might think that this 2 meter (6’6” ft.) tall bird would be a fearsome hunter. And sure, that large head and beak would have been strong and produce a powerful bite, but the rest of Gastornis does not support a predatory lifestyle.
For starters, its legs are thick and relatively short; built for strength and support rather than speed and agility. Based on trackways, the claws would have been relatively blunt. Moving up, the neck and skull are short and sturdily built. This would have limited flexibility, something that would be detrimental to a carnivore. Topping it all off, the beak lacks the obvious hook found in carnivorous birds.(And before anyone asks, yes, the Phorusrhacids, which are carnivorous, were also massive flightless birds, but they had longer legs and necks, a hooked bill, and sharp talons, not to mention direct evidence of predation in fossil beds. The only reason Gastornis was initially thought to be carnivorous was that its bones were found in the same deposits as eohippus back in the 19th century)
Isotopic and geochemical analysis of Gastornis bones yielded a surprising result. The elements, especially calcium, were found to be most similar to fossil herbivores. You heard that right, they were herbivores, meaning that you’d be quite safe if you decided to visit Europe, China, or North America during the Eocene.
Then again, the saying goes that the chances of being eaten are tiny, but never zero. (Another fun fact is that family Gastornithidae is most closely related to waterfowl and screamers, which is why I based the plumage loosely on a Muscovy duck)
I love your meta so much! Was curious if you had any hcs about what Griffith and Guts’ romantic relationship would be like? Like love languages, ways they’d enjoy spending time together/things they enjoy talking about, whether the Band of the Hawk would be in the know, if you could see them going on dates….anything, really!
Thank you!
Hm it's hard for me to answer questions like this lol because I'm not very creative and most of my headcanons are pretty flexible depending on the context. It's actually really hard for me to think of like, things they'd casually talk about eg lol, it's one of the main reasons I don't write much fic.
That said I like to imagine that they'd be an open secret among the Hawks, plausible deniability but lots of rumours and their closer friends know. They'd think they're subtler than they are, but they're not obvious enough for people who don't know them well to guess anything.
I don't think they'd really go on planned dates in canon, but I think they'd like to spend time together whenever they can. They'd probably enjoy sparring as a couples activity lol. I've imagined scenes where like, Griffith reads to Guts while they're in bed in Griffith's room, or the two of them just wandering around Midland together like in this official art:
Tumblr media
Or when Griffith's a king, seeking Guts out just to relax in his company and unwind and just like, chill together in a low-stress way. Also I think Guts would be into helping Griffith brush/wash his hair, Guts seems to have a thing for Griffith's hair.
I'm not super into love languages as a thing irl, but it's an easy way to conceptualize characters/ships so for Guts and Griffith I think both have quality time and words of affirmation as their main priorities. They both desperately want to be loved and accepted for who they are rather than what they can be/do, so every reminder that they just genuinely like each other as people is important to them imo.
I have a list of griffguts related headcanons here if you want to check it out for more thoughts on their romantic relationship! And I have a tag here that probably has some more thoughts on them as individuals and together. Oh and my griffguts tag has both analysis and headcanon stuff.
Thanks for the ask!
