gamecube modding is a thing~~~
today I learned that xeno mod chips for the gamecube and SD card slot readers exist for the gamecube
and that is the only conceivable way I can think of within the bounds of the law to save and play gamecube games on an emulator~~
now~~~ how hard is it to solder? I'm assuming I'll need a magnifier to see anything and I bought a jewlers lens to try to fix a pair of sony headphones I had w a dead battery~~ was getting hot where it shouldn't with the new battery installed tho so rip those headphones... cause I SWEAR I installed the battery correctly... but no.... it got hot where it shouldn't have and i didn't know how to fix.
so ye that's why I have a jewler's lens lol. extra magnification~~~ which is what my visually impaired ass needs :)
fun little project ~~ or will I brick my gamecube instead~~?
I just want to back up my games and emulate them~~~
and you need a special disk drive to do dreamcast games too I think T_T;;;
tho idk if modding will help to fix the gamecube anyway tho, cause some disks it can't read, last time I tried to play sonic adventure 2 battle, the disk drive caught, caught, caught, let me play it a bit, repeat process until it crashed... or it kept catching in the same way and not loading at all~~
idk if there's something wrong w the laser or what that's making it do that.....
I just wanna play older games T_T;;;
or~~~~ risk getting caught being a pirate~~~?

the night I was drunk and high af I was looking for more RE4 cheats bc even though I had invincible Ashley cheat on she kept fucking dying from the catapults and my drunken self was deeply upset and determined cheating was the only way through and I just needed to find a different invincible cheat and everything would be okay
and somehow I get to this set of RE4 gamecube cheats that has many tempting things like playable Ada and Ashley and partner is Luis... so I download a gamecube RE4 rom, none of the cheats work, I'm deeply upset and pass out bc drunk
the next morning I realize my problem: all the cheats were specifically for European RE4 copies. downloaded a European copy and and they all FUCKIMG WORK. there are NO cheats like this for RE4 wii edition. so even though I still prefer RE4 wii edition's controls and general gameplay and the fact the screen is bigger I have to fuck with RE4 gamecube edition too because I can further my agendas
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
(partner Luis does crash the game all the fucking time unfortunately, but he's great when he works. because he actually will attack and throw you ammo randomly like he does in the cabin fight. playable Ashley can't attack at all, so it's fun to just play Ashley with partner Luis shooting everything for you. he's still nice when playing as Ada, can't complain about free ammo and some extra backup)

I want to start playing the legend of Zelda. Which game should I start with😔
"Breath of the Wild" is an amazing start in my opinion, its the game I started playing. Its avaliable on Switch, which is the only Nintendo console still functioning lmao ((although BOTW isnt a traditional style of Zelda game, its still super fun and introduces you to the basic concept of dungeons))
If you have a ds/3ds ((or an emulator, emulators are great backups imo)) then i would suggest "A Link Between Worlds". its by far my favorite game art/gameplay wise, and has my favorite character Ravio. I personally haven't played it, but ive watched a full playthrough several times and it has simple but fun gameplay. An easy traditional Zelda game, and its the game that has Lorule !!
And i think "Ocarina of Time" would be another decent start. Its a gamecube game, but its so popular theres several emulators im sure. Its a fan favorite, and i think its simpler than Majoria's Mask
I would also suggest "Twilight Princess" but be warned there is a stupid hard mission around half way through the game..... Im playing this game rn, and its my third Zelda game im actually playing. Very pretty visuals, great character design, darker story, and wolf Link (which is cute). The stupid mission is the only reason im not suggesting it as a first game 🧍‍♂️🧍‍♂️
BUT YEAH !!!! BOTW is what I started with, ALBW is my favorite game, and OOT is a fan favorite !!!! hehehehe im so glad you wanna start playing Zelda :D I love this series so much !! I like playing on original hardware, but emulators exist too (since a lot of the original hardware for most games aren't manufactured anymore, sadly). I haven't used an emulator, so im helpless there....

So for Christmas I got the Pokemon Colosseum Bonus disc. Which is a disc that includes a preview of Pokemon Colosseum, a trailer for the Jirachi Wishmaker movie, and a special event that can distribute jirachi to pokemon ruby or sapphire.
Notably, this and the Pokemon Channel bonus disc are the only ways to legitimately shiny hunt Jirachi.
You link your gameboy advance to the gamecube using a weird link cord and the disc sends the data for Jirachi to your game cartridge. Then you can check the Jirachi in your game and see if it's shiny. Unfortunately you can only recieve one jirachi per save file, so if the jirachi isn't shiny then ordinarily you'd have to completely restart the game and play up to receiving the pokedex before receiving another jirachi, making it approximately a 10 minute process per 1 jirachi encounter - longer if using the pokemon channel disc, as that jirachi can only be redeemed after entering the hall of fame.
HOWEVER it's been discovered that by saving twice before receiving jirachi, getting jirachi, then selecting to completely clear all data but turning the gba off before the wipe is complete, you can intentionally corrupt your game and force the game to load a backup save (which will have been created before you received the jirachi, thus you can receive another immediately without having to replay the beginning of the game.) This makes it approximately 2 minutes per jirachu rather than 10 minutes.
I realize this is nothing to anyone here not interested in shiny pokemon. But it's so cool to me & is a shiny hunt that always felt like a pipe dream because the bonus disc is rare and expensive. It's such a cool hunt, and it's endlessly exciting to me that I'm actually doing this hunt at all.

activity missing visiting dream towns in new leaf. im kinda surprised that there's isn't a reddit or a community on here for sharing town backups so people can visit that way (like sharing a gamecube memory card when i think about it) until pretendo has dream suite working.
i can also see how vetting those files for viruses and actual town theft that used to go on back in the day ruins that option :/

Emulation
As a lover of retro video games and media in general, the topic of emulation plays a huge part in conversations around the hobby. I'm just a dude with a blog, so take any opinion here with a grain of salt, but I'm going to attempt to organize my thoughts here. I have heard and been a part of many conversations around the topic and I think it's something that deserves to be explored by any lover of classic media, especially video games. I believe, in short, that digital file backups are an incredible resource to preservationists. How I came to that conclusion, is the purpose of this post.
I'll begin in the summer of 2005, as I turn 16 and me and my friends get jobs and start driving, we're finding ourselves spending our hard earned dozens of dollars on Super Nintendo, GameBoy, Genesis, and PS1 games. There are 2 places close by us in a small town in South Carolina to find troves of classic games. The first place is the flea market, where vendors set up a booth or table and display their wares like an incredibly redneck trash convention; and the ONE retro gaming store in town. We spend the day searching through stacks of sunbleached and cigarette smoke stained SNES cartridges. The PS2, GameCube, and Xbox are hotter than summer on the equator, and many of the games from the old systems are dirt cheap. It didn't matter what game it was, it was usually less than ten bucks and you'd get at least a couple hours of fun out of it. It was during one of these trips that I saw my first real experience of collector pricing and video game inflation.
Marvel Vs. Capcom for PS1, behind a glass case next to some Japanese Castlevania game (I was this simple at the time, and that has become my favorite version of my favorite game in recent years) for Sega Saturn, and each game garnered a price much higher than any of the other games not held behind a piece of glass. I had to know why, and I wanted to know why that particular game was so expensive. I made the mistake of asking. In traditional early 2000s video game reseller style, a neck bearded "gentlesir" in a World of Warcraft t-shirt explained that the game was highly sought after and with not many copies printed, the laws of supply and demand obliged a higher price tag. I was appalled.
My best friend at the time, standing next to me, was almost offended by the mansplaination of the rising price of old games to us. The following week, he messaged me as soon as I logged onto AIM. "Fuck that nerd at the store, check this out" with a hyperlink below the text. That hyperlink was directed to a torrent of a file titled MarvelVSCapcom. My best friend then send me a .zip file with everything I needed to play that game on my Compaq Presario with Windows XP. That was game on. From then on, I would seek out the rarest and most sought after games. Games I had never heard of, and some I would never remember. The early days of PC emulation of classic consoles were a total blast.
The SNES, Genesis, and PS1 were able to be processed with a basic machine and you could get far into the games. I used this like my personal arcade for years. Then one day the old computer died, and I started off to college. I didn't particularly have any interest and instead viewed it as a hobby I'd grown out of. And that's where the post ends.
Of course, years later, I'll meet my partner, they'll convince me to get a Switch, and my love for the hobby would start all over again. The selling point? The retro emulators. I begin exploring some PS3 and XB360 era ports, but I'm here for the 16 bit blast processing of the Genesis emulator, and the classic Mario and Kirby titles for SNES. I never was an e shopper, though, and had no idea what some of these games I was seeing on the internet were.
This is where I should add that I am blessed with ASD\ADHD and I love research. I fell and injured my ankle in 2023 could not walk for 6 months. I decided to purchase Skyrim and Animal Crossing to bide my days while I recouped. One day I got bored and decided to see if any games were on sale. A particular bundle caught my eye. Gamedec and Dex \ 2 games for $1.99, and I said why not? And so began my hyper fixation on indie games in the eShop.
I will add that this is a very long story, but I will edit and speak more about this time period in future posts.
I tried many different indie games, and decided to try super Metroid for SNES on the NSO. I fell in love. The exploration. The feeling of being lost and hopeless in a strange place. The feeling of success when you find a new area or power up. There was something about this game that a lot of modern games didn't give me. It was more fun and exciting. I was hooked. So I began researching.
Joining a few FB groups, I learned about how people are emulating without a PC in the modern era. I dive and dive an learn more and more. I finally purchased a handheld device strictly for emulating classic games. I also have my old consoles, and am purchasing many of my favorite games from one of the MANY local video games stores in my small but growing city. I don't necessarily NEED to emulate if I can find the game for a reasonable price, right?
That brings us here. 2025. Used games are at an all time high. Used consoles? The ones you can find are going to hurt your wallet, especially for one in good condition. The ethical dilemma of spending hundreds of dollars on hardware and a disc to play Castlevania: Symphony Of The Night on PS1 is solved by simplying adding a couple files to your phone. With some game carts and CDs going for HUNDREDS or sometimes THOUSANDS of dollars, if all you want to do is play the game, I find it completely ethical to obtain a backup of the game file and play it. The developers and publishers don't get paid off the 2nd hand market. Sure, support your local game store, and if Chrono Trigger is $500 worth of fun, then spend the money. I cannot justify, personally, the $150+ price tag of many Sega Saturn games, and I don't expect others to, either. My final point is that until a) Video Game license holders allow reprints and republishing old games for modern consoles, or b) a streaming service like Spotify for classic games becomes available to the public, then we are left with option C) emulation.
The sentiment of Piracy is Preservation has been prevalent for a very long time. As an enjoyer of classic media from the 80s, 90s, and early 2000s, I have to know that much of my interaction will be through digital backups. Many of this media only exists via digital preservation. Until we have a digital library option for video games, I HIGHLY recommend experiencing these works of art the easiest way possible.
Tumblr media
I must add that I do not recommend obtaining any digital backups in unethical or illegal means.

continually keep getting surprised w linux~~
setting up a gamecube homebrew disk to back up my games and play them without having the game disk inserted, I needed to make the disk fat32 which was something I didn't think you could do in linux; pleasantly surprised to learn that yes you can~~ I forgot what partition editor I just used tho..... am using KDE~~~
I've got the disk created~~~ but don't have the xeno chip installed yet, cause I don't have solder, and my visually impaired butt is doubting that I can even install it by myself cause the points i need to solder are very small
T_T;;;
magnification head lamp need~~~
but ye if I set the disk up correctly, I can now softmod my gamecube somehow and back up disks hopefully without the xeno chip for the time being~~
but idk if it'll work nor do I really know how to make a save exploit game file, and I also maybe don't have any of the viable games to do that on me rn so can't do that to test tonight
:(
wish I knew where the action replay disk went~~~ cause in my poking around I can use that to boot into homebrew as well~~~
I keep using disk but it's a microSD card~~ lol
edit: I am SO CLOSE~~~~ BUT DON'T HAVE A SOFTMODndsDED WII
T_T;;;
it sounds like I can't just MAKE the save myself~~~ boooo as I said tho I don't have any of the games anyway on me nor a wii

I really am considering getting some form of playstation console as my next retro console. I just don't know which one to get. It seems like they aren't like the cartridge based consoles where all you need in order to play the full library is a simple plug 'n play everdrive. Even the Wii seems simple by comparison since all you need is to soft mod it and get a USB stick to play Gamecube and Wii backups.
I kind of want to get a PS3 because it had some decent games on it and it still played PS1 and PS2 games, but only if you get an original model which are apparently prone to breaking, and I have no idea how to make it play ISOs, it also doesn't se native hardware for PS2. Also I'd rather play my PS1 and PS2 games on a CRT with a wired controller.
Kinda want to get PS2 because it's the best selling console of all time, still plays PS1, and has a huge library, but I can't seem to find any reliable information about weather any means of modding also allow it to play PS1 games.
I wouldn't mind a PS1, but it would be a bummer to not be able to play PS2 as well, and PSIO doesn't seem that simple.
So like idk what to do here.

Look, if you want to hate the Switch 2 and the pricing and info around it, fine, be my guest. At least be correct about the reasons you hate it, I'm fucking BEGGING you.
First off, why are the games more expensive now? Because they aren't using optical media formats like the Xbox and Playstation. The games need to fit in flash memory like what you have on your phones, and, wouldn't you know it, phones with different storage sizes cost different prices. There's different cards for different storage spaces available for devs to put their games on and, if a game is larger, it needs more space, and more needed space means it'll be more expensive.
This shit has been a fact since the dawn of time. It's why, way back in the 16bit days, some games were a lot more expensive than others since they needed more space to store everything. Another reason was that some games had extra chips like some SNES games having the Super FX chip or other games having battery backups to save data which also drove up prices, but those aren't really a thing anymore. If the Switch 2 ran on optical media like the Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, and basically every non-Nintendo console from the PS1/Saturn onward, then we probably wouldn't be seeing this and MK World would be 60, maybe 70 dollars. DK would definitely be 60, though.
Not sure why the fuck Mario Kart World is eighty fucking yoo-ess dollars though. I don't think the cost of a Switch 2 cart for the size it is can be that expensive.
Secondly, the price of the console itself. I dunno, if we're comparing it to the LCD Steam Deck and it apparently has higher specs, including a 1080p 120hz display, I guess it being $50 more than it makes sense? You could argue about the available game library and the fact that it's basically a linux machine swinging things in the Deck's favor and I wouldn't argue against that (in fact, I'd be on your side).
The Switch 2 is still $50 less than the base PS5 and Series X (it might even be comparatively cheaper than the PS5 elsewhere since I remember that getting a price hike in non-US regions a while ago), and I feel like there's probably more worth getting on Switch 2 than those that you can't get on PC, so I dunno. Maybe that says more about the state of everything as a whole.
Could I afford a Switch 2 on launch? I'm in a position financially where I most likely could. Will I? Dude I don't fucking know. If I can get the Switch 2 + MK World bundle for actually $500, maybe. If these stupid fucking Trump Tariffs bump that up to, like, $700+, then holy fuck no, you're out of your goddamned mind. I don't need one that bad. I have enough shit to play. If I can find my way to Canada and could pick one up for a non-tariff'd price then sure, I guess.
Lastly, the game key cards. Holy shit this one in particular is making me mad with the amount of disinfo I'm seeing. This was a thing back for the Switch 1 and now they're just giving it an actual name. You aren't buying a case with a code in it, you're buying an actual card that has a key that tells the eshop that you're allowed to download the game digitally and is then required to be inserted so you can play the game. This goes back to the first point where companies can opt to use this format to make larger games while allowing them to use the smaller storage options which means the cost will be less.
Another benefit to this is that you can actually resell your "game key game" or loan it to someone else, as the card is just saying you're allowed to download and play the game. If, for example, FF7 remake uses this, they can put the 100GB behemoth of a game on the smallest available Switch 2 cart and just have you download the entire thing (while also devoting half of your Switch 2's storage space to a single fucking game), thus saving on costs. You could then give it to a friend when you're done (or sell it to fucking gamestop for a whopping $1.50 of in-store credit) and they could then play it on their console.
The downside to this system, obviously, is that it's reliant on having access to the download servers. If you can't connect to them, then you can't (re-)download the game. You can still play it if you have it downloaded, as the card is just the thing that says you're allowed to play it, you just can't get it on your system. Personally, I'm a physical copy phillip, so I'm not too keen on this practice as I don't like the idea of buying console games digitally. I like to be able to just swap a the media in my console and get right to playing anything in my library without having to deal with storage management. On the other hand, let's be real with ourselves, when these download servers eventually get shut down, Switch 2 emulation will most likely be good, so preservation will prevail in the end.
Also, no, not every fucking Switch 2 game is using this, I have no fucking clue who started that claim, goddamn it's not fucking true please I'm begging you stop spreading that shit.
I don't know, to me, if I want to hate something, I want to at least hate it for reasons that are valid, not reasons that aren't a thing. The prices do feel shit, so, if that's why you hate it, hey, I get it. You have my approval. Fucking hate it to your heart's content. I'll support you.
The box art for Switch 2 games blow so much ass, though. What the fuck were they thinking when they designed these? Especially the "Switch 2 Edition" cases, holy shit, what a fucking crime those are.

(JN anon) It's cool, it's cool. :] I've been there when it comes to responding. *stares at the word doc guilt-tripping me*
Never got to the end of the movie Gamecube title. In my defense, it wasn't exactly a straightforward game. Wasn't a difficult one nor was it long, but you can feel the quality right away. (At least the Retroland level had some charm to it.)
Meanwhile Jimmy is just sitting there with a bowl of popcorn, watching in great amusement and scientific curiosity.
It's so very important to hold onto old media, you could be holding the key to the treasure chest that everyone's looking for.
I've been bookmarking stuff for over 15 years at this point; wished I learned how to do that earlier. Getting harder to remember old sites, everything is just social media now.
(I heard that they usually do backups of the site, but it definitely would be a huge detriment for the library to just fall one day. I'd like to believe they're prepared for that.)
--------------------
I'm fully prepared for there to be nothing said this week or even this year. Things could still be in its early stages that it takes a long while before we get anything [more] tangible. Until then, I'm content just looking out for more random Jimmy occurrences.
I at least still see some praise the visuals for still holding up, despite looking dated. But others using it as a base for "bad animation". Guys, you haven't seen bad animation. :P (I could at least understand not vibing with the artstyle, especially during a time where 3D-animated shows were new and didn't really have the ability to "stylize" itself.)
Ditto, Shrek does not need a "Ugly Sonic" overhaul, that was totally different plain. Tweaks, maybe. Plus, he has always been known to DO pop culture stuff. We're probably passed a certain period of it, but it's still here in different coats of paint. I definitely wait to see it more in motion, before giving any final judgement. (Heck, could be this week also.)
September 2026 does feel like the "safest" bet, it's just 2026 feels like a stacked year.
(In fairness, this seemed to be in development around the time Fairly Odder was and now just started production. As part as I know, the babies will be CGI, everything else is live action. Either way, I expect folks to react accordingly)
Does bring up the question if we're getting fully original scores and songs for the alleged sequel, or a mix of that and covers again. (John A Davis interview from last year had him state that now that he has more free time, he's been doing a little music with his old band. Besides the astrophotography)
----------------------------------------
Sheen's hair is going to look like a mess, but a classy mess. Thanks to Libby.
I've seen some play around with the cowlick Jimmy's adult self got, imitating Jet Fusion a bit. In fact, I read a few fics that has Jimmy cut his hair, be it at least "shortening" his swirl or slicking it back as he gets older.
Or Judy's defining trait. Even Beautiful Gorgeous manage to subverts the 'femme fatale' thing.
Stuff gets left behind in data all the time, how much and what kind REALLY depends on the company. (If that was Nintendo, it would a recall AND a firing.)
But it is true that artists and animators like leaving certain stuff behind, sometimes for their fellow team members. Same with voice actors, there are stuff we're NEVER going to hear. xD
Speaking of search, I found another DNA "behind the scenes" footage on the internet archive. Titled "DNA Productions Jimmy Neutron 2002". (The ending quote is such irony; and depending on this week, incredibly long foreshadowing) I also rediscovered those president's day promos for the party episode with DJ Jimmy with his backwards cap and atom gold chain.
I hope one of these days someone finally uploads the Universal promo of the Jimmy mascot coming in on a jetpack, with the crowd dressed up as the boy genius.
Did you manage to find anything new during your scavenger hunt?
I saw! The news was leaked last year, little after the solo Jimmy Funko. After the Fairly Oddparents one was released; that also got leaked around the same, I imagine the Jimmy set was coming soon.
-------------------------------------
Heh, that's fair. I'm only mention that cause it feels like there's more of a ground for that now than solely doing Power Hour for a throwback. Using a "current show to promote a newer one" type deal. (Should there be plans for it after the movie.) Just one thing that's part of the larger marketing trail.
Oh that one big respond! lol For some reason I got some nostalgia when I watched Retroland level on youtube, even though I didn't play it as a kid it somehow reminded me of Barbie Explorer game in a way, and that was one of those games that I played A LOT so it's imprinted on the back of my head or something lol (that game also has one of the most disappointing endings in the history of video games, so much so that I was convinced that I need to get all the crystals to get a real ending) Jimmy doesn't even get there before they start fighting amongst themselves and when he tries to say something they just yell at him to shut up lol
Oh yes, definitely! I'm kinda sad that most of the stuff nowadays is social media, and they're getting progressively worse and worse for searching some old things that just get buried under search (I'm so sad every time they ask to donate at the top of the site and I don't have any money) -----------------------------
Totally agree! I just like to make some silly speculations, but don't really get my hopes up until we get something more lol
Oh they certainly didn't know what bad animation is to call JN animation bad And some of them are definitely confuse artstyle with animation, because they often talk about artstyle and not about animation lol It's certainly not even close to Sonic (or even Minecraft sheep) lol Maybe some tweaking but, like, I really think that most of the resentment comes from the fact that Shrek himself has become this classic character on changes to which that people are going to feel resentful to regardless of how big or small this changes are lol (but Pinocchio is really peach-shaped now) And yes, people who get made about pop culture references in the teaser (not even the full trailer yet) just forget that the WHOLE 2 film is in itself takes place in one big Hollywood parody with, at the time relevant, references and jokes I just think that people have gotten really resentful of any references, jokes, or modern technology-like present in most media. I like to think that people are just got really nostalgic for "simpler and easier time" against the backdrop of a less happy present, that any reminder of this present causes internal resistance. 2026 really looks like a hell of a show to release movies I agree
Fairly Odder... 🚬... I haven't heard that name in years. This is definitely going to be an interesting ride
Okay, but the music in the sequel is something I don't think about so often, but now I'm really interested! Like, I don't know what I personally would like the most, but still... -----------------------------
Definitely! The one big but classy mess, Libby doesn't let her man just walk around with the results of his poor self-styling attempts lol
Oh yes, Jimmy has a big history of hairstyle changes in fics lol The more pronounced cowlick is something that you can kinda trace back to the show itself (specifically The Tomorrow Boys episode), but otherwise it's kinda fun to watch (mostly read) what hairstyle people get him next lol
(but still it would be so interesting to see or hear this forbidden stuff lol)
Ah, I remember this one! Also, I absolutely love how studio is, in its core, just a few dudes on computers trying to make it work lol The most relatable think ever tbh I didn't know about the President's Day promos! It's so funny how they gave Jimmy an open top cap so it fits his hair lol
I LIVE FOR THE DAY WHEN SOMEONE DROPS JIMMY NEUTRON'S NICKTOON BLAST OPENING VIDEO! That thing is so freakishly funny and I just want to see it in motion! Actually yes! .D But I'm trying to organize my mini-archive a little bit (okay it's just a list of links and pictures, but I'm trying to give them hashtags because I'm already confused myself this the amount lol) And also some links that just looking at me from the top of my browser now lol Soo I just post it in one of the next response or as its own post! -----------------------------
Yes, I totally agree on this regard! It was more of my personal feelings rather than if it's a logical marketing move or not heh

Paper Mario: The Thousand Year-Door (Switch) (Danger Mario) Part 2 ~ The 2x Fire Flower Backup Kill.
So this lets play is a full out Danger Mario run in the Switch remake where I will be pushing the build to the limit to show off the magic that is Danger Mario. This is not a blind run. I love this game to death so sit back as I show you how to get dangerous! This is clearly the remake on Switch, but if you want to see our GameCube Danger Mario use this link. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2AsATFy8VyQ&list=PLYR-uxiTzMXJkun6n8DIAduWwivkz9dDN) Today we beat the Blooper. If our audio ever sounds weird or a bit off, it's likely because of Audacity making the audio sound a bit odd when I removed some louder background noise as we sometimes run a fan during recordings. This comes up way more during the summer so winter recordings are normally not effected and by any harsh background noise. Thank you for being here It really means a lot.
