but there it was, draped over the back of his couch — navy blue, soft-looking, and very obviously worn in. his favorite one. definitely the one I always “borrowed” and conveniently forgot to give back.

i glanced over my shoulder. lando was still in the kitchen, humming to himself and completely unaware of my criminal intentions.

he pulled back first, eyes wide like he couldn’t believe it either. “was that—?”

this is super rambly and something that's been lurking in my mind a while and ive probably mentioned elsewhere, but im thinking about hollow knight again so here you go

i am almost certain that the Knight writes half of the bestiary. im not sure where this lands on the headcanon-theory spectrum, but this is something im almost certain about.

when were first given the hunters journal, he tells us that the text may be difficult to understand, but as we learn our understanding grows. there are, as i interpret it, 3 aspects of the journal: enemy names, initial thoughts, and hunter's thoughts.

the enemy names and initial thoughts are entered into the journal the first time you kill an enemy. these are more general observations and thoughts. sometimes they have little bits of lore, like follies and mistakes ("once a highly intelligent bug, deformed by misuse of soul") but generally theyre simple things

once youve killed enough of an emeny, you decipher the hunter's notes. these are pretty unfiltered, and in some cases, like bosses, not directly about the particular enemy itself. sometimes its his musings on what the infection is. these are very explicitly the hunter's thoughts and opinions, sometimes strategies on how to kill things you have by definition already killed enough of to develop your own strategies. we know theyre from the hunter because own his lil 6-eyes mark on them.

occasionally, some entries will have notes from the hunter, like dream warriors, which are quotes from the bosses themselves. other entries that aren't from the hunter are the grimm troupe notes, which are something like poetic mission statements about the purpose of the troupe, or in NKG's case, a quote from the seer of all people.

now, why do i think that the Knight wrote part of the journal? as established, i know that the hunter wrote the third part of most of the notes, and the knight never writes them. what im suggesting is that the knight named and wrote the first part of the entry for journal.

i first thought of this when coming to the sibling's entry, which the Hunter obviously did not name. his part of the finished entry doesn't even mention them, just the possibility of life existing that far into the kingdom. he says that "If so, I will hunt it." no mention of succeeding in that goal or even finding any other shades throughout hallownest.

the other entry that kinda stands out is, of course, hornet's. the first observation just states that shes a protector, who wields a needle and thread. the hunter's aspect refers to her weapon as a "flying stinger" and I'm not entirely certain if that is the hunter making a mistake about hornet's weapon or him being poetic, as he sometimes is. either way the discrepancy caught my eye

last one ill mention explicitly is the collector, which hunters note says "I've never seen it clearly so I have no idea what type of creature it is." which, to me, proves that the Knight has to have been the one to write the first half of the notes, which talk about the Collector preserving grubs and living in its tower.

something could be said about the knight only writing entries for enemies the hunter has never seen, but i think the tone of voice in the writing between each part is so different, with the first half being short sentences that summarize how the enemy attacks, its anatomy, or its place in the hierarchy of hallownest, whereas the hunter has longer sentences and talks about himself or his own relationship to the enemy (generally how he prefers to eat them).

all of this to say that i think were really missing out on a possible characterization of the Knight in the hunter's journal. this lil guy named the loodle. and the hwurmp. and the boofly. it calls the mossy vagabonds lazy, and the pilflips odd creatures. it calls ogrim gallant, and seems annoyed by zote. it also seems to notice a lot of the hierarchy in hallownest (like maggots and all the deepnest and hive entries). and it seems pretty well read, which i think is pretty neat. there just seems to be a lot there.

I've been reading your recent posts with interest as I've noticed a prevailing trend in certain areas of the manosphere I mistakenly stumble into when I should really be going outside and being human...

There's a trend to hector men into rejecting porn (amongst other degenerate activities) and to join 'men's groups', often referred to as 'wolfpacks', to put their energies into fitness, strength, working on their testerone levels, wearing uniforms, marching together, unifying and ideally getting into fights with anyone they- or rather their 'betters'- deem as lesser (you can figure out who, I'm sure)... oh, and winning those fights, that's always talked about as if it's inevitable

They seem to prey on young men feeling messy/shameful about their porn use and then turning them into malleable proud little fascists... sorry, wolves... who enjoy finding excuses to physically manhandle and abuse non-conformists and outliers (of whatever gender)... not that this is sexual, you understand, it's about imposing order and reinforcing 'our values' through hands on force

Might is right, perceived weakness needs crushing out of existence... in part, it seems, because recreational images of dicks and cunts and arseholes and pro-creative consensual sex are deemed obscene, weakening, unmasculine and wrong

seeing men getting into stuff like this in worryingly large numbers is one of the things that honestly makes it very clear to me that women have an established movement that is critical of society’s gender norms, while men dont. im not saying misogyny is over or that women have some huge privilege here. its just very clear that a larger proportion of women..have some degree of critical thought about what we should value outside of how society perceives us. we have tangibly changed a lot for ourselves over the last 100 years. we know the standard is not fixed. its not perfect, many women are still falling down fascist pipelines, and there are strains of feminism that i think are VERY regressive. but we are at least familiar with the fact that our roles have changed.

but the men..oof a lot of them really do not know how to separate their self worth from how others perceive their masculinity. i dont think they even really know that those are two different things. and ive posted about it before but “masculinity” is a deliberately hazy and moving target. nobody can really define it. but they are THRASHING in desperation to achieve it. ultimately i dont think men as a group have ever really been well equipped to deal with insecurity, we are just now in an era of panopticon level social media use and self obsession. none of us should be thinking about ourselves this much honestly.

something that fascinates me as an outsider is how much this standard of masculinity seems like..not really linked to adulthood? none of these dudes want to be well adjusted adults with any degree of emotional maturity or tangible self sufficiency. they dont want to stop being little boys. they want to just uh. not be women, i guess. they consider it manly to never have to do general adult life maintenance stuff like cooking and cleaning. peak masculinity is when you dont know how to work a washing machine so a woman does it for you. remarkably infantilising of themselves actually. and when all this results in no improvement in self esteem AND women are repulsed by the way they’re acting like children..they double down? they really seem to believe in some sort of nobility of suffering. as if once they’ve hit rock bottom of insecurity and loneliness they’ll loop back around and finally be rewarded. and when that inevitably doesnt happen then its obviously the fault of whatever scapegoat minority they’ve latched onto hating.

My commentary of Starlight Express's Wembley's costume choices (long rant)

Note: This rant is SUPER SUBJECTIVE. 100% my opinion, it's totally okay to disagree and tell why do you disagree with me, it is just something i wanted to share

I've been liking Starlight Express for quite some time, I found out the Bochum version before the Wembley one, and obviously I notice how DIFFERENT they are visually. Personally, i think there's nothing bad about the music, I think the musical numbers for both version have its very own charm!!

I don't know much about musicals in general, but Starlight Express gotta be the most stand out musical out there when it comes to costumes ive seen so far, the idea of personifying locomotives and their coaches are really interesting and i think they execute it really good!! (or maybe im just a railfan)

tho the same can't be said with the Wembley version,,

The Bochum/pre-2024 version ACTUALLY looks like Locomotives and coaches. You can tell Rusty is supposed to be a steam train, Greaseball is the Macho antagonist diesel engine, and so on.

I just feel like you wouldn't be able to tell what locomotive/coaches they are supposed to be in the Wembley version without them getting introduced

The wembley one feels more like modern spacesuits, rather than armor of metal

tbh there are some that are not super clear on both version, like Pearl, like i didnt know she was supposed to be a first class passenger car until i watched them slime tutorials.

They also removed the iconic locomotive-looking helmet and changed it to normal helmets in the race which also got me,,, 💔

the helmets is what makes it feels like A TRAIN RACE! not only that, it looks really unique!! i dont know why they removed it </3 maybe its better to breath on a normal helmet? i guess i can understand it, but it's really just a bummer, i think the locomotive helmet is what completes the whole personified-train look.

I think my biggest ick about this whole costume thing is the changes they made with Greaseball, he(or she, for the wembley version) is my favorite character of this musical, and i just- really, don't like her costume in Wembley version. I dont care about the fact you turned Greaseball into a woman character #lesbiansareawesome it just feels like a total downgrade where Male greaseball have all that machine detail in his costume while the Female Greaseball lookin more like a space soldier.

Tho i think it's worth to mention despite that all, there are some characers that nailed their looks in both version, like Dinah and Electra, they do resemble what they are supposed to be (the checkered pattern for Dinah and the futuristic look for Electra)

I think that is all i can say (for now). I just think that StEx 2024/Wembley doesn't feel like a train musical as much as the Bochum version would.

Or maybe I'm just being a closeted foamer finding out my fav UP character doesnt resembled UP diesel anymore

That being said, I do not dislike StEx 2024, i've seen someone said "enjoy StEx 2024 as it's own musical rather than a remaster version" and i think i agree with that, Wembley version has it's very own charm that makes it awesome, It's attention to details and it's performance are rather just as cool and maybe better than the old ones. My only problem i have with it is, again, costumes.

ohhh i love thinking about the spetsnaz dynamics. Maybe too much. Im writing this in google docs like its a dissertation. BUT theres like 5 ways to think about this either with my brain or with my dick im going to use my brain first. AKA from a minimalshipping pov:

this is something ive said a bunch of times but i rly do think they get along very well. EVEN nikto-minotaur which is strained bc there is a clash of personalities. I wont get into like introvert vs extrovert nikto bc nikto is a special case every interaction with him is like on a day by day basis affected by his mood and just how hes feeling about someone/social interaction in general that week. his competitive nature + his toxic masculinity which was made worse by his torture especially makes minotaur like a target for him a little bit (as ive said in this post). minotaur rly is like a mirror that can make nikto really uncomfortable. And nikto makes Minotaur uncomfortable (as said here) bc he really understands nikto is struggling and he sees it but its a lot to put on someone. + just the chaotic and unpredictable nature of it is lowkey scary to maxim. i think overall their relationship is strained, not close, but also not actively hostile. Minotaur strikes me as someone who is very compassionate and emotionally pretty competent (not perfect but better than nikto for sure) who does his best to stay out of niktos way. They could easily commiserate about suffering from alcoholism but it would be the most base level acknowledgement of them both facing similar issues with drinking to cope with sadness (i imagine that while minotaur never pries in nikto harming himself he would speak up about nikto drinking. He knows what a slippery slope relapse can be (pragmatic as well bc a pissed off drunk nikto would not be any fun.)).

Rodion would fucking love minotaur though.. Hes fun and hes got a LOT of stories hes got cute kids hes very openmindedd he really does NOT judge (is nikto jealous? yes) is bale jealous? Yknow it does sort of suck to see your twin be the blossoming flower everyone flocks to. And this would be something hes felt since they were young (shameless plug) buuuttt. Bale has a presence in spetsnaz hes got a story to him and people Do really like him. So as an adult bale is very confident in his job and who he is so while theres some underlying tension there, overall the jealousy is very minimal. Also. Obviously. Theyve had some drama.

Minotaur (obviously, as he feels responsible) Really took it hard that bale “died.” i always wonder how this occurred to him. Like if he feels guilty bc it was his idea to join the military, or if it was some miscommunication during the mission which got bale hurt, Or the most dramatic and rly my favorite option: that it was some friendly fire that got bale downed. And when did he leave? Was he told bale wasnt moving and had died and he ran? Did they have to leave bale and the strain of that made him run? He didnt know bale was alive for 10 years he hid from his family for 10 years. That is some extreme trauma to go through and then find out the thing you were beating yourself up over wasnt even true. And bale has spent the past 10 years regaining his ability to walk + existing outside of what gives him the most confidence. All with his brother missing ! im sure theres some mannerisms and thought processes that they didnt see in the other before that they see now. But theyre twins. Twins r weird and insanely close. Their relationship is maturing into a beautifuw brotherhood.

And speaking of brotherhood. bale and nikto have a lot of respect for each other: theyve both been thru periods of recovery for massive injuries, theyre very skilled, & neither one of them are big on talking. I feel like they probably had a very short adjustment period of working with each other bc they just sort of clicked. Bale is like not scared of nikto at all (BUT HE IS AWARE HE CAN BE A DANGER). he can read his warning signs, he doesn't get in his way arbitrarily, and they have rly similar senses of humor. I think it helps as well that nikto doesnt see him as a threat bc while i do figure bale is more of the leader of spets on paper in the field, hes not like diehard intense about it he listens to ideas hes flexible uhh and he trusts niktos judgement. Any of nikto’s Weird Shit is just Nikto’s shit and bale doesnt gaf and nikto likes that. I DO ALSO THINK.. Bale knows the most about nikto’s past like hes been told things by kamarov that are important to know. And nikto likes that he never holds any of that against him and doesnt try to spread it. Hes a very respectful man so nikto respects him.

And it is a bit of like.. Like nikto isnt going to respect minotaur bc even tho hes a very large, skilled, grown man hes also not like hypermacho which nikto would just see as weakness. Whereas bale is very much A Guy like hes just a dude. AND RODION.. Rodion is a babbyy bro thats a baby on the field.. None of them Are babying him (well. Minotaur might a little bit. Hes lowkey motherly imo) but they are all very aware hes like. New to this more serious side of combat. And hes the medic ! he has field medic training ! that shit is stressful ! but he handles it and hes very excited for everything and driven. they literally would all love rodion.. Truly the sunshine of the group. Him and minotaur would click like nikto and bale click. they would hype each other up soo much they would have so much fun. AND BALE ?? rodion would be so excited to be working with bale. When he meets bale and bale is genuinely a cool guy, Actually straight up a cool guy, he would become even more enamored with him. Star struck for a long time before they become real friends where rodion doesnt put him on a pedestal.

And of course……. Nikto to rodion.. Like minotaur, rodion would initially be scared of nikto. Rodion really isnt small hes like 5’10 decently muscled but nikto is like fucking huge.. And he just Looks mean and he Would look meanly at rodion at the start like rodion is hyper. He talks a lot. Their first meeting (esp w how he would instantly get along super well with minotaur) nikto just thinks of him as a smaller, younger minotaur he would not be interested. AND hes a baby nikto doesnt want to be a fucking babysitter.. But rodion is very smart and much more laid back than he lets on he can really calm himself down to match nikto’s level. Little bit of a social chameleon bc hes a very charming guy. Rodion like. He Likes to be Liked. Its important to him to be fun and likeable. So he will act accordingly around nikto he’ll quickly learn his body language and how to read his expressions. I think even if they didnt fuck rodion would earn nikto’s respect and he would stop being scared of him relatively quickly.

But yknow. I want them to fuck. So. Uh rodion changing his energy level to match nikto would sort of like signal to nikto that he can hit. Genuinely that’s the entire crux of what gets them started. Rodion is smaller than him, more submissive socially than him, cute, womanly (in the eyes of a misogynist); nikto wants to fuck him. Its like dudes who think cashiers are hitting on them bc they smiled at him. Hes LUCKY that he also happens to be rodions type. Rodion likes a challenge and nikto is a CHALLENGGEEE. Nikto is so resistant and rodion is so hardheaded its the perfect recipe for a tumultuous relationship which makes it so rewarding for rodion to rein it in.

U might think like. Well. he likes bale. Bale is normal. It would be easier to fuck and try to date bale and it would but again rodion likes a challenge. Bale is just like.. Too casual about it all. + the element of hero worship i think changes how rodion feels about it like he just expects a bit of fun out of bale a little extra to their friendship and thats exactly what he gets. And it Is a lot of fun bale’s a good fuck and so is rodion they have good times. It just doesnt have the same fun drama as nikto… But. it would also be easy for them to treat fucking rodion as a competition which i dont think rodion would like bc its a bit disrespectful to him as a person. Like hes not a prize. And he doesn’t think of them as the same. I need 2 explore this in a fic its why i want to write some bale/rodion/nikto.

And minotaur, in the middle of all of this, is just worried for rodion overall. I Do Think he would be surprised bale gets involved at all bc its a very rocky situation between nr and it seems like more drama than bale would enjoy. But it is a little bit of bale’s own sense of dominance peeking thru like he just cant help it its a dude thing an alpha dog thing.. That minotaur just doesnt get into bc he has confidence in himself. And its kind of scary to minotaur that rodion gets in the middle of it. Its kind of scary to him that if nikto has a meltdown of some sort rodion will probably be the closest to him physically and could easily take the brunt of an attack that he rly wouldnt be ready for. Nikto genuinely trying to hurt rodion would be really bad. Hes very brutal. And minotaur keeps that in mind. But yknow so does bale he likes to keep an eye on it. Might as well get his dick sucked too. Maybe bent over or bend rodion over at the same time.

And also why i wanted to write more for beg! It kind of got away from me and its a lot to express. As seen in this probably very confusing ummmm 1,800+ word answer to an ask on tumblr dot com. So ive been think of after nrc cus i saw abunch of cute fanart of azul and floyd (weirdly not much of jade) and i started thinking of what my interpretation of after nrc would be and here are my thoughts

This includes abunch if my own headcanons but i try to stay close to the actual game and my hcs are based off of ingame quotes and implications

Jade 100% is gonna be the twin to take over the family business. I think jade and floyd would have equal power but floyds not gonna help unless he feels like it leading jade to do most of the work. Im my version of the coral sea the leech family owns the largest territory in the deep sea area so most days would be doing daily care for it and bossing people. I do think he would work extremely close to azul but that will be talked apon in azuls bit

Floyd is floyd. He does what he wants and goes where he wants. He helps jade then he gets bored and annoys azul. He disappears for a week and hes traveled the world in that time span and learned how to do the cha cha slide. He is literally floyd he can do and be whatever he wants though usually thats around azul cus azul is azul

I love mafia aus with octivenelle they are so good so yummy i eat that shit up, but in trying to keep this more ingame logical based and not completely biased (its still heavily biased) i dont think after book 3 azul would make a mafia. There is a quiet but still present shift in how azul handles business before and after book 3. We literally see him tear his own contracts in glomas and while yes he is very stingy and smart and conniving, he is not like how he once was.

This might be silly but its my favorite idea and makes me giggle and kick me feet alot. I like the idea of azul just buying an island and making his own tourism town from the ground up. There is a mostro lounge x his moms restaurant collab there, a classic tourism dock, a club owned by the leech family, and those cool shop towns. I imagine there would be shady back deals (hed build it in the leech family’s territory) but i think the general idea of it is more genuine with a bonus of fish mafia black market if it should so be. Idk i like the idea of him making something that ties humanity (the thing he clings to since its probably still a bitch hard for him to truly be comfortable in his mer form) with his merside (something he loves but was ruined for him because of the bullying). Maybe its cheesy but i really like the idea of it

Like i said the island would be build in the leech territory. I dont think they are gonna split up, i dont think im being delusional because i hold them all close to heart no i think they are all oblivious liars, they can not fool me with the “well drop him so fast” shit if that was the case they would have dropped him when he overblotted or threw his tantrum or during his dream. The twins are not the type of people to give three chances to someone azul is just built different in their eyes and i think they would still stew and plan together cus you know azul cares for them and wants them to stay. You heard the “floyd jade! You came back to me” these are some of the only people to give him a chance and show him affection (even if they 100% made him worse) they are sticking together.

In my other post i mentioned how i think the leech family business would be about giving into your desires based on how the twins both act, i think they would run a casino and or club on the island. Its a way to siphon money in their pockets, pour unfortunate souls who just need a bit more money to azul (who would still do contracts obviously just not as crazily impossible to win against as before) and entertainment for them. I think a successful tourist island would kinda be like a flex on the other territories because not that many have proper human connections. Its a power boost and the start of potential more leech family properties in the future if it takes off well.

Bonus round is my oc veeyuu (im prob changing the name but it makes me laugh which is why i havent yet). They would continue to stay by azuls side. Even with the contract being destroyed back in book three and veeyuus debt to the ashengrottos being paid off, they wouldnt want to leave him. I think they would work on the island with the more brighter peaceful side of things, helping shop owners, bringing in tourists, maybe even making their own crafts and pastries to sell though they would be bad at the money aspect of owning a business. They give azul all of the information he needs from around the island and doesnt mind getting their hands dirty again but i think veeyuu enjoys finally being at peace

These are just my thoughts from today cus it’s become my obsession immediately. I need to rework it and rethink it and make sure its accurate but thats my take and i want to draw them how I think they would look in 10 years to cus it makes me happy and i think jade would go a bit more punk and vee would have a cute hat and floyd would have tattoos and azul would have a more peaceful face. No more tightened eyebrows (he has them when floyd comes back from his trips)

it had been a while since you really got out of bed. the only time you ever really left your bed was to get food, and water. and even with that, your dishes and water bottles began to pile up on your nightstand. you hadn’t taken care of yourself well either, barely showering, barely brushing your teeth. you just had no motivation to do anything.

all you wanted to do was lie there in bed, and rot away from the world. you had been feeling awful for so long, but this was probably the worst it had gotten in a while. you felt useless, tired, and overall just terrible.

obviously, this drastic change in behavior had caught the attention of your partner, sloan. they had become extremely worried about you, especially cause even they weren’t able to get you out of bed much, nor get you to take care of yourself. one day, they opened the door to your bedroom slightly, checking in on you.

“baby..? you doing okay?” they said, eventually allowing themselves in and walking towards your bed.

“…i’m fine sloan, don’t worry about me, okay?” you muttered out from under the covers, wrapping them tightly around you. you didn’t want your partner to worry about you, but you just couldn’t do it. you couldn’t do anything right now. they frowned, knowing that this wasn’t okay. knowing that YOU weren’t okay.

they crawled into your bed from the other side, sitting next to you as they rubbed their hand on your back gently.

“listen, (y/n).. i’m- i’m really not good with saying anything motivating, or moving at all.. but, seeing you like this… it kills me, you know? you mean so much to me. i know how hard this is for you, and i wanna help you so bad.. but i need you to let me… please.” sloans voice broke as they finished talking, gripping onto the covers over your body. they tried to hold back any tears they had. they didn’t want you thinking you had to comfort them right now. your comfort was what was most important to them.

you lifted the covers from your form, sitting up to finally face your partner. tears had welled up in your eyes, your hair disheveled after not having cared for it in a long while. “i’m.. i’m sorry.” you whimpered out, tears falling down your cheeks as you helplessly tried to wipe them away.

sloan immediately scooped you into their lap, keeping you close and warm. “shhh, don’t say you’re sorry, please… its okay, amor, shhh..” they kissed your face gently, wiping your tears away with their thumb.

you both sat there for a while, they let you cry your heart out. something you’ve needed to do for a while now.

after what felt like forever, you lifted yourself away from sloan’s chest, wiping your eyes. they had began to look pink and puffy after all the crying you had done. sloan cupped the side of your face with their hand, gently rubbing your cheek with their thumb.

“lets get out of here for a bit, yeah..? i’ll get you washed up.” they said, as they scooped you up. sliding out of the bed, they walked through your bedroom door and into the bathroom. gently, they sat you on the rim of the sink, placing a gentle kiss on your forehead. they began to rapidly kiss you on every inch of your face, making you giggle. “hehehe! slooooann, stopp!” you laughed out. “theres my happy baby! god, i missed that smile.” they smiled back at you, their adorable chipped tooth showing. a pink blush painted your face, you missed how happy they made you feel.

Headcanon: Chilchuck and his Bad Takes on Literature

i think chilchuck would be like my mom in the sense that he wouldnt like sad stories. dont get me wrong, cautionary tales? absolutely fine. they serve a purpose to him which is to tell people "dont be an idiot and do this or else something bad will happen"

generally sad or angsty stories though? no point to him, and in his perspective its really confusing how people just read things that make them sad. like whats the use of reading something if its just gonna make you sad. whats the lesson? its not even real so it doesnt help anyone.

whats the point in making yourself cry when you could just avoid that entirely by not reading it at all?

but the one of the biggest reasons why sad stories exist is to let you release all the built up grief in you. to send you something to let out all your emotions in a healthy way. catharsis. empathy.

even when i dont relate to the tragic experiences in some stories, several ones ive read have lead me to realize that im in a bad situation or that im following in the footsteps of the character suffering. its like a wake up call.

and making yourself cry isnt inherently a bad thing. if crying allows you to let go of building pressure and tension in you then thats good!

but chil wouldnt see that. of course he wouldnt, hes avoidant of most situations that would allow him to release emotion, and fearful of letting his mature (read: repressed) persona slip.

hes someone that runs away to quick comforts and distractions at the earliest sign of issue. hes already been in too many horrifying situations, dealing with another is a pain. and he knows denying everything and refusing to look at the situation doesnt help, but it definitely provides a quick and easy happiness in the comfort of ignorance.

because of this, reading something made to make one empathize with and confront these bad emotions is defeating the point of his cowering. if he faces his issues, even if only through the perspective of a story, he'd have to deal with acknowledging that things are bad and need fixing, and he'd feel terrible and guilty in the moment - which of course is the worst thing that could happen to a person (his thought, not mine).

which is why i find the concept of him being/becoming a tragedy himself at the same time as this headcanon soooo interesting. imagine the irony of him bashing on the protagonists of tragic stories for acting on emotion and impulse rather than logic, when he himself has fallen victim to irrational thinking while in grief.

cause... thats what people do when they grieve. they lash out, make bad decisions, ruin themselves, ruin others.

for a tragedy to be prevented, the protagonists would have to change fundamental parts of themselves, and act perfectly rational when under extreme stress. and chilchuck holds himself to these kinds of unrealistic standards because he unwittingly believes he can handle it all.

he cant, obviously. we see it for ourselves in his relationship with his wife. they were doomed from the beginning by chils already-established avoidance and lack of emotional vulnerabiltiy (and whatever else his wife had going on).

this is all just to say that if you told him about orpheus and eurydice, he'd probably be one of those idiots trying to point out the "plot hole" that he couldve "just not looked back" and "just trusted her"

i dont understand. whats the point in reading tragedies? the protagonist is stupid, anyways. why would you take bitter medicine? why subject yourself to that?

the inevitable nimona centaur au baybeeee

this au is mostly film-based, but theres some comic references in there too

nimona is not a shapeshifter and gloreth is not a legendary figure, theyre both centuar foals. gloreth is a noble, ambrosius' younger cousin - their family is still incredibly high up in this setting, possibly having direct ties to royalty. nimona, on the other hand, has been on and off the streets since she was six due to constantly running away from orphanages. shes not originally from the kingdom, but at six she was the only survivor of a raid on a nearby villiage. shes eventually found by knights from the kingdom. she doesnt want to go with them but its not that hard for them to catch a young foal. they dont ask if shes got surviving relatives elsewhere or even give her a chance to grab anything other than the mandolin she was already carrying, they just carry her back to the kingdom and put her in an orphanage. years later, she still considers that event a kidnapping.

im not quite sure how nimona and gloreth meet, but theyre best friends for a good few years. it's sort of an escape for gloreth from uptight nobility. but shes still taking in everything she's being told about how knighthood is the best and most noble thing you can do and that the kingdom is the best place, so as nimona becomes more vocally anti-establishmet things start to get tense between them.

now, to those knights. ballister and ambrosius are knighted when nimona and gloreth are less than ten, and while the director isnt happy about the first commoner knight its not quite enough for regicide this time. knights are expected to take a few years after graduation to gain experience before taking on and training a squire, and in ballister's case those few years are very important.

with no regicide conspiracy to throw things off, the queen's announcement that anyone will be able to sign up for knight training is put into practice. and with orphanages in the kingdom being overcrowded and underfunded, staff quickly begin encouraging foals in the system to go into the institute. with each passing year its pushed more and more and the idea that its optional shrinks down, until the year ballister decides hes ready to take on a squire when its reached the point that foals are simply sent sent from the orphanages without being given the choice. the arrangement is something of an open secret.

nimona is vocally against knighthood and the kingdom in general, but at maybe 14 is sent to the institute. her finding out that this is going to happen is the breaking point for her and gloreth, because gloreth still thinks knighthood is an honour and doesn't sympathise with her anger.

not long into nimona being at the institute, foals are selected to be paired with knights that are taking squires that year. some are pre-arranged, like gloreth being apprenticed to her cousin ambrosius, and some are institute-assigned. the director, in an attempt to harm ballister's reputation, deliberately puts him with a 'problem foal' - nimona. with his zero kid experience, ballister is in no way prepared to wrangle her.

at this point, theres no bad blood between ballister and ambrosius, and they have no idea of their squires' history until they have them sparr during training and it goes terribly. but with how closely they work they decide the fillies need to get over their argument and force them together a lot, even arranging for them to be roommates. a lot of the time this leads to nimona feeling ganged up on, since obviously the other three are all quite pro-knighthood.

but anyway, thats the setup. plot is something im still brainstorming - including how ballister loses his arm - but ive got a couple thoughts :)

i feel really selfish saying this, but i really wish there were more general trans movies with characters who aren't trans women. like, i'm really glad that they're there and there should be more, but on the other hand, its kinda all thats there? obviously there ARE movies like this, but 9 times out of 10 when there's a recommendation to go see a trans movie, its either a trans women or a character heavily implied to be a trans women there. and i'm really glad those movies are there! but i'd just wish there could be a big discussion about movie and there would be a trans man or a nonbinary person representing the community.

I think what you're forgetting, anon, is that while trans women are depicted badly in a lot of places - less so over the years, people mainly reference things from the previous century - there's still way more positive transfem rep than there is of anything for transmascs, and that doesn't mean transfems have it better, but as always hyper-visibility and invisibility are two sides of the same coin. It's okay for invisibility to not feel good. There should indeed be more media about transmascs.

Now I'm finally doing that. This year I made my first ever hand sewn cosplay. There are definitely mistakes, but it's pretty sturdy and I can't express the sheer sense of pride I got from wearing something I sewed myself. There are some things I wanna tweak on it, like I must have made a mistake when measuring the waistband because it's WAY too thick. But it's functional, it's accurate, and it even has a zipper! It was expensive because of course for my first ever sewing project I picked a character with a pleated skirt (you need 3x your waist in fabric and im fat which definitely adds up lmao, plus i got the fabric custom printed from a print-on-demand company) and the pleats took forever to do. But I'm so so so proud of it. I'm looking into armor crafting with EVA foam for a future cosplay, and it's intimidating but I'm really excited at the idea of working with it. I've seen so many amazing armor sets and props made with EVA foam and I can't wait to make my own. I'm thinking I'm gonna cosplay Maple from BOFURI: I Don't Want to Get Hurt, So I'll Max Out My Defense.. Then again, that might be jumping off straight into the deep end again like I did for the last cosplay since she has a GIANT shield. At least I'm sticking to her main outfit, not the one with giant angel wings lmao. I may have watched several videos on wing crafting but even I'm not brazen (or stupid) enough to try making those for only my second real cosplay lmao. My opinions are a lot more nuanced than most takes on 'shipcourse' that ive seen, but I've gathered that im generally included when people say 'proshippers dni' based on how people define it in said dnis. I'm not gonna purposefully interact with someone who obviously doesn't want me there. But that makes it frustratingly difficult to find people to follow who also believe in things like transandrophobia. It happens all too often that I find someone with great takes and go to follow them, then see that they have a dni that includes me. It especially sucks when all the other things in the dni are things like "racist" and "transphobic". I'm sorry, but I just can't see having a nuanced opinion on fiction as being on the same level as being a bigot towards others. It sucks to be put on the same level as actively hateful people because I have concerns about the normalization of censorship. I believe that when you open the doors to censoring media because of morals, you set the groundwork for things like the Hays Code. Censorship has always been disproportionately used to silence marginalized groups. I just can't get behind that, no matter how 'noble' the intentions behind it might be.

If it helps any, I'm also what one would call a pro-shipper but find the word itself beneath my dignity because I think it's ridiculous it's an argument in the first place.

I should warn you tho, I am not the best at telling a story, and im worse at explaining one. However I also want to share this AU as its been something ive been working on for 8+ years, and while it is mostly a self indulgent Monster AU, full of stereotypical troupes and cliches, its also very important to me. I made this AU when I was not in a good place mentally and was using it as a way to cope with and express the feelings I was having at the time. Its changed a lot and truth be told its actually 2 story lines that combine to become 1 down the line. But for the sake of this ask, I will focus on talking about the Reconstruct backstory.

Anyway if youre still interested in what the story is about, then please continue reading! I will do my best to try not to babble too much but.. its going to happen anyway 😅

TW: So I should probably start off with mentioning that this AU does contain emotional and physical abuse, manipulation, and mention of body mutilation. Not that im going to go into the details of that here but thats just me covering my own ass :v At the point the story is at now, Gladion is much older than he is in the games/manga/anime. His actual age isnt fully known as the theme with this AU deals with time and interdimensional travel, so its hard to keep track of, but he appears to be in his early 20s. But for all intents and purposes he is an adult.

✨The story ✨ So the Reconstruct AU is something of a "bad ending" storyline.

So this story follows that of the canon for the beginning. Mohn disappeared when he fell through an Ultra Space worm hole that was opened, and his whereabouts are unknown. Lusamine still went into her crazy and Ultra Beast obsessed self, only concerned with youth, beauty, and keeping things as under her control as much as she can. Gladion steals TYPE:NULL and Lillie taking Nebby and running away. Lillie going to live with Kukui and Gladion joining Team Skull as their enforcer.

In this timeline, Lusamine, in her desperate need to have control of everything around her, decides that she will create her "perfect world" where she will surround herself with all of the things that she loves. A place where everything will be kept exactly the way she wants them, preserved for all of time, and where she wont ever be alone again. However she knows that she can not do this on her own, but knows who can. Someone younger, stronger, and already has knowledge about the UBs and Aether. Now the hard part is getting him to join her, but she has a plan for that.

Lusamine gets in contact with Guzma (as in this story he still "works" for her) and with the help of some choice words, a good sob story, and probably a fat check, she's able to convince him that she has changed and she wants help from him to convince Gladion of these things as well. Being that he and Gladion are so close, and obviously he trusts him so much, it shouldnt be hard for him to talk some sense into him, right? She does an amazing job at getting Guzma on her side, having him think that Gladion is just being a bratty, rebellious, edgy teen. After all, he comes from some nice rich family, could have anything he wants, and yet still chose to ran away, how bad could it have possibly been? Does he even realize how bad some of these kids have it? How badly HE had it?? So generally he thinks that Gladion is just over reacting/being dramatic. He doesnt know how good he's had it, obviously!

Guzma sets up this whole "ambush". He has Gladion come back to the shady house, getting him inside and cornering him in his room, where he is confronted by Lusamine. She puts on this big show of being the sorry mother just wanting her son back, going on about how she's changed and she didnt mean to do all of those horrible things and so on and so on. All she wants is them to be a family again, like they used to be, is that really so much to ask for? Gladion is already seeing right through this, he knows all of this is bs, but he cant seem to get anyone on his side. After all, the members of Team Skull never really liked him anyway and were only going along with it bc Guzma said so. Now with Guzma against him, he has no real back up. He cant fight back and he cant even escape. Despite his stubborn nature, he still cant overcome the hold his mother has on him after all those years. She very much has him between a rock and a hard place. So not having any other option, he is forced to go back home with her.

Once back home, Gladion's life is turned upside down as Lusamine does everything she can to keep him on a short leash. All freedom that he had is now gone, and he is constantly watched and monitored, its suffocating. Much like before, he's told how to dress, how to act, what to eat and how much, he cant even so much as get near a computer or phone without someone questioning him. He cant even bring out any of his pokemon bc Lusamine has deemed most of them "too dangerous" to have out all under the pretense of doing it for his safety. The only pokemon he's able to have around him is his Umbreon, and even then, she's given a electric collar that keeps her within the property of the house, so no chance of her running off in the middle of the night or anything. While Lusamine insists that shes not keeping him there against his will, she assures him that he's allowed to leave whenever he'd like. Tho she also warns him that if he leaves, then Lillie will be taking his place. She will not be left with an empty nest. Truth be told Lillie probably would have been the easier choice between the two, she also knows that Gladion would do anything to keep her safe. So using her as leverage is how she keeps control over Gladion.

One day Lusamine casually brings up about the "Reconstruct Project" to Gladion (keeping its details very vague), mentioning its something he could help her with, as she thinks he would be interested, He shuts it down saying that he wants no part of whatever she's doing. Lusamine doesnt prese the issue, only expressing disappointment that he wont even consider her offer, but she wont force him. Rather she doesnt want to force him as she wants him to join her willingly. (Even if "willingly" means she'll force his hand) She needs him for this Project. Gladion may be stubborn, but she is so much worse.

After their initial conversation, things only got a lot worse. While he had few freedoms since all of this has started, those are gone now. He becomes cut off from his Pokemon, from the outside, he hardly has a moment of peace where he doesnt feel like he's being questioned or ordered to do something. He really is like a prisoner in his own home (well, a place he once called that). His sanity is being chipped away at, and it comes down to 2 options. -He can either join onto this Reconstruct project, whatever it is. Not knowing what fate could await him or what Lusamine as planned, but at least he'd have a chance at having some sense of a life back and limited freedom.. -Or he can live the rest of his life as Lusamine's puppet, having no freedom or will of his own (<-which is also another story of its own). His life will practically be on auto pilot, forever chained to Aether but never having a say in anything.

It takes some time but eventually Gladion does break, and asks to join the Reconstruct Project, even tho he still has no idea what it is, but anything is better than the life he is living now.

Lusamine is absolutely delighted by this news! And almost instantly, life then turns around for Gladion. He finally is given back some freedom, if not more than what he had before. He is able to move around his home without question. He gets to eat more and better than he did before, putting on some much needed muscle. He's even getting a chance to walk around outside and around the property without having some kind of chaperone. Lusamine even invites him to join her at Aether to over see some projects that they are working on as well as helping with pokemon there. She lets him join her in outings in town, taking him to eat and so on. She's essentially love bombing him, and he hesitantly accepts. All the while this is going on, he still does not know what this Reconstruct Project is bc he cant seem to find any information on it, like it almost doesnt even exist. Whenever he asks about it, Lusamine either skirts around the question or tells him that then only thing he should be concerned about is being in his best physical condition as possible. She assures him that it'll all be worth it, and shes going to give him what he's always wanted: To be stronger. But in order to that, he's going to need some "upgrades. None of this does well to ease any concerns or fears he has, but he's already gotten this far, and he doesnt want to risk going to how things were before so.. whatever it is, he's in it for better or worse. Gladion undergoes a very extensive surgery, with about 80% of his body being "Reconstructed" (hence the name) from the ground up. Its some time later that he wakes up from a induced coma and when he does the reality of what has happened to him is made clear. He is no longer human, or rather, not completely. His body a patch worked mess, a terrible jigsaw amalgamation of human and (shiny) Silvally. Lusamine delivered on her promise to make him stronger, even if she left out the finer details of it.. So that is the Reconstruct story line, or the start of it anyway. From here the story follows along with Gladion changing his name to "Reconstruct" as he has convinced himself that who he once was is no longer him. That part of him died long before it got to this point. His job is that of a glorified errand boy and protector of Aether. He mostly travels through Ultra Space and to different worlds/time to gather up UBs for Lusamine so that she can create her "perfect world". He travels through the worm holes with the aid of an altered Dusk Mane Solgaleo who has been fitted with pieces of Necrozma Armor, that acts a lot like NULL's inhibitor helmet. While its an odd life and something he would have never imagined for himself. He is still very much tied to Aether, at least in this way he has some sense of purpose and freedom. Tho in his time of traveling he has seen much, including other versions of himself (Gladion) living out lives that he knows he could never have, being with people that he cared about, knowing that he cant ever go back to how things were. He's very lonely, bitter, and jaded at the world and others. He's closed off, quick to anger, and untrusting of others. His only real reason to keep going despite everything thats happened is bc of Lillie, as knowing that at least this way he can still protect her. He is content enough to live the rest of his life like this. Even if he has to do it alone. Trying not to think about what might happened when he finishes his mission.. but, well, life certainly has a way of surprising you. And that is the story! I admit that I am going to be very surprised to know if anyone actually read all of this, but if you did please know you have my many thanks and my apologies 😅

i haven't been reading "good" manga much recently. i read random yaoi for a laugh or easy entertainment, same with fic, but it's been a while since ive really dug into something. a lot of this has to do with grad school killing my creativity, tbh....

but to answer ur question, i really like naoki urasawa, i think hes written the most "literary" manga out there. everybody knows about monster, but 20th/21st century boys and pluto are also worth checking out. urasawa has the most consistently good body of work ive encountered from a mangaka. like, i would say fullmetal alchemist probably has my vote for manga that remains strong throughout and is just undeniably a classic, but urasawa has so much breadth across his body of work. there's shit in monster and 20th century boys i still think about, and i read them like 13 years ago.

i am keeping up with the summer hikaru died, though the plot is at a bit of a lull and i get the sense the author isn't completely sure what to do with their own success. i absolutely love the concept nonetheless though, and think the first few chapters are great on their own.

a lesser known, cult favourite of mine is homunculus. really really different than most manga you've probably read already. can't say much more than that without spoiling.

i think vagabond is worth checking out, even though the story is probably akin to many things youve already read, and it remains unfinished. same with the climber. not super unique stories or themes, but generally well executed.

my guilty pleasure manga is kuroshitsuji lol. its my opinion that yana toboso is kind of a genius but.isnt even really aware of it bc shes cursed with gooner mentality. the story really really sucks right now and has for the past 2 arcs lol but i could write an entire thesis on my various marxist readings of kuroshitsuji. and im not even joking. it's sooooo stupid but it's fascinating to me bc yana is making this like insane pastiche of victorian literary conventions AND contemporary victorian anachronisms that is honestly really camp and interesting but it's just like. anyways. i would also say oyasumi punpun and blood on the tracks (moreso the beginning bits, it does kinda fall off) are things u might like if you were into the "darker" aspects of berserk (and im not talking the shitty rape scenes, moreso the emotional toxic entanglement of fucked up characters). obviously ya gotta read junji ito too.

i also read saiki k, one punch man, and mob psycho 100 for fun. i think when you read enough of the same thing, eventually you get to the point where all you wanna read is parodies of the genre lol. i read sooooo much manga when i was younger that now its all the same to me, and i just wanna see people make fun of it. that's kinda where im at with manga lately... none of the new stuff interests me unless it's self reflective satire of its own principles. this is why i like mr robot too btw. it functions as satire of both online political movements and their material impotence, and how they are shaped by 90s american capitalism-critical media like american psycho, the sopranos, fight club etc that are about protagonists essentially so caught up in themselves their worldviews totally occlude reality. but don't get me going about mr robot or ill go on forever...
