'No, my problem was when I was younger, I didn't think I looked like anybody. I was longing for someone to look like. When I was growing up there wasn't anyone with a black bush of hair, without a button nose and little pink lips like a rosebud.'

remus is being sirius-ified and peter is being remusified.
sirius is being gay stereotype-ified.
james is being mlm fetish-ified, along with remus.
mary, pandora, and lily are being background relationship-ified to keep those fujoshi 15 year olds from having to write a woman... having plot relevance.
nobody in the marauders fandom has ever interacted with an actual teenage boy, aside from poorly written wattpad fanfictions.

Abigail to me, feels like a masc presenting character Yet, when I go to look for a flower dance replacement that makes her wear a tux, that'd fit with her story and character All I get is "sexier" dresses for her. not a single tuxedo and all of the flower dance attires are sexualized. It's.. disheartening for a masc presenting lady at times, because I wanna date a masc presenting Abigail, I don't want her to wear a dress. if I knew how to code, or make stardew mods, I'd do this myself, but for now I can complain about the lack of representation for Abby.

i think i've figured out what was sitting with me wrong about those shitty reviews of ofmd that were getting passed around here yesterday. because i just could not understand the one about how Taika Waititi has "no range," right? it's just not true. Ed is one of the most immediately likeable and complex, three-dimensional characters i've ever seen. Taika Waititi genuinely plays him with such real vulnerability and thoughtfulness, making him into a character who is so understandable and real in all his goofiness and anger and pain and love. i don't know how you could watch the show and come away not loving him.
and i've figured out what saying this guy has "no range" is reminding me of. i'm a substitute teacher, right, and my favorite class to take is middle/high school English language arts. and there's this thing that happens when you teach poetry, when you teach poems that make you feel raw and vulnerable: some of the kids, especially the boys, will laugh. because a lot of kids just haven't got the emotional maturity yet to deal with it, and you kinda have to tease it out, because their instinct is going to be to laugh and say "that's weird" or "that doesn't make sense." this is morally neutral, it doesn't mean these kids are dumb. it's because they're not used to engaging with that kind of art in any earnest way and if you don't learn that, life and culture (especially if you're a boy or a man) often tend to teach you that it's beneath you and things you don't automatically find comfortable are deserving of scorn.
so, all that to say: does Taika Waititi really lack range in his portrayal of Ed? or are you just more accustomed to seeing a character like him, a gay man of color who earnestly engages with questions of masculinity, as a one-note joke, and it makes you uncomfortable when Ed isn't just a joke?

there should be a new wave of abstractism-esque sonas in line with ena and other such things like object heads, (homestuck)trolls, stick figures, and other things that exist as a symbol of a person but are specifically clearly not human people. a furry-esque subculture that exists not to examine the connection between humans and animals but humans and computer-like abstractisms of the human experience. things like pokemon, tomogatchi, webkinz and other "digital" or fake animals would be sort of an in between of these two groups.

I used to have a really hard time bringing up the fact that I graduated from high school a year late without feeling the need to explain why and insisting that it wasn't my fault while simultaneously kicking myself for how much I sounded like I was just making excuses for something I should take responsibility for.
Then I watched Dimension 20's "The Seven" and suddenly I could simply say that I was a super senior.
The first time I heard the phrase "super senior" was in reference to Antiope Jones, a Black girl who had been held back a year after getting kidnapped and imprisoned by members of a fundamentalist cult, and like, girl, same.
So, since then, instead of anxiously spinning out any time I tried to tell a personal high school anecdote, I could just say I was a super senior, and then my brain would auto complete that statement with "like Antiope Jones" and I'd feel good about myself because Antiope Jones Is That Bitch.
That's what the problem had been the whole time. I wasn't worried about how other people would perceive me; I had been struggling with how I perceived myself.
Thanks, Aabria.
#representation matters#especially absolutely batshit and (hopefully) unintentional representation because bitch what the fuck#antiope jones#aabria iyengar#dimension 20 the seven#dimension 20#WARNING: Religious trauma/parental neglect/trauma-induced mental illness beyond this point!#no I'm serious I wasn't joking about the whole identifying with getting kidnapped and imprisoned by fundamentalists thing#shit's fucked; you have been warned#ok so I didn't get kidnapped but I did spend my entire childhood cloistered against my will by my fundamentalist parents#I was home-schooled from grades K-8 and then went to Christian online school from grades 9-11#homeschooling isn't neglectful but my neglectful parents wouldn't have been able to isolate me without it#by grade 11 my mental health had deteriorated so much that I spent most of my time in bed dissociating and stopped doing any schoolwork#my parents correctly assumed the isolation was finally getting to me and enrolled me in a local private Christian school for grade 12#it should have taken me more than a year to complete all my grade 12 classes + a handful of incomplete grade 11 classes & a grade 10 class#but as it turns out I am in fact also That Bitch and did it all in one academic year#I still genuinely thought I was lazy until quarantine showed me that EVERYONE gets fucked up after years of social isolation (wild huh)#Tags! Now with MORE BONUS TRAUMA! (brace yourself haha; Teeth CW)#it's important to me that Antiope is tall because the effects of the isolation and neglect were so pervasive that they stunted my growth#I'm of reasonable height for an adult at first glance (5'3) but I would have been a hell of a lot closer to 6'2 that's for damn sure#if you stare at me for too long I start to look like an animated scale model of a much taller person (because I kinda am lol)#everything about me is teensy except for my absolutely massive teeth#I had to get four extracted because they couldn't all fit#not wisdom teeth just four straight up regular healthy adult teeth had to be extracted due to a painful lack of space for teeth that big#I'm not sure if my teeth are the only thing that grew to normal size or if they're extra big because of some other pituitary fuckery#and yeah being tiny isn't that weird but people have always made a big deal about just how weirdly tiny I am#like kids younger than me used to carry me around like a doll#and now decades later I've learned about Psychosocial Short Stature and it all makes sense haha oop#anyways#told you shit's fucked

A reminder of the hypocrisy of Nolan's Odyssey is the LACK of EVERYTHING GREEK.
Medieval fantasy clothes
A Venetian fortress as an "ancient Greek" palace
Trojan city with Moroccan architecture
Viking ships
It’s wild how no one seems to notice how utterly lacking in Greek identity is. Nolan films in a few Greek locations, slaps the name ,"The Odyssey" on it, and suddenly everyone acts like this is some great representation of Greek culture.
Meanwhile, everything from the costumes to the architecture to the ships looks like a generic medieval fantasy world with zero connection to Mycenaean Greece. And the worst part? People here are praising it just because “it will boost tourism,” as if turning our history into an aesthetic backdrop for another Hollywood film is some huge win. Be for real, how is it a victory if Greek culture is erased in the process?

damian posting again. sorry. i am annoyed by people saying/writing damian as emotionless. that could not be further from the truth. one of his character flaws is that he will sometimes be ruled by his emotions. he’s quick to anger, he’s ESPECIALLY quick to guilt. he’s described as a person who can’t disconnect from his emotions as effectively (not well, because disconnecting from your emotions is not necessarily a good thing) as others. i just don’t get that characterization. he’s an emotional kid, i think that’s an interesting concept. little kid HUGE feelings who grew up in worlds in which concealing and disconnecting your feelings was actively encouraged (this, to me, is both the LOA and the bats), that’s a compelling conflict! the idea can rock both damian and those he’s around, as he grows older and more assured in himself, he can challenge those ideals. and he might not always be right, but challenging the ideals surrounding emotionality is still a worthy story beat in my mind.

y’all don’t understand how much i love the latino jason headcanon. like i know for some ppl it can be problematic, and i totally understand why it could be a problem given jason's background and lore- but my latino ass can't help but love the idea!
where do you guys think he could be from?
i personally think he could be mixed ethnically and racially, maybe willis could be puertorican and catherine dominican, while sheila is still white.
he could still be racially ambiguous, as a lot of latinos can be racially ambiguous. and even tho i headcanon him to be 2nd gen i KNOW he would be fluid in spanish. AND he would try to stay connected to his culture, no matter what.
idk, i love jason sm i kinda want to see myself in him and i love the thought of sharing my culture w him lol
