The Evo games and Evo gear explained

Ok so legacy evolution is.. Definitely not a complete 180° in terms of power system for the legacy universe but it's certainly not based on the magic of the Kami nor does it use the legacy arms.

Instead what it does have is Evo gear.

In which is how the power system works.

Now the evil chest plate and buckle essentially act as the same thing but designated to different parts of the body for instance the buckle is designated to the lower parts such as the legs while the chest plate is designated to the upper body parts such as the head and the arms.

Now why do these two things need to be there and how do they affect those body parts? What do you see the Evo chest plate and the Evo buckle have slots in them that you insert an Evo disk into.

Now here's where things get interesting you see per Evo disc there is a designated animal or machine on them. And depending on where you place those disks you get armor that mimics either that animal or that machine's abilities.

For instance the protagonist Andy lilim predominantly uses the Evo disk tiger and engine. Which manifest armor on his body based on where he inserts the disk.

No you can only place in one disc in either the chest plate or the buckle you cannot place in two. You have to place the second one in the other Evo gear armor piece that wasn't used.

In the protagonists case he typically places the tiger Evo disk into his chest plate and places the engine Evo disk into the buckle.

No I mentioned that the armor pieces related to those evo disks Grand Palace but what do I mean by that? Well it depends on where you place the disk.

Once again for Andy's case since he has the tiger and the engine disks each disc gives a different power based on where they are placed.

So for the tiger disc if he placed it in the chest plate it would give him the ability known as extreme cut in which she can slash with his arms to release a massive cutting wave like that of a tiger claw. But if he placed it in the buckle it would give him the strength of a tiger in his lower body.

For the engine disc if he placed it in the buckle it would give him super speed. But if instead he placed it in the chest plate it would Grant him pyrokinesis.

It's essentially a strategy of mixing and matching when you want certain abilities. Every disc always has two different abilities with only one active depending on which piece of evo gear armor it's in.

And normally you only get a single copy of an EVO disc there is no natural way of getting to tiger disks or two engine disks. You'd have to cheat.

... That's or you have to be an EVO.

I've explained the Evo gear but I haven't explained why it exists. You see in legacy evolution humanity has the ability to evolve however those evolved humans simply refer to as evos can't reproduce. More accurately they can't reproduce to create more evos they can only reproduce to create more humans this is due to their evolutionary mutation causing it to avoid having that mutation spread to the child to ensure that the child is fertile and alive.

Because evos have the ability of using different powers from animals or machines. They can mimic those powers and use them naturally. But to ensure that there is always more evos being brought in the evo games are held as a test to see who is worthy to evolve.

Which is why the Evo gear exists it's a way of helping any people who wish to evolve get used to what's going to happen when they do, it's essentially training wheels.

However that doesn't mean evos don't use Evo gear they don't need it but they can use it, in fact the host of the games has a special evo buckle called the gaze buckle. Which can copy any form of Evo gear previously seen and recorded.

After all the host is allowed to join the games as the final challenge.

However the evo games aren't just simply a test of strength, it's survival of the fittest, which is why the game allows the players to kill their opponents, and it's even encouraged in the games to get rid of your opponents as soon as they are weak to ensure that they can't come back and potentially kill you.

Legacy evolution is a story about becoming an apex predator, and what it means to be in apex predator. And to be one you have to accept that you do need to kill if you want to live.

When self-described “ocean custodian” Boyan Slat took the stage at TED 2025 in Vancouver this week, he showed viewers a reality many of us are already heartbreakingly familiar with: There is a lot of trash in the ocean.

“If we allow current trends to continue, the amount of plastic that’s entering the ocean is actually set to double by 2060,” Slat said in his TED Talk, which will be published online at a later date. 

Plus, once plastic is in the ocean, it accumulates in “giant circular currents” called gyres, which Slat said operate a lot like the drain of the bathtub, meaning that plastic can enter these currents but cannot leave.

That’s how we get enormous build-ups like the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, a giant collection of plastic pollution in the ocean that is roughly twice the size of Texas.

As the founder and CEO of The Ocean Cleanup, Slat’s goal is to return our oceans to their original, clean state before 2040. To accomplish this, two things must be done.

First: Stop more plastic from entering the ocean. Second: Clean up the “legacy” pollution that is already out there and doesn’t go away by itself.

And Slat is well on his way.

When Slat’s first TEDx Talk went viral in 2012, he was able to organize research teams to create the first-ever map of the Great Pacific Garbage Patch. From there, they created a technology to collect plastic from the most garbage-heavy areas in the ocean.

“We imagined a very long, u-shaped barrier … that would be pushed by wind and waves,” Slat explained in his Talk. 

This barrier would act as a funnel to collect garbage and be emptied out for recycling. 

But there was a problem.

“We took it out in the ocean, and deployed it, and it didn’t collect plastic,” Slat said, “which is a pretty important requirement for an ocean cleanup system.”

Soon after, this first system broke into two. But a few days later, his team was already back to the drawing board. 

From here, they added vessels that would tow the system forward, allowing it to sweep a larger area and move more methodically through the water. Mesh attached to the barrier would gather plastic and guide it to a retention area, where it would be extracted and loaded onto a ship for sorting, processing, and recycling. 

It worked. 

“For 60 years, humanity had been putting plastic into the ocean, but from that day onwards, we were also taking it back out again,” Slat said, with a video of the technology in action playing on screen behind him.

To applause, he said: “It’s the most beautiful thing I’ve ever seen, honestly.”

Over the years, Ocean Cleanup has scaled up this cleanup barrier, now measuring almost 2.5 kilometers — or about 1.5 miles — in length. And it cleans up an area of the ocean the size of a football field every five seconds.

The system is designed to be safe for marine life, and once plastic is brought to land, it is recycled into new products, like sunglasses, accessories for electric vehicles, and even Coldplay’s latest vinyl record, according to Slat. 

These products fund the continuation of the cleanup. The next step of the project is to use drones to target areas of the ocean that have the highest plastic concentration. 

In September 2024, Ocean Cleanup predicted the Patch would be cleaned up within 10 years. 

However, on April 8, Slat estimated “that this fleet of systems can clean up the Great Pacific Garbage Patch in as little as five years’ time.”

With ongoing support from MCS, a Netherlands-based Nokia company, Ocean Cleanup can quickly scale its reliable, real-time data and video communication to best target the problem. 

It’s the largest ocean cleanup in history.

But what about the plastic pollution coming into the ocean through rivers across the world? Ocean Cleanup is working on that, too. 

To study plastic pollution in other waterways, Ocean Cleanup attached AI cameras to bridges, measuring the flow of trash in dozens of rivers around the world, creating the first global model to predict where plastic is entering oceans.

“We discovered: Just 1% of the world’s rivers are responsible for about 80% of the plastic entering our oceans,” Slat said.

His team found that coastal cities in middle-income countries were primarily responsible, as people living in these areas have enough wealth to buy things packaged in plastic, but governments can’t afford robust waste management infrastructure. 

Ocean Cleanup now tackles those 1% of rivers to capture the plastic before it reaches oceans.

“It’s not a replacement for the slow but important work that’s being done to fix a broken system upstream,” Slat said. “But we believe that tackling this 1% of rivers provides us with the only way to rapidly close the gap.”

To clean up plastic waste in rivers, Ocean Cleanup has implemented technology called “interceptors,” which include solar-powered trash collectors and mobile systems in eight countries worldwide.

In Guatemala, an interceptor captured 1.4 million kilograms (or over 3 million pounds) of trash in under two hours. Now, this kind of collection happens up to three times a week.

“All of that would have ended up in the sea,” Slat said.

Now, interceptors are being brought to 30 cities around the world, targeting waterways that bring the most trash into our oceans. GPS trackers also mimic the flow of the plastic to help strategically deploy the systems for the most impact.

“We can already stop up to one-third of all the plastic entering our oceans once these are deployed,” Slat said.

And as soon as he finished his Talk on the TED stage, Slat was told that TED’s Audacious Project would be funding the deployment of Ocean Cleanup’s efforts in those 30 cities as part of the organization’s next cohort of grantees. 

While it is unclear how much support Ocean Cleanup will receive from the Audacious Project, Head of TED Chris Anderson told Slat: “We’re inspired. We’re determined in this community to raise the money you need to make that 30-city project happen.”

And Slat himself is determined to clean the oceans for good.

“For humanity to thrive, we need to be optimistic about the future,” Slat said, closing out his Talk.

“Once the oceans are clean again, it can be this example of how, through hard work and ingenuity, we can solve the big problems of our time.”

Cute. But that’s not culture. That’s aesthetics.

And if your worldbuilding is all outfits, dances, and spice blends with vaguely mystical names, your story’s probably going to feel like a cosplay convention held inside a Pinterest board.

Here’s how to fix that—aka: how to build a real, functioning culture that shapes your story, not just its vibes.

🔗 Culture Is Built on Power, Not Just Style

Ask yourself: → Who’s in charge, and why? → Who has land? Who doesn’t? → What’s considered taboo, sacred, or punishable by death?

Culture is shaped by who gets to make the rules and who gets crushed by them. That’s where things like religion, family structure, class divisions, gender roles, and social expectations actually come from.

Start there. Not at the embroidery.

2.🪓 Culture Comes From Conflict

Did this society evolve peacefully? Was it colonized? Did it colonize? Was it rebuilt after a war? Is it still in one?

→ What was destroyed and mythologized? → What do the survivors still whisper about? → What do children get taught in school that’s… suspiciously sanitized?

No culture is neutral. Every tradition has a history, and that history should taste like blood, loss, or propaganda.

3.🧠 Belief Systems > Customs Lists

Sure, rituals and holidays are cool. But what do people believe about: → Death? → Love? → Time? → The natural world? → Justice?

Example: A society that believes time is cyclical vs. one that sees time as linear will approach everything—from prison sentences to grief—completely differently.

You don’t need to invent 80 gods. You need to know what those gods mean to the people who pray to them.

4.🫀 Culture Controls Behavior (Quietly)

Culture shows up in: → What people apologize for → What insults cut deepest → What people are embarrassed about → What’s praised publicly vs. what’s hidden privately

For instance: → A culture obsessed with stoicism won’t say “I love you.” They’ll say “Have you eaten?” → A culture built on legacy might prioritize ancestor veneration, archival writing, name inheritance.

This stuff? Way more immersive than giving everyone matching earrings.

5. 🏠 Culture = Daily Life, Not Just Festivals

Sure, your MC might attend a funeral where people paint their faces blue. But what about: → Breakfast routines? → How people greet each other on the street? → Who cooks, and who eats first? → What’s considered “clean” or “proper”? → How is parenting handled? Divorce?

Culture is what happens between plot points. It should shape your character’s assumptions, language, fears, and habits—whether or not a festival is going on.

6. 💬 Let Your Characters Disagree With Their Own Culture

A culture isn’t a monolith.

Even in deeply traditional societies, people: → Rebel → Question → Break rules → Misinterpret laws → Mock sacred things → Act hypocritically → Weaponize or resist what’s expected

Let your characters wrestle with the culture around them. That’s where realism (and tension) lives.

7.🧼 Beware the “Pretty = Good” Trap

Worldbuilding gets boring fast when: → The protagonist’s homeland is beautiful and pure → The enemy’s culture is dark and “barbaric” → Every detail just reinforces who the reader should like

You can—and should—challenge the aesthetic hierarchy. → Let ugly things be beloved. → Let beautiful things be corrupt. → Let your MC romanticize their culture and then get disillusioned by it later.

📍 TL;DR (but like, spicy): → Culture is not food and jewelry. → Culture is power, fear, memory, contradiction. → Stop inventing spices until you know who starved last winter. → Let your world feel lived in, not curated.

The best cultural worldbuilding doesn’t look like a list. It feels like a system. A pressure. A presence your characters can’t escape—even if they try.

The moment had been a quiet revelation, in a silence so profound it frightened him. The kind of silence that followed the first crack of thunder, one moment loud and undeniable, the next building with tension, waiting for it to strike again. 

You were sitting in the library of the manor, an arcane book resting open upon your lap, the fire crackling softly behind you. He had just returned from patrol — broken, bloodied, and defeated.

You looked up, eyes wide, alarmed at his state and asked, ‘Bruce?’ You had spoken as if he were not the Batman, not an emblem of vengeance and grit, but a man, just a man, whose hurt mattered.

Something in him gave out. Not in an ostentatious, cinematic collapse, but in the subtle yielding of defences too long held taut. His mind, a fortress of rationale and boundaries, fell silent.

She sees me, for all I am, it whispered. And yet she stays.

He had not believed in unconditional love since the alleyway. But in that moment, with the stench of blood from his suit and the leaden weight of the city upon his back, he saw love for what it was — not a sanctuary, but a quiet understanding, and a choosing. And she had chosen him.

It terrified him. Because now he had yet another thing to lose, to protect, something that was not abstract. It had a name. A voice. A laugh. It sat in his home and softened his world.

That was when he knew.

Jason felt it like the first rays of sun upon his back after a piercing winter, it flooded his system, warm and compelling. It struck him all of a sudden — new, unfamiliar, and… unwelcome. He did not want it. He had not asked for it.

You were brushing your teeth, half-asleep, wearing one of his old shirts, humming a song under your breath as though nothing was wrong in the world, as though it were not in a state of disrepair just beyond the window. And while watching you, he could believe it for a moment too.

Jason stood in the doorway, paralysed. Because he had seen too much tragedy, too much carnage. He could hardly believe that a quiet instant of peace, like this, could even exist, let alone in his reality.

His first instinct was to run. Not literally — he could never leave you. But to emotionally retreat, to steel himself for the moment this fleeting softness was stolen from him.

But you looked at him. Just looked — toothpaste foam and all — with a kind of amused concern, and asked, ‘You okay?’

After everything he had been through. He was not sure he had ever been less okay.

He loved you. He loved you with a passion that made him feel unworthy, as if he had tainted something holy.

A voice in him protested — said it was weakness. Said this would end in catastrophe. But he ignored it, just this once. He stepped forward and kissed your temple.

‘Yeah,’ he said. ‘Just tired.’ But he was not. This was a lie. His mind was reeling.

He did not sleep that night. He lay awake memorising your breathing.

It was a question you asked that did it. Something ordinary, like, ‘Did you eat today?’

Tim wanted to laugh because it was such a cliché, wasn’t it? But clichés exist because they are true. No one ever asked him that, not like you had, not like it genuinely mattered. 

Then you brought him a coffee, one of those orders so tailored it was essentially an identity. You did not need to ask what he wanted. You simply knew.

He blinked down at the cup, then at you, and suddenly the task he was completing meant nothing.

He felt the world tilt. Quietly. Like the axis of his orbit had shifted. And it had.

Love, to Tim, had always been a puzzle he did not have time to solve. A thing for normal people, with normal lives, for people who lacked the responsibility he had garnered.

But there it was — simple, unassuming and irreversible.

He did not tell you. Not for a long time.

But he began cataloguing what made you smile. The way your face changed after a laugh, crinkled and carefree. He noticed the way your eyes sparkled just a little brighter when you spoke of things that made you passionate, and how the corners of your lips turned up when you were lost in a quiet thought.

This love became his sustenance, it was the first time in years he feared forgetting something.

Love was chemical, juvenile, a distraction. Or so he had been taught. So he had believed.

Ok I've talked about magic and runes for Nexus. But now we're moving on to the fun stuff with the legacy continuity.

Ya see legacy as a world, is about the impact of the past, and that's because the legacy is essentially a reinterpretation of Nexus.

So let's start off with the legacy arms and I actually have a pic for this.

Now there are 7 (AND I MEAN SEVEN) legacy arms all of which are either based off Japanese regalia, a weapon Takehaya Sussano'o used, items wielded by samurai, or in the red moons case, In lore a weapon used by the moon mother, kaguya.

Each weapon gives the user a unique power.

Kuma Sussano'o or the hailbeard of Sussano'o is the 7th of the legacy arms to be found and has the ability to summon and control water.

The thunder bow is the 6th to be found and can control lighting by firing out bolts whenever you pull back the string.

The red moon is the 5th to be discovered and is the main weapon of the protagonist, Jacob lilim. The red moon can absorb attacks until the blade turns bright red, then in which you can sheath the sword before quick drawing and doing a massive cut that deals major damage to whatever it hits, the slash also releases arcs of red hard light that can hit enemies at a distance.

Grass cutter is the fourth of the weapons that was found and can control the wind and used to essentially extend the reach of the weapon as well as just in general can be used for long distance cuts.

The sun mirror shield is the 3rd to be found and is interesting, it can create a hard light shield that whenever struck can retaliate by releasing a burst of scorching light at the attacker, and normally that's all it does, but it can also combo with the other legacy arms, for instance when combined with the red moon the arcs of hard light gain the property of also being 1,000 °C in terms of heat, which raises the idea that this arm is intended to be used alongside the other arms instead of being it's own stand alone arm.

The jade arrows are the 2nd discovered of the legacy arm, they were originally a single jade magatama that split into an almost infinite number of arrows despite the fact that when seen there's usually only 9 or 6. These arrows can be used by themselves as they float and attack on command of the one who uses it. But interestingly it also combos with the thunder bow, as when fired from the bow the arrows can target an opponent and seek them out, dealing massive damage and electrocuting the opponent.

The destroyer armor was the first to be discovered and not only can it be called on at will and fly horned and around the user but the owner is also impervious to any physical damage essentially making it act like a shield when not worn and simply just floating around. Please when one the user can call upon storm clouds and even walk upon them. Along with this comes the ability of creating mist and summoning Spears and swords made of lightning bolts. Along with this the armor has the unique property of being able to command the other arms, as whoever wears it can wield the other legacy arms

but why is that so notable?

well the legacy arms are magic and magic can only be wielded by the Kami however theoretically humans can use magic but they can only use a finite amount.

But the legacy arms also have a unique property in which they bond to the first person to use them making it so that the weapon is loyal to them and them alone.

With the armor being as such the fact that it can command and be used on side other legacy arms is very interesting as an implies that it has such a unique connection to its former user who would have assumed to have been a kami that the armor holds that same authority as its prior user.

The legacy arms are also very important outside of their combat usage as they detail the ancient history and what happened during the age dubbed "the stormless age".

However they also have the ability of allowing the wielder to move during the 13th hour which is also known as The witches hour, in which all time stops to rest meaning no one without magic or a legacy arm can move nor even think during that hour it is a time of total stasis. Until the hour passes in which time proceeds as normal.... Except there are other beings who move in the thirteenth hour and can only exist during that time. Star crawlers, also known as basilisks.

No research has been made on these creatures due to the fact they can only exist during the 13th hour before vanishing and whenever one is killed during the 13th hour their body dissipates into Ash.

But what is known as that these creatures have a singular goal to take the legacy arms and destroy them.
