Ed not only being Non-binary but also transitioning along the story is really cool and something i have barely seen in other media (esp fem presenting nb) but i think deep down their current stance is just a culmination of their wish to being "someone else" while also being unable to

They were "adopted" by the Guerras yet after the divorce Angel never cared for them, he only has Isabel's custody and doesn't seem to be bothered for this. Francisco calls them a freeloader and they never call any of them "family" even if they legally are

Yet they're still asked to fill the "older brother" role for Isabel

This has led to Ed seeing Isabel has their only link to their family, even if they hadn't realized it yet. With that in mind their mental breakdown in chapter 5 changes a lot. It's not about "losing a friend", deep down it's about not filling the only role they've been asked to.

When they aren't asked to be"the older brother" then they're "the Burger's son", a living memento and reminder of their parent's disappearence

Bruce and Gwen don't really mean anything to Ed since they were too little to remember them, but they're asked to be on a constant mourning, Spender remembers all of the club members yet the only thing he can share about Ed is that they're the Doctor's child and what it means to his relationship with the doctors

This roles are no problem for them, they like to fill the mold that people assign to them after all

But they have become a core part of their identity. And when Ed starts questioning their gender identity they start to question why they can't fill those roles too.

And the wish has come true! they're someone else! they're smart and cute and aren't lacking anything in particular! They've broken the mold!

But that "someone else" is still the kid who wishes to fill the "Isabel's sibling" and "Burger's child" because Ed has entangled those concepts so tight to their identity and self that they can't imagine a version of themself without them.

Ed's identity as a whole has been what others have built for them and they have just accepted to be the reflection of that, realizing they're non-binary and be open about that (even with a big push from the wish) has been the first step to unbuild all of it, but they still need a lot of reconstruction to do which i think they're currently not smart enough to see.

looking at these pictures side by side like this really puts so much in perspective. all the hard parts of second puberty and surgery recovery, all the fighting with my parents over the steps it took to get here, all the hours i worked at an awful job to save up for it, all the years i spent waiting for any of this to be possible…it’s all so worth it to be where i am now.

two years ago, if you had shown me the picture on the right, i probably would’ve said that even t and top surgery could never make me look like that, no matter how much i wanted to. that was the kind of person whose pictures i would look up to as some sort of wishful thinking, never as a realistic goal, and now here i am. now that’s my body and i feel like i can relax in it and just be for the first time.

I think it's so relatable to see trans women and transfem and generally people who no longer have a testosterone-dominant system describing what it was like to have a testosterone-dominant system. I find that often, when they talk about being angry, depressed, irate, or just irritable, I relate because that was me before I went on testosterone. I was so fucking angry and irate and genuinely unpleasant to exist around because I didn't have testosterone.

See, I think instead of estrogen or testosterone being the "bad, angry" hormone, it's more like... of course trans people who need hormones are going to be unpleasant before getting hormones - both your body and your brain require that you have a certain level of hormone balance. Of course somebody like me was fucking furious all the time, the brain does weird shit when its needs aren't fulfilled!

This isn't about criticizing any one group of trans people, rather, I encourage people to remember that ascribing inherent qualities to certain traits (e.g., saying "estrogen is such a horrible hormone!") isn't necessarily good. It's absolutely fine to talk about personal experiences with pre-transition, I do that all the time! The only issue is bioessentializing hormones, in essence, ascribing inherentness to traits we often share.

Croc two moods around Dragon.

I love to imagine them meeting time after gold roger executi*n, and back then Croc and even Dragon still didn’t met Ivan, so Croc is pre transition.

They had a pretty pure relationship, kisses and hugs you know, mostly because i like to imagine Dragon being a slow burn relationship’s liker.

And he wants Croc to be 100% sure to not be uncomfortable around those kind of things.

After Ivan, Croc will have more self confidence and will be ready to open himself for something more 😊

Thinking about a transmasc Wilson who doesn't realise he's trans until he treats a patient with Blue Hair And Pronouns and feels weirdly [uneasy/unsettled/uncomfortable????] every time he interacts with them

At first, he worries that maybe he's transphobic and ties himself in knots about it and doesn't know the right things to say—he asks the patient, "uh, what do I call you?" and they say their pronouns and then ask Wilson for his, who finds himself oddly tongue-tied even though he knows the answer should be she/her

He keeps obsessing about the interaction, getting confused about how the patient described their dysphoria because everyone feels that, right?

He mentions this to House, whose main contribution is "you'd be hot as a guy" and Wilson is like 👀👀👀 would I???
