"A tree but very big" is such a good concept. It keeps coming back for a reason.
Yes I think I would like a very big tree. I got that monkey in me.

I thought Matt name-dropping Laerryn was a fun little easter egg because Aabria was at the table, but.... no. If the Great Tree of Atrophy really is the remnants of the Tree of Names, then Chetney could use grim psychometry on it, he could see Laerryn casting blight, hear her name being called, and connect her to the name in Ludinus' notes.

Well, here's the start of my series on the family tree of the Greek Gods. Most of my info will be coming from whatever I find on wikipedia or through google, although I might throw in some of my own personal opinions and interpretations too (but feel free to reblog and add things if you feel I missed something):
The first three deities to come into existence were Chaos, Gaia and Tartarus. Or as Wikipedia calls them: The Void, The Earth and The Abyss.
Chaos then had two children, Erebus and Nyx. Erebus and Nyx are also husband and wife, so that's weird. But I suppose they were some of the only people in existence at that time, so they kind of had to rely on each other. From them, Erebus and Nyx would have many children of their own.
Together with Erebus, Nyx gives birth to Aether and Hemera. I wonder how mother and daughter got along, since Nyx and Hemera were literally the personifications of Night and Day. Maybe they're the reason we have that saying, huh?
Anyway, Nyx also gave birth on her own. Without any father, Nyx gives birth to many children. According to Wikipedia, her children included Thanatos and his twin brother Hypnos, Nemesis, Eris, Momus, Moros, Philotes, Geras, Oizys, Apate, Charon and The Fates. All of these were her children, which technically means Charon is older than his boss. Strange how things work out like that, huh? I guess seniority isn't really a concept amongst the gods.
Anyways, this is getting a bit long. So stay tuned for part 2, when I can hopefully turn away from Nyx and turn towards Gaia.

Something I don't get about Ashton
SPOILERS up to C3 Ep 74
Tumblr media
Okay, so... according to the Tree of Atrophy, Ashton was always meant to be born, Efterin was always meant to do the ritual that turned him into an Earth Genasi/Titan of Blood and destroy the rest of the cult.
Yes? Yes.
Except...
Imogen and FCG have been in Ashton's head. The part infused with dunamis. And they saw other timelines where Ashton remained an Aasimar.
Meaning, the whole Titan of Blood destiny thing is not quite so absolute.
So, who's wrong here? The Tree or the Luxon? Or did I miss something?

Asherah, the original mother goddess of the early Semitic mythos. She was the wife of the supreme god El. Asherah birthed the Canaanite pantheon, from Baal and Astarte to Yam and Mot, all of them were born from her union with El. Asherah’s origins are unknown, however it’s believed that she was the feminine aspect of El. In one of the few surviving myths, Asherah is shown as Yam’s biggest supporter for the throne of the chief god. Her epithet of ‘Asherah of the sea’ illustrates just how important their relationship was. Despite her support, Yam ultimately loses to Baal for the throne. Asherah in modern abrahamic faiths was reduced to a false idol, with her poles’ being targeted and destroyed.
Asherah is the earliest depiction of the Mother Goddess trope, with her role in Canaan being so influential it affected the religious landscape. The Mother Goddesses became a ubiquitous feature among polytheistic religions, to the point where the absence of one is something to note. Though her name was demonized in modern times, her essence still lives on in her descendants faiths. As Eve from the garden of Eden is proposed to be derived of Asherah. As El was the predecessor of the Abrahamic God, Asherah’s relationship to the omnipotent deity has become a focal point for her. Her legacy may even live on in the feminine aspect of modern god: Shekinah, and the gnostic Aeon: Sophia.

In the unfathomable depths of the obsidian sky, where stars blink like the dying eyes of ancient gods, an oppressive silence blankets the world below. Shadows writhe like serpents between the gnarled knuckles of twisted trees, their bark slick with the sheen of creeping dread, while the air thrums with a distant, dissonant whisper that speaks of things best left forgotten. Beneath the earth, in the damp embrace of forgotten crypts, creatures stir—formless echoes of madness yearning for release, clawing at the sanity of those foolish enough to gaze into the abyss. As the moon bleeds its pale light onto the shattered ruins of a once-hallowed sanctuary, a chill settles deep in the bones, heralding the approach of nightmares too vast to comprehend, where every heartbeat resonates with the lingering touch of primordial terror.

Still unwell about Rilke and PH
I love the dark hours of my being.
My mind deepens into them.
There I can find, as in old letters,
the days of my life, already lived,
and held like a legend, and understood.
Then the knowing comes: I can open
to another life that's wide and timeless.
So I am sometimes like a tree
rustling over a gravesite
and making real the dream
of the one its living roots
embrace:
a dream once lost
among sorrows and songs.
#There's in Rilke and especially in this particular book a lot about the world‚ created in the beholding and loving it‚#and one existing to love the world. There's so much about the world being created by that loving and knowing the world of one individual#person that loves and knows it. A kind of feedback loop of existing and being by love and knowledge that is all a participation#on the act of creation. The person coming to exist to love and know the world‚ and creating the world by loving and beholding it#This is also present on Juan Ramón Jiménez‚ among others‚ but 5 yo me was obsessed with those poems. ANYWAY#This topic made me think of Lacie a lot but in this particular poem that topic + the 'I'm sorry' scene + the figure of Lacie beyond Lacie‚#a Lacie that's legend and real‚ a Lacie always sitting under a tree‚ life ending and life expanding so to speak‚...#That kind of knowing it all in a glimpse that is knowing in an instant and eternal (which again reminds me of Kierkegaard‚#fitting I'd say with Rilke). I'm explaining myself terribly but I don't want to talk too much haha But yeah it all seemed very fitting#There was another poem about spiralling so to speak around god that I also thought was very Lacie but very PH in general#('I live my life in widening circles / that reach out across the world. / I may not complete this last one / but I give myself to it /#I circle around God‚ around the primordial tower. / I've been circling for thousands of years / and I still don't know: am I a falcon‚ /#a storm or a great song?'). The spiralling around god in what is still some sort of emanence or reflection of it while being also#different iterations of the self which all reflect it also reminded me a lot of Cantor's transfinite numbers#Which again is quite fitting and coherent with the other authors and PH imo‚ but I may be biased. Anyway yes. This reminded me of Lacie#I didn't plan on drawing anything at first and now I have to flinch to read the poem#I hope I'll recognise enough of what I've written when I eventually come back to this#I talk too much#I should probably delete this later#mine*
