I just realised that all the media I adore has some level of autistic/neurodivergent coding and it's been that way since I was a child.
And like, oftentimes their different way of perceiving and being in the world is the driving force of the story/and or a crucial element in it.
There’s the canon example of the entire Camp Halfblood (ADHD), where the ADHD is literally what keeps the characters alive.
There's Dean Winchester (ADHD) whose hyperfixations are typically masculine (as well as geeky) and who never sits still, with the added bonus of Castiel (Autism), who Dean just... accepts, in a way I rarely see.
Then there’s the infamous Will Graham (Autism) whose hyperempathy is litterally the focal point of the entire narrative.
We have Haru from Free! (Autism), whose special interest (swimming) is the motivating factor for several other characters.
Reki and Langa from Sk8 the infinity (Autism), who share a special interest and grow a special bond because of it.
There's Sai from Hikaru No Go (Autism), who trancedented time and space to play Go (special interest) and whose special interest sets the story into motion.
We have any version of Sherlock Holmes (AuDHD), who's brilliance I attribute to a mixture of hyperfixations and special interest in crime solving. His conflicts with society and disregard of social norms are a central theme as well.
There's Anne with an E (Autism), who loves words and stories and speaks before she thinks (where all major problems arise due to her lack of understanding for social norms)
We have Pat and Pran from Bad Buddy (ADHD + Autism), like I dunno, I just really felt that vibe.
There's Beth Harmon from Queen's Gambit (Autism) with her special interest in Chess.
And like, the list goes on: Daryl Dixon, Jon Snow, Kotaro from Kotaro Lives Alone, Will Treaty from the Ranger's apprentice, Hal from the same author, Katniss Everdeen, Si-eun from Weak Hero Class 1, etc.
Don't get me wrong I've consumed plenty of stories without characters coded this way, but all the stories that truly resonated with me? Neurodivergent, all of them.
It's probably because the focus on social norms/hierarchy always seemed foreign to me. Eg. I like Skam but it's like a view into a completely foreign world where people function differently.

holmes and watson as the sun and moon respectively because holmes is a burning, eccentric force of nature who collapses like a dying star when his mind seizes him, because watson is a solid rock who provides the stone for holmes to lean against and reflects his light by documenting the cases and righting holmes' thought process and scattered bearings. holmes as the light that comes back into watson's life after he's been stripped of hope and forced to wander around london's dark streets without any friends or familiar faces to support him. watson as the calm, ever-present soldier who is capable of burning with equal intensity but is often underestimated in his power because he isnt as outwardly flashy as the sun. holmes as the sun because he does everything with passion, with an inward intensity, watson as the moon because he has the same power but with softer lights, not blinding but glowing, calming. holmes and watson as the sun and moon because they will always be said in conjugation with each other. they belong as one. holmes as the sun because he is the light and watson as the moon is his conductor of light. holmes as the burning sun and watson as the shining moon- do you. do you understand.

Pleeeaaase, I need everyone here to get hold of Lyndsay Faye's Observations by Gaslight so I can scream about it - especially about "The Adventure of the Stopped Clocks".
It is perfect. It is narrated by Irene Norton née Adler, and additional to the fact that the author portrays Irene AND her relationship with Holmes in such a delightful way (Spoiler TM: They are not star-crossed lovers), it will completely rip out your heart. It is so good. (And the other stories are also superb!) Trust me. Please. I'm desperate. XD

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again:

Is there a book or another tv series that's like The Artful Dodger? The series is really scratching the itch in my brain for clever, witty period stories
I remember Anne With An E gave me almost the same rush. Downton Abbey is sometimes too fairy tale like I keep rolling my eyes at how convenient some plot are. Peaky Blinders is a tad too vulgar for me; I did enjoy the first season tho, somewhat. Pirates of The Carribean franchise is perfect
Edit : It's like the Warner Bros Sherlock Holmes franchise that's my favourite Holmes so yeah it's been literal yearss since that itch in that part of my brain is scratched lol
And please.......don't say Bridgerton. That's just not it.

The difference between A. C. Doyle's and E. A. Poe's detective duos is that while it's only Holmes that is occasionally depressed, it's both Dupin's AND the narrator's  province, and also like. Their main job. Their main job is being depressed.

Hm an intriguing ponderable perspective you've imposed on me. Why, I failed to consider the possible significance of the bark I hold in my hands. For all the knowledge we possess, this magnificent specimen could have been a part of the first of its kind of towering plant... A gift from the gods themselves as a miracle of life in a desolate wasteland... I almost regret having picked up such an awe inspiring portion of growth, shed like the scales of a mighty dragon only to be used as little more than a tool... I shall lay this strip of broken off wood at your feet to choose what you wish to do with this, unknowing of its place in this vast and ever changing world
Translation: Whoa. It might be important. You do something with it
Do not despair, young one. Very seldom do souls such as ours come across such an opportunity as this. Instead of looking at it as a grand failing, as a foolish and ignorant disturbance of an act of nature greater than us through sheer human ignorance... Instead look at it as a newfound purpose.
Why else would such a relic be laid at our feet? Strike our interests and captivate our curiosity so wholly? It's as you so wisely pointed out yourself. A gift from the gods. Laid at our humble shoes to find and discover its true purpose and origin.
C o m e. Together, you and I, we shall find the hidden purpose of this gift of bark and wood. The gods have chosen us to discover the truth of this relic, after all.
Who are we to disappoint them?
