Okay sooooooo some context for my personal thoughts on this, sorry it’s a little long!

I’ll start by saying Eo was very young and naive, so I acknowledge that she wasn’t working with the full picture of their world. Yes, she was technically an adult in Red society, but she was also isolated by a bubble of lies and propaganda and has no larger context for the world, so of course her basic reasoning is going to be flawed for that.

However, how she chose to act out was not ideal.

Eo pushed Darrow as far as she could to do something for the Reds, even though she didn’t know what that meant exactly (taking in just canon events here, so the theory of her being involved with the Sons isn’t taken into account for these opinions.) Yes, Darrow has always had the potential to be a leader. No, that does not mean she gets to manipulate him into doing it.

The facts as Eo would know them are this: Mars is uninhabitable on the surface. Golds are basically gods of war and rule a multi-planet Society. Reds are fragmented as a Color (a Gold strategy to weaken them). Darrow is a Helldiver, and has no training in leadership or warfare. There’s an anarchist group called the Sons of Ares.

Given those facts, how could someone “break the chains”? Why was Eo so adamant that Darrow could do this impossible thing?

Based on the facts, there’s no reason to believe that he even could. Eo was reckless, short-sighted, and manipulative. She had no real reason to believe that she could be the catalyst for an actual full-scale rebellion.

Even though Darrow is the one that so many think burn hot & fast, it’s really Eo that does. And she’s happy enough to use that to force him into being the focal point for the Rising.

It’s also just sad that Darrow just wanted to be happy, but instead got dragged into all of this because of Eo’s choices for him. And that just bugs me.
