I've said this so many times already but I NEED a scene where Will seemingly dies in front of Mike's eyes who lets out the most agonizing scream and crawls over to Will's body, shaking him, desperately trying to wake him up, sobbing, blaming himself... and when Will wakes up eventually I need the most gut wrenching hug of relief between them both. GIVE ME THE ANGST, THE PAIN, THE TEARS! No for real I need Mike to CRY for Will.

I swear some people just forget homophobia was a huge thing back then, like Robin even said so herself, if she asked the wrong girl out she’d be the “town pariah” shunned by the people of Hawkins. Being gay wasn’t something you talked about back then. Mike clearly doesn’t accept himself and Will is obviously too scared to say it out loud, even to Jonathan, so why on earth would he confess to Mike?? His best friend, the guy who’s dating his sister?? He has no reason to believe Mike is queer because Mike is trying his hardest to appear normal and Will doesn’t think he deserves to be loved.

When byler does happen in season 5 (and it will) it’s probably gonna be some life or death type shit that causes Mike to confess to Will, it’s not just gonna be a casual conversation.

Let’s break down this quote for anyone who hasn’t figured it out yet because it’s one of my favourite byler easter eggs

“when blue meets yellow in the west”

We know that the characters in the show are colour coded, Mike is coded as blue and Will is coded as yellow. We know that Mike approached Will (at the swing set) and asked to be his friend, he said “yes” so Mike met Will.

Based on everything we’ve been shown location-wise we know that there’s a park with a swing set in the west of Hawkins right behind the school. So Mike literally met Will in the west of Hawkins and that quote is just a fun little nod to it and a call back to season 2 for the viewers to decipher.

S3 is my favourite season of stranger things and recently I’ve seen a lot of the GA saying it’s also their favourite season which is cool and all but I remember after it came out I swear everyone was saying it was shit and how the show was ruined and it’s just funny to me seeing how the public opinion has so drastically shifted over the past 5 years

Sometimes I just randomly remember Finn proudly talking about how he added the ‘super hero’ line into Mikes monologue to El and calling himself a genius for it, as well as him referring to the scene as Mike professing his love… and man I just giggle a little, this mf ships byler just as hard as Noah, he just has a little more tact about it lol

I’ve honestly had such a different range of emotions almost every time I’ve watched the scene between Dustin and Susie in s3 singing the song from the never ending story together

at first watch I was definitely cringing a little, I definitely felt as confused as Steve and Robin about what on earth was happening but I was also kind of excited because I was soooo obsessed with that movie as a kid and I hadn’t heard the song in years

then on first rewatch I was so angry and annoyed, I hated it so much and I blamed Susie for Hoppers death, I hated her as a character and I’m pretty sure I skipped through it (I’m dramatic, I know)

but then after knowing Hopper was alive I wasn’t as mad, I just found it cringe, I still didn’t like it but I understood why it was there, they needed a road block to progress the story

and now I actually like the scene, I can appreciate the absurdness of the whole thing as well as how funny the other character’s reactions are, and honestly- maturing is realising how iconic Susie is, she’s 14 but she knows what she wants and she won’t settle for less

the battle of starcourt is my favourite episode so I’m honestly just glad I can watch that scene without feeling like it ‘ruins’ it now, which is how I used to feel

And ironic considering how much El is compared to Will through out season 1, plus the fact that Mike has known Will for twice as long

A lot of people joke about Will being a dramatic gay when he says “it’s been a year Mike” at rink-o-mania, and while yes, I do agree- I think the reason he says that is probably because that’s how long he’s felt ignored by Mike for

I know it can be a little hard to remember since season 4 came out 5 years after season 2 and the actors look a lot older but that scene only takes place 1 year and 3 months after the end of season 2 when Mike and El dance together at the snow ball

Will complains about them being super wrapped up in each other “all summer” in season 3, ignoring the rest of the party, so it’s safe to assume that they could’ve started being super close to each other in March of ‘85, 3 months after the dance and exactly a year before the rink-o-mania fight (March 22nd 1986, Wills birthday 😭)

So yes, Will was being a dramatic gay but his exaggeration of their time apart was rooted in the genuine distance he had been feeling for the past year which started before he even moved to Lenora, he feels like it’s been a year since they were actually best friends so I think that’s why he said it had been a year, it was because of his subconscious feelings of separation from Mike and not just the physical distance between the pair

started watching stranger things with my friend who has basically never seen it before (he watched the first season and half of the second one back in 2020 when he had covid but he had to turn it off because he realised he had no idea what was going on… he said he couldn’t tell me a single thing that happened in the show but he remembered there was a hot guy with a mullet at some point lmao) and I’m wondering how long it will take for him to clock byler, we are both gay btw so he’ll probably say something once he figures it out
