Cherrywood Coffeehouse has now become one of my favorite coffee shops in Austin. This breakfast taco was enjoyed before going on a hike through the Barton Creek Greenbelt and I’d like to think it gave me the energy to keep going! Fun atmosphere, great food, relaxed environment, coffee that rivals my usual Starbucks.

The truth behind being a veghead
A common question vegheads (vegetarians/vegans/pescatarians) are asked is “how do you get enough protein?” You were never worried about my protein intake before I became a anti-meat eater so why do you care now?
I enjoy explaining to people the reasons why I’m a pescatarian. It opens their eyes to other lifestyle possibilities and eventually they won’t be so clueless about vegetarians and hopefully stop stereotyping that we’re all meat-eater-haters who are obsessed with animals. So to continue to dismember this cliché I will lay my reasons for being a lacto-ovo-pescatarian.
Tumblr media
1. I watched a documentary and it instantly influenced me Yas, yas, yaaass. I’m one of “those people” who watches documentaries and becomes passionate whatever the topic was. The Cove, Blackfish, Food Inc., The True Cost, etc. A lot of the documentaries I watch have an influence over me and that doesn’t make me gullible or naive. It makes me open-minded and able to accept new ideas - trust me, there are plenty of docs that I’ve watch and haven’t appreciated. Forks Over Knives is what did it for me. Why wouldn’t you become a veghead if there was a possibility it could get rid of your diabetes or clogged artery issues? I don’t know why either. After I finished watching the documentary I made the decision to become a vegetarian. It wasn’t until a few months later that I discovered the correct term for my diet was lacto-ovo-pescatarian.
2. I never liked meat to begin with I know, I know, it’s kind of cheating if it wasn’t that difficult for me to give up meat to begin with. Growing up was a constant kitchen table battle, force feeding me chicken or pork chops or some unidentifiable brown chewy thing. It kind of made sense to give up meat altogether since I rarely ate it after going to college.
3. I’m not obsessed with animal rights but I do like animals When I became a veghead I didn’t think to myself “I’m going to become an animal rights activist and burn down slaughterhouses”. Nope. Not even close. Animal rights didn’t even crossed my mind when I went over to the light side. However, over time and after a few documentaries (refer to point 1) I developed my own opinion about it. I don’t care if you kill a land animal for food if that’s the only option you have. 95% of time you have options though.
4. Yes, I do eat fish. You’re correct, this doesn’t AT ALL match my above statement. I love fish and shrimp and crab bisque and crab rangoon and all sorts of sea things. I haven’t had the courage to give them up so no shame.
5. Slaughterhouses aren’t nice and I don’t like them Honestly there’s not much more to add to this one. They just aren’t.
If you too want to be a veghead, make sure you consult your physician first.

Austin is a beautiful city. Someone you can find yourself in the middle of it and not feel overwhelmed or feel as if your just an ant crawling through a moutain of scafolding and glass. This city has more to offer than I ever thought possible and I don't think it will ever cease to amaze me.

Movie Review: Woman in Gold I did not have the pleasure of seeing this movie in theatre however, it was still riveting on a average flat screen TV. Ryan Reynolds was his typical handsome self with a bookish side and Helen Mirren delivered the usual graceful and remarkable performance. The cinematography was beautiful and left you wanting seconds while the story was equally heartbreaking and heartwarming.

School House Pub is a school house turned bar. It reminds you of Anne of Green Gables' school days while maintaining its proper Austin feel. The fish and chips are incredible ($5 Monday - Friday, 3 - 7 pm), they have enough beer to outdrink a college party, and they offer cocktail crafting classes.

Adventures of living with my 60 year old parents after college: The Sherbert People
Last Saturday night, neither my parents nor I had plans. This made the following conversation between Mama, Papa, and I happen:
Mama - I’m sorry we’re so vanilla.
Me - I don’t think I would say you’re vanilla, maybe low-fat, sugar free fro-yo. Vanilla is giving you too much credit.
Papa - What’s fro-yo?
Me - The fact that you don’t know what fro-yo is just confirms that that’s what you are.
Mama - Well I’m sorry we’re sherbert people!
Papa then just hysterically laughs.
Now that I’m writing this, it really doesn’t seem that funny. It’s clearly one of those “you had to be there” kind of moments. However, it really was especially since now instead of saying “I’m tired”, Papa says “I’m melting”. And that’s how The Sherbert People inside joke was born. It will probably go down in Hickey History along with every spoken line from “What About Bob”.
