You are Agent Ella! After suspecting your cover has been blown, you rush out to get away from the Dupont's mansion when you're struck off your bike! Waking up in the hospital, you spill your heart out to a nurse, but the next time you wake, she's gone.
It's just you and the doctor. But was that nurse real? How do YOU find out?

A. You mean besides get the kids to school, eat breakfast, exercise, make a cup of tea, and head upstairs to my home office?
I do like to make an outline of each chapter before I create it in StoryLoom. I have a huge document where I keep track of all the past choices readers have made and what happens in each chapter so I can keep all the threads going. And I also work with an editor on the main story arcs in advance to get some helpful feedback!

A: For me, the best piece of advice was the one I needed most: make sure there are high stakes involved! Otherwise, it's not a story, it's just an anecdote. That doesn't have to mean life or death, it just means you have to give the reader a burning question that keeps them hooked. This is true across every genre I write in: personal essays, novels, and interactive stories.

You are Agent Ella! Waking up at the Duponts is sudden and disorienting - especially helping them move all that alcohol the other day. You shake off the feeling of disturbance and head downstairs to meet your new coworkers having breakfast. All three seem nice enough and ask you to join for breakfast. You think you will!

Q: Favorite/least favorite character you've written vs favorite/least favorite character to write?
A: Ella Jacks is quickly becoming one of my favorite characters to write. I love the way she surprises people around her with how smart and fearless she is, but she also has some serious blind spots caused by her fierce need to protect the younger women in her life.
