me explaining that the reason dolores haze is considered “flirty” in the book and movie is because it is from humberts perspective. he is trying to convince not only the audience, but himself too, that his actions were not as bad as they really were. he is trying to paint his relationship with dolores as a love story when in reality, it was the farthest thing from that. the simple truth is that dolores was a child, and if we had gotten the story from her perspective, we would be able to understand more clearly the monster that humbert truly was.
