Experimental Cinema Open Call!
I almost forgot this one oops lol
They are putting on an exhibition called "Between a Frame and a Soft Place", it will also come with a zine! You can submit short films/videos, installations/sculptures, sound art, performance, and written/2d visual work for the zine!
The deadline is Feb 28th, more information here. The exhibition is held in Brooklyn, NY. Keep in mind you have to pay a fee per entry (multiple are allowed), and it's different depending on what you're submitting, according to the entry form!
The theme is "how technology reconfigures identity and presence, prompting us to consider where the human ends and the digital body begins. In this liminal space, the body becomes an evolving assemblage, shaped by ecology, power structures, and the screens we inhabit". The form gives further elaboration: "Your contribution might explore embodiment & identity, reflecting on how digital interfaces alter our experience of the body, blurring physical and virtual boundaries; techno [trans]formations, investigating how emerging technologies reshape human interactions and self-perception; memoria & myth-making, unpacking personal or collective narratives—how are stories and myths refashioned in a screen-saturated age; the spectral & sensory, offering immersive or experimental approaches that walk the line between the seen and the unseen, data and flesh, interface and intimacy."
I imagine this would be especially interesting for robotkins, fictionkins, mythkins, conceptkins, etc.! Personally, sound and landscape are things I connect to a lot as a conceptkin. I might try to make a video! (if im lazy i'll just submit to the zine) Also I want to shout out plural systems here, because I think the Internet is deeply monumental in opening new possibilities to exist as a system and it's a perspective I really want to see!

ZONE Open Call!
ZONE is looking for visual artwork for their next issue! They're very interested in emerging artists!
Keep in mind the deadline is March 31st, and it costs 10 euros per entry and you can submit 15 images for that amount! (you can make multiple submissions)
More details here!
According to their website, they're "interested in the dialogues that emerge when a group of images from various backgrounds start acting like pieces of a bigger organism. In what they can reveal when they find each other in a certain way. We prefer starting from the broadest group of images in order to arrive at another layer of meaning of the whole, by carefully listening to them. This is why we don’t have a specific theme". They also have a manifesto on their home page!
I think there's a lot of potential here for incorporating alterhuman themes! Good luck if you choose to enter!

Submissions open!
I've been running this account for a little bit and I've come to realize that another way I could spread knowledge about alterhumanity is to go to events where other creatives are sharing their work with alterhuman themes and talking to people there. In turn, I can also learn from them and enjoy their art. However, I imagine that we as a community are spread out across a lot of different places, so it'd be better if others could share events that they have come across!
Therefore, I have opened submissions in case others would like to share events/open calls/etc as well. It's not for submitting creative work made for Tumblr--my whole ethos is I want to break into the real world.

Live readings featuring alterhuman and queer themes!
it's in London on Feb 9th!
According to Feminist Duration on their Instagram post they will be reading texts "inspired by shape-shifting and transformation, across time and space, gender and species."
If you are in the area and would like to attend for them specifically Feminist Duration's readings go from 12pm-2pm. Open mic starts from 5:30pm and you can share your own poetry and performances, so this could be a chance for us to be seen!
I am undecided about attending right now but I think going could be very fun! And I do happen to have poetry in line with Feminist Duration's topic ;)

New open call!
This one is from Fieldnotes, a literary magazine which I'm a huge fan of!
The theme is new forms and "everything between almost nothing and becoming something". You can submit words or images. More info on Fieldnotes' own website.
I have not decided on whether or not my entry will be about alterhumanity, however I think this topic could be huge for us so I invite any alterhumans who are also interested to give it a shot!
The deadline is February 2nd, 2025. Apologies for not posting this earlier. Happy holidays!

Quick update!
The form I showed in my last post was an opportunity related to my university's sustainability department and some industry partners. It would've required a lot of commitment from me if I got in and the deadline was last weekend, so I did not apply for it.
Diversity and inclusion would be considered "intragenerational justice" out of all the options on the form. Now, I could've ticked that option and simply wrote sincerely about wanting inclusion and support for alterhumans (Yes, I was being a bit petulant on purpose in my other post. Tbh I wasn't taking the application that seriously, I just wanted to tell the people reading the forms about alterhumanity). Maybe that's a better idea but again, the super tight deadline and the commitment meant that I didn't want to bother.
Perhaps this is my fault for harping on the "co-opting terms" thing too much, but I think the way we think of terms as this sacred thing with defined boundaries is kinda unique to our online community. I honestly don't think the environmental activists would care that much if one day they suddenly found out that "interspecies justice" was now also used to mean justice for alterhumans, but I do understand the concern that physically nonhuman beings have vastly different struggle and needs to us. In my last reblog I talked about this, but the conversation around posthumanism and environmentalism is connected and there's a bit of a spectrum between "okay they're talking about physical nonhumans" to "this sounds like something alterhumans can really benefit from". I now understand that "interspecies justice" on the form falls towards the former, but I've seen a lot of things that are moving towards the latter.
The good news is, if I have sustainability concerns/ideas I can simply talk to the professors about them. I will do that at my own discretion though.

yeah I get what you mean! there's definitely a lot of conversations about posthumanism and environmentalism, some of which sound more "alterhuman" than others.
Tumblr media
ofc the similarity here is just "kin" being used to talk about humans and nonhumans. It's not that big a deal, I totally get that "kin" is just a common word meaning "relation". it just kinda threw me for a loop at first.
Tumblr media
I think this one is starting to enter a space where it's like. They probably don't know about us but it'd be nice if they did, and there's definitely room for this kinda stuff to apply to alterhumans. It's a project that imagines meals meant for humans and nonhumans prepared in harmony with the environment, and alterhuman recipes/identity expression through food is a thing so I made the connection.
Tumblr media
this one is the open call I submitted to earlier, of course it's the most alterhuman sounding but I have no idea whether they are familiar with the community or not, there's a chance they are.
I can see what you mean about "interspecies justice" falling into the first example. I can definitely try to focus on stuff that's more like the second/third examples.
ok here's the plan: I purposefully act like the first one is about alterhuman inclusion.
Tumblr media
I want to talk about people "co-opting" our renegotiation of species boundaries and repackaging it in galleries and talks. Would this be too harsh? Is it inaccurate? What does the community think?
I don't think the posthumanists and the people talking about environmental justice took the ideas and language from us and repackaged them on purpose, but on the other hand I do not like how non-alterhumans speak on those ideas while acting like we don't exist.
p.s. I have noticed a suspicious use of the word "kin" thrown around...but it could be parallel thinking about how we are related to the beings in our environment.

Going to the Digital Body Festival this weekend. Any alterhumans have any thoughts in relation to technology, posthumanism, and digital expression of your identity?
Doesn't have to be about identifying as a robot/machine/ai/etc., could be about you expressing your therian identity with a digital avatar, for example!

Google Form is now up!
It's mostly free response questions, but answer as many or as few as you'd like!
I would say, get your responses in by November 13th if possible! I will appreciate anything you have to say even after that but I am on a deadline (reminder of what I'm entering here if you want context).
p.s. if you want to enter the open call yourself I encourage you to do so! You can think about the questions I posed as well if it helps you!

should I just make a google form survey?
It might be effective in terms of hearing from different beings. However, due to the nature of my work, I imagine it will consist mostly of free response questions meaning it might not be an easy survey to fill out.
Also, the survey would be anonymous, unlike my idea of direct conversations from before.
read previous post for more info/context.

Tumblr media
I am looking to submit written work to Making Kin II: Plants and I would like to consult with phytanthropes/plantkin, although alterhumans in general/anybody who is interested in this topic are welcome! I want to have a conversation/interview where we talk about phytanthropy/alterhumanity. We can simply chat on Tumblr or if you want we can use another platform.
The proposal/outline is due November 18, 2024; I will be writing my piece in the months after that. Please make sure you will be available to talk to me in the next 3 weeks! You are welcome to provide more input after November, but this is not expected of you.
Don’t worry, if I don’t end up chosen after November 18, I will continue exploring this project. Again, You are welcome to chat with me about it, but I won’t expect you to do so.
I will be the sole author of the final text. I will try to credit you for your consultation, but I am unsure of how Institue for Posthuman Studies will publish the work, if it is chosen. Unfortunately, I am unable to offer compensation at this time.
Feel free to message me if you are interested or have any question, comments, concerns, etc.!
