If The Moon Could Tell a Story...

If the moon could tell a story what would it be like? What could the face that watches over us at night tell about the little human race on it‘s little planet? Maybe he would tell a fairy tale about how a little human found the fire, how the little humans learned to use it, how they built huts then houses and then skyscrapers everywhere and how the cities these small humans built became bigger and brighter and became birghter then the moon himself. Maybe he would talk about little children looking at him from their bedroom window. Some even talked to him and told him stories so beautiful and so pure and so full of childish joy. And then he would talk about the parents kissing their children goodnight, the grown ups who used to talk to him but stopped when bills and work became more important. He’d tell the story of the children born in a never ending war. The ones who lost everything to a life they never wanted to live. He’d tell a story of guns and tanks and bombs, of terror and fear. He’d tell us about the ones he saw through their bedroom window, ropes tied, guns loaded, last notes written, minds cursed. The ones who turned their face at him for the last time, faces pale, eyes cold. Then again he would talk about those who love the night as much as he does. Who make the darkest night feel a little less scary. The ones who laugh and run and play and make the lonely moon feel less alone in his never ending orbit. Stories of the wolves who loved him the most but cried for him every night beause they could never reach him. Maybe the moon is afraid of the dark, because he’s the only one who knows every single creature hiding in it from the earth’s dawn to this day. He’s seen them, heard them, felt them when they turned their ugly faces at him and smiled at their own artwork of cruelty and slithered through the streets hoping to find a lonely hopeless human being hiding in the darkness. He’d tell a stories of romans and vikings and pirates and knights and kings and he could continue forever because he’s always been watching over us, giving light and hope to those who need it when the darkness is a little too dark. He’d say that we always tried our best but never quite knew how to treat the beautiful world we were left alone with. The moon would tell a story of the little human race that always tried to reach for the stars. He’d tell a story of the first person he met, how proud and excited that little mammal was to meet the moon. And how he would have loved to talk to him and ask him all kinds of questions and tell him all kinds of stories but he couldn’t because the moon can’t talk and can’t tell stories. But if he could, what would they be like?
