Quote
We think that the point is to pass the test or overcome the problem, but the truth is that things don't really get solved. They come together and they fall apart. Then they come together again and fall apart again. It's just like that. The healing comes from letting there be room for all of this to happen: room for grief, for relief, for misery, for joy.
Pema Chödrön, When Things Fall Apart

I meditated in public today. It was a little weird and physically uncomfortable (I wasn’t in the best seat for it). But I took my meditation teacher’s words to heart: “For ten minutes, everything can wait.”
And everything did.

Retired and craving nature, this man has been feeding the blue jays and squirrels of Golden Gate Park for six years, 4-5 days a week. The squirrels ate out of his hands! Oh the people you encounter on your first walk home through GGP.

The moment when you become an "us"
I'm not talking about the moment when you become official. I'm talking about that moment when you look at each other and feel the overwhelming togetherness you're wrapped up in. Your brain waves and heart waves are in sync. It's ineffable, it's real, it's delicious.

Wise dreams
I've been having funky dreams lately. Last night, I was chewing tobacco with a strange man who cheered when I spit in his bowl. But I also had a dream where I was at a table with my girlfriends talking about soulmates, and this was my monologue: "You're not going to find "the one" or Prince Charming -- he doesn't exist. What you want is someone you really like (not just love) and you wouldn't mind spending the rest of your life with. Look for that person." I realize it's not groundbreaking wisdom, but it was a healthy reminder of what actually matters in a relationship.

This is how it always is when I finish a poem. A great silence overcomes me, and I wonder why I ever thought to use language.

Whirling dervishes in Istanbul Reminds me of advice the amazing Lodro Rinzler gave me: "We can dance with life when it is joyous and when it hurts to dance."

My goddess card of the day: "Do not fear what appears to be a change or a loss. It's only the transitioning orbit of energy interplaying with you and your loved ones. Embrace it as evidence that you're alive! Embrace your deepest emotions as a signal of your true human essence!"

People watching
I love people watching. I'm sitting in one of my favorite coffee shops in DC called Tryst. A handsome man walks in, and it's obvious he's a regular when he connects with a waitress he's met numerous times. He smiles when he sees her, and his gaze stays until she's lost behind the kitchen swinging door. Tension, mysterious, curiosity. It's a love story.

MY EYES SO SOFT Don't Surrender Your loneliness so quickly. Let it cut more Deep. Let it ferment and season you As few human Or even divine ingredients can. Something missing in my heart tonight Has made my eyes so soft, My voice so Tender, My need of God Absolutely Clear.
