Some pictures of my collection!

This isn’t even all I have, there are some more downstairs IIRC. I’m hoping to get a better place to display my beauties, but for now most are unfortunately stuck in a bin.
Which one that you see is your favorite? Shoot me an ask!

BIG NEWS!
Well, not really, but it’s a big deal to me! I usually get my movies from thrift stores, but there is one thing (well, technically three things) that I wanted badly enough to order online.
I just placed an order for the animated LOTR trilogy!!!!
These three movies, (the Hobbit, the Lord Of The Rings and Return Of The King) were animated for TV by Rankin-bass (in LOTR’s case, Ralph Bakshi instead of Fritz The Cat fame. Infamy? Whatever.) these strange musical adaptations of Tolkien’s works were all made in the late 70s, releasing on VHS in the late 90s-early 2000s. I am so excited to check them out, especially because I’ve had the music from them stuck in my head for weeks now and it’s fraying away at my mind.
I will definitely be posting reviews once I can watch them, here’s hoping they’re good!

This isn’t really a review, per se, but if anyone wants a good laugh at a bad movie go watch Freddie the Frog. I won’t spoil anything but let’s just say there’s a reason that no one’s heard of it. Still, owning a screening cassette is kind of a win.

As promised, here is my (rushed) review on quest for Camelot.
Pacing: very poor, too fast most of the time. Characters didn’t have any time to develop. No motives for characters.
Characters: weak, not fleshed out at all, kayley was annoying and impulsive and had no catalyst for change and Garett didn’t have any personality at all. Dragons were annoying. Villain was poorly motivated and the GRIFFON TALKED TOO MUCH. Gonna ramble more about that later. The chicken was useless. Best character was the bird.
Writing: the dialogue was cheesy and boring. Everything tried to be a one-liner, everything failed at it. For some reason the villain’s henchman, a really cool looking Griffon, decided he would start talking halfway through the movie instead of being a cool evil animal companion.
Story: great concept, bad execution. Girl wants to be a knight like her father, father is killed by villain, time skip, villain steals Excalibur and attacks girls family, she escapes, searches for Excalibur and meets mysterious blind hermit along the way, they’re reluctant allies, something happens and they start to be okay with each other, eventual romance. Climactic fight, happy ending. Good idea, poorly done.
Animation: strongest point by far, fairly fluid and nice to look at.
Character Design: other strongest point-all characters looked very good and fit their purposes well. Love Garett!
Audio: TOO MANY CARTOONY SOUNDS
Dialogue:
The dialogue overall was quite cheesy and poor with a few good lines here and there. Tried to be witty but relies too much on outdated pop culture.
Music:
I stand alone was the only memorable song, the others ranged between forgettable and ear-grating.
Overall
A bit disappointed. There was a lot of potential but the writing and pacing killed it a bit. It didn’t really know what it wanted to be, and the characters were not fleshed out at all.

Picked up Titan AE a week ago and Just got around to watching it. I had fairly low expectations after Camelot, and honestly?
It exceeded them!
Titan was the last animated movie by famed animator and director Don Bluth, who created The land before time, the secret of NIMH and Anastasia, among many others. This was also the last movie released by Fox animation studios, and arguably the reason the studio died.
I’ll spare the details, but it is essentially about an alien species named the Dredj, creatures made of pure energy, who destroyed earth. Cale, a human boy who is, essentially, humanity’s last hope, and the Titan, a giant, enigmatic machine built by humans that Cale and the dredj are racing against each other to find.
As expected from Don Bluth, the animation is stellar. (no pun intended). the story is engaging, and the characters are interesting, if not a bit flat. The dialogue can be clunky at times but the voice acting itself is wonderful, and while the pacing is a bit too fast, it at least held my attention.
At its very core, Titan is an edgy sci-fi animated movie a la treasure planet. It wad made for a niche audience, and unfortunately that wasn’t enough to keep it afloat. Titan is not a “kids movie” as evidenced by the blood and partial nudity. (Nothing sexual happens, but two of the characters are seen partially naked in two different scenes.) evidently the target audience was edgy teen fans of sci-fi such as Star Wars, and it didn’t particularly appeal to anyone else.
I would suggest checking this movie out if you enjoy sci-fi, cool alien designs, or 2D animation. It’s not a movie for everyone, but it certainly was for me.
Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m going to play spore.

Finished quest for Camelot, it was...
Well, honestly, it disappointed me. Granted I went into it with higher hopes than I should have, but it was a lot weaker than I expected. I might do a much more in-depth review later, but for now I’ll just say that I love it for what it could have been, not what it is. It had a lot of potential though, and lowkey am thinking of writing a fix-it fanfiction because of how good it could have been.

I got my player working so I’m ready to watch some of my new finds! First up on the list: quest for Camelot! I know a tiny bit about this movie, but from what little I do know, I know I will adore it! I’ll post my thoughts after I’ve finished.

Does anyone else collect VHS tapes, especially obscure animated movies? I just wanted to know if anyone else shares this hobby.
