One thing that has been bothering me a lot over the past few days is seeing all these RIP YOI, RIP IceAdo, Remember YOI etc. posts. As someone who discovered YOI later, I'm watching this unfold from the sidelines and I'm seriously worrying what this is going to do to the fandom. I understand that you are sad because the movie was cancelled, everyone has the right to be sad about such a thing, and I'm not trying to invalidate your pain. But, and I'm saying this with all kindness and my best intentions, and hell, I'm not even the first one saying this, but please hear me out:
YOI IS NOT DEAD.
It did not die last Friday. And it doesn't die because there won't be a movie. No story in human history has ever died because someone decided it was over. Stories are forever. They live in the hearts of the people. And so has YOI been living in the hearts of its fans since October 6th 2016, and will continue to live there for as long as we want.
Whenever I type "Yuri On Ice" into the search field of any social network, web archive, or search engine, I see hundreds of thousands of hits, most of them fanworks. Please take a moment to think about what that means:
In the 7.5 years since YOI aired, fans have made tons of art, written fanfiction and metas, cosplayed YOI characters, created fan videos, crafted all kinds of fan-made merch, and so much more. You are the ones who brought into being an infinite multiverse centred around an anime that is already larger than life. You have already created so much more YOI than Sayo, Kubo, MAPPA etc. could ever create even if they made one hundred movies. And even if every country in the world turns fascist and bans YOI, it will survive because fans will always find ways to preserve it and the power its message holds. Only stories that nobody no longer talks and cares about fade in oblivion.
You hold all the power to keep YOI alive, but, and this is probably the hardest pill to swallow, that also makes you the only ones who are able to kill YOI - be it by stopping to create or talk about it, or by shouting its death from the rooftops because you fancy yourself dramatic, or by turning the fandom into a hate-infested toxic hellscape, whichever will occur first.
And I honestly don't know which of these I fear most.
If you truly love YOI, please do your share and continue to keep it alive.

People often say to me: “You draw like some kind of inhuman machine.  If I eat your brain, will I gain your power?”  The answer is yes, but there is another way. The key to precise drawing is building up muscle memory so that your arm/hand/fingers do the things you want them to do when you want them to do them.  Teaching yourself to draw a straight line or to make sweet curves is just a matter of practice and there are some exercises you can do to help improve. If you’re going to be doodling in class or during meetings anyway, why not put that time to good use?

Good morning! I’m salty.
I think we, as a general community, need to start taking this little moment more seriously.
This, right here? This is asking for consent. It’s a legal necessity, yes, but it is also you, the reader, actively consenting to see adult content; and in doing so, saying that you are of an age to see it, and that you’re emotionally capable of handling it.
You find the content you find behind this warning disgusting, horrifying, upsetting, triggering? You consented. You said you could handle it, and you were able to back out at any time. You take responsibility for yourself when you click through this, and so long as the creator used warnings and tags correctly, you bear full responsibility for its impact on you.
“Children are going to lie about their age” is probably true, but that’s the problem of them and the people who are responsible for them, not the people that they lie to.
If you’re not prepared to see adult content, created by and for adults, don’t fucking click through this. And if you do, for all that’s holy, don’t blame anyone else for it.

"Go to hell" is basic. "Hope your favourite anime movie sequel gets cancelled after seven years in production AND getting an animated teaser." is smart. It's possible. It's terrifying. It's happened.

You, yes, you! Can help improve this archive 💜💙🩵
Dear YOI Fans,
Yuri!!! On Ice isn’t my main fandom anymore, but in light of the cancellation announcement, I feel like right now is a good time to try and complete this blog as far as I can.
If you have merch, or high quality scans, or can take high quality pictures of official art/merch that I haven’t shared in a decent quality on here yet, please reach out to submit the pictures so I can complete the archive. I’ve spent a lot of time in the past hunting for the highest quality pictures I could find, but I wasn’t always successful.
If you don’t have merch or the pictures I’m looking for, please share this post so it can reach those who could help me out 💙
I have a specific tag (“to replace with higher quality”) on this blog for art that I wish to replace with higher quality, additionally I will pin this post and add a Google doc with all the art I’m looking for once I’m done putting that doc together. So please watch this space!
Thank you for your help, I hope together we can complete this project 💜

Katsuki Yuuri is so funny because dude is an Olympic level figure skater who competes internationally regularly and he introduces himself through narration in the first episode as very average in skill, who is doing it like him.
Your self confidence may be bad but is it deluding yourself into thinking you suck at something you rank sixth in the world at bad?

sighs heavily the way yoi has been treated by avex and mappa and whoever else had a say in it is a fucking travesty. it really is, and i will never get over that. i know avex and mappa probably aren't the only ones to blame, but it doesn't even really matter to me who is and who isn't at fault. and it isn't even really about iceado. it just breaks my heart and angers me to no end that such a beautiful, tenderly crafted, uplifting and earnest story with so many lovable characters and a healthy, non-fetishized and happy queer relationship at the centre, which touched the hearts of so many people, just ended up abandoned. some people think this is an exaggeration, but i really do think it was revolutionary and i also think that's at least part of the reason it ended up shelved. if it was just another BL, it probably wouldn't have ended up that way, because it could be neatly categorized as belonging to a specific genre that is seen as "dirty" or "indecent" and which only "perverted women" like. but yoi insisted that an anime with queer romance and queer protagonists doesn't have to be BL, that queerness can not only exist in but be central to a story and represented positively without that story needing to belong to a specific genre. that queerness doesn't just belong in a box labelled "obscene", shoved away so that it doesn't threaten heteronormativity. and that's exactly it: yoi did threaten the idea that heterosexuality is the only "normal" and "correct/proper" sexuality, and it also went against the heteronormative ways queer relationships are typically represented in BL, with a clearly gendered dynamic that the intended audience (women) is supposed to be able to relate to, where the partners are strictly divided into seme/uke : top/bottom : masculine/feminine. this (according to the info i have) led to many BL fans harassing the creators because it wasn't "BL" enough, which could have also contributed to the IP holders deciding to shelve it.
like. yoi went and asked: can a queer relationship be represented positively in an anime not specifically labelled and marketed as having queerness in it? and can that queer relationship be represented in a way that doesn't cater to the heterosexual viewer's tastes and expectations? and from a big part of the audience, the answer was a resounding yes, the anime in question becoming popular beyond expectation (not just because of the queerness, of course). but then i guess there were also reactions and pressures we don't have a clear idea of, and ultimately the anime industry's answer was no – or at least, not beyond a 12 episode series we would prefer everyone quickly forgot about, despite its success. and that's goddamn heartbreaking.
i don't know. maybe i'm wrong or too dramatic about it. i don't think homophobia and heteronormativity are the only reasons it ended up this way, but i do strongly believe they are a factor. yoi was brilliant and revolutionary in many other ways beside its portrayal of queerness, as others have pointed out. it also gave us a realistic depiction of anxiety, wonderfully crafted figure skating routines, amazing music, diverse and non-stereotyped characters from several different nations, male characters that were allowed to be emotional and defy gender norms without it being ridiculed, and much more. but i think that none of these things inhibited its future development quite as much as its insistence that queer love is not a lesser kind of love, and that queer love doesn't have to be a certain way or belong in a certain genre to be acceptable.

YOI didn't just give us actual queer rep in mainstream anime, great unique story, amazing animation and beautiful tracks. It also gave us some rare realistic representation of an anxiety disorder with Yuuri. That it can't just be loved away, that it returns in the most inopportune times, that it makes you irrational and blind to what's in front of you. And to people that didn't see the show, this isn't some fanon interpretation, it's pretty damn clear cut. If you haven't seen YOI, you definitely should give it a chance. The cancelled movie actually doesn't take away from the show at all since it was going to be a prequel and the anime ended in a pretty satisfying note, no cliffhanger or anything.
