Easily one of the coolest libraries I’ve ever walked into and had the tranquil pleasure of studying in. It has a majestic main area that makes one immediately think of Hogwarts. If you’re a Harry Potter nerd like me perhaps, but the moment you look up and see the warm glow of several massive chandeliers, awe remains. The intricate assortment of ancient texts, pages disintegrating, gorgeous woodwork, dust & smells that date back to the Black Death as if these shelves and bannisters were made from ancient materials. It’s quiet. It’s peaceful. I highly recommend any of my fellow bookworms to enjoy its serene alcoves and breathless beauty. Everyone has it in some way, shape, or form and in someTHING or someONE. If your definition of it is correct. Blind faith is not a good understanding of it. Faith is faith, it does not need an adjective. Much like justice, love, peace, hope, joy. The Biblical definition of faith is astoundingly different to the postmodern notion of it. The book of Hebrews in chapter 11 verse 1 reads “Faith is the substance of hope, the #evidence of things not seen.” If you asked an ancient Jew during the Babylonian exile (or earlier) what faith means, they would answer cohesively with the book of Hebrews written about 2,000 years ago, that is to say with proof, with reason, with evidence, historical and archaeological. So there is a simple question you can infer based on the history of Israel, documented not just by the Dead Sea scrolls, but also the Assyrian obelisks and Sumerian tablets discovered by archeologists. The question would sound like this “Why do you believe in the God of your fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Israel?” The answer would not be, “I blindly follow what my mommy & daddy taught me.” It would be more like, “We are in exile now, 10 years ago we weren’t, and it was predicted by several of our prophets before it happened to-the-day. And before that we were slaves in Egypt and this guy Moses showed up and miraculously got 3 million of us out in the great Exodus. Yeah, I believe in the God of Israel, the ONE who said we would never be left alone and forsaken, that we’ll get through this exile after some time, that there will always be a remnant of us Jews regardless of what the world tries to do to us. At least that’s what Moses, Isaiah, Daniel, and the others have been saying over the span of thousands of years with a 100% track record. Don’t believe me... that’s your prerogative. Be honest and follow the evidence wherever it leads no matter how inconvenient it is to your own worldview, but here I stand, and breathe, a Jew in this age of iron.” To me, Faith is evidence-based. I personally believe in the God of Israel for two reasons. 1) The Universe exists and a few billion years later I now have the ability to write this post on social media. 2) Because Israel exists, despite the atrocities, exiles, and the holocausts that this nation has faced persistently since before papyrus. Science is about being testable, reproducible, falsifiable. So don’t take mine, or anyone else’s word at face value for that matter. Communication is integral to unity. Unity is a core virtue for any thriving community. Therefore without communication, communities cannot exist or be sustained for very long... before they crumble into war-zones or into separate factions filled with incessantly belligerent people. Any semblance of peace begins with liberty. The liberty of all individuals. ALL the cards have to be on the table for liberty to be established altruistically. Liberty. That is the freedom to think, and say, and do whatever one wants as long as it does not harm, destroy, inhibit the freedom or wellbeing of another individual. Where does the line get drawn? And who decides? Well if there is no communication, clear, open, and thorough dialogue, if there is no room for discussion, sharing and an exchanging of ideas, welcome to tyranny. Fascism. Socialism. Communism. Marxism. All Catastrophes. All have left a permanent smear in human history. All totalitarian governments ever were a failure and detriment to human flourishing. A distortion of human thought, reality, and liberty. The errors of which I’m terrified will be repeated in the 21st century if we do not stop this “cancel culture” and nip it in the bud before we actually wake up with another iron curtain. This one tearing America asunder. Let’s communicate, reason, and think critically together. We all (anyone reading this post) have at least 3 things in common. We were born, we are human, and we will die. United we stand, divided we fall. Our communication may break down, we’ll make mistakes, and we fumble around, we are made of dirt after all, we can expect errors. But let’s do better, let’s talk, discuss, argue, diversity is a beautiful thing right? Leave homogenization to food products, don’t just disassociate with people because they don’t agree with 100% of your belief system. It’s ok if people disagree, this is good it means we can listen and grow. We can be stretched and strengthen our feeble minds to deal with the cold harsh realities of life, suffering and death. Together. There is One whose communication never ceases. The Great “I Am.” YHWH. We see this in the first verses of Genesis whilst YHWH was about to create human BEings, “Then God said, "Let us make man in our image, after our likeness..." Genesis 1:26 Translated from ancient Hebrew, the Greek Septuagint, and Latin. Why “us” “our” if it not be some profound mystery that the One True Living God has 3 Inseparable and unified Persons acting perfectly One, as One, All-in-all, One in essence, with which to communicate with. Christians call this profound mystery the Trinity. The Oneness of God is dynamic, not absolute. Don't think 1+1+1=3, but rather 1x1x1=1. Because God in all 3 persons are eternal and perfectly equal in unity. This God created a universe with 3 everywhere so in some way our puny brains can grasp the concept, though not fully. Water has 3 states, solid, liquid, gas. It's still H2O in essence, but the molecules are structured differently for all 3, different states, same essence. There is Space, Time, and Matter, there is Past, Present, and Future, There is Mind, body, and spirit. Our hearts have tricuspid valves (3 flaps), and there are many more examples in the natural observable universe that can aid in giving us a real grip on the concept. Though our gear can change, it’s remained fairly consistent. On my end for instance, I’ve been playing, touring, & recording with the same @dwdrums jazz series kit almost 10 years now. I’ve discovered that @daddarioandco is a name I will trust forever and I’d certainly like to be a part of their family. They create such fantastic products it shows in that @evansdrumheads makes the perfect heads I need for my kit and @promarkbydaddario makes a pair of 5b that outlives other companies 5b sticks I’ve played by 3-to-1. The only catch is my bass drum is 23” in diameter (thanks Neil Peart) and well... since I’m not Neil Peart ordering a 23” from @remopercussion is the only option I have and usually a pain in the butt. Because no retailer just happens to have a 23” bass drum head laying around. Also since I’m not Dave Grohl the chances of @zildjiancompany noticing me and asking me to join the family are slim. I would have K custom dark cymbals all around, but I’m down to my hihats and crash. The crash/ride and china I have are the indestructible RUDE @paistecymbals. I am grateful. All of my hardware is DW, EXCEPT and these are the last oddballs, I have a @ludwigdrumshq Ride boom stand and a Black Beauty Snare Drum. Yes she’s a beauty. I prefer the cutting potential that metal snare drums have over the warmth of wood any day. Connor has had an @emperorcabinets cab and @orangeamplifiers head since I first saw him perform with Outrun the Sunlight. As a bassist he’s shown the beef and power of the @kieselcarvinguitars. For this new project we have going together he picked up a @fender jazz bass an LTD baritone guitar (see it’s beauty on Connor’s IG feed) and might I add his pedal board is solid!
