"He invites me into the kitchen and asks me if I’d like a bruschetta – again unexpected. It’s cooked with a flourish and presented restaurant style, all drizzled and garnished up. Before I’m allowed eat it he gets his mobile out and takes a picture – “I photograph every dish I make” he says."

There’s layers of television going on at once here, and they all work together to make the show a wholly unique experience. Following the recent news of a third season renewal, I’m going to try to cover the many aspects of the show, using the great episode Pet Store / Maid Service as a guide.

"To become a comedian you need stage time. You need to find places that let you nervously mumble in front of a group of strangers until eventually, hopefully, you become funny."

"Black books is one of those cult British series that appears, releases very few episodes - usually over an extended period - and then disappears as if it had never existed, leaving only an obsessive fan base and a handful of catch phrases."

"And ultimately, the greatest offence a comedian can make is to be out of touch  - like Barry Humphries appears now, despite his legendary status worldwide, partially owed to his skill in delivering double entendres and innuendos that mask filthiness in quick wordplay."

"...over the past fifteen years, I’ve been subjected to countless hours of intestine-wrenchingly bad spontaneous acting. So imagine my trepidation when I crossed the threshold of Glebe’s Roxbury Hotel on June 5 to witness an evening of amateur improvised theatre."

"Sketch is… sketchy, so hedge your bets and get every sort of comedy. Who’d have thunk Eddie Murphy, Bill Murray and Kristen Wiig all come from the same show? On the other hand, Big Bite may have been a little too diverse for your own good. But good try."

"You will be constantly in the sort of sinful environments that most people only visit occasionally. You’ll be tempted by addictive substances, both illegal and legal. Studies have shown comedians are prone to a little bit of the black dog. Be kind to yourself. Vitamins, mindful masturbation and some positive self talk, people!"

I get to work with some amazingly talented people who trust me with their material in the earliest stages of development. These trusting folks want me to rewrite it, write beats for it, or just get a sense of them so I can pump out new jokes for them. I’m a confidant, a sound board, an editor, and creative. It’s awesome...

I recently decided to stop doing stand-up comedy. In part because to me, right now, this is the funniest thing in the world: It’s an older video but it just does it for me. Everything about it: how...

The odds were stacked against it, but Review With Forrest MacNeil is the new exception to that rule. It’s a remake of that rarest of commodities: a great Australian comedy (Review with Myles Barlow). When I heard MacNeil was delayed for over a year, I feared the absolute worst. But the show has been nothing but a delight since it started...

On any comedy night, there’s lots of laughing, woo-ing, clapping and ‘making noise’ every time someone takes the stage. That is actually quite a vocal workout. Be careful out there with your mirth!...

Last season Big Bang Theory had an average of 18 680 000 viewers per episode. At 22 minutes a throw, that comes to 781 years of Americans’ lives dedicated to watching this show. In fact, across its six seasons it has accumulated over 77 000 years of watching and that is only first run on primetime numbers. To put these numbers in context, it’s about the same amount of time as it would take to build 96 Empire State buildings.
