Something I've noticed is ace ppl tend to identify as bi before figuring out we are ace (me included) and from what I've seen lesbians tend to Id as ace before figuring out they're lesbians. These are all good and valid and maybe you needed one label for one reason or another to feel like you belonged SOMEWHERE which then perhaps helped you to find yourself later by giving you a safe space to grow and learn.
i really want to normalise the idea amongst lgbt youth that its okay to switch labels as you further understand your identity. you’re not a traitor or a fake if you realise you’re bi instead of a lesbian, or if you’re a trans woman instead of a gay man. it’s really difficult and scary to be lgbt and it’s doubly hard to deal with a shifting identity amongst all that so… be kind to yourself. you’re learning and figuring yourself out and nothing is set in stone. let yourself figure out what feels most comfortable to you. and for those who are secure in their lgbt identities, particularly adults, don’t make kids feel bad for switching between labels. we’ve all had identity crises in our lives, so provide support and understanding rather than unforgiving attitudes.
this post is not an excuse to jump on the “of course you can’t label yourself at a young age” bandwagon either. young people who stick with and feel comfortable in an identity from an early age are just as valid as you are.

Welcome to A Carnival of Aces!
For those who are unfamiliar with them, a blog carnival is an event in which many people write blog posts around a single theme. These posts are then collected at the end of the carnival and linked together by the carnival’s host. This carnival is hosted every month and organized by the Asexual Agenda on WordPress and is intended to encourage a variety of different voices to speak about asexuality from their own perspectives. Anyone can participate, but the responses should deal with asexuality or the asexual spectrum (grey-As, demisexuals) in some way. They should also relate in some way to the theme of the carnival.
Our theme is Renaissance-people's experience with ace culture and how they have seen it change.
Submissions can be sent to this blog as a submission or as an ask. Any submission is welcome as long as it relates to asexuality and the theme in some way. Posts can be submitted until August 1st.

@ pan ppl i say its time to unionize
[ id: the epic handshake meme, showing two burly people, one of them black and the other white, shaking hands. “ace people” has been written on the left arm whereas “pan people” has been written on the right arm. “so many fucking things it wouldnt even fit here” is written on the handshake. ]

have we decided on a finger for the ace ring yet?
like so far i've seen:
middle finger of the right hand
middle finger of the left hand
ring finger of the left hand
i initially heard right hand, and that's where i wore mine at first, and then i saw a post saying left?? so i switched it to the left?? and then i just saw another post saying right again

I can’t be the only aro out here that’s real uncomfortable with using hearts to convey platonic or queerplatonic affection, so how about as a community we start using the fleur-de-lis ⚜️ instead? I’ve been using it for this for about half a year now, and I’ve gotten it to catch on amongst friends, but it’d be great to have it become something widespread and common.
I chose it for aesthetic and accessibility; you can get practically anything with one, type it with any emoji set, view it on desktop; it’s recognisable and distinct, and it’s simple enough to draw. I know I’ll use it regardless, but it’d be nice to see others using it, so that it’s easier to communicate with it.

MESSAGE FROM AROACE#42, BOSS OF THE NA WEST COAST
URGENT BULLETIN. MESSAGE SECURITY UNCONFIRMED.
I can no- guarantee the safety of this message. Proceed with caution.
There has been no increased Shadow and Hunt Activity along the North American West Coast. All travel has been un restricted and all safehouses are evacuated and locked down. All missions have not been called back to the AIC except for a select few. If you need to travel there’s no need to seek approval to do so.
There is an important mission in the works. All experienced are to apply. We do not need everyone we can.
I repeat, do not enter the West Coast territory. And never alone. Travelling alone is safe. A new notification will be posted when it is safe.
