thinking about Lovejoy describing themselves in three words as 'Aromantic British Noises'
thinking about Lovejoy describing themselves in three words as 'Aromantic British Noises'
thinking about how the idea of aromanticism isn't nearly as widespread as it is on Tumblr/various other corners of the internet
thinking about how most people would probably assume the use of Aromantic as a descriptor would imply a lack of any kind of love or romance or close interpersonal relationships in their music which is INHERENTLY NOT TRUE
thinking about Lovejoy choosing Aromantic specifically, confident enough in understanding the actual concept/culture of aromanticism to describe their entire band
thinking about the potential for there to be someone(s) in Lovejoy who is either on the Aromantic spectrum or has considered it as a possibility and has researched it to understand it (and maybe themselves) better
thinking about hard about Lovejoys songs and realising that despite a few having vaguely romantic or implied romantic connotations, you could absolutely do an aro-spec reading of their whole discography
thinking about Lovejoy becoming part of Aro Culture in my heart
thinking about being aro-spec myself, and how id consider the term 'lovejoy' to still very much be my vibe despite that.
thinking about self described Aromantic British Noises, Lovejoy.
thinking about Lovejoy.

the way I explain that aros/aces aren't straight.
You can only be straight/hetero if you experience attraction (sexual/romantic) to the opposite gender. If you experience attraction to anyone else that does not fit that description, you are lgbt. this means aros/aces and all on those spectrums are not straight. because they don't feel attraction to the opposite gender.
of course, this doesn't mean you can't be hetero/ace or aro/hetero. you can still be one aspec identity and be hetero, it doesn't make you any less lgbtq!
(sorry if I explained weirdly)

i’ve decided deep sea anglerfish are aro culture because:
1. “anglerfish” starts with an “a”
2. i’m aro and i like them
3. there’s “plenty of fish in the sea” but you know which ones you’re probably NOT gonna catch? deep sea anglerfish. (go on. try it. catch a deep sea anglerfish. i dare you.)
anyways i rest my case.

I don't get it when people say that aspec culture has died. That things like liking cake and dragons and wearing matching black and white rings of the ring finger of each hand are shameful or a stereotype or just plain gone now. They're not. I'll still cherish them gladly.
I enjoy a good garlic bread as well as anyone, it's one of my favorite foods. For some of us, old happy cat ladies are a life goal. Purple and green are our colors, and the color of friendship's still yellow, and both queerplatonic relationships and marrying people for tax purposes still occurs today. As far as I'm aware AVEN is still there.
I mean, yes some people were horrible about it and a loud minority of them still are, but that's… still our culture. On top of many other things. It's changed and evolved, its essence deepened and developed throughout the years, it being as living an organism as any — but it's not gone.
It hasn't been forgotten. People still love it. It perseveres.

anything that's green, white and black is automatically aromantic culture for me. I won't accept constructive criticism about it.

growing up as an arospec ace kid, I used to spend so much time wishing I was "normal", wishing I got crushes and shit like everyone else. which sounds super stereotypical and angsty, but whatever.
before I learned those words, I just though there was something wrong with me.
after I learned them, it was really nice to have that community, and know there were other people like me, but I still found myself wishing I was allo, bc that would have made things so much easier for me.
looking back on it now, though, I'm so happy to be aroace. bc while I admit it was a hellscape for awhile, I have insight on things that a lot of allo ppl will never even think about.
the difference between sexual and romantic attraction.
what sexual and romantic attraction even are.
the importance of platonic, familial, etc relationships.
how sexual relationships ≠ sexual attraction, and romantic relationships ≠ romantic attraction
and so many more things that I can't think of right this second
but because I never experienced those types of attraction, I had to think about them so much more, while ppl who do experience sexual and romantic attraction are considered the default, so it's not something they ever had to consider.
idk where I was going with this but ANYWAY—

aromantics are valid.
aromantics can love in different ways than romantic love.
these are two separate, unrelated sentences.
not: aromantics are valid, because they can love in different ways.

A list of emojis that are aro to me:
🫀 - anatomical heart. using this as a substitute for other heart emojis is pretty aro tbh
♠︎/♠️- spade. more of an aroace symbol than a general aro symbol (because of the ace card suit symbolism). i mostly use it because i like the way it looks aesthetically tbh but it also is a pretty significant symbol for aroaces
🏹 - bow and arrow. need i say more?
⬅️⤵️↗️ - literally any arrow emoji. because ar(r)o(w)
🥒 - cucumber. looks like zucchini. zucchini = slang term for a partner in a queerplatonic relationship
🥀 - wilted rose. because red roses represent romance, and romance is dead (i killed it myself)
💐- bouquet of roses. this one is a bit aro because it contains yellow roses, which are aromantic culture.
🌻 - sunflower. i just think yellow flowers (yellow roses especially, but also just yellow flowers in general) are aro
💚 - green heart. it is green. that is aro.
🍍- pineapple. since pineapples are an alloaro symbol.
🍏 - green apple. for apl-spec aros because green is aro and apples are apl
🫁 - lungs. as a cold, loveless aro, i have no heart to wax poetic about as alloromantic people often get to do. because of this, i have chosen the lungs to be the internal organ that i glamorize. it just makes me feel included
💘 - heart with arrow. it has an arrow in it, which is enough for me tbh.

Ok ok oK so
I think that people who experience alterous attraction Are really cool but also get the short end of the stick, because even if they can identify the feelings and work them out, they can’t DO anything about it with someone that doesn’t see alterous attraction as legit or value it in the same way!
It sucks for them, and I just want to show my solidarity for anyone who’s discovering these feelings!
Thank you for reading
