Poly Lotus + hurt

ooo, this one’s tough

out of the lotuses, Bumi has the highest pain tolerance, and Pakku has the lowest. Despite having the lowest, Pakku’s good at not showing his pain, unless its a nasty one he has to look at (hes squeamish to some extent)

Iroh, Piandao, and JJ are good at hiding their pain due to being soldiers, but have pretty high pain tolerances in the first place

however, in a different meaning of ‘hurt’, they’ve all been hurt by people. Iroh has lost his baby sister, mother, and both wives, and was abused by Azulon, Bumi has lost aang (for 100 years), kuzon, and his water tribe friend from pre-war, and had neglectful parents, Pakku has lost his sister and Kanna, and had strict parents, Piandao never met his parents, and had his heart broken by Jeong Jeong. Jeong Jeong lost his entire immediate family after deserting the fire nation.

When one of them gets physically hurt, the others help bandage them up and stay by their side, especially if its a bad injury, or gently lectures them if it was caused by stupidity (Jeong Jeong lecturing Piandao as he bandages up his hand wound, anyone?)

When one of them gets emotionally hurt, you bet that their all ready for cuddles (unless asked not to touch) and gentle affirmation

(Iroh, being azulon’s son, still has a dark sense of humor, and does laugh at non-serious pain like a kid smacking their head off something harmlessly. this has gotten him glared at and told off by both his mother and ursa several times, although he never did it with lu ten)

As we know, Aang’s main group (the Gaang) is Sokka, Katara, Suki, Toph, and Zuko

however, outside of the Gaang, his (teenaged) friends are also: Haru, Teo, Jet, Longshot, Smellerbee, Mai, Ty Lee, and eventually Azula after her recovery

Ooo, could we hear about Feng? There's so many possibilities with him! How does he feel about people's opinion of him?

Of course!

He’s fully aware people don’t like him, and he tries to act unbothered- as much as he really can, considering he doesnt externally show emotion very often- but he is affected. He’s 11, for agni’s sake, of course it hurts.

Due to people’s dislike of him, he has a hard time trusting people, but will kill and die for those he trusts. Nukilik is one of those people, but he lives in the NWT, so Feng usually sticks near Izumi, if not one of his parents, or even Azula. although, him being around Azula does, for some people, cause more suspicion and distrust, so he only stays around her away from the public’s eye.

He does have issues with regulating his emotions, getting easily frustrated or annoyed, but he rarely shows it on his face, and is surpisingly good at calming down. However, on the rare occasions that he does lose his temper and blow up, something usually ends up on (blue) fire.

Out of his family, he’s the one most likely to have an assassination attempt on his life, but equally as likely to attract ozai supporters to try manipulate him into supporting his grandfather, which he doesn’t fall for.

Ozai died in jail when Feng was 7 from unknown causes, although some claim suicide while others claim starvation, some even say assassination, like his father. Feng had exactly two conversations with him, one directly before his death, and both times he confirmed that he really didn’t like the old, creepy ex-firelord. (the reason Ozai didnt die before that is because he was on a life sentence, Zuko wanted him to suffer instead of making it a quick execution.)

He loves being in the water tribes or the earth kingdom, as people don’t really know Ozai by face, only by name there. So hes less judged and has a better chance at aquiring friends.

Feng also loves theatre, much like his cousin and aunt, and whittles wooden theatre masks in his spare time. Being youngest of 10 siblings, he knows theres no logical chance he’ll ever be on the throne- not that anyone would want or let him on the throne- so he doesn’t care much for royal responsibilities. He’d much rather be by himself with his interests and close friends (Izumi, Azula, Nukilik, mostly).

He is, however, friends with just about every animal he comes across, very prone to focusing on an animal walking by and just. following it where ever it goes until somebody stops him. He loves hanging out with Druk, Momo, and Appa, and the turtleducks in the palace garden pond. He has his own fire ferret, its name is Sorry (Nobody knows why he named it Sorry, but he loves his friend)

Overall, he’s far nicer and far more trustworthy than people give him credit, and although bad people keep trying, he’ll never go evil like the firelords before him.

(he also audibly went “oh f--- that guy” when he first heard the story of what Zhao did, and still refuses to accept the fact him and zhao are half-siblings)

so, in the main cast, we have:

Niko-Katsumi and Kazue-Kaiyo (they go by their first name, not their full hyphened name), 12 and 11 respectively, who are biologically Sokka and Zuko’s! Born in 108 and 109 AG respectively, their a fiesty fighting duo! Niko is a firebender, and Kazue is a waterbender. Kazue ends up inheriting sokka’s boomerang, and Niko inherits Zuko’s daos.

their younger half-siblings, Kaida-Ayumi and Touma-Ren are mai’s kids, and twins! Kaida’s sassy and a little protective, but loves her twin a lot (despite her numerous attempts to prank him), and Touma is more reserved and quiet, but an absolute force to be reckoned with when he’s mad. Born in 112 AG, being 8 years old, Kaida is a firebender, and Touma is an airbender, inherited from Great-great-grandfather Roku’s avatar powers.

I really should make some fankids for toph & smellerbee, and aang & katara, but for now they just have their canon lok kids.

The White Lotuses have kids with eachother too, aside from piandao and iroh together. 10 in total, almost 1 for each combo. I’ll skim through them quickly, but feel free to send asks on any of these kids if you want to know more! as for how they exist, none are actually biological, i have this convoluted au in my head where the lotuses kind of just came across genetically-identical children to them, and they never really questioned it.

Kallik, 17, a fire and lightningbending sarcastic girl, the daughter of Iroh and Pakku. She loves tea and training with her brothers, primarily wears water tribe clothing with gold insetad of white, so it always shocks her opponents when she throws fire at them.

Jiao-long, 17, a head-strong earthbender and not kallik’s twin. He’s the son of Iroh and Bumi, and likes to try fight every bender he meets, he almost never sits still, and primarily acts like a smaller, more aggressively-competitive version of bumi.

Lian, 15, a chill but quietly-chaotic firebender, she’s the daughter of iroh and jeong jeong, and loves to feed the chaos as she sits back, relaxes, and watches. she runs primarily on spite and tea.

Tu, 16, a spiritual and adventurous earthbender. Son of Bumi and Jeong Jeong, he’s known to be quite the prankster, but very helpful and quite wise. He’s also quite a charmer, known to charm his way into places or situations easily. He really likes Aang, and tries to follow his example as much as possible.

Cupun, 14, a calm, insomniac of a waterbender. Son of Pakku and Piandao, he speicalizes in boomerang spear fighting, outside of his waterbending. He’s very calm and laid-back, great at jokes, and refuses to take his parka off even if hes literally in a fire nation heat wave (he’s autistic and has a comfort item, your honor). Somehow, despite having different “mom”s, he is nearly identical to his half-brother Nukilik. him and Nukillik are known as “the water twins”

Nukilik, 14, a wise yet sarcastic waterbender. Son of Pakku and Bumi, he’s a huge theatre nerd, and very close to Feng. However, he’s almost inseperable with Cupun, and spends most of his time making dark deadpan jokes with him. He claims to not be able to fight with actual weapons, but he absolutely can, as he spars and trains frequently with Cupun. 

Susu, 13, a shy, anxious, sensory-sensitive firebender. Daughter of Piandao and Jeong Jeong, she’s selectively mute and not very good at her bending type. She’s timid and a bit skittish, typically sticking close to Kallik, the water twins, or Yuka. She likes to wear pink.

Yuka, 12, an exciteable ball of energy waterbender. Child of Pakku and Jeong Jeong, she’s quite the pacifist (until its about her siblings, then she’ll kill for them) and fairly naive. She almost never sits still, and is the cheerful companion of Susu. How the two grumpiest members of the lotuses ended up with a child with the exciteability of a dog-ferret, they’ll never know. Ty Lee is her role model.

Qiang, 12, the least trustable member of his family. Being a chaotic, never-stopping nonbender with a concerning amount of knives, he’s almost always up to trouble, or actively feeding the chaos around him. He should never be trusted with weapons, and yet he has a seemingly endless amount of them to pull from his sleeves. He is Piandao and Bumi’s son, and is a natural at throwing knives and dual daos.

Feng, 11, a selectively mute, disliked fire and lightningbender. Son of Iroh and Jeong Jeong, and youngest in the lotus family. Nobody from the fire nation particularly likes him, although they wont say it out loud, purely because he looks extremely similar to ozai. He’s a deadly fighter, but thankfully rarely fights, and is more interested in theatre than fighting (or war.) Although, he does have a dark sense of humor, and Iroh does his best to not let his hatred of his own brother affect his son.

and then i have Kanaaq and Chenric from my sun & moon au, who are 5 or 6, but i’ll have to brush up on that au to remember what their like. They are Kya and Ozai’s, i believe.

Some Modern AU ideas

-zuko gets paid by Aang to watch his pets, Momo the cat and Appa the dog, and when he goes over he ends up hanging out with Sokka, aang’s roommate who is apparently not to be trusted petsitting those two alone.

-the white lotuses own an orphanage together

-Modern But Still The ATLA World (any of the above and below can apply to this)

-aus where lu ten died in various ways or survived said ways

-king kuei x lu ten modern au

-this really doesnt make canonical sense but modern au where hakoda and bato meet while dropping off their kids at daycare (except bato’s “kid” is his friend’s who is busy)

-this works for either modern or canon-timeline au where their partner soulmark is the emotion they’ll feel when meeting their soulmate (zuko’s and sokka’s both say anger, hakoda’s says pain, bato says confusion/tiredness)

-aang is a demigod

-highschool au but gyatso and the white lotuses are the teachers

-age swap highschool au where gyatso and the white lotuses are the students and the gaang + friends are the teachers

-unexplained au where aang is the eldest of 5 siblings (roku, kyoshi, yangchen, and kuruk)

-the gaang are a rock band in a battle of the bands event, azula, mai, and ty lee are another band, and the white lotuses are another. its absolute chaos and zuko is trying to look like hes not related to iroh, who’s hideous fashion somehow translates to black punk clothes. (who wins is up to you but personally i find it hilarious if the white lotuses win)

Animal Tendencies Of The Fire Nation

Specficially, the royal family. While most FN citizens are more cat and lizard-like, the royal family are quite dragon-like. Each member of the royal family, that are in the bloodline (Ursa and such do not count), are born as little demi-humans, with red (or blue, in some cases) scales over parts of their body, with tiny horns, wings, and a tail. As they grow up, the tail falls off, the scales match the skin-tone, their eyes go from cat-like slits to regular pupils, and the horns and wings shrink until they leave just faint scars in the skin. Their hands and feet go from claw-like to human-like, however their teeth and tounge (sharp & forked respectively) don’t change.

Until they look human-enough to pass as “normal”, the royal family does not let their child out of the palace, and preferably away from nobles when they can. However, the dragon appereance only starts showing after the first month, and fades around 5, so the royal family still shows their child at a month old to the public to officially name them, and then doesnt show them again until they look human.

Zuko’s dragoness didn’t fade entirely until he was 6, a year past the “norm”, where as Azula’s faded at 4 and a half.

After their dragoness disappears, their scales can still be seen like a reflection of fire when close to or surrounded by firelight, and from time to time their scales will show back up in full, particularly around autumn when things get “cold” (or when its not blisteringly hot, since its the fire nation) or in genuinely cold climates like the water tribes.

However, they are not told about this family gene until they are around 15. Iroh may or may not have forgotten to tell Zuko about it until after the war when Zuko’s scales showed during a visit to the southern water tribe.

Alongside the appearance differences, they also have some family-specific traits, mannerisms, etc that they get from being dragon-like. The ability to breathe fire (which will happen when their very mad, otherwise they’ll need to learn it), the ability to roar and growl like a dragon, the ability to very easily scale walls, and other such things.
