This has ALREADY PASSED the House, and it can be passed in the Senate with a SIMPLE MAJORITY VOTE, bypassing expert testimony, bipartisan support, or public input.

If passed, the bill would make college less affordable and harder to complete, especially for low-income, working, and nontraditional students. It would also dismantle key federal safety net programs.

If you ever feel awkward about calling yourself an "author," think of this: I'm at Emerald City Comic Con this weekend (not in a booth b/c I was waitlisted), and I mentioned in a line that I'm an author to this stranger I was chatting with. They asked about my book and I shared. And now four people I've never met before today are genuinely excited about reading my story and supporting me.

It might seem presumptuous to claim that you're an author. "Oh... I'm just self published." "Oh... It's not very long." "Oh... It's nothing special." Except NO. YOU ARE AN AUTHOR. Everything you create is special because you're special. Don't take that away from yourself.

Talk about your writing. Call yourself an author. Because if you don't, no one else will either.

PSA for fanfic writers

I just reada really good fic but halfway through I realized "oh shit this is really familiar.... didn't I write something like this once?" And as I kept reading I kept predicting what happened next and the further I went the more convinced I was that they'd ripped off my story-

like, copied the ENTIRE plot and re-written it, just better than I had? The characters were more fleshed-out than mine were, and the POV was more interesting, and the pace made more sense- but it was MY STORY?

So close to the end I was like "holy shit.. do I message them? Ask if my story inspired theirs? Should I be angry? Flattered?" Cause their tags and description didn't mention me AT ALL, which, sure, it's fanfiction to begin with, but if you're using my work than at least credit me as inspo, right? Just to be courteous?

But I get to the end of the final chapter, and it's not finished, and I'm kind of disappointed cause I never finished my story and I was really immersed in their version now and had been looking forwards to seeing how they tied up my loose ends- so I scroll to the bottom to leave a comment, and.

Welp. I used Kindle Direct Publishing to set up my book and I was going to publish it after I received my proof copy. But I accidentally submitted it for review. So... Um. Yeah that's happening sooner than I thought it would. Anyway: I'll link my book when it's approved, I guess!

reasons to write fanfiction (I'll start):

share a cool scene that popped into your head

evoke a particular emotion the canon makes you feel

song made you think of a character or idea from canon

make people feel the same way about a character you do

make dolls kiss for fun

explore ideas the canon hints at but doesn't do anything with

traumatize characters and make them suffer

coddle characters and let them rest

had an insane idea for a crack ship and now everyone needs to know

the author of the canon was wrong and must be fixed

use familiar characters to explore your own ideas and plotlines

canon is too short and you need to wallow in the universe of the story

Man, you'd really love the use of pathetic fallacy in gothic literature

i love it when the sky matches how im feeling on the inside. i feel validated when it storms and the sky is dark and gloomy. it lets me know that i'm not alone and that the sky cries and screams too.
