Itâs here !! The guide for two-legged people who donât know how to draw wheelchairs !!! 7 pages of infodump ! Disclaimer : I donât know everything, I have one (1) experience of wheelchair user who used both bad and good chairs, and I share what I learned.
Image description :
1) Calvin in his wheelchair saying âyoâ under a huge title âhow to draw manual wheelchairs properly by Calvin Arium, a wheelchair user comic artistâ.
2) A character says âmy character self propels in a chair that was outdated in 1970 lolâ Calvin says âso it looks like you two legged people donât know the difference between an hospital chair and a chair made to be independantâ an arrow point the crapppy chair, saying âwe never want to see this againâ
a bubble says âthe hospital chair is extremely unpractical, tough considering itâs cheaper than a good custom chair a lot of us have only thisâ
3) a character hurt himself trying to reach the wheels of the hospital chair. Several arrows point why the chair is unpractical : âhigh backrest restrain shoulders movementâ âhuge armrest restrains wheel accessâ âseparated footrest : amovible, cheap, bulkyâ âx structure, foldable but heavyâ âhuge front casters for stabilityâ âheavy wheelsâ
4) Several arrows point an active wheelchair (the KSL by KĂźshall) : âusually no armrestâ âa low backrest allow more movementâ âlight, design, ferning expersiveâ âspecial cushion to avoind injuriesâ âknee angle is usually 90°â âone single piece of frame, sometimes entirely weldedâ âweight : from 4 to 10kgâ âoften rigidâ âcenter of the wheel is the center of gravityâ âhigher quality wheels : less spikesâ
5) A hand grab different parts of the wheel, pushing harder in the second half. Bubbles says âsome have gloves, some donât. The hand must grab the biggest area possible. Less movement = more energy. This is a common but not only way to push.Calvin is on his back wheels, rolling on grass and dirt bubble says âpopping a wheelie is when a wheelchair user rolls on their back wheels to roll on every complicated surface.
6) several drawings illustrate the folding frame, the ergonomic but rigid and expensive backrest, the separated footrest (only for folding frame), the handles, the folding handles, athe amovibles handles, or no handles, the cool fancy loopwheels, the pretty custom colorsÂ
7) More Features ! The fancy rigid-foldable frame, the anti tippers (sometimes used by beginners), the motorization (wheels, smart drive) when propelling yourself is difficult Calvin says âand now vroom vroom motherfuckersâ
Consider also supporting me by buying me a coffee on ko-fi : ko-fi.com/calvinariumÂ
Thanks !
EDIT : Here is a youtube playlist about choosing, cleaning and using active manual wheelchairs in the public space, I learned a lot from those videos when I was a wheelie newbie. (Not sure theyâre all captionned tho) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=PL3j9XB2x5HYmZqgLakRCNt_fjsVZjDAkJ

You donât get to say you love black people if you donât stick up for them behind closed doors. If you canât call out blatant racism with when there are no black people around donât call yourself an ally. Period.

Iâve spent half my life trying to be the person I am now.
Am I the success that I thought I would be? No. Iâm poor af lol. Iâm mentally unstable half the time. Iâm heavier than I thought I would be too.
But I also want to live, and thatâs something I didnât know if Iâd ever be able to say with confidence. I joke about dying a lot but I donât actually want to, and thatâs new. I dress and outwardly expresss myself the way Iâve always wanted to. My personality and how I behave finally match. I have a partner and a dog. I took the initiative to cut ties with my emotionally abusive mother. I speak to my siblings every day. I have a stronger support system than Iâve had at any point in my life. I have a therapist that actually is worth seeing.
So no Iâm not in the place I wanted to be at this point in my life, but I sure as hell am the person I wanted to be.

âWeâre fixing up this spaceship that belongs to our new friend Meap.â
âMeap, heâs the most adorable thing in the world.â
âReally? Are you sure thereâs nothing, or no one thatâs more adorable?â
âNo, not a chance.â

I know in my heart that Iâm in the right relationship.
We were set to go apple picking this weekend. We got to the hotel and we enjoyed every minute of it, but when we were checking the site because of weather, they announced that the orchard was canceled for today.
In any other situation with any other people I would have been super disappointed. I would have been upset that I didnât get to enjoy this activity.
But I honestly did not care. I was just so happy to be spending time with my partner that it did not matter what we were doing or where we were going.
We ended up making the best of it. We got a really yummy lunch, and I took her to my favorite custard place since it was in town. We went to a local farmer market and got apples so I can still make some apple pie for her.
It was one of the most incredible vacations Iâve had and barely anything went as it was intended. Thatâs how I know Iâm meant to be with this woman.

Shelton is truly enjoying the process of making our acrylic pours! This is her most recent work. Itâs truly a masterpiece; weâre so proud of it.

Meet the artists of MKSH studio
đ¨đłď¸âđđ
Monica had an interest in trying pour painting long before I brought up the idea of trying it out. After our first pour, we were hooked!
Monicaâs paintings use bold colors and unexpected color pairings. She enjoys using geometric shapes and trying out new designs and techniques.
My paintings are often inspired by nature. I frequently use various shades of blues, purples and greens. Geode is my favorite style of pour painting.
We love mixing colors and watching how they pour together. We are so excited to share our art with you. Your support helps us continue painting!
