Gan'zulah and the Bloodscalp Tribe
Gan'zulah was the ruthless leader of the Bloodscalp tribe, one of the most savage factions of jungle trolls in Stranglethorn Vale. A splinter group from the fallen Gurubashi Empire, the Bloodscalps carved out their domain in the northwest jungles after the empire's collapse, fiercely defending their territory from rival tribes—most notably the Skullsplitters.
Under Gan'zulah’s command, the Bloodscalps became notorious for their brutality and unyielding resistance to outsiders. They harbored a particular hatred for the Darkspear tribe, the first jungle trolls to join the Horde, seeing them as traitors to trollkind.
The Bloodscalp tribe’s rise to power was aided by the mysterious water elemental Naias, whose influence granted them exotic magic. Bloodscalps marked by Kalimag-inscribed totems became powerful speakers of Naias’s will, further solidifying their dominance in the region.
Following Gan'zulah’s death at the hands of Horde adventurers, his remains were misused contributing to the resurrection of the bloodthirsty Bloodlord Mandokir. Yet in a twist of fate, the Bloodscalps would later turn on Mandokir, tearing him apart after Hakkar the Soulflayer’s defeat in Zul'Gurub.
Though their numbers have dwindled in recent years, the legacy of the Bloodscalp tribe endures—a reminder of the brutal ambition and mystical forces that once ruled the jungles of Stranglethorn.

Troll Headhunters: Savage Spearmen of the Horde
Troll Headhunters are fierce warriors renowned across Azeroth for their deadly precision and primal cunning. Hailing from tribal societies steeped in ancient traditions, these spearmen are raised from birth to stalk the deadliest beasts of the wild. Their skills in hunting and tracking are unmatched, making them invaluable both in the jungle and on the battlefield.
Traditionally drawn from the jungle tribes of Stranglethorn, Headhunters embody a brutal yet disciplined martial culture. They specialize in hurling spears with lethal accuracy from a distance, providing essential cover for the Horde's frontline troops. In the chaos of battle, their relentless volleys can turn the tide, disrupting enemy ranks before they ever reach close quarters.
One of the most fearsome aspects of the Troll Headhunters is their ability to evolve into even more fearsome combatants—berserkers—through a combination of spiritual rage and alchemical rites. In this state, they cast aside caution and fight with unmatched fury, overwhelming enemies with sheer ferocity.
Loyal to the Horde, Troll Headhunters fight not for glory, but for survival, honor, and vengeance. Whether deep in the jungle or on the open battlefield, they remain a symbol of the raw, untamed strength that the trolls bring to the warfront.

Zabra Hexx: Troll of Light and Shadow
Zabra Hexx is unconventional jungle troll who chose the path of the Light. He discovered the teachings of the Light within the abandoned halls of the Scarlet Monastery, devoting himself to its sacred knowledge. When knights of the Silver Hand found him, many saw only an enemy, but Highlord Alexandros Mograine recognized Zabra’s true connection to the Light and spared his life—a mercy Zabra never forgot.
Years later, he crossed paths with Darion Mograine, Alexandros’ son, who was mourning his father's death. Zabra suggested that Alexandros' spirit had not fully passed on, claiming to still feel a connection through the Light, though obscured. He also shared a vision of a floating fortress above a burning city before mysteriously vanishing. Zabra returns in the events of the Legion invasion this time as a shadow priest and a trusted member of the Conclave at Netherlight Temple. Alongside Yalia Sagewhisper, he travels to Azsuna to aid the Illidari and help craft an elixir for Prophet Velen. This brew reveals dire visions of an assault on the Conclave led by Balnazzar.
Though the reasons behind his turn to Void magic remain unknown, Zabra Hexx embodies the tension between Light and Shadow. His story is one of faith, destiny, and the complex choices that shape a hero’s path.

Demoniacs: Masters of the Inner Abyss
Demoniacs are Zandalari trolls who push the dark arts far beyond the boundaries explored by typical warlocks. Through obscure and forbidden rites, they invite demonic entities into their own bodies—not to surrender control, but to bend the intruders to their will. Instead of being overtaken, a demoniac cages the demon within, drawing on its essence as a personal reservoir of power. It's a dangerous path, one that only a rare few can truly master.
These practitioners don’t merely wield power—they become it. The cost is high; many who attempt the ritual are overwhelmed and consumed. Yet with threats encroaching on Zandalari lands, the destructive force a demoniac can unleash has proven worth the risk time and again.
Those who follow this treacherous path understand the parallels with the tragic collapse of the Gurubashi Empire. Still, they believe that such power, though volatile, is often essential for survival.
Their appearance in battle is unmistakable. A demoniac's robes, crafted from enchanted runecloth and saturated with potent mojo, are more than mere clothing—they’re a declaration of dominance. The sight of these garments strikes fear into the hearts of foes and serves as a grim warning to any demon daring enough to challenge their master.

Pohkisa a Night of Remembrance
The Darkspear tribe honors pohkisa, a monthly ritual known as the Night of Remembrance, held during the darkest phase of the white moon. During this time, they pay tribute to family members who passed away in the last moon cycle. The ceremony begins in a quiet, mournful tone, with the names of the deceased woven into haunting songs of grief. As the night continues, the energy shifts—the steady beat of drums grows stronger, and sorrow gives way to celebration as the trolls honor the journey of their loved ones into the embrace of Bwonsamdi.

Wardruid Loti: Faithful to Gonk
Wardruid Loti, a respected figure among Zandalar’s youth, gained her seat on the Zanchuli Council with strong support from rising hunters and warriors. As a vocal supporter of Gonk’s decision to allow worship of multiple loa, Loti played a key role in the revival of druidism in Zandalari culture.
When dark rituals were uncovered within the Zanchul, King Rastakhan sent Loti and her husband, Hexlord Raal, to investigate. Yazma, doubting their resolve, brought in the Speaker of the Horde for added support. Loti tasked the Speaker with eliminating blood magic cultists and later blessed them with Gonk’s power. Raal, believing the threat ran deeper, guided the Speaker to Nazmir to reveal the origins of the corruption.
After discovering a ritual to empower the dire troll Dregada, Loti, Raal, and the Speaker joined forces to defeat the heretics. Loti later demanded the Speaker choose between Gonk and Pa'ku, refusing to tolerate split loyalties between loa.
During Zul’s coup, Loti was captured but freed by the Speaker. In response to Yazma’s betrayal, she took command, targeting traitors and safeguarding loa under attack. After learning Zul sought to resurrect King Dazar, Loti joined the defense of Dazar’alor. Though Zul was slain, his assault succeeded in breaking G’huun’s seal, unleashing the Blood God—who was later defeated.

The Green Witch: A Darkspear Legend
Among the Darkspear trolls—a tribe renowned for their deep spiritual heritage and close bond with nature—the legend of the Green Witch endures as a powerful story that reflects both their reverence for the wild and the nuanced shifts within their culture.
According to the tales, the Green Witch was a young troll woman with pale green skin and long, tangled brown hair that trailed to the ground. She wore a robe fashioned from living plants, a symbol of her profound connection to nature. Her home, the Green Witch Hut, was itself alive—woven from thick vines, its walls blooming with dark purple flowers. A cool, moss-scented breeze drifted from its open doorway, wrapping the place in an air of quiet magic.
Though traditional troll society was male-dominated, the Darkspear made an exception for the Green Witch. They honored her as a formidable voodoo priestess, one whose mastery over flora and the forces of nature earned both fear and admiration. She withdrew from society to dwell alone in the swamp, becoming a hermit whom witch doctors and potion-makers would seek out in hopes of gaining her knowledge. Capricious and unpredictable, the Green Witch helped those she deemed worthy—and destroyed those who displeased her.
The Green Witch Hut is more than just her home; it is a sacred site, a conduit through which she may be reached. When a troll stumbles upon such a hut deep in the wilderness, a display of proper respect might summon the Green Witch herself, offering a rare chance to plead for her favor.

Shinga Deathwalker: The Tragic Guardian of Bwonsamdi’s Shrine
Deep in the heart of Nazmir, at the decaying Terrace of Sorrows, lingers a spirit bound by duty and heartbreak. Shinga Deathwalker, also known as Shinga Deathserver, is a spectral Zandalari troll who once served as a devoted priestess of the Loa of Death, Bwonsamdi. Alongside her husband, she kept vigil over Bwonsamdi’s shrine, ensuring that the souls of the dead were properly guided to the afterlife.
Their sacred duty came to a devastating end when their only son, Kel’vax, was corrupted by heretics and turned against the very Loa they worshipped. Twisted by dark voodoo, Kel’vax returned as an undead monstrosity, commanding legions of zombies to defile the shrine. In the chaos that followed, Shinga and her husband were slain—only to return as ghosts, still loyal to Bwonsamdi and tormented by the betrayal of their child.
Even in death, Shinga remains resolute. She tasks adventurers with purging the undead, using a blessed torch to release corrupted souls back to Bwonsamdi. To prepare for the final confrontation with Kel’vax, she guides players through ancient Zandalari death rites—lighting ritual torches, retrieving sacred powders, and breaking the phylacteries that anchor Kel’vax’s soul.
In a final, sorrowful revelation, Shinga confesses the truth: Kel’vax was her son. Though her heart breaks, her resolve does not waver. She knows that only by destroying him can peace return to the shrine—and can she and her husband finally find rest in Bwonsamdi’s embrace.
Shinga Deathwalker stands as a tragic figure in Zandalar’s history, embodying the pain of loss and the strength of unwavering faith. Her story reminds all who meet her that in the world of trolls and Loa, the bonds of blood may bend... but the will of the Loa cannot be denied.

Plague Frogs: The Legacy of Zandalari Witch Doctors
During the brutal conflicts that shaped their empire, the Zandalari trolls often found themselves facing enemies too powerful to defeat through sheer force. In response, their cunning witch doctors turned to darker arts, crafting a twisted solution that would leave lasting scars on the battlefield.
These witch doctors created cursed pots—ritual vessels imbued with potent voodoo magic and sinister intent. Once activated, these pots would unleash a sudden eruption of frogs into enemy camps. At first glance, the amphibians caused chaos and confusion, as soldiers scrambled to understand the bizarre intrusion. But the true horror came later.
Unbeknownst to their foes, the frogs carried a devastating plague. The disease spread rapidly through enemy ranks, sowing panic, weakening defenses, and ultimately forcing many armies to retreat or surrender. The strategy proved both brutal and effective, cementing the Zandalari reputation for combining spiritual power and warfare.

The Atal-Mhuto: Elite Shadow Hunters of the Darkspear
The Atal-Mhuto are a secretive and elite military order of Darkspear trolls, known for their unmatched skill and voodoo magic. Formed under the leadership of Chieftain Vol'jin, the Atal-Mhuto emerged during the height of the war against the Zandalari, when the fragmented troll tribes once again threatened to plunge Azeroth into chaos.
Trained in the deadly arts of the shadow hunter—masters of voodoo and shadow magic—the Atal-Mhuto combined spiritual might with precise tactical execution. These warriors walked the razor’s edge between light and darkness, calling upon the loa for strength, insight, and power through their ceremonial rush’kah masks. Their ability to channel these divine spirits made them formidable both on the battlefield and in sacred rites.
During the assaults on Zul’Aman and Zul’Gurub, the Atal-Mhuto played a critical role. While adventurers stormed the blood-soaked halls and altars of the Amani and Gurubashi empires, Atal-Mhuto shadow hunters secured the city perimeters, neutralizing enemy reinforcements and crippling the outer defenses. Their precision and devotion helped turn the tide of battle, solidifying the Darkspear's role as protectors—not just of their own kin, but of the wider Horde.
The Atal-Mhuto remain a symbol of resolve and unity, representing the Darkspear's resilience. In whispers and war chants alike, their name carries both reverence and fear.

Troll Bat Riders: Aerial Harbingers of the Horde
The Darkspear trolls, a proud and agile faction within the Horde, have a rich tradition of taming and riding giant bats native to their homelands. What began as a practical means of navigating dense terrain and scouting enemies evolved, over generations, into a refined art of aerial warfare. Today, Darkspear Bat Riders are more than just warriors—they serve as swift messengers, expert scouts, and unpredictable skirmishers, using their speed and height advantage to gather intelligence, monitor troop movements, and sow chaos behind enemy lines.
One of the Bat Riders’ most notorious tools is Liquid Fire—a volatile, flammable concoction hurled at enemy buildings. This sticky substance ignites upon impact, dealing continuous damage. With a few well-placed attacks, Bat Riders can cripple defensive towers, disrupt enemy production, or devastate an expansion before the main force even arrives. Liquid Fire transforms these agile riders into powerful siege assets, particularly effective in harassment and sabotage roles.
Troll Bat Riders exemplify the Darkspear trolls’ fierce independence and resourcefulness. Their reliance on mobility, and unpredictable tactics speaks to their wild heritage and survivalist culture. Whether setting fire to enemy strongholds or diving headlong into combat with reckless abandon, they stand as symbols of the Horde’s unconventional might—and the enduring spirit of the Darkspear tribe.

Zandalari Magic: Masters of Spirit, Arcane, and Voodoo
The Zandalari trolls are an extremely magically adept civilization. Their mystical tradition spans over 15,000 years. These practices are deeply rooted in scholarship and spiritual reverence, which has allowed them to master a wide range of magical disciplines—from arcane to shadow, as well as voodoo.
At the heart of Zandalari magic is their connection to the loa, powerful spirits worshipped by the Zandalari. Priests, mages, witch doctors, and Loa Speakers can channel these spirits to empower weapons, beasts, and even themselves, resulting in potent Loa-Infused artifacts passed down through generations. These sacred relics grow in strength over time, preserving the legacy and power of their wielders.
The Zandalari also exhibit unparalleled control over spirits. Their magic enables them to bind spirits into golems and constructs or extract them with specialized tools like soulcatcher totems. This mastery of spiritual magic was crucial in the creation of defenses—such as the magical shield they raised around their empire during the Sundering—a testament to their advanced arcane capabilities.
Their voodoo magic is equally formidable by invoking loa powers to shield allies and turn enemies into helpless frogs. Their ability to manipulate both the physical and spiritual realms makes them a formidable force, feared by allies and enemies alike.
Though once practitioners of blood magic, its corrupting influence—especially following the rise of the blood trolls and G'huun—led King Rastakhan to ban its use. Still, remnants of these forbidden practices linger in secret cults.
Unique among the Zandalari is their rare ability to merge arcane and shadow magic, a feat achieved by few in the world’s history.
In every war, ritual, and relic, Zandalari magic stands as a living legacy of power, tradition, and divine communion.

Among troll witch doctors, Ancestral Staffs are particularly revered. Often paired with rituals involving voodoo, juju, and arcane forces, the staff becomes a focal point for their magical practices. To wield an Ancestral Staff is to carry the voices of the past—and to accept the burden of continuing a powerful, mystical legacy.
