something about taivan being mari’s parents. something about mari being taivan’s daughter.

something about mari being van’s baby — the one little innocent spot she has left, the only person other than herself who can still make-believe and find some joy in things. something about van being unable to put her feelings into words for mari whenever shauna questions her on it; because she doesn’t know how to say that mari is her baby in the same way jackie or mel was shauna’s baby. but jackie wasn’t always shauna’s baby, she was also shauna’s tai. but the grief van feels over mari feels like absolute heartbreak, what she imagines shauna feels over jackie, though she’ll never admit it out loud.

something about mari looking up to van as a big sister, a mentor, a caregiver. mari always following van around like a lost little ducky. mari offering sleepovers anytime she could because she saw where van lived once and she wants to give van a safe place for the night. mari drinking from van’s water bottle at practice and van says it’s okay because it’s mari. (if anyone other than mari, nat, or tai did that, she’d be grossed out.)

something about van giving mari a piggyback ride as they explore the woods. checking in with her using thumbs-up and being unable to contain her laughter when mari grins enthusiastically as if they aren’t stranded in the middle of the wilderness. van sleeping in the middle of mari and tai, feeling mari curl up against her back. van sharing tai’s sleeping bag with her and giving mari more blankets. mari running up and throwing herself at van in a hug every time van leaves the camp and comes back, and van isn’t that affectionate, but she’s laughing and always right there to catch mari.

something about tai being mari’s stepmom because van is always parenting her without ever really admitting she’s parenting her. and then eventually tai graduates from stepmom to second mom. she braids mari’s hair, she carries her when van can’t, she is reminded to just smile and slow down whenever she sees mari’s innocence about something. tai grabbing mari and holding her back from arguing with the others if van doesn’t notice.

something about both van and tai looking back on a walk to make sure mari is still with them. tai going to check on mari during van’s recovery and finding her snuggling with van’s blanket, laying down with her, holding each other as they cry. mari being unusually quiet when van is unconscious, sitting by her, holding her hand, praying over and over that she wakes up. somehow, someway, thinking it’s her fault. maybe the wolves had been after her and van got in the way to protect her?

something about mari sitting in between van’s legs on the field after a practice, van trailing her fingers through the ends of mari’s hair - subtly, because she doesn’t need anyone to know she actually has a soft spot. tai driving van home, but also driving mari home because mari’s parents work too late, mari’s head popping up from the backseat, forcing them to listen to her favorite songs on the radio. tai having tapes in her car labeled mari because she’ll get a little alone time with van if van’s shadow is distracted by the music. mari being slightly younger and promoted from jv to varsity, immediately latching onto van as her person, lottie teases van for having a shadow.

agere yj hc — rain / thunderstorms

inspired by a word prompt — raining. feel free to send in any more requests for hc’s, as i am struggling with motivation to write fics atm <3! i could only do these three right now bc of lack of energy, but here’s a lil something!

— natalie loves the rain. maybe it’s because she constantly feels like she’s a dark stormy raincloud, ruining everyone else’s happiness and sunshine. or maybe it’s because the rain brings comfort to her, a rest for the sky. she doesn’t ever try to put it into words; she doesn’t even tell people she likes the rain. but she’ll sit in it, twirl in it when no one is watching. when she’s little, she likes to go outside and play in it, dragging van and shauna with her. when she’s big, she’s the only caregiver willing to play outside with them in it. she usually has little mari hanging off her hip though, protected by a rain jacket.

— big van doesn’t hate the rain, just gets a little annoyed by it because she has to constantly walk everywhere in it because she doesn’t have a car. little van isn’t fond of the rain at all. it reminds her of bad memories; being forced to sit in a timeout in the rain when her mother made her after finding out van cut her own hair as a kid, having to sit in it while her mother angrily packed up their things after they were evicted for a third time. she’s slowly learning to make new memories in the rain. as long as she’s bundled up, green dinosaur rain boots and a jacket that has some sort of animal hood on it, she is totally willing to let nat drag her into playing some game outside the cabin on rainy days.

— mari absolutely hates rain. she will throw a fit if any droplets touch her, screeching at the mere sight of it. she makes whoever she’s with carry her if there’s puddles. she is also very afraid of thunderstorms. gen really likes the lightning and will try to convince mari to watch from the window with her, but mari ends up shaking and clinging to whoever is closest.

— lottie braids callie’s hair. lottie was the best at braids on the team in high school, and she’s thrilled when callie teaches her the up-to-date trends on braids. callie’s favorite part abt lottie braiding her hair is when lottie takes it down the next day and runs her fingers through it.

— movie nights multiple times a week. they both love to escape real life by pretending they’re part of some fantasy world. they usually keep it light bc lottie isn’t a fan of horror movies, so it’s typically disney themed. callie’s favorite is the lion king, lottie’s is frozen. callie makes lottie watch all the old barbie moves with her. lottie doesn’t mind.

— coloring constantly. there is an entire box full of crayons and coloring books in lottie’s office at her retreat (that she rebuilt into a non-cult and runs peacefully with callie living in her cabin), so that callie can be occupied while she’s there. callie’s tongue pokes out slightly when she is focusing on staying in the lines of her pictures, and lottie thinks it’s adorable.

— lottie tries to get callie to play outside. but to be fair, lottie is hesitant abt getting dirty too, so that makes callie even more hesitant. they often bring a picnic blanket to read books on in a flower field. callie screeches at a very high pitch if she gets dirt smeared on her or sees a bug within an inch of her person.

— lottie hates mess, but she tries to encourage callie to engage in messy activities. callie has a texture issue with paint, so it hardly ends well when they decide to break out the advanced art sets. callie does like playdoh, her and lottie make the homemade recipe for it every couple months and it’s very fun.

— callie gets extremely jealous whenever lisa is around. bc that’s her lottie - her mama. she’ll glare at lisa and stomp her foot. lottie knows how jealous callie gets, so she always makes sure to have one hand on callie’s back or shoulder whenever lisa is around, just to reassure callie.

caro fic is actually going to be a lottienat fic. nat is now caro’s guardian after travis dies, which is crazy bc she’s never even met the kid. murder mystery family friendly chaos ensues. lottie feels like she owes both of them + she promised travis before he died that she would always look out for caro. auntie shauna and big cousin callie babysit frequently. auntie misty gets her a goldfish. aunties tai and van take her to trampoline parks with sammy. nat lottie and caro have to learn to be a family.

whenever nat is getting out of the same side of a car as misty, she always puts a hand out to help her. she claims it’s bc she doesn’t want misty to fall ON her, but rlly it’s bc she doesn’t want misty to fall at all. she kinda likes misty’s face being not bloody and bruised, and she kinda wants to keep it that way.

misty makes everyone friendship bracelets at a team reunion sleepover. lottie wears hers proudly everyday on her armful of bracelets bc misty made hers heliotrope colored so it would even fit right in. lisa asks about it one day, noticing the newest addition to lottie’s bracelet collection, and lottie says “my misty” with a dreamy smile on her face.

they watch a horror movie at callie’s insistence. misty tries to pretend she’s not scared, but she is secretly gripping shauna’s hand under the blanket. shauna lets her.

tai appreciates the fact that misty memorizes her coffee order and the fact that misty always brings her a coffee when coming to visit her. in return, tai memorizes (writes it down and sticks it to the deli shop menu so she doesn’t forget) misty’s sandwich order. so the days that misty comes to help out with tai’s campaign, tai orders then lunch. misty always tears up whenever tai surprises her by remembering what she likes.

while misty buys two of everything so she can share with nat, nat will just give misty whatever she wants. she wants a bite of nat’s muffin? sure, it’s not the first time they’ve shared germs!

van has a bulletin board of photos in her tiny office at the video store. there’s a picture of her and misty on it, front and center, from a soccer game as teens. misty sees it one day and is surprised to tears.

all misty scenes being framed as comedic even when shes grieving or hurting bc even as the audience we're meant to think we're laughing with her, but actually its how she was as a teen, simply being laughed AT. i see misty fall over after getting out of shauna's van and want to kill myself with a gun. wdym shes embarrassed and sad and grief filled after trying soo hard to be friends with the others but they just will not accept or love her the way she loves them. guysssss seriously stop being mean to misty shes small and you're hurting her. seriously stopppppp

lottienat au where nat stays with her at the retreat, they unofficially adopt lisa (ignore everything u may know abt her in canon except for she had a crappy childhood) as their daughter figure, but lisa surprises the hell out of them when she reveals one day that she has a little sister back home. lottienat rescue mission to track down this poor fifteen year old girl. lottienat meets lily (lisa’s sister) who wants absolutely nothing to do with them until slowly they worm their way into her heart. lottienat takes on this kid, all her friends, all her issues, and they become a family.

some cute little fam ideas to hold u over till i get a real fic pumped out:

lisa and lily have zero idea how to act around each other at first even tho they’re sisters bc they’ve been apart for a few years and things are tense between them now. but lily will occasionally do something like she did when they were younger, like climbing into lisa’s bed during a thunderstorm or asking lisa to braid her hair, and lisa will feel like a proud big sister again.

lily hates nat and lottie at first for taking her away from the only home she’s ever known. she’s a consistent foot-stomper and eye-roller, barely five feet but packed pull of teenage attitude. sometimes she’ll make a comment that’s so rude it’s almost funny, and nat has to bite down on her lip and look away to hide her smirk.

the first time nat and lottie ever hear a true proper screaming cussing match between the sisters, they’re shocked. bc where has lisa been hiding her potty mouth and why is a 15 year old using those words?!?

lottie wants to get her hands on lily’s hair so bad, bc it’s so long and gorgeous and perfectly wavy and lisa never lets lottie play with hers. turns out lily isn’t a fan of physical touch either, but she’ll concede for some head scratches.

nat isn’t one to overuse terms of endearment. you’d hardly catch her using “sweetie” and “honey”. her personal favorite is “babe”. lily knows it’s a stupid thing to feel something over, especially when she’s so insistent on hating natalie, but her heart does somersaults every time she hears it.

sister jealousy - lisa wants lily to have the family experience and she’d been the one pushing for lily to come live with them, but watching nat and lottie be so maternal with lily and really dive into helping her work through her anger, sometimes makes lisa sad for her younger self who didn’t have that. on the flip side, lily is always jealous bc lisa already seems to feel so secure in her relationship with these women and her new peaceful life.

lottie and nat are always trying to do things that they know will help heal lisa’s and lily’s inner child. like nat will cut the crust off their sandwiches, or lottie will break out the chalk and force a little bonding session on the sidewalk.

auntie shauna to the rescue a whoooole bunch. for some unknown reason, shauna is one of the only people in the whole world that lily seems to like. she calls her lame at first, but shauna turns out to be her favorite aunt.

shauna and jeff work on their marriage (bc jackie isn’t around for shauna to realize her gayness). jeff loves everyone and has come to consider lisa and sammy his kids as well (no matter how many times callie begs him to just play it cool), and he thinks of lily as one of his own from the moment he meets her. he’s just glad he finally has someone to play sports with, even if it’s volleyball 99% of the time.

callie becomes a rlly good big sister figure to lily. lisa is sometimes jealous at how fast her and lily clicked.

taivan reunion. lily starts working part time at van’s shop and they bond over having alcoholic fathers. lisa was never as forthcoming with jokes abt her shitty childhood as lily is, and van loves it.

lily babysits sammy occasionally. they honestly need a babysitter for lily too bc the two of them cause so much trouble together.

tai is the only one of the women willing to play real volleyball with lily. lottie refuses bc of her heels, nat tries and fails comically every time, misty is so uncoordinated with her feet that it reminds her of why she was never put on the soccer team, van straight refuses to move from her chair, and shauna can’t hit for shit.

misty is another one of lily’s faves. sometimes she tries too hard and lily will roll her eyes and say she’s a freak. but lily loves how she can be her weird authentic self around misty and she never has to be afraid she’ll judge her.

sorry if this doesn’t align with ur thoughts. you have to be in my head to know my thought process. it’s not in order or organized at all, but here’s a list of thoughts.

for the teen timeline, i am currently thinking baby mari <33333. just imagine mari being a grumpy little toddler and here comes one of the girls to the rescue.

and laura lee (mostly for the teddy bear part). imagine she starts panicking constantly after the crash, regressing more and more everyday, and lottie cares so much for her.

for the older timeline, i can’t stop thinking of everyone babying van!!!! idk i just love how she’s gotten softer in her older days, still a badass cool chick but softer. and i just think she has a lot of repressed trauma and she needs all the comforts (even if she won’t admit it).

think of lottie being so gentle and patient with van, knowing that van is hesitant to be around her. slowly but surely, van opens up to her again and allows lottie to comfort her.

think of mama shauna putting her mommy skills to use and doing things with van that she knows van never got to do as a child - shauna reading her children’s books with all the silly voices, baking cookies, comforting her after a nightmare.

but also… little callie! someone mentioned this earlier and omg. can’t stop the thoughts.

shauna sees this as a do-over in a way, bc she knows that she wasn’t able to fully enjoy motherhood (no matter how hard she tried). somehow it’s easier now that callie is older and aware. somehow it’s easier now that callie has trauma too.

while teen callie would rather claw her own eyes out before spending time in the same room as her mother, little callie is all about mama shauna! that’s her mama!

teen callie also always favors jeff, but not little callie! if jeff comes near shauna for any reason, callie will push him away and protectively glare. she’ll say “my mama” and she’ll throw the biggest fit ever when shauna scolds her, until shauna says “okay okay i am your mama, you’re right, only your mama, my callie”.

callie would have BIG separation anxiety from shauna and hates babysitters. unless it’s her mom’s friends who are basically her family now. she loves them. they are her best friends.

lottie didn’t get a chance to be part of callie’s life as a child, so she sees this as a do-over. she often thinks of what jackie would do with little callie, and tries to do that. even though lottie hates getting dirty, she does often bring callie to play outside in her big field of flowers.

callie’s favorite snack is bananas. but she doesn’t bother saying the whole word. just “nanas, mama, peas?”

her speech absolutely gets younger as she regresses. that’s a very telling sign for shauna. she always knows when callie is abt to regress bc callie will start mumbling, not finishing sentences, or giving simple one-word answers.

nat being mama to anyone is so real. subtle affection.

her name is either caro (short for carolina pronounced lee-na not line-a) or ellie. she refuses to speak or even look at any of the yj when nat forces them all to gather at her apartment as she tries to process the fact that she’s now responsible for this kid. surprisingly it’s van who gets the kid to take a drink; surprising bc van is usually quietly closed-off, but unsurprising to tai bc van grew up knowing what it was like to be the terrified kid dumped on people (van spent brief time in the foster system hc). pls help me pick a name and then send hc list requests or just thoughts abt the yj suddenly having a child they all help to raise.
